On Leo Strauss and Natural Right
laphilosophe.wordpress.com — A blogger introduces Strauss beautifully - the question is what our understanding of government (Constitutionalism, but also modern democracy/socialism ala Rousseau) lacks as a theoretical whole. If there are to be men of character, there needs to be an emphasis on education, and about that only ancient philosophy seems to be serious.

- Indyanna, on 02/11/2008, -0/+5Would she appreciate it, if I said that I love the fact that there's someone else out there who cleans bathrooms while contemplating what she has just been reading, but I didn't get very far into her post because it was way over my head - ?
- KJeffV, on 02/11/2008, -0/+3Hmmm . . . bathroom cleaners/readers: I know some of the mbrs of THAT club. Hey, Indy, have you tried "Kaboom!"? I don't gen'lly mention products, but this stuff changed my life. We usually rent wherever we go, and some of the baths I run across are simply . . . well, bad.
- Indyanna, on 02/11/2008, -0/+5LOL - oh my word - you got me laughing on this one. I never dreamed I'd be swapping household hints on digg!! No, I haven't heard of Kaboom, but maybe it just hasn't made it to Hungary yet. However, if I do, believe me, I will try it! :-))) *still laughing*
- KJeffV, on 02/11/2008, -0/+5Pls see—> http://www.GreatCleaners.com
I used to proclaim, "There isn't any substitution f/elbow grease!" As a recently frmr vehicle detailer, I've changed my mind: Technology is a wonderful thing; it has advanced greatly since my da in the USCG wherein we held "field day" mostly w/"soojie powder." I heartily recommend Oxy-Clean f/pet stains in carpet, OrangeGlo if you can't get your hands on real orange oil, & esp'y KaBoom Bowl Blaster: It removes ANY bathroom ceramic stain. Happy cleaning! {And READING!}

- Iconoclast25, on 02/11/2008, -1/+5Hey, amigo - thanks for the link. There's lots of us can use these tidbits of knowledge, even if they aren't in the same league as Plato!

- ashok, on 02/11/2008, -0/+4Indyanna - I'm sure she would love it. I want her to know the audience is there anytime she wants it - all she has to do is write.
- Indyanna, on 02/11/2008, -0/+4Done.

- cashman57, on 02/11/2008, -1/+5Race should not matter. Religion should not matter. Both are tools used against those who seek freedom by those who want to eliminate it.Both are against what America is about, the right to be free in your thought and your speech and to live your life in accordance with your own beliefs so long as those beliefs do not infringe on the rights of others.
I do not believe the Jews have all of the answers as I do not believe the scientologists have all of the answers.
I respect both until we have a clash.
More important to me than race or religion is the freedoms our founders pledged their honor and their fortunes and their lives to protect. - ashok, on 02/11/2008, -1/+5It's my job as a political scientist to inform anyone who wants to know about as many sides of a debate as possible.
If you have questions about Strauss, ask me. Please don't go to some third-rate wingnut source when you've got someone like me around, who will give you the link to the wingnut source and 923749729792 other links that are far better and more balanced.
Whether or not I have any use as someone who knows is not up to me - this is a democracy. It's up to you to be informed, and to choose how you will be informed. - chicofaraby, on 02/12/2008, -1/+3http://evatt.org.au/publications/papers/112.html
A good explanation of Strauss and his neo-cons. - yellowcakewalk, on 02/12/2008, -3/+2I am confident the person that posted this article about Leo Strauss was just kidding.
- americangoy, on 02/12/2008, -1/+5He is the father of the neocon movement. One must realize that the neocon movement is similar in its fanatic zeal, the pure fantasy as opposed to logic aspect, as the Communists and the Nazis were in the early XX.
While the Nazis and Communists killed tens of millions of people, the neocons have only managed to destabilize one country in the Middle East - Iraq, and the victims of their actions are counted only in single digits millions.
Do not worry - give them time, their doctrine of war for economic hegemony and profit (and to help Israel a bit wink wink) will involve us in a war with Iran soon. Already there was Tonkin Gulf 2 in the Straits of Hermez (so laughably staged that the world laughed almost as much as they did at the Powell's presentation of pickup trucks in the desert as mobile WMD labs at the UN). - jamesotis, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1After several paragraphs of the author's repellant navel-gazing (was that caffinated tea with lemon -- or milk?), I quit.
