- kmg365, on 10/12/2007, -31/+150"A brief reminder, Mr. Bush: You are not the United States of America.
You are merely a politician whose entire legacy will have been a willingness to make anything political — to have, in this case, refused to acknowledge that the insult wasn't about the troops, and that the insult was not even truly about you either — that the insult, in fact, is you."
Absolutely right. Bush is the big insult to the United States, and the World. - threepio, on 10/12/2007, -24/+140Dear Mr. Olbermann,
From those of us who look in on your country from afar: Thank you. You've given us hope that the American media hasn't been entirely co-opted by corporate interests and back alley political exclusivity deals.
I haven't the slighest idea where I'd find your show on the television, sir, but we do enjoy your commentaries via "The Google" and YouTube. You've given us hope for your mid-term elections - we in the north are awaiting, with baited breath, a return to common sense and common decency in American politics.
Thank you, sir, for having the guts, the wits, and frankly, the balls, to say what it is that you say. We wish you the best.
Good night and good luck. - streak, on 10/12/2007, -16/+81DAMN!!!! Where has this guy been hiding? He says on network television everything I (and nearly everyone I talk with) have been thinking... and then some. Olbermann is starting to renew my faith in our news media as not being just an echo chamber but a place where minds give rise to thoughts that get expressed openly and clearly.
- senorBojangles, on 10/12/2007, -13/+74Uh...then don't.
- kesin, on 10/12/2007, -13/+67the difference between Oreily and olbermann is that Oreily doesn't speak for the right either he just lam basts and criticize people based on their opinions. If you actually watch his show...its a cluster ***** of him picking the most extreme people to put on his show just to berate them.
Olbermann gives his opinions(usually only about how the Bush government has failed us) in a short 5 minute dialog after his main show is over..also he usually addresses the speech to no one but the president and basically lets you listen in on what he is thinking. Now you could say Olbermann is left leaning, but when the president has a around a 35% approval rating and the Republican party has even less...well I guess hes speaking to the majority. - neoform, on 10/12/2007, -17/+70Cept.. olbermann doesn't lie and spread fear for invisible boogeymen.
- Dquinz63, on 10/12/2007, -11/+56Yet ... here you are, and boy are we all glad.
- padler1124, on 10/12/2007, -24/+70Wow, honestly everytime I watch an Olbermann clip it just re-opens my eyes as to how terrible Bush really is. I can't believe how ridiculously political he is. I mean none of the past presidents can compare with him, Republican or Democrat.
- znachtman, on 10/12/2007, -17/+62Yes... Kerry made a stupid political move... but to have John McCain join the ranks of the Swift Boat for Deceit folks was a bit core-less.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+52That's not what he's saying at all; he's saying that someone who _deliberately_ misunderstands a joke, and _edits a videoclip out of context_ to support that misunderstanding, isn't an idiot - he's a liar.
- B1ackD0g, on 10/12/2007, -15/+55I love it when Keith gets a head of steam and starts rolling. Just one nagging worry though. How long until he's declaired a traitor and shipped off to Gitmo?
- canadianguy33, on 10/12/2007, -6/+45I don't understand why all Americans aren't outraged by Bush. I'm not even American and my blood was boiling when I saw the clips of George Bush saying Kerry owed the troops an apology. Bush is willfully and intentionally manipulating the American people and getting away with it. I don't know if America can afford to wait until 2008 to get rid of him.
- drowningfish, on 10/12/2007, -8/+38nixonrichard -
His show isn't News at all. That's like calling The O'Reilly Factor News.
It's essentially a News Magazine filled with commentary relative to the host about current events. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -20/+45Your post isn't even worth responding to.
- znachtman, on 10/12/2007, -10/+35Honestly, it was nice to hear Olberman discuss John McCain. The night before, on Hannity and Colmes, McCain looked like the world's worst politician. Before that, I would have been very encouraged to support a guy like that if he does indeed run for President in '08. However, it seems that McCain always does this around election time.
McCain has sold his soul. Politics have destroyed this man. - areric, on 10/12/2007, -8/+32@nixonrichard
I wonder if Edward R Murrow would agree with you?
Personally I would love to see CBS can Katie Couric and bring over Olbermann from MSNBC. Return that network to being a front for progressive media. - uptown, on 10/12/2007, -8/+31I'm surprised Olberman hasn't broken out a Bush voodoo doll yet....
- streak, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27Re: O'Reilly, don't forget the half of his show that is spent in literal self-promotion. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
I think it's cool that Woodward's book has vastly outsold O'Reilly's, after O'Reilly made a point of mentioning early on that his own book was out-selling Woodward's. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+30Just out of curiosity, what's good about the Iraq war? Saddam got his ass kicked, yeah, but apart from that?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Actually, I'd dearly love to ask Lieberman that question.
