The reason why you are seeing so many Ron Paul stories on Digg is quite simple. A lot of us are sick and tired of the status quo in this country, myself included. Everything that is going on in Washington now is not designed to help you or me or our neighbors out; its designed keep the masses bickering between each other over class warfare issues while fattening the pockets of the career politicians and their buddies. Every vote now is bought and paid for with special interest money at the expense of the liberty of the American people. Not only that but most of the issues being voted on now are in direct violation of the powers the Legislative and Executive branches are given by the US Constitution.
The Constitution has become an afterthought to these people, even though the Article 2 Section 1 forces the President upon entering into office to swear he/she "...will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States."
Look at the Congressional Oath of Office From Article 4 Section 3:
"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter."
When was the last time you heard Congress debate bills not on the basis of morality, not on the basis of providing universal entitlement programs to the masses (which, according to our own Constitution, Congress has no power to do), not on the basis of helping one class over another, but on the simple principle of whether or not the Constitution grants them that power? When was the last time you heard the President justify vetoing a bill because he found it to be unconstitutional in nature? You don't. They know - as well as any educated follower of politics in DC - that almost 90% of the issues that get debated in Washington now are not designed to protect your liberty and mine; it's how can we keep the people ignorant of what we're doing by keeping divisive, partisan issues at the forefront while they rob our country blind.
The press core in Washington is just as bad as they are. They KNOW this stuff is going on; they KNOW that eventually someone (or a group of people) are going to have to pay for these initiatives; they KNOW that this will do nothing more than hurt our position as an independent and liberated society. They don't care because a lot of them are in on it as well. They're not going to bite the hands that feed them money in order to give them the exclusive, the inside track, that will help their already large corporate machine grow larger in influence. Everyone in Washington is in on the joke; it's the American public that has been left behind and forgotten about.
And if you don't think our polices will bring doom and disaster upon us in the future, think again. Already China holds well over 60% of our treasury bills or over 1 trillion dollars of our national debt. They continue to buy our bills right and left. The costs of goods and services continue to rise at an astonishing rate while - a lot in the double digits - while the increase in income for American families averages 1-2% a year. Government keeps growing at double digit rates while more and more of the American populace continues to lose out on the American Dream due to ill-conceived ideas like the AMT. Take this all into consideration...and then realize we haven't even begun to touch the issues of Medicare, Social Security, our unsupportable foreign policy of nation building/policing the world, and income tax system designed to promote class warfare........and you tell me if you aren't fed up.
And yet, all this could've been avoided relatively simply: had these Congressmen and the President adhered to the ideals our Founding Fathers put place in the Constitution we wouldn't be in the predicament we're in today. Had they followed the advice and let the local and state governments best serve the people for their local issues while the Federal Government did it's job in protecting the homeland with a strong defense while regulating the commerce between the states, we'd be doing damn fine I would assume.
Instead they have shat on and continue to shat on the very document a lot of great men risked everything - from their lands to their families to their lives - to give our country a set of guidelines to live by and observe. The bad thing most of the American public has allowed them to do that and continues to allow them to do that. Why should they care when they truly believe - from cradle to grave - that they have no voice in our government all the while waiting with their hands out for money from the government because they believe government will take care of them?
Well, the big newsflash is this generation of 30-somethings and 20-somethings are going to be the ones to have to swallow the expense of over 80 years of bad policies and programs. We are the first generation in American history where our quality of life is not increasing the way it did with our parents and grandparents. And the tip of the ***** storm has yet to come.
And yet, here is Ron Paul. This small congressional representative from Texas who votes based on the principles that our Founding Fathers saw when writing our Constitution. That big government is not only bad but a threat for personal liberty. That big government doesn't solve problems; it makes existing problems worse while creating new problems. That our monetary policy is a sham and a ticking nuclear bomb waiting to go off. That the United States can be a leader in the world for liberty and freedom through our implementation of these ideals; not through getting itself involved in trying to nation-build and police the world. That it's not up to the Federal Government to take care of people from cradle to grave; that personal responsibility is necessary in order to keep the ideals of liberty and freedom alive. That our best defense against terrorists and radical Islam is not only through a change in foreign policy but also a true defense of our national borders.
