You people are unbelievable! Ok, have a look at this http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thum ...
It is called a "the Globe" or "the Earth"
See the United States? see how it is NOT the entire Earth? actually is is just a fraction of the globe. This is very important to understand, because
2006 was the third hottest year globally, 1921 was the third hottest in the US (which is not the whole Earth)
1998 was the hottest year globally, 1934 was the hottest in the US (which is not the whole Earth)
See why it was important to understand that the US is not the whole Earth?
You didn't "hear a peep from CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, the Weather Channel or the granddaddy of News Monopolies, the Associated Press." because it was a total non-story.
The adjustments that had to be made to the science were trivial and changed absolutely nothing. No one thought to publish a warning "hey, in case you happen to think the US is the entire planet, you better understand this is total non-story." Maybe they should do that next time.
1934 was a short term local variation caused by an intense El Nino, but it is very interesting if you want some idea of what climate change will actually look like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dust_bowl
In fact it is already happening http://digg.com/environment/Drought_makes_Oklahoma ...

National Center for Policy Analysis (source for headline info), A right wing conservative group created, headed and run out of Dallas TX of by and for the Oil Industry. Those officers and contributors that aren't blatantly listed as oil companies, such as Crow Holdings, are easy to track down. Harlan Crow, dedicated contributor to KPAC, contributor to Dole, barrasso, pat roberts, cornyn and mccain, all Republicans that vote with oil interests in mind. $29,600 has been contributed to mccains campaign by employees who ID their employer as lattimore properties inc, who's president is on the board of ncpa... Another board member is also the chairman of this company: Clark Consulting is one of the largest COLI providers in America. The term COLI typically refers to the purchase by a corporation of life insurance policies on a select group of employees in whom the corporation has an insurable interest. In general, the corporation pays the insurance premiums, owns the cash value of each policy, and is the beneficiary of the COLI policies.
Ain't that nice to know.

I'm still reading these articles because critically examining evidence in an attempt to disprove the idea is the scientific method, this does not stand up to critical examination. I will keep reading them though. - Rodalli, on 07/07/2008, -10/+51Digg this man up for injecting some sense into this story. People need to do some simple critical thinking and start checking to see if their sources are biased.
Just as I take everything I read from Huffington Post with a grain of salt, so too should you be wary of anything you read on a site called nosocialism.com. - inactive, on 07/07/2008, -28/+61Perhaps now they'll stop wasting food on ethanol while people starve but I doubt it.
- deuxbits, on 07/08/2008, -6/+37The article is typical misleading and inaccurate blather from a denier. There are a ton of reasons why this is inaccurate, many mentioned already
- Nosocialism, on 07/07/2008, -64/+93I'm waiting for all the retractions from ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, the Weather Channel, the UK Enquirer, so on and so forth

Look, get a grip and think for a second
The same scientists who are telling you about anthropogenic climate change are the ones who told you about historical climate change. You would not know about historical climate change if they had not told you.
1) They know about it, it is part of the science. They know far more about it than you or I and they are the ones saying that this is NOT part of the same patterns
If they are competent then you should accept what they have to say about anthropogenic climate change, and if they are not competent then that historical climate variation stuff is nonsense too.
You can't decide they are Gods of competence when it suits you, and corrupt incompetent fools when it doesn't.
2) Of course there has been climatic variation throughout the Earth's history. I know, the climate scientists know, it's very simple basic stuff. It's taught in bloody grade 4 for crying out loud, stop pretending it's some freaking great revelation.
There has always been variation, and all climate events have causes. Orbital variations, sun cycles, volcanoes ... there is always causes.
No one is saying those things have stopped happening. Of course they are happening. How in God's name would anthropogenic climate change stop all other climatic factors?
Those variations are still happening, and anthropogenic climate change is happening as well. It is _on top of_ not instead of. No one ever claimed different, so your protestations are absurd.
So what do climate change proponents expect? Normal climatic variation with hot and cold periods and local variation in time and space, but over time a steadily increasing mean global temperature.
What do we see when we check the data? "Normal climatic variation with hot and cold periods and local variation in time and space, but over time a steadily increasing mean global "
Are we shocked? surprised? disappointed?
It is EXACTLY what the models predicted, and if you had ever looked at them you would know that. - MrTito, on 07/09/2008, -4/+22Buried - Inaccurate blogspam.

