- theNazz, on 10/10/2007, -7/+50I don't remember the section of the Mall of America that featured IEDs, car bombs, and Saudi Arabian 'insurgents' pretending to be Iranian terrorists.
- frsrblch, on 10/10/2007, -4/+33Wow, Minnesota must really be going down hill...
- sensoukami, on 10/10/2007, -13/+41Buried as lame and misleading.
She was refering to one of Saddam's Palaces you morons.
*****, Bush and Co. are stupid enough, you don't need to make ***** up. Just kills your own credibility... - dagnabbit, on 10/10/2007, -3/+28That photo is inaccurate! The Mall no longer has Camp Snoopy, the rights ran out and now it's got Spongebob and Nickelodeon characters, not the Peanuts.
- pioneerdew, on 10/10/2007, -3/+28Taken Out of Context.
She was remarking on how ridiculous Saddam Hussein's palace was. And she compared it to something she new, the mall of America. No where does she say the green zone is fluffy and safe. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -11/+30Wow, the Green Zone sounds wonderful!
- TheSavant, on 10/10/2007, -4/+22I've been to both. There isn't a Hooters to be found anywhere in Iraq.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+18We are making Iraq into the Mall of America?
No wonder they want to kill us! - otheruser, on 10/10/2007, -9/+21Not even the Green Zone is safe:

BUT DON'T WORRY! THE SURGE IS WORKING (regardless of what the September report might say, which has now been preemptively labeled by the White House as a poor indicator of the surge's success). - EComni, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15Not only does the article itself say this, but the digg summary even says it too.
"What was the palace like?
“It’s absolutely huge,” she said. “I turned to my colleagues and said there’s a commonality with the Mall of America, in that it’s on that proportion.”
How the d-bag who wrote the article turned that into this lady saying the entire country of Iraq is like a giant mall, I don't know. - reiner15, on 10/10/2007, -5/+17I haven't been to the Mall of America since last fall, but I'm pretty sure there weren't daily bombings or firefights...
- crichton101, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13You just haven't been there recently.
- swrostmore, on 10/10/2007, -5/+15That's great news! Meanwhile 70% of Iraqis don't have access to clean water, electricity is available 4 hours a day if at all, and Americans, Saudis, Baathists, and Shiite death squads continue to indiscriminately explode civilians. But at least Saddam is dead, Hooray!
- BohicaTwentyTwo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11Its good to know all of that UN Oil for Food money went to something worthwhile.
- Babykitkat, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11PHOTOS: The $592 Million U.S. Embassy In Iraq
Construction of the U.S. embassy in Iraq, set to open in September, is projected to cost $592 million, with a staff of 1,000 people and operating costs totaling $1.2 billion a year. It will be a 104-acre complex, which is the size of approximately 80 football fields. On May 10, Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) criticized the ballooning size and cost of the embassy in a hearing with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice:
http://thinkprogress.org/2007/05/29/photos-embassy-iraq/ - jamesmusik, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12Buried as inaccurate. The Rep. said that the PALACE reminded her of the Mall of America. Big difference.
- swrostmore, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9first amendment to the constitution
- Cerialthriller, on 10/10/2007, -5/+12if its so nice there my friends and family can come home now then? (BTW none of them think its nice or safe in the green zone..)
- KyMcMan, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8The question that she answered is clearly about what the palace was like, but the article is misleading everyone into thinking the comparison was between the Mall of America and Iraq. Whoever wrote this was going for this exact idea as well based on the placement of the bold. Buried.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -10/+16FTA: “It hasn’t had a chance to be in place long enough to offer a critique of how it’s working,” she said.

George Bush's illegal invasion was in 2003. It is now 2007. How long is long enough? - brockpetrie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I didn't vote for the bitch, I'll tell you that much... Just mentioning her makes my penis invert.
- bubbadoo989, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5You mean to say, in all of Bahgdhad, there's no Hooters?
- CannedMango, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9Note to self.... never go to the Mall of America.
- pioneerdew, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Buried as inaccurate. Her comments about her trip to Iraq where taken out of context. She was trying to convey the grandeur of ONE of Saddam's palaces to something she knows, the Mall of America. Being as she represents MN, what would be an easier land mark to reference?
- jstohler, on 10/10/2007, -7/+12I love the leader!
- superyounan1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6PAAALLLAAACCCEE, the PALACE is like the mall of america. then they compare a picture of an explosion with snoopy, how dumb
- Gastrodamus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4***PRIOR TO EVEN READING THE ARTICLE, I WILL BET THAT SHE DIDN'T COMPARE IRAQ TO THE MALL OF AMERICA***
At this point, who doesn't realize that ThingProgress means ThinkPropaganda. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4thinkprogress.marxism and rawstory.got_it_wrong are the new liberal truth squad. Moonbat blogs for moonbat ***** thoughts.