However, I don't think he reads digg. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23shyshock
of course it was a botched joke and as much as you would love to believe otherwise it still was a botched joke. Oh i would believe you if kerry was just a politician and not a veteran and and not a graduate of yale. Not only would he not slight himself by saying the military is for underachievers. But noone in the military would slight the soldiers like that. NOONE.
Bush on the other hand is a self admitted c student.. SELF ADMITTED.
Soooooo you can seee where this joke was going... and it was not directed at the troops.
I love tony snow responce and that is how you can see what a joke it was..
he said something like i dont get it, where would us go.. "us it get stuck in iraq" it doesnt make sence, doesnt wash.. LOL tony tony tony.. we all knew where the us was supposed to go. - aresef, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21Yeah, who says he's a Democrat? He could be a Green or Libertarian for all we know. We Greens would be happy to have him.
- leobaby, on 10/12/2007, -13/+29such a compelling argument...
- egotripping, on 10/12/2007, -17/+33Unlike you, who doesn't watch any tv, or read any books, or look up any websites.
You truly think for yourself. Unfortunately you end up knowing nothing. - PaineW, on 10/12/2007, -9/+25If there's one thing Keith Olbermann is NOT, it's a hypocrite. His words are consistent, and I have never heard of him acting in a way that contradicts what he has said.
Whether you agree with him or not, he cannot be called a hypocrite.
And whether you agree with him or not, the man is not stupid. He consistently assembles a coherent argument and presents it in an intelligent way. You can disagree with the conclusions he draws from the facts, quotes and clips he uses, but you cannot claim that he is stupid.
And no one can claim that a person is a hypocrite or stupid because of his (assumed) party affiliation. "Stupid" and "Hypocrite" are functions of thought and action, not of belonging.
In short, name-calling detracts from the power of your argument. Dispute the facts and the claims if you wish, but using ad hominem attacks will only reveal your depth of thinking.
PW - truthstream, on 10/12/2007, -7/+21The reason they make it to the front page is because there is nothing of relevence for the right to put up that is 'diggable'. Try doing something other than taking our rights, killing our troops and destroying our country and maybe the right will get a little more love on digg!
- successrealm, on 10/12/2007, -8/+22@phatt-matt
SO, like all your fellow sheep, you have resorted to nothing more than "shooting the messenger" tactics instead of REFUTING the "Message" itself I see, as usual.
Oh so typical of you 30 percenters....baaaa! It's the librul conspiracy! baaaa! - Nydas, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20Reporting LIVE from Iraq. Sorry no good news to report. I will tell you this though! A few people are happy about our occupation of this country. Namely the people who are making money off of us being here. That's about it though....
O WAIT! And the.....wait.... no they hate us to :( - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+25Yeah, Limbaugh is a fountain of factualness. Witness his attack on Michael J Fox, and his well-founded views on global warming.
- Easty, on 10/12/2007, -8/+21Wow. That was powerful stuff.
- truthstream, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18I do - olbermann anyways. I agree with the O'Reilly=douchebag remark. Keith is just saying what everyone else is afraid to say on national TV. O'Reilly just spews administration spin and lies. I wish I could say Keith was spewing left wing liberal spin, hoever it is obvious that the majority of high-ranking democratic talking heads do not have the spine to say what Keith says. If they did, this election wouldnt be as close as its going to be. The republicans would be DONE.
- Y2JCrisis, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Apparently Democrats like Lieberman don't have a good enough answer for the voters. That's why democrats decided to not even let him run for re-election as a democrat.
- streak, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17You, sir (@phatt-matt), appear to be disheartened by the freedom granted you by our Forefathers and the democratic process. Leave your indignation by the roadside. No one says you must stay here in diggnation.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15@MrBlackthorne
Isn't this what right-wingers on Digg always do though? They can't dispute the facts, so they attack the messenger instead. Presumably they hope that if they can call the news source "biased" enough, the embarrassing facts reported will somehow go away. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+17Bush voodoo doll? Hmmm... That's a pretty neat business idea.
- kashmir, on 10/12/2007, -7/+18maybe because truth is sexy?
- nixonrichard, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16He keeps it under the table . . . he also has a John Stossel doll.
- letterten, on 10/12/2007, -8/+18Keith is one of the only newscasters/personalities to call out the President. Everyone else buries their head in the sand. What we says here is TRUE, not editorialized, but true.
