- semeticstallion, on 02/23/2008, -2/+65Jello Biafra is an awesome guy! He once ran for mayor of San Fransisco under the platform that Business men had to wear clown suits to work and music stores and thrift shops had to be open 24/7. He surprisingly only lost by a few hundred votes.
- NealJ2K, on 02/23/2008, -2/+52Good job guy, you are 100% right. Up with the independent labels, down with the big labels and RIAA!
- inactive, on 02/23/2008, -7/+50You've turned rock and roll rebellion
Into Pat Boone sedation
Making sure nothing's left to the imagination
M.T.V. Get off the
M.T.V. Get off the
M.T.V. Get off the air
Get off the air
See the latest rejects from the muppet show
Wag their ***** and their dicks
As they lip-synch on screen
There's something I don't like
About a band who always smiles
Another tax write-off
For some schmuck who doesn't care
M.T.V. Get off the air
And so it was
Our beloved corporate gods
Claimed they created rock video
Allowing it to sink as low in one year
As commercial TV has in 25
"It's the new frontier," they say
It's wide open, anything can happen
But you've got a lot of nerve
To call yourself a pioneer
When you're too god-damn conservative
To take real chances. - theNazz, on 02/23/2008, -2/+33"The device you've connected your media player to does not contain the same files, would you like to delete the files on your media player or cancel synchronization?"
- gmiley, on 02/23/2008, -1/+31If he does it seems like you're the type that would tattle.
- usingpond, on 02/23/2008, -0/+30What the ***** do you mean he never "made it"? He's a punk icon. Do you mean he never "made it" to your local hot 100 station?
- Zlorp, on 02/23/2008, -2/+26modern music is only worth stealing anyway.
you can put ***** in a box and charge people for it, but why would you pay for a box of ***** when you can get ***** for free? - FukUrCouch, on 02/23/2008, -7/+27***** THE RIAA!..
- fixinah, on 02/23/2008, -1/+21Send the MPAA bosses to a Holiday in Cambodia.
- inactive, on 02/23/2008, -1/+20What a douche. Why don't you go kick a baby or something.
- Waterrat, on 02/23/2008, -21/+39 He sure hit the nail on the head...I feel the same way about Microsoft and their anti Linux tactics as well.
- theNazz, on 02/23/2008, -2/+20"***** you! Pay me!"
- drgmdp, on 02/23/2008, -1/+18happy to see some kennedys fans around..
- V0lk, on 02/23/2008, -1/+18Jello Biafra is a great American.
- Lyght, on 02/23/2008, -0/+16Well, Dead Kennedys kinda screwed him over when they reformed. They sued him for not allowing them to use Holiday in Cambodia in a Levi's song, which the other three members claimed denied them royalties. Yet Jello opposes Levi's for their use of sweatshop labor. After that is when Dead Kennedys stuff started appearing in movies and video games, because Jello lost the rights to the songs that HE wrote and they decided to make money off of it.
- say592, on 02/23/2008, -9/+25I see what you did there.
- scottbaez, on 02/23/2008, -2/+18I'm tired of self respect
I can't afford a car
I wanna be a prefab superstar
I wanna be a tool
Don't need no soul
Wanna make big money
Playing rock and roll
I'll make my music boring
I'll play my music slow
I ain't no artist, I'm a business man
No ideas of my own
I won't offend
Or rock the boat
Just sex and drugs
And rock and roll
Drool, drool, drool, drool, drool, drool
My Payola!
Drool, drool, drool, drool, drool, drool
My Payola!
You'll pay ten bucks to see me
On a fifteen foot high stage
Fatass bouncers kick the *****
Out of kids who try to dance
If my friends say
I've lost my guts
I'll laugh and say
That's rock and roll
But there's just one problem
Is my ***** big enough
Is my brain small enough
For you to make me a star
Give me a toot, I'll sell you my soul
Pull my strings and I'll go far
And when I'm rich
And meet Bob Hope
We'll shoot some golf
And shoot some dope
Is my ***** big enough?
Is my brain small enough? - PDAIsAOk, on 02/23/2008, -2/+16The RIAA is bound to see its demise soon enough. There is already a paradigm shift happening in the industry. The way we share information now is allowing independent bands to become more easily discovered without radio and a big label. I believe we will be seeing a renaissance period where good yet independent music will take over as the forefront of the industry.

- therightclique, on 02/23/2008, -1/+12dude, anybody can look bad religion lyrics up on the internet.
- Barbosa, on 02/24/2008, -0/+11The is no more Dead Kennedys as far as I'm concerned. I love East bay Ray and Klaus Flouride as musicians, but, as far as lyrics and the creative aspect of the band, without Jello there is nothing.
- ShootTheCore, on 02/23/2008, -0/+11I didn't know that fact...
But sorry for being interested in it because it probably wasted a few of your precious seconds scrolling past it... - stackered, on 02/23/2008, -3/+14I would say "***** THE RIAA!" but for some reason every comment I leave with that is deleted... has there ban a ban/moderation of this beautiful phrase to which I am unaware?

http://www.mafiaa.org/ - ubergeek09, on 02/23/2008, -2/+13Great article. The RIAA is going to have to adapt or die to the changes in the music industry.
