- kamikazicondon, on 03/29/2009, -12/+330Sorta pissed me off how everyone was laughing actually...
- Frankyfan3, on 03/28/2009, -6/+283Norm Stamper is one of the people that actually convinced me that prohibition reform is not some pie in the sky dream of drug addicts.
I used to only be in favor of legalizing marijuana because I love hemp made products and could not believe our farmers are unable to cultivate such a useful and renewable commodity. I know many patients of medicinal marijuana, and it seems on par or less harmful than alcohol.
But, after listening to the arguments of LEAP, including from Norm Stamper and the many scientific studies addressing the problem of addiction, I now believe that the only way to actually decrease drug abuse, limit access to kids and reduce criminal violence associated with drugs, we need to legalize and regulate them all. - the2989, on 03/29/2009, -8/+198Keep the pressure up! Don't let the media sweep marijuana under the rug and ignore it.
- lokai, on 03/29/2009, -1/+150Yes, and internet community = people who really helped him get elected and super-exposed with... the internet.
- Garmonbozzia, on 03/29/2009, -13/+149I loved Obama, voted for him, damn near jizzed my pants when he won. But when he laughed off this issue, I lost all faith. I mean, I didn't expect him to hear the question, snap his fingers, and legalize it. I did, however, expect an intelligent attempt to handle the issue, not the childish dismissal we got. For shame, Barack. For shame.
- flyingsquirle, on 03/29/2009, -8/+135I hope that Obama realizes that Marijuana reform is not a way for stoner's to get high, but help for the ill, help for our economy, and help for the little college kid who will never reach his potential due to a Marijuana ticket.
- p420, on 03/29/2009, -3/+119The Obama team sent out emails to everyone on his mailing list to visit the white house website and submit him questions. The citizens did just that and then Obama just laughed at them.
This issue is so much bigger than just marijuana. It's an issue about our elected leaders simply not listening to us.
Obama might think marijuana is a laughing matter but maybe that's only because he never had the bad luck of being caught with marijuana when used it in the past. If Obama had gone to prison like 800,000 American citizens do every year for simple posession I think he wouldn't be laughing.
Why is it ok for Obama to smoke pot and the laugh at voters who ask about it. But if another college American smokes pot it's ok for them to be thrown in prison and lose any chance of having a good job for years to come. - CopsSayLegalize, on 03/29/2009, -3/+78Norm is one of the many members of a big group of cops who want to legalize. You can check it out at http://www.leap.cc
- esquire360, on 03/29/2009, -7/+76I feel Hemp should be legalized tomorrow, it is foolish to not have it as a crop. They need to stress the MJ/Hemp difference.
- x713, on 03/29/2009, -2/+70I don't smoke weed nor really want to, but I am also not ignorant to the fact that it is much safer than alcohol. In moderation, it would actually be better than alcohol. If we regulate it, I really do not see much of a downside other than cigarette companies having a fit. ***** I am sure they already have the system to integrate marijuana into their products. With the benefit to reduce reduce the drug smuggling problem, I see no reason why we are not going forward on this. Obama laughing was really embarrassing.
- StankInTheBank, on 03/29/2009, -6/+74Obama is really pissing me off lately. Quit jerking me off with your pop culture references and friendly speeches, and start appointing the right people and making some real changes.
- julianrod, on 03/29/2009, -3/+65They were all high... on Prozac or some other legal *****.
- CopsSayLegalize, on 03/29/2009, -0/+62Thank you so much for your kind remarks about LEAP's work! We definitely cannot win this war against the "war on drugs" unless many, many more citizen supporters like you get involved! Check out http://www.CopsSayLegalizeDrugs.com/badge by the way :-)
- GovernmentsGun, on 03/29/2009, -5/+52As long as people are being jailed, having their property confiscated, or even being killed, Obama should be dead serious about it as well.
- laofmoonster, on 03/29/2009, -2/+48I just dugg a HuffPost article criticizing obama. wtf?
- peopleme, on 03/29/2009, -28/+70WTF is wrong with this OBAMA guy?
1. Making fun of the special olympics
2. Laughing on CBS 60 min interview when discussing the economic crisis
3. Making fun of the online audience when they asked about marijuana
You have lost my respect. - larryjr88, on 03/29/2009, -3/+45This is change.
