- profgiles, on 11/12/2009, -12/+79Bush never once visited Section 60 of Arlington National Cemetery - where Iraqi veterans are buried. There's your change.
- diggforlabor, on 11/12/2009, -3/+47It was great for the President to say "just because you're a journalist doesn't mean you can't honor your friends here."
- Insightful, on 11/12/2009, -7/+51Very moving encounter and memory of the fallen. Dugg.
- awinters, on 11/13/2009, -1/+43I've been to Arlington Cemetery and there is something that comes over you every time you are in that place that makes this article reach home.
It doesn't matter if what your political party is. These men and women DIED so that we can have those opinions and views and the pettiness of partisanship in this place is sinful It touches you just as it did this writer and the President. - inactive, on 11/12/2009, -10/+42Thank you for that - I got another little fact for my George Bush Jr. *****.
- relaxeder, on 11/13/2009, -4/+28Yeah, its always for some nefarious and overly simplistic reason. I'm sure he never thought it just might be a decent thing to do on Veterans Day or anything like that.
- diggan8, on 11/13/2009, -3/+26I like the idea that the president is in touch with the consequences of his actions... especially the actions of previous presidents.
- ironhide, on 11/13/2009, -5/+28Screw off you hack.
- boo1, on 11/13/2009, -3/+24Maybe.....but then again that's not the point is it.
- ironhide, on 11/13/2009, -3/+24Because right-wingers have never accused Obama of doing similar things for a photo-op.
You really ought to work on that beam in your eye before complaining about the mote in someone else's.
Edit - didn't see DavidNiven doing to Obama exactly what you said "liberals" would do to Bush. - ironhide, on 11/13/2009, -5/+25So if he didn't do this, you'd accuse him of not honoring the military....right?
- FutureGuy, on 11/13/2009, -4/+23Those whose loved ones rest at the cemetery didn't seem to think so, that’s all that matters. You seem quite delusional.
- jrm125, on 11/13/2009, -3/+20But we'll never know, will we?
It's tons of things just like this that give people the hate for him he's acquired. Well...the little things, and that whole war without provocation thing. - ironhide, on 11/13/2009, -3/+19I love it when a story gets all the right-wing bedwetters all riled up. It makes my day.
- MaxxusFlamus, on 11/13/2009, -4/+19umm...he hasn't made the order to send them yet BECAUSE he hasn't been given a clear strategy for stabilization and exit.
- Crimeodial, on 11/13/2009, -4/+18***** off.
- jrobbi, on 11/13/2009, -5/+18You must be great at parties.
- DiomedesTydeus, on 11/13/2009, -0/+13@ajkrik Why Veteran's day? Seriously? Because the day is dedicated to honoring Veterans, that's why he honored Veterans on Veteran's day. What next "Why'd he put up a Christmas tree on Christmas? Just a photo op, most likely."
- lantza, on 11/13/2009, -2/+14You're a ***** dick foucault. Have some respect for the people who have given their lives so you can sit in a computer chair and shout down the president from your basement.
- smashTasker, on 11/13/2009, -5/+16It is uneducated hacks like you that are America's true domestic enemy.
- DiomedesTydeus, on 11/13/2009, -1/+11From the article:
I'm sure the cynics will assume this was just another Obama photoop.
If they'd been standing in my boots looking him in the eye, they would have surely choked on their bile. - pilot3033, on 11/13/2009, -1/+11last time i looked, being in the military was not a prerequisite for presidency. and i prefer it that way.
- jsmith39, on 11/13/2009, -6/+15Absolutely... how dare the Commander and Chief of our military be mentioned in the same sentence as a real soldier.
***** idiot... you spend a lot of time reading old Vietnam books and day dreaming about the day you personally save America for true Americans with your knock-off M-16 don't you? - jsmith39, on 11/13/2009, -1/+10No, they joined for love of country, they died for their friends. They may or may not have been sent to their deaths by corrupt politicians and corporate interests but that was not why they were there.
You dishonor a great many men and women who were much better people than you could ever hope to be with your adolescent vitriol. - lantza, on 11/13/2009, -4/+13Very touching story. Its a lot harder to send 40,000 more soldiers into battle when you've seen the tragic fate that many of them have already met.
Support the troops, bring them home. - nigelsan, on 11/13/2009, -2/+11FTA: "I'm sure the cynics will assume this wasjust anotherObama photoop"
did you even read the article before you commented? - FredFredrickson, on 11/13/2009, -4/+12If you haven't noticed any difference in 10 months, you haven't been looking.
- jrobbi, on 11/13/2009, -1/+9The only one who thinks people voted for him because he's some sort of missiah is you.
