Obama's Blueprint for Change - pure substance
barackobama.com — I've seen a number of people on digg complain that Obama has "no substance" and that he's "all talk". If you are one of those people, here's your chance. Every topic has a PDF at the bottom that goes into fine detail on all his proposed solutions. Barack Obama's positions are more open and detailed than any other candidate.

- Obamillusion, on 09/03/2008, -4/+0I'll summarize:
1. Abolition of property in land and application of all rents of land to public purposes.
2. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.
3. Abolition of all rights of inheritance.
4. Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels.
5. Centralization of credit in the banks of the state, by means of a national bank with state capital and an exclusive monopoly.
6. Centralization of the means of communication and transport in the hands of the state.
7. Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the state; the bringing into cultivation of waste lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan.
8. Equal obligation of all to work. Establishment of industrial armies, especially for agriculture.
9. Combination of agriculture with manufacturing industries; gradual abolition of all the distinction between town and country by a more equable distribution of the populace over the country.
10. Free education for all children in public schools. Abolition of children's factory labor in its present form. Combination of education with industrial production, etc.
Ring a bell? Yup, communist manifesto.
We've already got the tax and the central bank, and they're working on taking our inheritance.

- hippieslaugh, on 02/13/2008, -5/+20Everyone is SO worried that there are no "specifics" in Obama's campaign... and we can only get 8 diggs?
Me thinks that maybe... they don't know how to read? ...They don't really care? Have they even read the issues of their own candidate?- brad3378, on 02/17/2008, -12/+10Obama supporters would rather watch one of his inspirational speeches than discuss his policies.......At least among typical digg users. Even this particular webpage is a bit vague. Don't get me wrong - there's a few specifics such as "pay teachers more", but that particular one is a local property tax issue not a federal issue.
- mreal197, on 02/21/2008, -5/+12Most Obama supporters are well aware of his policies already, so this is for the folks who can't find anything else about the man to bitch about. At least he has views about the policies unlike 100 year war lobbyist bedding McCain. He just wants to bomb, bomb, bomb Iran. Does he even have an economic policy? Or does "Do what Bush did" count as a policy?
- Parapadrifter, on 05/03/2008, -2/+3doubt it - I wonder how many looked at Pauls platform... Definatly even less than know about Obama's. But, I'll bite.. I'll read it
- iainc, on 09/28/2008, -0/+1@Parapadrifter:
Man, you really need the GOP to lose this one. The tired old beast needs a time out. If it loses, it will be entirely down to McCain and that bimbo second he nominated. The flip side is that we can hope that the real talent within the GOP (like Dr Paul) can begin to assert some new found authority over that party.
Obama supporter or no, sure as eggs is eggs, the Dems will keel over eventually. Perhaps when Obama has run his two terms. But it will happen. And we'll need a rejuvinated GOP to take the reigns. But for now, the best thing to do with the GOP is put it out of its misery.
I like Dr Paul. A lot. But lets face it. His own party wouldn't nominate him so what chance does he have now? Change is needed now.

