You guys understand that Obama isn't the second-coming right? It seems more than a few Diggers here do.. - uncajoe, on 11/23/2008, -63/+244They don't know much 'bout the economy,
They knew too much 'bout the WMD's,
The don't give a ***** 'bout you 'n' me,
Time to get rid of Bush/Cheney!
What a wonderful world it could be! - MediaWeasel, on 11/23/2008, -35/+185The prospect of Bush and Cheney leaving now would be fabulous but I wouldn't want to put pressure on Obama before he's got everything in place and ready to hit the ground running on Day 1. But since he's appointedmost of his people ... heck yeah! *waves madly*
Here is a joke doing the rounds over here:
One sunny day in February 2009 an old man approached the White House from across Pennsylvania Avenue, where he'd been sitting on a park bench. He spoke to the U.S. Marine standing guard and said, 'I would like to go in and meet with President Bush.'
The Marine looked at the man and said, 'Sir, Mr. Bush is no longer president and no longer resides here.'
The old man said, 'Okay', and walked away.
The following day, the same man approached the White House and said to the same Marine, 'I would like to go in and meet with President Bush.'
The Marine again told the man, 'Sir, as I said yesterday, Mr. Bush is no longer president and no longer resides here.'
The man thanked him and, again, just walked away.
The third day, the same man approached the White House and spoke to the very same U.S. Marine, saying 'I would like to go in and meet with President Bush.'
The Marine, understandably agitated at this point, looked at the man and said, 'Sir, this is the third day in a row you have been here asking to speak to Mr. Bush. I've told you already that Mr. Bush is no longer the president and no longer resides here. Don't you understand?'
The old man looked at the Marine and said, 'Oh, I know he's not the President any more. I just love being reminded of it.'
The Marine snapped to attention, saluted, and said, 'See you tomorrow, Sir.'
:-) - whataboutdave, on 11/23/2008, -8/+154This is bar none the silliest thing that I have read in recent memory.
The transfer between administrations is such a vastly complex thing that the Obama team is rushing to even make the Jan 20th deadline. Making a switch now would be counterproductive and dangerous. To do so without a constitutionally necessary set of circumstances is frankly moronic.
We've lived with Bush for eight years. What's another month? - inactive, on 11/23/2008, -11/+130Isn't this the same newspaper, like most in America, who were rallying behind Bush and our government in the months following 9/11? Why wasn't media asking the tough questions? They weren't holding government accountable, that's for sure.
For fun, just take a quick look at the headlines in their archives for the weeks and months after 9/11. Sensationalist much? LOL
Self-righteous *****. - TheGreatBelow, on 11/23/2008, -4/+91Pointless article.
- JenniferInMO, on 11/23/2008, -31/+110Tell me when I can put my hand down. I'm scared to put it down for fear of not being counted in.
- doti, on 11/23/2008, -11/+87LOL. I stopped reading after it said Pelosi would be named president. I'm a lifelong democrat, and pretty liberal guy, but no way on earth this happens.
- mnocket, on 11/23/2008, -16/+81Great plan by the NYT.... make Pelosi president till Jan. Just what I always wanted - a new president for 2 months in the midst of a crisis, serving as a puppet for a less experienced president-elect who hasn't even formed his cabinet yet. With thinking like this it's amazing that the NYT is successful - oh, yeah, their not! They're reducing their dividend by 74%. It's amazing how stupid intellectuals can be.
- novenator, on 11/23/2008, -30/+95Bush and neocons can still do a LOT of damage in their remaining 60 days. Look out for military incursions or strikes into Syria, possibly even a strike on Iran. They are going to try to rob the coffers and pad the pockets of loyalists anyway they can. Finally, beware the mass pardons that will make sure the guilty will never be punished for their crimes (domestic espionage, violating the geneva convention, the treasonous revealing of the undercover CIA agent Valeria Plame, etc. etc.).
- Anomaly100, on 11/23/2008, -38/+101"If Bush gives up doing nothing by giving up his job, it’s possible that someday history might elevate him to the ranks of the below average" -- I loved that line!
It won't happen, because it would be right, so why should Bush do something like that now? But we can dream can't we?
Oh yeah, my hand is up, most definitely! - allowners, on 11/23/2008, -26/+86Just to be safe, Pelosi should resign right after Bush. We certainly are not crazy, Impeach today.
- Frozo, on 11/23/2008, -1/+60Talk about beating a dead horse... Let the system work the way it was designed to. There will be change soon enough.
- inactive, on 11/23/2008, -5/+59First of all, Pelosi as president? God help us all.
Second of all, why would you want a "puppet president" in office, even for all of 2 months? That completely desecrates the prestige and respect of the position of President of the United States of America. Not to mention that it would be a feminist's worst nightmare (woman in highly powerful role still subservient to a man), possibly alienating them from the democratic party. - Bolin100, on 11/23/2008, -2/+54I understand the old man's thinking completely!
- ThsGuyRightHere, on 11/23/2008, -3/+53I understand the sentiment but it's silly. If Bush and Cheney resigned then the line of succession would go to Pelosi. It would take an amendment to the constitution to change the lame duck period.
- Oatlord, on 11/23/2008, -2/+49I stopped reading at "Then House Speaker Nancy Pelosi would become president until Jan. 20."
- dieboldcracy, on 11/23/2008, -16/+53like anything is gonna change with Obama
- akchrs, on 11/23/2008, -11/+48"Can I see a show of hands? How many people want George W. Bush out and Barack Obama in right now?"
