For some reason they have the pump in Cat A and the rest of diabetes in Cat B. I think the law will be changed with the Hennick case. But that doesn't mean it will be easy for diabetics to obtain a law enforcement position. There are still many hurdles for an applicant. I believe there was a case in Texas for a police position. In do not know the outcome. I read of applicants for 1811 positions(Special Agent) winning cases with Customs and the IRS.
Does anyone know of a police officer applicant with Type 1 diabetes that was able to get on a police dept. Thanks SR - bernfarr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Minor correction. The police force is in Northampton. Though from this Boston Globe article(http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2007/05/15/insulin_pump_presents_hurdle_for_aspiring_officer/) it sounds like a state law - though I suspect is a regulation based on a mis-interpreted law.
Anyway, I agree that this is really BAD decision. They need to fix whatever is stopping this guy.
