- rocket777, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4The documentary talks about how the government created HMO' s and then instead of recognizing who created the problem and calling for a repeal of the HMO act, he instead calls for more of the same corrupt government that caused the problem.
James, I don't know where to even begin. Firstly, that government that funnels the money, funnels it to whoever buys the most congressional funnels. It also uses money to fund the FDA which does not testing, no research, but simply is a paper mill of forms and regulations that cause prices to be high.
Next, the government is not we, or us. It was, perhaps for the first decade of the republic, but it quickly became an aristocracy that is the political classes.
History would show that we CANNOT elect efficient, competent people to office. The dems/reps have created laws to keep everyone else out. Just try to get on the ballot if you think we have any choices. The choices are made for us. We will get 2 choices, each a person that has proven loyalty to their party, not the constitution. These 2 choices will be given 60 million of OUR money, while any other parties, get none, and have to jump through hoops to prove their money was not received illegally.
Did sicko interview any Canadians that had to wait years for an MRI exam? Why are they all coming to the US to save their lives.
If you think GM paying $3000 per car for health insurance, just wait until Hillary get's her plan in operation. I read the draft of her program in the 90's and it would make it illegal for any doctor to treat anyone on the side. When the government takes out their cut, to spend on wars of all kinds, there won't be enough left to pay for anything. Do you think there is a "lockbox" with any social security money in it? If so, I got a bridge to sell you.
Losing health insurance when quiting a job is crazy. The only reason our jobs pay for our health insurance is because during WWII there was a wage and price freeze set by the government which forced employers to give raises by providing insurance. It costs more to get insurance when the government doesn't subsidize it, so that's why people's jobs and health insurance are entwined, when they really have nothing to do with one another.
And lastly, nothing you said whatsoever mentioned where the "free" lunch and insurance was to come from. If you think paying 50% in taxes is fun, wait until you are paying that plus another 30-40 percent on everything you buy as well.
Ever wonder why gasoline costs 4 times as much in Europe? And the VAT tax is sneaky, since you can't even tell that it's there.
But then you must also believe the FED creates prosperity by printing up money. It's time people took the time to take care of themselves rather than the Government.

The FDA, USDA, and EPA do favors to companies that seek to destroy our health. The FDA is currently seeking to make it illegal to trade for natural medicine. Governments also fund many of the existing medical schools ensuring their health propaganda gets promoted. Most states have banned raw milk which is far superior to the nutrient deficient pasteurized milk. Given that he documented everything well, however, I do believe him to be very adept ad regurgitating phrases and points of view verbatim, but not able to generate his own. Moore is single-minded and socialist, without using or suggesting either in the films he makes, but uses the examples that would push the unthinking into agreeing with him. Just what Hillary would want. And just what Ron Paul needs to dispell by stating the facts about free-market alternatives where the govt is NOT involved.

I’ve noticed something when people rant about how they don't want government involved in some national health insurance. You always hear something like:
"I don't want THEM to do this..."
"I don't want THEM to be in charge of..."
"Look how THEY screwed up...."
All are referring to the government when they use the word "them". Get my drift? It's always they, them, those people.
The government is US. It is WE. It is OUR country, OUR society, OUR community.
If we have national healthcare, it would be US helping those who need care, not the government. If you get sick and can't work, WE will TAKE CARE of you, so relax and get treatment. WE will take care of the bills.
The government is just the mechanism that funnels money to pay for the doctors & hospital bills. It also acts as a STRONG negotiating power against the drug companies, representing 1 large pool of people...All Americans. If run well, this country would be amazing!!! So stop referring to the government as THEM.
Can we elect more competent people who won't get seduced by corporate greed? Sure. Can we see to it that the next Katrina response is MUCH better? Yes. Can we improve on the current government processes? Yes and we need too. It doesn't however mean that all government involvement is bad. The government is a small percentage of people that is supposed to serve the rest of us. Sadly, we elect people who have conflicts of interest with personal investments, tendencies toward greed, power trips, and pride.
When you watch Sicko, LISTEN CAREFULLY to what the Canadians, the French, and the English say. They don't say that the Government is taking care of them, they say "WE TAKE CARE OF EACH OTHER!!!!!" The key word being “we".
Let that marinate on your noggins for a while.
Did you know that GM pays $3,000 PER CAR they make for their employees healthcare. Imagine if they got to keep that and compete better, with healthcare provided by National Health Insurance. Think about how many small businesses lose out on hiring good employee candidates because they can't afford to provide basic health care benefits.
Think about the 60 year old man who worked hard his whole life, who is so sick he has to quit his job, and loses his insurance because of quitting. The wife has to work overtime, they drain their life savings, and they sell their house, and they move in with their kids. End the end they file bankruptcy, ALL BECAUSE OF THE BILLS!!!!!!!
