- mebethekoko, on 12/29/2008, -8/+132Time to ask why he's against the legalization of Marijuana.
- facelesscoward, on 12/29/2008, -3/+74This time, let's make sure he has to explain his position on cannabis prohibition. Currently, the highest-rated drug war question ends with "What do you think, Mr. President?" While the rest of the question is worded well, it would be better if we make sure he does not get a question that allows him to simply restate a position. Instead, vote for questions like "Why do you believe that marijuana should not be legalized? How is the prohibition of Marijuana any different than the prohibition of alcohol? 100,000 Americans die every year due to alcohol but none to Marijuana" and "The people of this country want marijuana decriminalization, when will marijuana be decriminalized? Why continue to spend billions of dollars to prohibit marijuana when evidence shows that the war on drugs is, as you said, 'an utter failure'?"
- zorgath, on 12/29/2008, -1/+47"Why isn't president-elect Obama in favor of the legalization of marijuana?"
This question is currently on page 8 or 9. We have to overcome the large amount of "X" votes - cards, on 12/29/2008, -1/+39Here's the "why" question I think we ought to vote up:
"Why do you believe that marijuana should not be legalized? How is the prohibition of Marijuana any different than the prohibition of alcohol? 100,000 Americans die every year due to alcohol but none to Marijuana" - Jazzillion, on 12/29/2008, -4/+32These are two really strong questions that we can rally behind to keep the focus on marijuana policy reform:
"Why won't you support the federal legalization of marijuana, which would increase tax revenue, reduce social harm, and create new jobs by regulating an industry that already exists in the US, even amidst our current prohibitionist policy?"
"Last time you said you don't support legalizing marijuana, but didn't offer any explanation. Can you articulate why you are in favor of keeping marijuana in the control of illegal gangs and cartels instead of taxing it and implementing age limits?" - rotundo, on 12/30/2008, -1/+25I don't get why people have this backwards. If we're really concerned about the Economy - 2 wars - Middle East conflict - Global Warming - Immigration - Job - Education - Prop 8 and everything else... then:
Why the hell are we wasting tons of money and resources on the marijuana prohibition?
Legalizing marijuana is not something we have to do, it's something we _don't_ have to do. Meaning that unlike almost every other suggestion on the list it frees up resources as opposed to using more. It's a no brainer. Before we can do other things, we have to stop wasting our time on that.
I have never smoked pot and I don't care to. I just want us to be doing things that matter. - kingUssop, on 12/30/2008, -5/+29Could someone who's not a digg power nerd resubmit this and I'll digg that instead?
- facelesscoward, on 12/29/2008, -2/+24I think we should also vote down the questions that don't ask why so they don't use those as a summary of all of the marijuana-related questions to justify giving a non-answer.
In response to concerns that marijuana legalization is trivial compared to everything else the country is going through: I agree, but he has answered most of those questions relatively extensively. When posed with the marijuana question, the team just shrugged it off by restating his campaign position. If we want him to hold true to his campaign promise of opening up the government to the American people, we cannot let his administration treat our concerns so trivially.
As far as other questions go, I would like to see him explain his seemingly unconditional support for Israel. Obviously, getting that Hamas endorsement rescinded by talking tough is good politics, but I don't see how using such language as the President-Elect does anything more than advance the view that Israel and America are partners in some grand imperialist venture. We need to soften our tone and disavow violence and human rights violations from both sides if we want to see the peace process move forward. - zorgath, on 12/29/2008, -2/+24"Last time you said you don't support legalizing marijuana, but didn't offer any explanation. Can you articulate why you are in favor of keeping marijuana in the control of illegal gangs and cartels instead of taxing it and implementing age limits?"
Tom, Washington, DC
The previous question I posted was retracted by the author. This question is one of the better asked questions out of the 100+ marijuana related questions. This question is on page 4 or 5 on the "Additional Issues" tab. - grason1129, on 12/29/2008, -6/+25We have to keep the heat on him about cannabis and let him know we are not going away. The tubes created Obama and now he will know we won't go away!
Legalize it! - inactive, on 12/30/2008, -2/+20pavelmah steals articles.
- res181hh33, on 12/30/2008, -4/+22My question:
"Obama can you make Ron Paul the new drug Czar?" - jakereilly, on 12/30/2008, -3/+191. Create a website in which voters can submit questions to you.