This is the kind of person the establishment hates because people like him - and me - believe in this ideal so passionately that we could potentially....gosh...get others to wake up, realize what is going on, and revolt (in the sense that the status quo can't hide behind smoke and mirrors anymore). You may not agree with every single ideal he has and I admit that I don't on some issues. However, it's people like him that give me a sliver of hope that the Clintons and the McCains and the Obamas and the Romneys of the world won't be able to run rough-shot over us anymore; that eventually we will take back our government and make truly goverment "of the People."
Just as I've been writing this, I made my first ever campaign contribution of a $100 bucks to Ron Paul. I'm 30, white male, family man, never donated to a campaign in my life. I've never felt the need to - until now - because I've never had someone to really believe in. My $100, while monetarily small, will hopefully help - even if it doesn't get Mr. Paul elected into office - help get his message out of a return to Constitutional principles that this country was founded upon...and wake up the populace to do something before my generation and the generation behind me and my son's generation is paying for the disasters caused by the previous generation(s).
So go ahead. Digg me down, call me an idealist; I really could care less. What I do care about is a change for this country for the better and this can be the starting point to returning back to what this government is suppose to do as envisioned by Jefferson, Washington, Madison, Adams, etc. - Iwantawii, on 10/12/2007, -4/+53By all means people be polite
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+43Here's the message I wrote to gina.stikes@msnbc.com :
===========================
Hello,
I am writing because I am very interested in the Presidential Elections so I go to MSNBC.com following the GOP debate May 3rd and I'm surprised that I find little-to-no information on Ron Paul - especially after he won the MSNBC Debate Poll and placed first. I don't understand why his name isn't mentioned and it's already been almost a week. Plus his profile ( http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17153378/) is incorrect and out of date; He's a 10th-term Congressman, Republican member of Congress and the only Rep. candidate to vote against the Iraq War. I would hope MSNBC would be unbiased and objective instead of what the evidence shows. Please give him the coverage he deserves by putting his profile, name, and news on your main page just like all the other candidates especially since he did win the MSNBC Debate Poll. All I'm asking is that you be fair to Ron Paul as you are to the rest of the candidates like Giuliani, Romney, McCain, etc. Thank you very much. Have a nice day.
===========================
I called her with this same message. - Nick22, on 10/12/2007, -10/+42Correction:
BREAKING: Ron Paul uses Ubuntu AJAX Kevin Rose! Next up, top 10 digg athiests!!!!! And 09F911029D74E35BD84156C563 [PICS] - iTorrey, on 10/12/2007, -5/+33This is not just about Ron Paul. This is about what is happening to our country. We have big media controlling the debate. They pick the candidates for us, they get up and have fake debates about fake issues and pretend to be different while the whole system sells us further into slavery! I can't believe that there was so much uproar about censoring the HD-DVD key and yet every day we are moving further and further into tyranny and everyone is content to sit and watch or pretend it's not happening.
This isn't a bandwagon, it's not a fad, this is people waking up to the tricks of the system and getting angry about it. We are tired of being lied to and controlled like sheep and we are actively trying to stop it. Don't think that this issue is just about Diggers voting on MSNBC. We are telling our family, our friends, our neighbors and random people we meet about this. People know that things are bad and have no hard time accepting that we are being controlled through the media by a fake Left vs. Right fight. When you point these facts out to people and then show them the hard evidence of the censorship and let them hear the candidate they take it in, digest it, realize what a horrible place this country has become and they start telling their friends.
Revolutions do happen. Political winds change. People can only be oppressed for so long before they finally stand up and take a stand. It's not going to be easy but no revolution ever is. The left and right are fighting and holding people back with their gatekeepers (Olbermann on the left and people like Neal Boortz on the right) but the people are finally waking up to the game.
How can we take Olbermann seriously as a voice against the corruption when he is just as guilty of discrediting and ignoring Dr. Paul as the rest of the bunch? And how can we take Neal Boortz seriously as he parades around calling himself a Libertarian but he doesn't support Ron Paul and mocks him at every chance? - synapz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+31Okay, lets be organized, at least... What is our message?

- skizzabadoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21I called when I saw then number also, however the call was answered by a switchboard, I asked for Gina Stikes and he directed me there no problem. In fact, I think I may have heard a sigh as if he has been getting a few of them...

Well at least you admit that you are a burying troll. - Cutkomp, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22So people shouldn't Digg articles that they like? Other candidates, with the exception of Gravel, just don't seem to be cutting it with Digg users. If they were, more articles about them would get to the top.

