- voyetra8, on 04/04/2009, -17/+128You know what else doesn't help them? Watching the party that let PAYGO expire and brought us Medicare Part D scream about "fiscal responsibility" as if they know better:
"With the gutting, then abandonment, of PAYGO, budget deficits returned. The federal surplus shrank from $236.2 billion in 2000 to $128.2 billion in 2001, then a $157.8 billion deficit in 2002. The deficit increased to $377.6 in 2003 and $412.7 billion in 2004. The federal deficit excluding trust funds was $537.3 billion in FY2006. In the first 6 years of President Bush's term, with a Republican controlled Congress, the federal debt increased by $3 trillion." Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PAYGO
Look *****... you lost your way. It's cool, we all ***** up every now and then... but what you need to do now is focus on getting back to your roots: Truly conservative fiscal policy. Slip the stranglehold the religious right has on the party. Smaller government. (Take a look at Ron Paul, there is a reason why people like him.)
You're like the hot chick from high school that got fat in college. You still have a cute face, but you need to hit the ***** gym and start focusing on some target areas. Stop opposing every move that Obama makes, and start focusing on your bloated ass.
Do this, and you may become relevant again.
Until then, the rest of us will be here cleaning up your ***** mess. - ForumDriv, on 04/04/2009, -25/+92The Rs are literally positioning themselves against optimism, progress, accomplishing objectives, moving legislation, change and hope. They should sue for peace.
- normlsparky, on 04/04/2009, -7/+67FTA:
"Glenn Beck, who graced the cover of The New York Times on Monday, teased Friday’s episode of his increasingly popular new Fox News show with images of Stalin, Lenin and Hitler, while telling audiences on Wednesday’s show that he was wrong to have said the Obama administration is leading America to socialism — it’s actually fascism."
So, Glenn Beck spent several weeks foaming at the mouth over the wrong "ism". It's a good thing he still has a few more "isms" to go through before will have to admit that he is a clueless fool who just happens to make his living by inciting hysteria.
Ranting and inciting hysteria will never solve problems. The most valuable advice a person can follow when facing a crisis is to remain calm. Don't panic. The man who landed his commercial jet in the Hudson didn't do so by screaming various "isms" at the top of his lungs.
The current state of the Republican Party is not unlike that same jet. It has lost its power and is now headed towards the ground. Unfortunately, Limbaugh and Beck seem to be the designated pilots of your party right now. You may want to consider replacing them with calmer, more focused pilots while you still have time.
Alternatively, you can take comfort in the fact that accidents involving commercial jets usually have very high ratings. - inactive, on 04/04/2009, -6/+54Pssh... Religious ***** and fearmongering have been the primary focus of the Republican party for nearly the past two decades. Even if they do return to small government and fiscal responsibility, I don't see them dropping that element anytime soon.
- ChuckDees, on 04/04/2009, -8/+38I doubt very seriously many on the rightwing are worried about this.
Look they picked up their bitch and moan session right were they left off in 2000.
It's like a time warp back to the 1990's, the same exact people bitching about the same crap.
What cracks me up is this ***** didn't work back then and even spawned the creation of groups like Moveon.
But hey if it didn't work before try it again? - muckemuck, on 04/04/2009, -3/+32The "right" would be MUCH better off it rooted out the big-government, constitution shredding career politicians out of it's own ranks before it goes attacking Obama.
Take just about any of the Republicans in Congress who now call themselves "fiscal conservatives" and look at their voting records. If they voted like big government RINOs (I'm thinking of you Senator Richard Burr - up for re-election) then work hard to get them defeated in the primaries and get a real Republican in the running. - voyetra8, on 04/04/2009, -0/+26Fair enough. The point I was trying to make was that the party wasn't founded on religion.
- swrostmore, on 04/04/2009, -4/+26It's laughable to think that the left would be worried about anti-Bush talk, because being anti-Bush is an extremely popular position (i.e. it attracts more voters than it alienates). Being anti-Obama, on the other hand, is likely to reduce the Right's numbers even further because of his widespread popularity.
- inactive, on 04/04/2009, -5/+25I think his fiscal conservatism (despite myriad other excuses) is why spending-addicted Republicans hate Ron Paul so hysterically.
- ChuckDees, on 04/04/2009, -5/+25This logic is so bizarre.
So the government wants you poor, so you will have to sign up for government hand outs.
Then they got you stuck in the handout loop forever and that is what they wanted all along?
Well, uhhhh why exactly would the government want everyone on the dole?
And if everyone is on the dole, how would government get money? - inactive, on 04/05/2009, -8/+26I used to be a Limbaugh-listening-Republican back when Clinton was in office. I now find much of the talk he's spewing as well as the additional "personalities" on the radio to be incendiary and to some extent, dangerous. It wouldn't be much of a stretch to imagine someone inspired by all of the "Obama is destroying the fabric of US society" talk, to do something extreme. Take Glen Beck's "the world is going to end" speech, add to it Hannity's "occupied nation of USA" speech and someone like Timothy McVeigh could easily pop up again.