- gbro, on 02/23/2008, -1/+11Jesus fed the 5000, he was then sued by the RIAA for distributing unauthorised reproductions.
- inactive, on 02/23/2008, -0/+10Have you ever listened to or been to one of his lectures? The way he puts things not only makes it entertaining, but highly informative. I think anyone who can combine those two things and share an important message deserves to get attention.
- TRega123, on 02/23/2008, -2/+11"Americans are more likely to obey laws they perceive to be morally right, laws they believe were enacted through an impartial legislative process. The Recording Industry Association of America, among the wealthiest and most influential of industry lobbyists, has a long way to go to convince Americans that laws governing file-sharing were enacted for the good of the general public. It’s easier to sue." -- Marc Perlman, Brown University
- Professr, on 02/23/2008, -0/+9Your nick is so 20th century.
- Draicone, on 02/23/2008, -2/+11They are "open to the idea of Open Source" for the fifth or sixth time now; I've lost count. Also, only the latest-and-greatest MS products have been opened, as such; naturally, if we actually upgrade to these (Vista, Office 2007, Home Server etc.) we will "accidentally" generate billions in revenue.
- inactive, on 02/23/2008, -0/+9Plus part of the battle was due to the other 3 DK members trying to use the song "Holiday in Cambodia" in a Levi's commercial, but Biafra refused due to their sweatshop labor.
- rreadysetno, on 02/23/2008, -1/+9"The band split in 1986 but 1998 saw the start of a six year battle over the royalties to the band’s music." I think fighting over royalties means that he doesn't make that much of a living off of his music than you think.
- Denelson83, on 02/24/2008, -1/+9Unfortunately, the MAFIAA can't see your finger through all their dollars.
- Microfoot, on 02/23/2008, -1/+9If it were the Dead Kennedys these days, it would sound something more like "Buy our DK T-Shirts! Buy our DK coffee mugs! Buy our DK welcome mats!" We're talking about Jello Biafra here, not the ***** that calls itself Dead Kennedys.
- letsnotlisten, on 02/24/2008, -0/+7I'm pretty sure some well-off suburban kid who rants on Digg like you knows exactly what the motive of punk rock is.
- mlfoley, on 02/23/2008, -0/+7There's always room for Jello! I love me some DKs, and I love me this article.
- inactive, on 02/23/2008, -1/+8You fell for it.
Obviously its nothing more than a lame marketing trick that they are putting money in to opening stuff up (Firefox plug ins, XML office formats...) - adooga, on 02/24/2008, -2/+9That's just the universe letting you know that you have nothing to add to the discussion.
- chrisinsocalif, on 02/23/2008, -1/+8RIAA needs to embrace technology rather than work against it. They are using a lot of resources toward a losing battle.
- amida, on 02/24/2008, -0/+7From Wikipedia: "He finished fourth out of a field of ten, receiving 3.5% of the vote (6,591 votes); the election ended in a runoff that did not involve him (Feinstein was declared the winner). In reaction to his campaign (and that of Sister Boom-Boom, a drag queen who also ran for mayor and handily won the third place spot above Biafra), San Francisco passed a resolution stating that no candidate could run under any name other than their given name.[30]"
- silentphoenix, on 02/23/2008, -5/+12RIAA SUCKS
- OpaqueMurdock, on 02/23/2008, -0/+7I agree with usingpond, your concept of what is and isn't musical success is way outta whack.
I would add, that such "all or nothing" attitudes are a big reason that the music industry is so screwed up. Thats how we get crap like a band selling 350,000 of a record and instead of getting a "congratulations!" from the record company they instead, get their contracts canceled, and end up owing the record company money! Most people don't seem to want variety, they don't seem to care if most popular music sounds like it was all made in the same factory in china and then lipsynced by models that are chosen specifically to appeal to a segment of disenfranchised youth. The choice of what people listen to was made for them LONG before they "discovered" a song you because a good looking girl was hired to talk about how much she and all her friends really liked it all night at a hot bar. : P
It saddens me that a modern equivalent of Jello would never have a chance to be heard with the changes that have happened since the late 70's early 80's.
The record companies are only partly to blame... complacent listeners also bear some responsibility. - 4lun, on 02/23/2008, -1/+7Hopefully the latter.
- Lyght, on 02/23/2008, -0/+6I800LEMMINGS never implied that Jello was part of the country's name.
- Segphault1, on 02/23/2008, -1/+7MTV Get off the air. Stop destroying kids.
- inactive, on 02/23/2008, -1/+7Shill.
- Ferago, on 02/24/2008, -0/+6I agree. They have no business calling themselves the dead kennedys without jello.
- RightSaidJames, on 06/11/2009, -0/+5Couldn't agree more with Jello Biafra here... the RIAA are basically bullies, who use the threat of multi-million pound fines to swindle otherwise honest filesharers out of their life savings.
- deadcrickets, on 02/23/2008, -0/+5Believe me they would never allow it to happen. I can almost guarantee that they have lists of people to never, ever, ever send the letters to. They don't want to tarnish their reputation with those they are bribing.