I hope we can have his show on webcam when he's whisked off to Gitmo. - MrBlackthorne, on 10/12/2007, -8/+18I find it interesting that Olbermann's only criticism here comes in the form of one-line insults. His point can't be critiqued because he's not wrong, so you insult the man instead. Brilliant.
- SerpentMage, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Two words... Holy Crap!
That was good! What I liked is that he took a big picture view and said, "What do you see in this picture?" - BlakeEM, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13I have yet to see a single intelligent rebuttal of anything Olbermann has said. You don't make a single point other than just talking down to him.
Also he is Libertarian. Of course the only words you know is left, liberal, and democrat for anyone who disagrees with you.
Now, I am a Libertarian as well and I prefer old school republican over democrats and I know the joke was about Bush first time I heard it, there is no need to think about it at all. You must be a ***** idiot to think he's insulting the troops, someone who has fought for this country more than anyone in the bush administration.
If Olbermann is lying please post his lies and give proof that it's a lie, otherwise shut the ***** up you just look like a ***** idiot. Of course this should be very easy for you because going by your post he's a ***** lier that no one cares about. I think that's just anotherway of saying "I can't fight him on his points so I'll just be a *****".
Sorry about being harsh but I seriously wonder if some people have been dropped on there head as a child a bit to many times... Prove me wrong, I dare you. - Y2JCrisis, on 10/12/2007, -12/+21How do you know he's a Democrat?
- mr.hostility, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Someone with the guts to say what most think. Olbermann is my hero of late.
- egotripping, on 10/12/2007, -11/+20Well, they are taking away out liberties, that's for sure.
- redpoint13, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13"(1) Remove WMD's from Iraq, and "
- They knew this intelligence was not to be trusted before we entered Iraq. Go look up the Downing Streets Memo.
"(2) Free the people of Iraq from their ruthless dictator. It always amazes me how people forget about number 2 and focus on number 1."
- We weren't greeted as liberators.
- If that is a good reason to invade a sovereign nation, we have a lot more sovereign nations to invade.
- All the polls indicate they don't want us there.
- It is estimated the violence has killed more civilians than Saddam did.
"There have always been two primary objectives in the war. Once the WMD's were found to be inaccurate intel, number 1 was dropped from the primary list and the focus became number 2. The focus, to this day and for many into the future, will be on number 1 -- while completely ignoring (or even claiming its later manufacture) point number 2."
- Bush team has never apologized for manufacturing the WMD evidence. They claimed they knew exactly where they were. They claimed they knew everything about the WMD's. Yet they weren't there.
- Just stop with the "were liberating" them *****. Do you watch the TV? Does it look like the car bombs, the people crying, the utter chaos and civil war is something they want? Do you read the news? The tons of polls that show they don't want us there? Have you looked at how much electricity they get there? 2-3 hours a day if they are lucky, and they almost had it for 24 hours a day when Saddam was in power. Do you know ANYTHING about what is going on over there?
- It's quite ***** obvious that he wasnt trying to degrade the troops, and its utterly ridiculous to think that a war veteran would say such things. Absolutely absurd.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downing_street_memo
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legitimacy_of_the_2003_invasion_of_Iraq - streak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8@wcasey, I think the metaphorical comparison becomes apt by considering the canes sent to Brooks' by his consistuents. Olbermann refers to this later.
- wcasey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9During the torture bill debate I was flipping back and forth between Olbermann and O'Reilly. They were talking about the same bill, but their facts were entirely different and their arguments were completely opposed. The guests they brought on to challenge their own arguuments didn't bring up the best arguments of the opposing side. So while Olbermann and O'Reilly both criticize the politicization, they of course play right into it. Of course I happen to agree with Olbermann a lot more often than O'Reilly, but I don't think the Brooks/Sumner comparison here is quite fair. There's a big difference between a physical beating and a metaphorical or rhetorical beating.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+18You are comparing a druggie who is unmarried and takes Viagra (bear in mind that he is pro abstinence education) to someone who simply expresses his opinions. Nice.
- dragongrrl, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10p.s. -- i'm a friggin geek meself. as an architect, i welcome people who question my designs and find the holes. i don't want the ***** my team designs and builds to break when it goes live.
- dragongrrl, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14yes, Olbermann's show is more "entertainment" than "news"
but what makes him stick out is that he's the only one at a (semi-)major television news and information outlet saying these things. (no, Comedy Central doesn't count)
the conservatives have held the airwaves for a while now. it's good to see a different voice and viewpoint is getting some attention.
oh yeah, and ratings != truth
don't you friggin geeks realize the best solution comes when people are allowed to voice their objections to the design freely? when everyone simply agrees we end up with crappy solutions that break. -