2. Ignore those opinions.
3. Remain in power.
4. Laugh. - thevelvetsun, on 12/29/2008, -2/+17"What strategies other than bailouts can we employ to keep jobs in America?"
"I'm concerned about the banks who received tax payers money and have had no accountability. Will this be corrected after President elect Obama is in office?"
Remember to vote these questions up too! - soccerman90, on 12/30/2008, -2/+16Since when can only one thing be changed? its not a decision between solving the middle or legalizing marijuana. we can have both
- smotpoker, on 12/30/2008, -3/+17None of the issues you've mentioned have anything to do with the legitimized persecution/oppression of otherwise law abiding U.S. citizens. Yet one issue directly impacts and significantly worsens several of those that you mentioned and leads to the unjust persecution of millions every year. Can you guess what that one issue is?
- hc1153, on 12/30/2008, -4/+18Buried for pavelmah
- Pssdoff, on 12/30/2008, -6/+18He's not going to answer why he's against marijuana...
He won't answer any questions about the Federal Reserve...
He will have no response to why he voted for the Patriot Act, FISA Telecom Immunity Act, or the bailouts...
He will not comment on his relationship with Israel...
He has nothing to say about where his birth certificate is...
He will have no answer for when the US will leave Iraq...
He won't be clarifying his position on creating an American Homeland Schutzstaffel, equal in size to the US Military...
He will not elaborate on how he intends to pay for the trillions of dollars in new spending he has planned...
He fields no questions pertaining to an investigation into 9/11...
He sure as hell isn't going to be looking into any of the crimes committed by Bush/Cheney... - inactive, on 12/30/2008, -1/+12Yeah, I have a good one. Will you ever consider doing anything about the ludicrous Federal Reserve.
- jhsnowboard, on 12/30/2008, -1/+11LEGALIZE CANNABIS! WTF AT LEAST GET FEDS OFF IT
- Paulorific, on 12/30/2008, -1/+11"Will you consider legalizing marijuana so that the government can regulate it, tax it, put age limits on it and create millions of new jobs."
Bad question. Last time they just said "no", and that was it. We have to ask specifically why or no one will get a straight answer. Obama is a politician, after all. - lukis100, on 12/30/2008, -2/+11My thought exactly.
STOP stealing submissions! - bongfarmer, on 12/29/2008, -2/+11I just want an explanation
"why is marijuana illegal?" - TheMachine1, on 12/30/2008, -2/+11Pavelmah bogarts all the weed at parties.
- heartsblood, on 12/30/2008, -1/+9Seriously, are you ***** retarded? It's done, it's over, State officials form Hawaii have proved it is on record so STFU already.
- apostledeets, on 12/30/2008, -1/+9They're inter-related. Legalizing Marijuana can create entirely new industry in America, hence jobs, and having an overall positive effect on the economy. Not just with the recreational aspect of it, although that by itself can bring in much revenue (just look at the tobacco industry, take away the synthetic chemicals and addiction, and add in all the nutritional benefits of marijuana) but also with the innovation of hemp technologies, it can be an industry bigger then plastics, more durable and longer lasting. And with it being legalized, it will take away the social stigma of the medicinal uses, and perhaps some REAL research can be done and we can have some real medical breakthroughs. Nothing but good can come out of the legalization of marijuana, not even mentioning how absurd it is for the government being able to tell us what we can and can not do with our own bodies.
- mrwoo, on 12/30/2008, -2/+10Who did you nick this article from then?
- Rustymetal, on 12/30/2008, -1/+8Your the idiot, we have been shouting no to bailouts, fisa, wars, ect.
No one listens, we may as well call out the government on marijuana cuz its the most provable mistake the governments made. - SupitsRick, on 12/30/2008, -6/+12Legalize it. vote on all marijuana questions!!!
- theaceoffire, on 12/30/2008, -0/+6I did, I have, and I will.
I have never used any non-prescribed medications. I have never smoked, I have never drunk coffee. Hell, I don't even have a speeding ticket.
I am as boring as you can get, but this still makes sense to me. I don't want this "war on drugs", and I don't like paying for it, especially since it obviously has not helped. - lukis100, on 12/30/2008, -3/+9It's pretty retarded if you ask me. Did the past one solve/answer anything?