I live in my mother's attic; Too bad. - Mageant, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Here's the thing. This election is not really about Republicans vs. Democrats it's about establishment candidates vs. people candidates. It's about Hillary/Obama/Giuliani/McCain vs. Paul/Gravel/Kucinich. The mass media, government, the parties and the corporations are going to do everything they can - use every dirty trick - to promote the establishment candidates and suppress the people candidates. So if you want real change it's going to be up to YOU to do something about it. YOU will have to spread the word about your favorite people candidate. You cannot rely on "fairness" in the media.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+24Oops. I mistyped her last name. It's Stikes.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18I called as soon as I came across this digg. However, I was told there was no one there by that name. I asked for whomever would be in charge of the web site, and they said that they were closed, and couldn't help me. Anyone else with this sort of experience? I guess I will email.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14@feelgoodinc
Wrote you wrote was just purely inspirational. Thank you. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18Wow. Pleasant bunch of operators they have over there. I left a message.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15People please keep in mind that a tasteful, logically argued email would be much more effective than a nastygram. Put yourself in their position: what would be more frightening? A middleschooler flaming out his ass, or a paragraph or two written in taste about how you will no longer be watching MSNBC, and will be notifying all your friends that they are in opposition to the goals of our country?
--
How could they do this sort of thing? To use a bit of Bush's dangerous rhetoric against these folks...these guys are undermining democracy, and who would want to do that but terrorists?! By watching MSNBC, you support terrorism. - Bladeva, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Oh dear lawd, digg is trying to becoming a force to be reckoned with. Lets take on the world FTW!
- Xanadude, on 10/12/2007, -11/+23"dumb blonde"... again, the misogyny on Digg is rampant - unsurprising considering that the average Digger is a high school boy who has been repeatedly rejected by women.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+17Anyone dissing Ron Paul needs to see the debate and know what he stands for.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11GOOD. They damn will should be.
- kolanos, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16If the candidates weren't all essentially the same with maybe two exceptions (Paul and Gravel) then maybe we could afford to be more impartial. Unfortunately, outside of those two, the horses in this race are all owned by the same corporate backers.
- diffraction, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Imagine the publicity Digg would get if it single handily elected Ron Paul. :)
- Iwantawii, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13And Hilary was the new Bush
- Yez70, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Being impartial is what got America in the boat it's in now. People need to stand up and speak out. It's the only way to effect change other than an armed march on Washington. None of us wants it to come to that type of revolution.
We have let the media manipulate this country for far too long, to the pleasure of the special interests. It's no different than what they have done to our politicians. It's time to turn the tables and make the media work for us for a change.
If you don't like the idea, bury this story and leave the page. Otherwise, this is exactly what Digg is supposed to be for - the community. - skizzabadoo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11agreed, however you have to mention marijuana too to really get that front page status to last
- Visceral, on 10/12/2007, -18/+26BREAKING: RON PAUL UBUNTU 09F911029D74E35BD84156C563
OMG. DIGG ME. - healthydose, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9 Joaob: I like the quote. I just found out about a week ago that digg even existed. The potential is there to get the word out about Ron Paul. I made up some posters and put them in my car. I've been talking to my coworkers and neighbors about him too. Once they know what he stands for... they like him too....I mean what is there not to like?? This is obviously going to HAVE to be a grass roots movement. I can be done though. The naysayers just want to discourage us. But, like Joaob said, we can't just be old coots ... and college students get out and talk to the people that you meet. Today, while I was putting gas in the car, I talked to the guy on the other side of the pump. He was glad to know there was somebody like Ron Paul running....BUT today was the first time he had even HEARD of him. SOOOOO people get out and talk about Ron Paul.
- milo3600, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I hope that irony was intentional.
- WilliamDavis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8>I managed to get a hold of a dumb blonde
Why not give up the information without insulting the person who gave it to you? Maybe she's a supporter of Ron Paul and was doing you a favor.
In any case, why set the tone like that? If people are calling and being complete asses, they'll only try to limit your access to them further. - vajra918, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7@feelgoodinc
If I could submit a comment as an article I would, and yours would make the front page. It is refreshing to see somebody using his own mind to draw his own conclusions about the state of our Union.