- kartman2001, on 11/13/2009, -0/+7Why don't people leave the politics out of this. He went to the graves of the fallen on the day we remember our veterans. Let him be, not everything is a photo-op.
- nathanbutnet, on 11/13/2009, -3/+10Thank you Mr. President for showing your respect to our military and military families in this way.
- Pimptastic, on 11/13/2009, -5/+12This is the Man I remember running for Senator. The one that spoke in front of small class rooms on campus's, who gave an arm to help a WWII vet up a step after a ceremony. And the same Man I remember when he ran for president and visited in support of the shootings at Northern Illinois. He could have taken it as a campaign trip, but instead used it to show he cared about us students.
He doesnt have the Clinton style 'I feel you pain' attitude, Obama seems to have that genuine humble respect for people. I may not agree with many of his policies, but this is the man I voted to be my Senator. - capstinence, on 11/13/2009, -3/+9Stay classy, President Obama :)
- 4321234, on 11/13/2009, -1/+7They sure as hell didn't enlist for that. They may have been sent to Iraq because the decision was made to invade Iraq in some oil company boardroom, but they sure as hell didn't enlist to die for that.
- Vaiper, on 11/13/2009, -0/+5ZING
- CorbinM1226, on 11/13/2009, -0/+5They died for their own reasons unknown to us. They signed up for these reasons knowing that they could very well die for these reasons. We have no place to decide what they died for. Don't disrespect these brave soldiers.
- lantza, on 11/13/2009, -0/+5Whoops, I read it as "choked on their bible". Either way works I suppose.
- santiago1, on 11/13/2009, -0/+5 The feeling is even more amplified if you've served.
- CrimsonJones, on 11/13/2009, -3/+8@Nodaki
Jerr is using the memory of dead veterans to push his retarded neocon agenda. He is ***** up, and so are you. - Laminarcissus, on 11/13/2009, -3/+8"At least that's what I'm guessing from here in my basement."
- woodsjransom, on 11/13/2009, -0/+5And to think they have not waited until 4 am in the morning to snatch you out of your bed and have you arrested. Why is that?
- homercles337, on 11/13/2009, -4/+9It is most definitely a change to have a caring, thoughtful, and most importantly, intelligent man in the white house.
- ironhide, on 11/13/2009, -4/+9I'm sorry Nodaki - feeling left out? You can go screw off too.
- Pimptastic, on 11/13/2009, -0/+4The problem is that every minute of the Presidents life is now a photo op.
- enantiodromia, on 11/13/2009, -0/+4dsoura's Agenda Nov.11/2009
10:00 am - still sleeping
1:00 pm - pick toenails, wonder why life has been so unfair
7:00 pm - (open)
11:30 pm - another day, down the drain - beerhound, on 11/13/2009, -0/+3ajkrik
"Why Veterans Day?" Maybe because it is a tradition for presidents to visit Arlington to honor the dead on both Veterans Day and Memorial Day. I served on active duty from Reagan's first term through GWB's first term and every single one of them visited Arlington National Cemetery. It is actually one of the unofficial duties of the president. Google Memorial Day or Veterans Day and presidential speech. - jsmith39, on 11/13/2009, -3/+6I see Nodaki is out trolling again. You can do better Noddy, even you can tell the difference between besmirching a politician and calling the President of the US 'the most prominent domestic enemy'. I mean you can tell the difference right? We're not talking pretty boys in mini skirts like that night you spent in Thailand, this is pretty is obvious stuff.
- beerhound, on 11/13/2009, -0/+3Don't confuse the motives of our elected "leaders" (of any party) with the commitment of those buried in Arlington. Just because the politicians are misguided or dishonest about their reasons for sending troops, doesn't mean that the troops themselves shared that cynical view. You don't get buried in Arlington National Cemetery because you earned a gold star for perfect attendance. Those men took an oath and lived up to it with their lives, those buried in Arlington most certainly are "Honored Dead" even if you don't like the reasons our national leaders sent them into harms way for.
- taibo, on 11/13/2009, -1/+4I don't like a lot of the stuff he's doing, but Obama sure has my respect if nothing else.
- beerhound, on 11/13/2009, -2/+5EvilJelloMan (great name btw) like you, I'm no fan of Bush, but here are a few links from about 30 seconds worth of google searching. Pro/Anti Bush/Obama, doesn't matter to me, but I really wish the partisan ***** would stop. I'm more interested in accuracy than idoltry or hatred. Fact checking that claim for BS doesn't pass the smell test.

http://georgewbush-whitehouse.archives.gov/news/re ... - Nodaki, on 11/13/2009, -0/+3ironhide is not ignorant. He is a firm believer and his ideology is that of the administration. He is not ignorant of their goals and their goals are his goals.