The people of America speak their needs and concerns and the leader simply laughs. - dancantone, on 03/29/2009, -3/+41This has to prove to you how powerful Big Pharma is and the control they have over our country and over those who run the DEA which is their personal security police enforcement.
Obama has literally laughed in America's face, straight on, a few times now if you ask me.
He just laughs about being a lying hypocrite...he really does.
This to me is about a much more serious issue than laughing off the entire "internets" as "just a bunch of loser stoners wanting to party". This is politicians ignoring science and doctors for all you "non" pot smokers who love to cheer when the government denies anyone cannabis.
I'll never get the square, conservative, do gooders, that can't get beyond their fears of the ol' demon weed. (My/your parents who still vote)
All propaganda films should be made like "Reefer Madness"...that goddamn film really ***** up simple minded peoples psyche!
Until things change...God DAMN America /n Idol!
You deserve all the bankster tyranny you can guzzle ya sell out *****.
*Climbs off soap box*
PS: quick edit...the whack jobs I spoke of up there ^^^ who cheer demonizing cannabis are now here in full Digg down force I see!
Now hit that red Digg down button ya weasel dicks and keep hiding from reality. - Igrift, on 03/29/2009, -0/+36"And show me the humor in a dying cancer patient who's denied legal access to a drug known to relieve pain and suffering."
Touche' - marx2k, on 03/29/2009, -2/+35I think you just hit on the exact people that feel betrayed by his dismissiveness. I know I do.
- HeavyMedz, on 03/29/2009, -7/+39"Hey I might have laughed at it before, but it actually is a great idea," --- all Obama has to say..
- flyingsquirle, on 03/29/2009, -4/+35OK, first off
***** you for not know who I am and what I stand for.
Second,
I do care about the legalization of Marijuana for more than the reasons stated above, one of which being the better treatment of Medical Marijuana patients (I am a MM patient) who are being harrassed and attacked by the DEA and police for legally obtained Marijuana and for LEGALLY smoking it in their houses.
And as for the little college kids, one of my good friends was a 3.73 GPA neuroscience major who was aiming to become a brain surgeon; however, one day while smoking a joint after his last final a police officer came up to his car and gave him a Marijuana ticket. After that he lost his federal aid, he left college, and is now barely able to pay for community college.
Tell me please, where smoking a joint should end someone's chance for a better life? - drowningfish, on 03/29/2009, -6/+35Instead of worrying about Obama mocking the question of legalization why not focus on your state legislature? If close to, or a little over a half (hypothetically) of the States in the U.S. legalize marijuana what exactly is the Fed going to do then? Declare war on 20+ States?
Let Obama focus on more important issues. Get involved at the State level and get the change you want. - flyingsquirle, on 03/29/2009, -1/+30Thank you for your understanding and support
- inactive, on 03/29/2009, -6/+33It's not about stoner's- it's about using the government's idiotic war on drugs, the wasting of billions of dollars and creating a police state that none of us want to live with.
If Obama thinks that's a joke then he's worse than George Bush who was an idiot and had an excuse. - TigerStar337, on 03/29/2009, -13/+40Looks like the stoners should have gone with Ron Paul instead of Mr. O.
- inactive, on 03/29/2009, -19/+44Obama didn't make a joke of US drug policy.
Generations of racist and fundamentalist ***** made a joke of US drug policy.
That's why scotch, which causes blackouts and belligerent behavior is legal and pot, which makes you sleepy and hungry, is not.
Obama is in a position to do something about it but that's not the "change" he had in mind.
Obama is about putting your change in his friends pockets. - Chahrlie5, on 03/29/2009, -6/+30It's much bigger than your narrow view of pot and potheads.
it goes into billions of dollars they spend fighting it, the millions and millions a year spent on jailing pot dealers/sellers/growers and the money that could instead be made by taxing/regulating it.
He seems to have enough time to dedicate to bailing out corporations that should fail, ncaa brackets, jay leno, etc etc, he always claims to be able to multi task, he could surely deal with pot too.
Oh, and I'm not a pothead, don't use it AT ALL. - letsgetsurgical, on 03/29/2009, -3/+27Stop making Paul supporters look like fools. We're not a fad.