- brad3378, on 02/17/2008, -2/+28I read the entire 64 page Blueprint for the future document last night and even as a vocal Ron Paul supporter, I have to admit I REALLY liked some of his ideas. However, one particular issue really bothers me. I still don't understand the reasoning. I'm hoping a friendly Obama supporter can explain it to me. In the document, Obama says that seniors making less than $50K shall pay no income tax.
Honest Question: Why are younger generations subsidizing the income tax dollars of our senior citizens?
Aren't we already picking up too much of the Senior Citizen tab with our Social Security Taxes,
Our inherited $30,500 per citizen national debt (which excludes the boomers after they retire and quit paying income taxes),
and soon to be providing them with a free ride with Socialized Health Care in a future system they have not paid into?
So why can't the Baby Boomers just pay the same amount on their income taxes as the rest of us?- u2wedge, on 02/21/2008, -10/+10they've actually paid more than you during their lifetime; now it's your turn.
- brad3378, on 03/01/2008, -3/+12The difference is that my generation still has a lifetime to go,
yet we'll be facing challenges that earlier generations didn't have to deal with such as
$3.00+ Gasoline (estimated $4 by spring 2008 beyond that who knows?)
a $30,600 per citizen national debt.
Exorbitant costs associated with global warming.
Brutal competition from other countries for even our lowest paying jobs.
Record food price increases (Predicted)
Stagflation (Predicted by some)
etc. etc.
How about a system where we all pay equally and don't take advantage of other generations that lack numbers at the voting booth?- kaeryn, on 04/17/2008, -10/+5Are you kidding? Prices go up for every generation. Your generation just happened to be the WE DON"T VOTE generation so you have what you deserve. $4 gas and $5.00 breakfasts.
- wiredDeath, on 05/10/2008, -6/+3Just FYI. Global Warming is a lie.
- Spudster, on 04/29/2008, -2/+5Considering many of the current old people went through and supported their government during World Wars I think you have little reason to think your future will be worse.
- rearlgrant, on 09/14/2008, -0/+2Let's get real, ok "anti-government conservatives". The tax on Social Security is a shell game.
Republicans get to claim to support a meager Social Security payment (it's all going to frauds ya' know).
Then they get to rail against taxing it b/c they are anti-tax (now why under Regan, Bush I and Bush II w/DeLay they never abolished the tax... I dunno.)
Set the rate of distribution on Social Security based on current income and be done with it. Giving out money for Social Security and then taking away some proportion of it is stupid.
- brad3378, on 03/01/2008, -3/+12The difference is that my generation still has a lifetime to go,
- munkyxtc, on 02/21/2008, -2/+9I don't necessarily agree with Sen Obama on all of the issues myself, but to me, in terms of aligning my views and/or ideals to the candidates stance on issues hands down Obama is that person. I yearn for the day where a candidate has views that everyone can agree with but with such a diverse world out there it is not a realistic expectation.
To your point, I will say that I think $50k is too high of a limit; that's well above sustainable income in most area's of the US so I think the impact will be we'll have less tax money and most in that range will continue to live life with no major impact to their spending. Obviously, I don't have population information handy at this moment, but I'd think if we scaled that limit back to say $40k and under that would still encompass most of the Senior Citizen population but weed out the top 1-2% earners in that category, who in my opinion at 62 years earning over $50k are still capable of contributing to taxes. Sure, it would ease taxes on some people, but in the long run I think it could help communities and peoples quality of life.
Now, on that note, when it comes to taxes I don't have the perfect answer; but I think that reducing gov't spending would be a good place to start. Sen Obama is pressing for an open gov't that will among other things set up a website to see how your representatives have voted and/or plan to vote on each issue, additionally he has stated that anything that would come across his desk he would like to expose to the American People for a period of no less than 5 days in a public forum type setup where anyone can comment on the proposal before he would take any type of action on it. I think both of these ideas are fantastic [while the 2nd may be hard to take everyones few into account given the number of Citizens but it's a starting point]. It would also at a glance allow us to see who are there is spending the most money and on what? That will give us the people a chance to weed out the reps' who only have their own special interest in mind, ultimately resulting in some saved tax dollars or allow them to be diverted to more worthwhile projects.- brad3378, on 03/01/2008, -0/+6http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/
This is a good source for up-to-date population data for the USA as well as the current National Debt.
By the way, even as a self described Hard-core Ron Paul supporter, I agree 100% with Obama's policy on transparency in government spending.
At least it is a start.- maikai, on 06/06/2008, -0/+2http://obama.senate.gov/press/071213-coburn_and_ob ...

- jonfleck88, on 04/14/2008, -2/+10I think eliminating taxes on seniors is a good idea to help them save some money for a day when they can no longer continue to work. But I think Obama contradicts himself here. He wants to double capital gains tax which will greatly hurt seniors (and youth) by taking 28% of their hard saved and invested money. His plans for taxes seem to be inline with with other liberals, take from the "rich" (by increasing capital gains tax, which mistakenly affects everybody, not just the rich CEOs of America) and give to the "poor" (in the form of ridding lower incomes of taxes and supporting them with health care and other such things). Don't get me wrong I don't hate the poor I just believe that everybody should be taxed equally and given to equally. Just because a individual works hard to make more money doesn't mean they should fund the government.
- PolishLogic, on 06/05/2008, -1/+3*slow clap*
Nice. - kopf1988, on 06/05/2008, -3/+2Capital gains typically applies most to people getting way too much money at once. Slowly built up savings it doesn't apply, but it does if say your stock doubles in value.

