- TheEngineer2008, on 10/30/2009, -0/+4Big government social conservatives pushed the legislation. They weren't the ONLY ones pushing it (see Jim Leach and Dianne Feinstein), but they were the ones who pushed the GOP to support this legislation.

Goldwater was the last hope libertarians had and, in case you haven't heard, has been dead for some time
best chance the libertarians have is the emergence of one among the democrats - jonathan95060, on 10/30/2009, -0/+2It is sad what the republican party has become -- beholden to Christian fundamentalists who want to turn america into a theocracy. Who, if anyone, are the republican representatives who still hew to a truly conservative philosophy?
- 1andyman, on 10/30/2009, -1/+1You said "the big government social conservative wing of the party even called for a plank in the party platform advocating federal internet censorship to stop adults from playing online poker."
Glad that plank didn't make the platform! Censorship applies to speech, not playing poker, so that plank would be silly.