- heynow21, on 03/29/2009, -2/+26The sad thing for me is it indicates Obama isn't as smart as I'd hoped. These gaffes are pretty stupid for someone who obviously tries hard to be "political". The joke he made about the marijuana question had no real benefit but will probably cost him several points in the polls .
- RickScarf, on 03/29/2009, -1/+24Um, no.
- ironhide, on 03/29/2009, -22/+44Impeach on what charges? Or are you just another empty-headed Paulbot who throws that term about without having the slightest idea what it entails?
- inactive, on 03/29/2009, -7/+29Does anyone understand how much money the drug companies would lose, if you could grow your own pain medication? How many patents would become worthless? They will not allow it. If this got to be a serious issue, drug companies would through hundreds of millions of dollars to stop it.
- MtheoryX, on 03/29/2009, -0/+21If you have to ask, you can't afford to do it.
- inactive, on 03/29/2009, -2/+23Jails are full of people who got drunk and killed someone.
They are also full of potheads who did nothing worse than have an ounce or more of weed. - SpeedSteamBoat, on 03/29/2009, -2/+22And 99% of people who fought alcohol prohibition were just alcoholics getting drunk?
You're a jackass. Learn the difference between use and abuse and try again. - DangerCollie, on 03/29/2009, -1/+21I don't smoke pot but still support legalization. There isn't a good reason I can find for marijuana to be illegal. Legalize it, tax it. Make money off of it instead of wasting billions. Free up those law enforcement resources to do something productive, like raid meth labs.
Now there's a plague on mankind. We had a meth cooker dump their waste products in a stream near here. Luckily it flows away from my property, but still too close. Meth has a tragic effect on user's health and lives. The only way pot ruins anyone's life is getting arrested for it. - cornstarch5, on 03/29/2009, -1/+21I don't think he's being pious; I know a few kids like that. Getting a pot misdemeanor can seriously mess with the possibility of getting a good job, or continuing education, for that matter.
- inactive, on 03/29/2009, -0/+19High class people who only smoke cigars, and light them with 100 dollar bills.
- p420, on 03/29/2009, -0/+18There is no question that Obama has more serious issues at hand. But that doesn't mean Obama should laugh and ignore voters and not take even 5mins of time he set aside to actually answer the question and explain why he feels the way he does.
The issue here is that Obama asked the voters to contact him, they did, and he ignored them and insulted them. - pseudononymist, on 03/29/2009, -0/+18I don't know... I've seen some pretty nice people turn into crazy ***** when and only when they are drunk
- Jlaugh, on 03/29/2009, -1/+19Which is no worse that people drinking beer. Drug probation is just a method of political control.
- Tddupre, on 03/29/2009, -1/+18o yea thats where i put my stash
- Snyz, on 03/29/2009, -0/+17I completely agree, drug addicts shouldn't have to associate with criminals or be considered ones themselves. The tax dollars that come from these drugs should be invested in health care and drug rehab programs. There should be clinics where health professionals can safely administer any dangerous drugs and offer help to those who want to quit.
- PillCosby, on 03/29/2009, -2/+19holy *****, the first huff po article i agree with.
- inactive, on 03/29/2009, -0/+16I would rather ravers get Ecstasy from a professional than a backyard cocktail maker. At least then they can legally be supervised and patrons can intervene without fear of prosecution. Currently Ravers risk permanent injury and death from poor manufacturing using alternative chemicals. The result is a person being ejected and discarded unconscious and barely alive, left to die as publicans etc cannot legally take responsibility for them.
That is just another problem in the equation of all things...
Sure its poor judgment on all levels but at least you have a chance to allow people to intervene in such situations and young lives, good people can be saved. - SpeedSteamBoat, on 03/29/2009, -2/+18Marijuana isn't meth. Period.
Btw, meth is just processed cough syrup, so technically it's already legalized in so far as you can buy the makings at a drug store legally.
That's a hell of lot more legal than marijuana is, and that's not mentioning all the other perfectly legal prescription and over the counter drugs which are way more harmful, dangerous, and addictive than marijuana.
Your point is entirely, unequivocally moot. - quomen, on 03/29/2009, -6/+21Well Ron Paul's beliefs truly don't matter. Do you know why? Because he believes in you being allowed to make your own decision.