"Data Flaw
Finally, we note that a minor data processing error found in the GISS temperature analysis in early 2007 does not affect the present analysis. The data processing flaw was failure to apply NOAA adjustments to United States Historical Climatology Network stations in 2000-2006, as the records for those years were taken from a different data base (Global Historical Climatology Network). This flaw affected only 1.6% of the Earth's surface (contiguous 48 states) and only the several years in the 21st century. As shown in Figure 4 and discussed elsewhere, the effect of this flaw was immeasurable globally (~0.003°C) and small even in its limited area. Contrary to reports in certain portions of the media, the data processing flaw did not alter the ordering of the warmest years on record. Obviously the global ranks were unaffected. In the contiguous 48 states the statistical tie among 1934, 1998 and 2005 as the warmest year(s) was unchanged. In the current analysis, in the flawed analysis, and in the published GISS analysis (Hansen et al. 2001), 1934 is the warmest year in the contiguous states (not globally) but by an amount (magnitude of the order of 0.01°C) that is an order of magnitude smaller than the uncertainty. "
Short version. YES there was a math error. NO this error does not alter the observed pattern of global warming. 2005 is still in a tie with 1934 and 1998 for hottest year in the US on record. - SOS84, on 07/09/2008, -6/+23Too bad this article is completely false and that NASA never made these claims as presented. Though I do think they should change the name from Global Warming to Global Weather Disruptions (or something easier on the tongue) - greenfyre, on 07/08/2008, -5/+19Try using google before you humiliate yourself any more.
The greenhouse effect was discovered by Joseph Fourier in 1824 and was first investigated quantitatively by Svante Arrhenius in 1896. The science was sufficiently understood by the 1950s to produce this newsreel http://youtube.com/watch?v=0lgzz-L7GFg
i) Read my comment above about natural variation
ii) Shout louder, reality can't hear you
iii) as I said above, if you had ever actually looked at the models you would realize that this variation is exactly what they predict. In effect all you are doing is screaming "the models are right, the models are right"
Look at them for God's sake - the irrelevance of your points is staggering.

January 15, 2008
The average temperature for the contiguous U.S. in 2007 is officially the tenth warmest on record, according to data from scientists at NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, N.C. The agency also determined the global surface temperature last year was the fifth warmest on record. - greenfyre, on 07/08/2008, -5/+17Science is not responsible for the media taking the work of a handful of workers and running with it http://gristmill.grist.org/story/2006/11/23/18534/ ... http://environment.newscientist.com/channel/earth/ ...

Reflecting the long-term warming trend in the Earth's climate, U.S. and global annual temperatures are now approximately 1.0°F warmer than at the start of the 20th century, and the rate of warming has accelerated over the past 30 years, increasing globally since the mid-1970's at a rate approximately three times faster than the entury-scale trend. Look, even if you do believe that global warming isn't real - what's wrong with trying to have less impact on the environment? You right-wing nutjobs won't be happy until we've drilled and destroyed every square inch of this planet and for what? A few more years of using a limited resource that we really should be phasing out anyways. Pull your head out of the sand and read the real facts NoSocialism. And pull your head out of W's ass while you're at it. - xBDVx, on 07/09/2008, -3/+13Um...two things bother me about this.
A) You just posted a link to your own website, nosocialism (not that there's anything wrong with that)
B) You link a source that comes from the National Center for Policy Analysis (and not actually from NASA themselves)...for more info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_center_for_p ...
Now, if NASA had really said this, and since they have to give away their findings to anyone for free, you'd think that you could just link the NASA article.
Anyway, annonimality nicely gave us a link to the real article, but that doesn't matter because on your own site, it clearly shows that there are two graphs. One describes the GLOBAL temperature, which has been rising since the 1800s and one shows the US temperature, which has been going up and down. Both of these graphs are in the NASA report (and they happily point out that the continental United States only accounts for "1.6% of the Earth's surface"). The global graph is the one that matters, and NASA still firmly believes that the data is precise and accurate.