I'll take your campaign contribution one further, I've just donated $50 to Ron Paul, and $50 to Mike Gravel. I'm a liberal Democrat, but just like you I'm tired of voting for the lesser of 2 evils. Should either of them win their primary they will have my vote, to hell with party lines. - thecoolestguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7very well said.
- thepuma77, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6wow! that's whack on a few different levels . (trying not to laugh) ^.^
- thrallie, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10@pilot3033:
The idea of making private companies in charge of government duties is because of a simple fact: they want to make money. If someone is against a service they will go to a competitor. You can't compete with government.
The US government has not one single program that has worked, except possibly the weather channel / system.
You really need to watch the videos on what he says. Also, he is very much against corporations. Corporations are an idea created by government, and he does not support corporations.
@mrassman
Again..another person who hasn't read or watched a video on Ron Pauls views. If we cut useless government programs we can save billions of dollars. There is a government program for making sure government employee's keep their desks clean. Not to mention the bigger ones such as welfare that do not work and are constantly abused.
Taxes is not the answer to it. If we raise taxes, then that gives more room for more programs and then more tax hikes. We already pay 52% out of our total income to the government. - rgautier, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6 Allow me to repeat myself, please: I posted this on ABC's comments
You see, the Intenernet is the medium of the people. For the longest time now, America has had to stand idly by and watch the opinions of newspaper, radio and television editors tell them what they think. From expose to publishing the American 'opinion-of-the-day', the voice of the authors were heard above the chatty din of pub talk and dinner table discussion. Politicians paid attention to the media because it was in their face. Now, the American people have found a new way to express their freedom of speech. It is the Internet that has given their voices the volume that they need to ensure they are heard. When MSNBC decided to ignore the actual poll results and post their own conclusions, we stood up and yelled 'Foul!' loud enough for you to hear us. By backing our opinion, and publishing this article, you have wielded a double-edge sword. You must decide that you will either add volume to our opinion or shut us off completely.
The real story about the 2008 elections is not which candidate will win, but that the candidate that wins may do so in spite of the best interests of the rich and powerful, and that America will stand up and demand some real change in this country despite the lies and deceit attempted by editors and publishers who have long thought they could control the masses. There is revolt brewing. The revolt will not be fought with guns and knives. No, the revolt will be fought with the weapon that the U.S. military complex itself invented to be able to withstand attack from conventional weaponry. The revolt will be fought with the Internet. And the armaments being loaded will be an armament that fought the revolution of 1776 against a tyrannical government. It will be fought with the voice of public opinion, unedited, and with the driving force of an uncontrollable mob that is the American populace. - polyGone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Oooohhhhh no not readers like you!!
There is this magic new navigation on the interweb. You see, there is a thing called a link. In order to get to different pages, you must click this link. The beauty of this system is you don't have to click the links of pages you don't want to go to.
We need change in our governmental system. Until that happens, you will see more stories about candidates and ideas that will make it happen. - NoStoppingUs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@mrass
actually, the treasury department is receiving a record amount of income tax receipts. it will NOT take a drastic measure to recover. we just need to stop wasting so much money (on both sides). the republicans were not conservative, and the democrats sure as hell aren't being conservative (28 billion to buy votes...enough said.). so, no. we do not need something drastic. truth hurts, doesn't it? - Scopitone, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11You Ron Paul fanatics are making him as cool as Chuck Norris jokes.
- GenocideMachine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ugh, it's people like you that cause America to be damned to a two-party system forever. Ron Paul is Republican in the sense that he's a REAL Republican, not part of the neo-Republican movement that seems to cause them to be warmongers and devour the very essence of the constitution. I'm pretty sure he's also a member of the Libertarians, and he'll bring about great change to America. Honestly, I can't imagine people hearing about him and his policies and not voting for him.

Well.. my state doesn't have an income tax :/
Anyway, I actually am a big Ron Paul supporter, even though I consider myself a democrat.. I still believe tax hikes are inevitable and completely necessary at this point because we can't truly recover without some drastic measures. It hurts, but it's the truth. - DaLukeMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2lol i like how one of those people cryed in there comment cause he said "dumb blonde" and then told him to grow up lol hes/shes crying on the internet

What is Digg?
The Digg Toolbar for Firefox lets you Digg, submit content, and keep track of Digg even when you're not on the Digg site. Download the official
