http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/iraq_powell_dc- WellArmedLibral, on 10/12/2007, -6/+28Man, I'd support powel for president if it weren't for that stupid UN speech.
- reeder, on 10/12/2007, -9/+24He was lied to as well, just like the rest of us.
- sobriquet, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14Was I the only one that smelled ***** years ago? Powell should have known better. Everyone makes mistakes though, and Powell is a good guy.
- RamanujanRedux, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15Another thing Rumsfeld and Cheney should be punished for: The relegation and humiliation of Colin Powell, to the point where he'd never be considered a presidential candidate.
- dshPls, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12WTF do any of these replys have to do with the original comment?
- karelian, on 10/12/2007, -9/+5
I guess Colin has rediscovered his balls now that his reputation is in jeopardy. He could have done so much good in 2003 or 2004 if he had owned up to misleading the world and making false claims about Iraq WMD's.
But no - he kept his mouth shut until 2006 - and only now, when it's far too late, does he break with Bush.
What a gutless slug this guy is. - spiritamx79, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7you mean the mission ISNT accomplished?
and there is civil war in iraq?
/sarcasm - trghpy, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4@dshPls
Welcome to digg, where those who don't get enough attention in the real world post as high on the page as possible so we're more likely to get attention.
It'd be cool if comments got sorted by the number of diggs so that meaningful comments made it to the top. - karelian, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4"Welcome to digg, where those who don't get enough attention in the real world post as high on the page as possible so we're more likely to get attention."
Not to get too meta - but you just engaged in the very behaviour you seem to castigate.
It's like complaining about people who write with caps on... while writing with caps on. - jgzman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@ trghpy
It's right next to the profanity filter. Drop down box. First option: sort by most diggs.
Carry on. - mfratt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Anyone listen to Jay Severin on Imus this morning? He covered this point.

The truth often gets buried here and in life in general.
- bwd01, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Actually, it would be extremely good news if Iraq was merely a civil war. If it were a civil war, we'd only be dealing with two sides.
It now looks like it is clan vs. clan, sect vs. sect, and shia vs. sunni all at the same time. It looks like pure armed chaos.
I hope Bush got whatever satisfaction he wanted out of taking out Saddam; because a person like Saddam was the only reason that artificial state existed. Bush's exit plan better take that into consideration, if he actually has an exit plan.- WellArmedLibral, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Well . . . its not quite that bad. Look up the Salvador Operation . . . the worst violence is being carried out in Iraq is by some "black ops" groups the US is running. Although Iraqi's have occasionally whacked off people's heads, grabbing 100+ folks and whacking their heads off and scattering them around town to increase sectarian fighting is a "signature" of our Black Ops folks who ran the war in El Salvador.

And before any idiot calls it a conspiracy theory . . . do your homework. Its made the international news.

- killn00bz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8look what the monkey started now. we go to war for their peace and now they are in a civil war. way to go bush.
- liuite, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0this is not an argument, it is a debate!!!
- pauljaroszewski, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5it doesn't matter that colin powell went along with all the bush madness so much as it matters that he ultimately resigned. i respect him for that. i would even respect our piece of crap president, albeit just a wee-little bit, if he would actually man-up, admit that he ***** up royally, and then give up his office (cheney would have to leave as well).
- charlescheese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2He was actually convinced by Bush to resign with the impression that Rumsfeld would go too. It has been said that if Powell thought Rumsfeld was going to stay on, he too would have stayed. You've got it all wrong though, Bush pushed Powell out.
- atb12688, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2By those standards we have a civil war in America: Crypts vs. Bloods. The two factions are fighting but we have militant factions in the US also, they're called gangs. Civil War or not we'll be in Iraq so get over it.
- JackyTreehorn, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1What's the point of classifying the war as "Civil"? It's a war. Team A is fighting Team B.
- justgeorge, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2just realised.. digg sucks balls - I mean - it's good for findng stories, but noone discusses anything..
they just shout, and bury one another.
after 1 week I have to say, these discussion boards are highly depressing.. Glad the people "discussing" ***** here are doing it on these boards and not anywhere else - small, narrow minds and big fat mouths... what a dissapointing forum.
And I know you'll bury this or reply with ***** but I'm out of here, so if you're one of them.. and you know who you are.. (ignorant, arrogant, pedantic, probably religous).. well - GO ***** YOURSELF.- eatsushi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3later.
As for me, I kinda sorta agree with the nonsensical rants, but that's what the bury button is there for right?
Anybody wanna donate money to Senator Webb and tempt him to sock Bush in the face?

- TheEditor1, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Blog *****. Marked as LLLLL AAAAA MMMMM EEEEE
- charlescheese, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1....
- JoeBlunt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Bush has won alot of battles, but is losing the war. He doesn't have much else to lose. Spades being spades, it might make him look more intelligent to his remaining 30% if he calls it Civil War. To the rest, he is going to continue to appear deluded and mired in his own $hite.
- charlescheese, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1When you're talking about smart, you should probably not use words that aren't words, like alot.
- Arvaksrotas, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Mr. Powell took himself out of the game after he got JACKED up. He should remain on the sideline and keep cleats clean for the players. He had an opportunity but found his game was not as good as the other players as he either discovered some humanity and felt remorse for what he attempted or was found to be lacking sufficient killer instinct to continue. I would be extremely surprised if he could compete for his community association presidency at this point given his non-existent credibility or maybe that's supposed to be extreme gullibility. Either way, the sidelines is a nice safe place.
- rstevens, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Throw a frog in a pot of boiling water and it will jump out. That's what the Americans did when England taxed them with burdensome taxes.
Put a frog in cold water and slowly turn up the heat and it won't jump. Now Americans work for almost 1/2 of each year just to pay their taxes, lost the Bill of Rights, and are manipulated daily by conspiring government leaders.
Wake up America. We have now been in Iraq longer than we fought World War II--and for what? Oil? Does anyone wish we stayed longer in any war?
If we really cared about "democracy" and "human rights" then we would have invaded Cuba since it is 90 miles off our coast.
Americans would rather become the leaders in alternative energies. America was a place of innovation. Why does our President refuse to represent the people? Does anyone think he is smarter than us? Why does our President not share the same vision of America as its people? - rstevens, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Powell is one of the last powerful, caring people we have in politics.
- charlescheese, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2If you watch the clip, he said he would PROBABLY recommend that Bush call it a civil war.
Powell did NOT say "Bush should stop denying that it's a civil war".
Also, what difference does the phrase civil war make? Either way it's not good over there, be it a civil or an insurgency. Who cares. - wafflekaffe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Powell has absolutely no credibility. He knowingly lied about WMD to the UN. He lied to get us into a war. He did his damnedest to sell the war. That's a crime against peace, folks, not to mention treasonous threat to national security. Colin Powell should be tried in the Hague.
Don't tell me he was lied to, I was paying attention to the news and world events all through that time, and I saw the whole trainwreck. Powell was not lied to, instead he was one of the chief water-carriers of the Bush administration's prolong propaganda campaign to sell the war. Remember the ridiculous bio weapons trailer models and anthrax vials?
Powell got where he was because he can be trusted to sell the lie. A craven opportunist. Remember he was also involved in the cover-up of the Me-lai massacre in the Vietnam war. - LastVisibleDog, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1...based on hearsay. Get a clue Moonbats - ThinkProgress is a propaganda forum.
- ClosedCaption, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I can here the Neo Naz..uh..Conservatives now:
Colin Powell is a shill for the Democrats and hates the troops!