Back in the day, it was pretty much just Limbaugh delivering the message of right-wing "conservatism", now it's Limbaugh, Coulter, Hannity, Levin, O'Reilly (oddly enough, he's been the least anti-Obama of the bunch), Joe Scarborough, Steve Malzberg and I'm sure there are many more; all spewing the same propaganda; all, to some extent, appealing to people's prejudice. - richirwin, on 04/05/2009, -6/+23republicans, keep it up. This is working.
Obama is a socilist. Obama is a muslim. Obama wasn't born in the United States. Obama is under foreign influence.
Yes republicans, keep repeating this over and over and over, at least until the 2012 elections.
Yes republicans, this is working. Yesssss.... - inactive, on 04/05/2009, -5/+22The old guard of the Republican party doesn't understand that they are living in the past. So what if your radio or cable news programs ratings are up? The internet, with it's various options for information, is the way of the future and it is definitely left leaning. This is because the younger generations are able to discern the available information and see through the Republican "talking points" strategy.
- ironhide, on 04/05/2009, -6/+22The libertarians aren't any better. They hate everyone.
- voyetra8, on 04/04/2009, -0/+16Well, if there is one maxim history has taught us, it's "adapt or die."
- normlsparky, on 04/05/2009, -3/+19"obama has proven to be a disappointment for everyone"
Speak for yourself dingle dick. - normlsparky, on 04/04/2009, -3/+17The religious sector of the GOP will not just go away. They have tasted the power of political influence and have no intention of giving it up without a fight. They want their phone line directly to the White House back.
- inactive, on 04/04/2009, -2/+16I think his greatest sin is simply questioning Republican dogma. Yeah, a lot of that dogma has to do with spending, but really, presenting a unified front has always been very important, and him running around questioning that front is like a slap in the face.
- scottknick, on 04/05/2009, -7/+20I'm sure there are some in the GOP who realize that when you vote against people's jobs and health care, they won't vote for you.
Unfortunately those people don't seem to have any authority in the party right now. - SOS84, on 04/05/2009, -8/+21The right should be worried. They know full well that there is a explicit element of racism in the anti-Obama talk. In years past, the GOP would simply push its implicit racist agenda. Now, they are being exposed for their anti-Americanism by their own members. They are becoming more irrelevant by the day.
- swrostmore, on 04/04/2009, -4/+17Politico leans Right, try reading it sometime. The Drudge -> Politico stovepipe has been well documented.
- fury420, on 04/04/2009, -11/+23so, what your saying is.... the republican party is full of optimism and hope for the future, and is dedicated to progress, passing legislation, and accomplishing objectives?
what kind of bizzaro world are you living in? - TimDigg, on 04/05/2009, -0/+12Here's the dilemma...
Medicare and social security(the two most bloated parts of govt)...are benefits to the largest group of conservatives...
old people
how a conservative politician can get around that FACT is beyond me - inactive, on 04/05/2009, -2/+14Glen Beck really has gone off the deep end.
- multiformat, on 04/05/2009, -3/+15Speaking as a republican who voted for Obama. The problem is that working middle Americans generally see the republicans as the ones who enabled and even encouraged the corruption of the financial system. That is why Obama won, that is why the republican party is in such disarray. Now they are analyzing everything they say to somehow make themselves more appealing, like they truly care about the average American. Thank god it's not working.
- inactive, on 04/04/2009, -2/+14True. They're also hysterical about the drugwar, and they have a history of dishonesty on border security, too. Maybe it's just that for me, it ALL comes down to spending, in the end. You can imagine how thrilled I am these days...After 8 years of Bush raiding the till, now this. Sigh.
- voyetra8, on 04/05/2009, -1/+12So you're saying the Bush administration didn't let PAYGO lapse, and didn't pass Medicare Part D?
Call me when the shuttle lands. - RagManX, on 04/05/2009, -1/+12Maybe Fox isn't covering it, but it's all over ever news channel and show I watch. Not sure why you think the unemployment rate isn't being covered.
- SOS84, on 04/05/2009, -1/+11Because he does not want to admit that the GOP is responsible.
- DangerCollie, on 04/05/2009, -1/+11I'd say you pretty much nailed it. Ultimately trying to combine smaller, less intrusive government and expansion of intrusive social issues like abortion rights is a loser. We want government out of lives! Except for reproductive rights, then we want the government to intrude. The hypocrisy of that position never seems to dawn on them.
You can't have smaller government and smaller budgets and a bigger military. If you want smaller, then everything has to be smaller.