What about the do absolutely nothing congress run by the democrats? They've been in for 2 years and have done nothing. - thenekkidtruth, on 11/23/2008, -2/+38lol good one !
- inactive, on 11/23/2008, -3/+35I've seen that joke several times, but you know what? I still read it all the way through, and it still brings a tear to my eye
so to that joke, a salute! see you again soon i hope!! - JenniferInMO, on 11/23/2008, -2/+34I love it!
- statismisdead, on 11/23/2008, -4/+33"Time to get rid of Bush/Cheney!"
But the millions of Americans who voted for Bush/Cheney twice will still remain. - inactive, on 11/23/2008, -2/+31Holy crap man, you're still here? I thought you would've gotten the hell out of the country by now what with that dirty Muslim, terrorist, socialist soon taking office. Quick, you still have time! Pack your things! Hurry, before it's too late and you're sent to a "re-education" camp!
- inactive, on 11/23/2008, -24/+52Resign? Ok, I'm in, but I was hoping for impeachment.
- Naieve, on 11/23/2008, -6/+34Mass pardons?
Like Clinton? - MercyPolitics, on 11/23/2008, -43/+71I would go for that. Somebody at the Grey Lady is growing back a spine.
- SOULaziouz, on 11/23/2008, -2/+26I don't get it. I don't get how two months less of the current administration is going to help ANYTHING. Just let the man finish out the rest of his presidency...allow the President-Elect to get his cabinet together, and on January 20th, 2009, Obama will take the reins.
I certainly identify myself as liberal and an Obama supporter, but this fanboyism is ridiculous. I'd expect it on someone's personal blog, but the NYT? This is part of why the nation is SO polar. - inactive, on 11/23/2008, -10/+34you had me until the asinine suggestion that we treat Pelosi as anything other than capitulating *****. I'd like to see Obama report for work Monday morning (Biden, you can show up when you've finished shoving the Drug War and your RIAA-backed treason all the way up your ass), but Pelosi? No ***** way.
- inactive, on 11/23/2008, -3/+27My thoughts exactly - my God, how quickly people seem to forget that he was elected, and that the real problem isn't him, it's the millions of people that voted for him.
- inactive, on 11/23/2008, -4/+27Every time I hear the phrase "liberal media" I'm left thinking "What liberal media? The liberal media that bent over backwards in terms of not holding the government accountable for anything?"
- 919kwjc, on 11/23/2008, -28/+51You liberals really are a sorry bunch. You've spent 8 years tearing down W for everything in the world, whether is was his screw up or not. We're less than 60 days out until the most liberal president in history and we'll all see how 'great' your plans are. Until then, find some class.
- cnot3, on 11/23/2008, -4/+26Lots will change! Instead of bailing out banks, we'll be bailing out the auto industry, and then everyone else until the dollar is absolutely worthless.
- georgemason01, on 11/24/2008, -5/+26CHANGE!
Just keep saying it over and over until it replaces rational thought with mindless hope. - MercyPolitics, on 11/23/2008, -11/+32No, George W. Bush is dragging us to bankruptcy. Are you part of the Ann Coulter's branch of the GOP?
- barfooz, on 11/23/2008, -2/+23That's the law. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_preside ...
Of course Bush and Cheney would never resign, so it's a moot point. - inactive, on 11/23/2008, -2/+22Funny how liberals only complain about presidents violate the constitution when the president does something they disagree with.
Inaugurating Obama early would be just as unconstitutional as the Patriot Act. He's not even in the line of succession.
Hell, Obama hasn't even been elected yet. Only his electors have been elected. - inactive, on 11/23/2008, -0/+19Hell, I'd be saying the same thing right about now if McCain had won. It's not about Obama, it's about the fact that no one really seems to be at the wheel at the moment.
- joand315, on 11/23/2008, -7/+25@Me006
You left out "moonbat". You usually say "moonbat" dopey liberal leftists. - Anomaly100, on 11/23/2008, -12/+30And, you are reading it because??
- CoreyTamas, on 11/23/2008, -2/+19You guys aren't gonna like this very much, but...
In 2004 the majority of Americans - knowing full well who GW Bush is - decided they wanted to have him serve a full term as US president. The ones who didn't elect him don't get to decide that he should be gone early. Not by a year. Not by a week. Not by an hour. Democracy doesn't work like that.
Sorry to rub your fur backwards. I don't like him, either... but that doesn't mean we get to change the rules. - Hetman, on 11/23/2008, -3/+19He has not even pardoned anyone yet. The best thing about leaving office for a president is you get to pardon people. If I was president just to mess with people's heads I would pardon like 5 non-violent random people that the public didnt know about for no reason.
- inactive, on 11/23/2008, -8/+23This is the dumbest article ever.
If Obama couldn't change anything as a senator, only a fool would believe he can change anything as POTUS.
And what is so bad about America that we need to change. We may need to fix soem holes nd patch a few things, but America is he greatest country this world has ever seen and why woudl anyone wish to CHANGE THAT. - Kolbeck10, on 11/23/2008, -3/+18Shhhhhhhh
- radfahren, on 11/24/2008, -1/+16the great republican state of Alaska, with democratic senator-elect Mark Begich.
- brokencode, on 11/23/2008, -3/+17Obama is going to steal the Hope diamond!
- inactive, on 11/24/2008, -1/+15Thank you for being the voice of reason. That op-ed makes me laugh, I can't believe the Times even wasted the ink/pixels.

- ihavenoposse, on 11/23/2008, -1/+14That'd be an interesting idea, once Obama is elected president. That won't happen until December 15th.