The not legalizing marijuana is pretty hypocritical from someone who, if I am not mistaken, said he smoked it himself. And then the whole priest guy thing. It's like giving the finger to the people that supported him. - kemp34, on 12/30/2008, -0/+6To hell with the claims of "political suicide" BS. It's only "political suicide" because morons like you say its political suicide. How on earth is enforcing draconian legislation on marijuana considered by some be sensible policy and a freaking sacred cow? This is nonsensical. Societies die from such decadent intellectual rot as your "political suicide" reasoning.
- supernovasky, on 12/30/2008, -1/+7I propose we flood EVERY page with marijuana questions until our voice is heard.
- smotpoker, on 12/30/2008, -1/+7@faceless
I disagree. The more prohibition-related questions that get popular, the harder it is to disregard the issue and greater the chance media will cover it.
If all but one or two get voted down everyone will think the last session was just a fluke or some such (not to mention it is hard to coordinate which questions get voted up and which are voted down which could result in everyone essentially cancelling each other out)
If nothing else just don't vote on the questions you dislike but do NOT vote them down if they support your cause/position - inactive, on 12/30/2008, -2/+8it was illegal in the 20s because some businessmen felt it was bad for business. add in j. edgar hoover and we have the ***** you see today.
- res181hh33, on 12/30/2008, -0/+6Would be more effective to focus voting on the well thought-out questions so we don't get shot down again
- mgraham80, on 12/30/2008, -0/+5Yes, indeed, but we need to settle on one question to recommend, such as the "Why isn't president-elect Obama in favor of the legalization of marijuana?"
We must not dilute our strength! =) - theaceoffire, on 12/30/2008, -0/+5So who started the whole Czar thing?
Before you know it, we will send our kids to school with the bus driving Czar to learn under the teacher Czar (etc, etc) - stonerish, on 12/30/2008, -1/+6weed/hemp is this country's salvation...
- kc8yds, on 12/30/2008, -1/+6better yet, put him in charge of all things finance
but then again obama would not deal with his policies because they actually make sense - inactive, on 12/30/2008, -1/+6the whole dodging the issue is good politicking. change is a different matter.
- ha3er0, on 06/16/2009, -23/+28I agree.
It is more important than the Economy - 2 wars - Middle East conflict - Global Warming - Immigration - Job - Education - Prop 8 and everything else.
I want my ***** legal Marijuana! - Insolence, on 12/30/2008, -0/+5God damnit, are you KIDDING me?
From Norml.org:
"Look around people…almost 100 million Americans live in a state or municipality that have had decriminalized cannabis possession laws on the books for decades (From west to east: AK, OR, CA, NV, CO, NE, MS, OH, NC, NY and ME)."
Are you ***** KIDDING me, seriously? - peaceninja, on 12/29/2008, -1/+6I don't like that first question. It's a little sarcastic and will only elicit an ambiguous response from Obama. We need to be more pointed.
Although, I was quite angry with Obama's ambiguous response regarding legalization of marijuana. I don't think he is stupid and is oblivious to the benefits of a nation with legalized marijuana. I just think he realizes he's dealing with a nation who has elected someone like Bush twice in office, so he is trying to hard to "reach in the middle" with his stances and with who he chooses to give an invocation at his inauguration.
Obama, stop being a pussy. - SetOverSet, on 12/30/2008, -2/+6I have a question for change.gov... Why did Obama vote in favor of the 700 billion bailout package?...you know the same one that McCain voted for too. Maybe the website should be changed to same.gov.
- dustbowl, on 12/30/2008, -0/+4Here is my question: Will George Bush be reprimanded for using WMDs as a reason to invade Iraq, when there clearly wasn't?
- Tiak, on 12/30/2008, -2/+6Apparently they removed the functionality that let people link to searches, and posts by specific users because they didn't want popular questions linked to and voted up by independent communities... They're on to us!!!
- CivicTV, on 08/14/2009, -0/+4Thank you faceless. I recommend every other person who is for legalization get behind one well worded question.
- travelon77, on 12/30/2008, -2/+6Its amazing how many people have Marijuana as their most important topic. Guess more of the 'normal people' want easier access to their medication. Rich people just get prescriptions from doctors. Of course, they're still paying too much also. Thank you, drug companies! No really though, with everything going on in the world - or just in America - I think there are plenty of things that should get more attention than marijuana drug law.
- CivicTV, on 08/14/2009, -0/+4Lets all put our efforts behind one well crafted question please. Also give us some information so we can reach and vote for it.