You can't have low taxes and expensive programs like farm subsidies for poor southern states.
And we either have to come up with some type of national health care we can afford or make the collective decision to not treat some people and allow them to suffer and maybe die. Because what we have now sucks ass. - MelekTawus, on 04/05/2009, -2/+12Rush supporters talk about the increase in his listeners as proof that a large portion of the population is worried about Obama, but they have no idea how many of those listeners actually agree with him. Many people who support Obama, or at least do not agree with Rush, have heard about how crazy he's been lately and are listening for amusement or to know what the enemy is thinking.
Hell, I go to freerepublic.com every day, and it's not because I agree with the views expressed there. It's just interesting seeing the craziness. - freedomischaos, on 04/05/2009, -0/+9"Don't Panic!", isn't the first rule of some book?
- inactive, on 04/04/2009, -3/+12Yeah, I know, it's just... It seems a little ingrained at this point. I mean, I really thought that after the last election, they'd see that attitudes have shifted in this country and that kind of attitude doesn't really hold the same traction that it used to, but if anything it seems ot have made them worse.
- inactive, on 04/05/2009, -0/+9well that and the fact that there are way more republicans on welfare and other government subsidies...
Yet they're all afraid of "socialism"... they must also be afraid to look in the mirror. - FKnight, on 04/05/2009, -1/+9Libertarians RULE!!! OMFG!!!! STOP SIGNS AND SPEED LIMITS ARE FASCIST!
- multiformat, on 04/05/2009, -3/+10You are correct in only one area, he now owns this mess that Bush and the republican party put us in, speak about incompetence! While Bush and his team of half-wits, war mongers, out right crooks and evil doers were ***** up the world, middle America, republicans and democrats alike finally came to their senses and got rid of the "I'm in it for me" party. Republican are now in total disarray, and even if Obama makes some serious mistakes, the republican scars run so deep that even after four years we would rather have Obama again then the neo-facists of the former republican party. I'd rather drink the Obama kool-aid then march in line goose stepping with anything that resembles the Bush years. Nothing but greed there.
And wtf does "with a little luck, he will not finish four years" mean? It's one thing to be a racist but to wish something bad happens to him just makes you pure evil, luckily we voted your puppet masters out, in fact we kicked their asses out and said don't come back - ever. - Acewrap, on 04/05/2009, -1/+7McCain? Focused?
- pintomp3, on 04/05/2009, -3/+9Those damn 5 year olds need to shut up and get a job.
- rossnyc, on 04/05/2009, -2/+8Thank god they are dying out. Hopefully, in 15-20 years, most of these right wing extremists, ***** will be dead and gone.
- reeds1999, on 04/05/2009, -4/+10LOL! The right has it easier, they just scream "SOCIALIST" all day long.
- inactive, on 04/05/2009, -3/+9Yeah...that didn't take long:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090405/ap_on_re_us/pi ... - scottknick, on 04/05/2009, -4/+10Most of the people who can't afford health care are EMPLOYED.
- jfreeman, on 04/05/2009, -1/+7The religious fanatics didn't take over the party overnight; we won't be able to oust them overnight. But don't doubt that it can happen.
- SOS84, on 04/05/2009, -2/+8Ubergeek is proudly wearing his tin-foil hat.
- voyetra8, on 04/05/2009, -2/+8"Could you imagine 8.5% unemployment under Bush?"
Yeah, considering Obama has had just about oh... 60 days in office, and the unemployment rate is a lagging indicator, I'd say it would would look EXACTLY like our situation right now.
Obama not responsible for the current unemployment rate, you ***** revisionist. This ***** started before he even took office. Stop embarrassing yourself. - edstate, on 04/04/2009, -8/+13Pat Buchannan originally focused the GOP on the religious "block" of voters back w/ Nixon (the "block" strategy still alive today w/ unions, seniors, guns, race, etc). And while it's certainly helped them win elections (no argument there, none), it's hurt them exponentially in the long run. Bad. A deal with the proverbial devil, if you will.
Unfortunately, the "original" GOP message of personal responsibility, smaller government, fiscal responsibility is just harder to sell to teeming masses who eat fast food and watch "Dancing with the Stars". With that seminal modern "block focus", the GOP simply gave up, because it is just too hard to get people to accept that life isn't easy, we all shouldn't be given everything from cradle-to-grave, and that everyone isn't equal (on a personal basis, not racially etc) and that THAT's all okay, it's part of life, and rising above those barriers is part of the individual's betterment. These are ideals that make people THINK, instead of FEEL. And the sad reality is people vote with their emotions. - SOS84, on 04/05/2009, -6/+11Thank you for being part of the problem.
- deathandtaverns, on 04/05/2009, -0/+5or... did it work very well and give us 8 years of Bush? just sayin'