- u2wedge, on 02/21/2008, -10/+10they've actually paid more than you during their lifetime; now it's your turn.
- hippieslaugh, on 02/21/2008, -5/+11I think it's pretty sick that young people can whine about giving the elderly a tax break. My parents struggled every day of their lives, and i think they deserve a tax break, and when you and I are old, i hope the country cares enough to return the favor, and respect and honor us.
Let me ask you a question... how many medications are you on? How many surgeries have you had/are you planning on having? Loose a hip recently?
Yeah. I didn't think so. I imagine when you hit 65, you'll feel a bit different about some issues. The term "investment in the future" comes to mind.- MacEnvy, on 02/21/2008, -1/+6Investment in the future generally refers to investing in young people, not old people who won't actually be here in the future. But I agree with your premise.
- hippieslaugh, on 02/21/2008, -2/+3I'm speaking about your future. What's wrong with making retirement possible for people who would have never had a chance otherwise?
- brad3378, on 03/01/2008, -2/+4what's wrong with taxing everybody EQUALLY?
- Hortnon, on 04/15/2008, -1/+4Do you mean number of dollars or percentage?
Either way, I have arguments against. It basically boils down to,
Because everyone doesn't earn equally.

- brad3378, on 03/01/2008, -3/+3Compare our student loans with with that of an Average baby boomer.
Compare our average income levels with those of an Average baby boomer.
Compare how many more years we'll be paying down their share our our $30,650 per citizen national debt?
Get a clue - once they retire, they're done. No more federal income tax. It's left to my generation to clean up their ***** mess.
The same thing goes for this war. A bunch of old retired Republicans are going to vote for John McCain to continue this war so they can save 50 cents on their gas. Best of all, they won't even have to pay a ***** dime because the war will be financed by the young.
Jesus ***** Christ.
Am I asking for Grandma to pick up the entire burden? Of course not.
I'll still pay for her social security even if there's nothing left for myself by the time I retire. ***** happens.
78 Million baby boomers are getting ready to retire. That's 25% of our population. Of course it is a problem.
But you're out of your ***** mind if you think we should pick up their share of the burden besides our own!
Judging by only 51 diggs after 22 days of an article about Obama's OFFICIAL platform, I'm convinced that my generation deserves the punishment that it has coming. We're a bunch of God damn sheep that care more about him quitting his smoking habit (http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/Obama_Says_He_s_ ... 1329 diggs since yesterday) than we care about stuff that matters.- kaeryn, on 04/17/2008, -3/+1You poor put upon little boy. YOUR generation is the DUH generation. As in DUH who won the election I forgot to vote.
As for your (not yours in specific) parents, those are the worst of all, pathetic sheep that vote against their own self interest. People who have children they can't afford to FEED and don't care about educating. They raised consumers who live their whole lives in debt.
.

- BigMrWiggly, on 04/17/2008, -3/+1Old people don't deserve a tax break because they were stupid when they were young and didn't save for retirement. I shouldn't have to suffer and subsidize them because they were dumb and didn't save. They're just going to have to keep on working.
- Obamillusion, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2It's not that elderly people shouldn't get a tax break... It's that everyone should get a tax break. By the constitution, we shouldn't even have a federal income tax. Perhaps the elderly would have been wise to save money, rather than depend on the gov to bail them out?
- MacEnvy, on 02/21/2008, -1/+6Investment in the future generally refers to investing in young people, not old people who won't actually be here in the future. But I agree with your premise.

- Gemfinder, on 09/14/2008, -0/+1Agree, particularly since one of the biggest arguments the other side throws at us is that Obama is an empty suit with no issue stances. This document blows the roof, the doors and the socks off that argument.
- webergolf, on 04/17/2008, -0/+3No, according to ABC, we the people only care about whether or not a candidate wears a lapel pin, that they never ever get their words mixed up, and why they don't get scared and run away from anyone that did a bad thing in their past.......

- MommaKatz, on 04/19/2008, -2/+2Actually kaeryn, you are so incorrect it isn't funny. Edwards and Obama beat every other candidate in terms of who's platforms were published first. In some instances Edwards came out slight before Obama and vice versa. HRC consistently released her platforms after both of them, and often in stages. Republican candidates came far later, and on many issues have yet to release a platform on specific issues. I.E. McCain only just unveiled his economic platform, and the math isn't even correct in it!!