- antifreze, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6bury this.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Way to misinterpret what she said ThinkProgress...
This surprises you? Really? They haven't gotten one thing right yet, all they do is parrot Soros and liberal talking points. Nothing they do has any real use as information or reality. - BohicaTwentyTwo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Most of the civilian casualties in Iraq are caused by suicide bombers. Most of the suicide bombers are foreigners. Therefore, most of the civilian casualties are caused by Al Qaeda.
- Aokami, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Yeah.. Somehow we managed to get this psycho as a representative.
- BohicaTwentyTwo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4If you believe this story, I have only one question. What, exactly does George Soros dick taste like anyway?
- pioneerdew, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Could be, this is the first i article i have read from thinkprogress.com, but the chinaman is not the issue. The fact that this was 'digged' is the issue. Why is it the issue? Because the ARTICLE is out of context, and is inaccurate!
- Dakart, on 10/10/2007, -5/+8Wow... Way to misinterpret what she said ThinkProgress...
What she's saying is that even while Iraq and it's people were suffering, Saddam was building palaces for himself that were on the scale of the Mall of America.
"What was the palace like?
'It’s absolutely huge,' she said. 'I turned to my colleagues and said there’s a commonality with the Mall of America, in that it’s on that proportion.'"
Buried as inaccurate. - pyry, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Why are they allowed to get elected?
- MeMongo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Maybe there's one in the U.S. Embassy. That would explain why it costs 600 Billion dollars and will cost 1.2 Billion a year to operate
- DivisibleByZero, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4It's so nice that they want to stay.
- kflasch, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Come on. Buried as inaccurate. She was obviously referring to the palace, not the country.
Let's stick to the facts. There's plenty of material there. - trilks, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I think Sears has all that now.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Her comments about her trip to Iraq where taken out of context.
Everything that thinkprogress.bullhsit writes is taken out of context. - satanatnmtedu, on 10/10/2007, -5/+8It is sad that the Representative's point of reference is the Mall of America.
- ScottMaximus1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4TAKE OFF YOUR HOOD!
- Gastrodamus, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5*****Surprise, surprise. She compares THE PALACE to the Mall of America and ThinkProgress conveniently does a find/replace with "the Palace" and "Iraq".
Diggers: "I saw it on the Internet, so it must be true." - ddxChrist, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Why bring that 'factoid' up? It doesn't change the current situation in Iraq. It isn't even relevant in trying to label this as Digg propaganda. You would have been better off citing the discrepancy between the article description and the actual article: She's asked about the palace, but the title tries to apply what she says to all of Iraq.
Nevertheless, the article is still unsettling. Her justification for supporting the war is as cohesive as President Bush trying to string terrorism, 9/11, and Saddam together. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3She probably did say Al Qaeda, but the moron that wrote the article spelled it wrong. I am pretty certain she did not spell it when she said it. Just goes to show how factually inaccurate thinkprogress.liberal_laddogs really is, but the extreme left of the party won't admit to it, they love it.
- Bercebu48, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5What an idiot! Take a little tour outside the green zone.
- szembek, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3She was talking about sadaam's palace, not Iraq in general. read it.
- CannedMango, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Ok, good point.
Please answer this for me.... what significance does the quality of the Palace have in any way?
How does that relate to the war in Iraq?
How did she determine from *that* experience that "she returned as firm as ever in her conviction that the war is justified"???? - ddxChrist, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2What? Why in the world did you just lump me together with 'lefties'? You haven't even engaged in any sort of political discourse with me. If anything, I tried to help you because I do find the article title to be misleading and manipulative. The fact that you're quick to throw me in a group is quite sad. I find both extremes to be nothing but nonsensical.
As for where I stand: I'm all for personal freedom, individual responsibility, and a government in place that meets these ideals and serves to ensure our rights by upholding the constitution; I'm against the current, dismal allocation of our taxes and the justifications for their current collection.
As far as Iraq as concerned, it has been a loosely connected sham since the outset. The efforts in Afghanistan had justification domestically and internationally after the events unfolded. But Iraq? It's all been a mishmash of personal interests; opposition to it internationally has largely been because it clashed with foreign interests in the region, while domestic support was very unclear (WMD somehow turned into liberation sprinkled with 9/11 connections). The justifications are still vague; if they were clear, there wouldn't be so many articles and debates over why we're still there or what the timetable is, and the support for it would certainly be more significant. -
