- Wakkyweed, on 07/10/2009, -4/+148An open letter to all Palin Fans:
I'd like to clear up some things about why some of us don't like Sarah Palin.
We are not afraid of her, or at least not afraid of her as an intimidating sort of person. We are afraid of the damage that could be done by someone as fanatical, uneducated, and overconfident as she is, if they ever reach higher office.
We understand why you guys like her. She is a charismatic person, and embodies many of the traits that conservatives hold so dear. That charisma is what worries the Anti-Palin crowd, because it makes you vote with your hearts instead of your brains. If you look at her dispassionately you see a darker side to her.
She went to five colleges in 6 years, which shows poor discipline, flightiness, and lack of intellectual rigor. Reports from former friends and political allies show that she tends to use people to her own advantage, then dispose of them in a ruthless manner as soon as they have lost their usefulness. (Remember, her nickname is "Sarah Barracuda". It refers to more than just basketball.) She has a tendency to appoint old classmates to cabinet positions that they are not qualified to run. She abused her power in office to get back at her ex brother-in-law. She does not listen to her advisers nor does she read newspapers, which shows an egomaniacal lack of concern for the opinion of other people. She preaches abstinence and responsibility, and yet she allowed Bristol's boyfriend to stay overnight several times, knowing that they were having sex and not using birth control. This shows massive hypocrisy. Most of all, she quit her job as Governor for no real reason and very abruptly. This shows that she is erratic, overly impulsive, and lacking in the important Conservative values of conviction and steadfastness.
All-in-all, Sarah Palin would simply be a disaster as president. Her personality traits make her uniquely unqualified for the position. - 2Six119, on 09/10/2009, -9/+145"Think of an American visiting France who believes that if he just speaks louder, he will be speaking French."
- regeya, on 07/10/2009, -6/+90I know people who firmly believe John McCain lost because of Sarah Palin.
They believe the reason she caused John McCain to lose is because of...
...wait for it...
...sexism.
Ayep, those of us who were scared of her having a chance at the button were really just expressing our dislike of vaginas in power. It had nothing to do with her being a vapid beauty queen who was also ***** insane, no not at all, it's all about the vagina! - djheavyd, on 07/09/2009, -4/+80The best explanation yet of Palinism
- Dustin00, on 07/10/2009, -1/+70The main thing about McCain that scared me were his 3 acts of economic stupidity:
1. "I don't know anything about economics." -- from 2006ish
2. "The economy is strong." -- one week before everything imploded
3. "I'm suspending my campaign to help in this economic crisis." -- followed by him spending a week alone in his office. - eyepennies, on 07/10/2009, -2/+58Seek help.
- Dustin00, on 07/10/2009, -6/+61"Palin's only actual message is the importance of loving and understanding Palin"
LMAO! What a nice way of saying "Palin's an attention whore!" - Kohdee, on 07/10/2009, -0/+47Best description of Palin I've ever heard.
- redfan, on 07/09/2009, -6/+51Perfect. She's simply going into "if you don't know why I'm quitting, then I'm not gonna tell you, you betcha!" mode.
- yocouchdigga, on 07/10/2009, -0/+43that was the best you could come up with?

The troll is weak with this one... - BigVi, on 07/10/2009, -7/+42She saw the deficit she was facing with Alaska, and realized that she was screwed so she pulled a palin. This isnt the first time she bailed on a job midstream.
- sugarazor, on 07/10/2009, -0/+31There are no liberals in the White House or the Supreme Court. Maybe one or two in congress. I see plenty of Democrats... but no real liberals.
And if you think Sarah Palin would have saved the world... you're absolutely beyond hope. Check yourself into a mental care facility as soon as possible. - smacksaw, on 07/10/2009, -2/+30Hey, did you hear that one about the witty Republican with a razor-sharp wit?
No, neither did I. Sorry, I'm just making that up. Must be all of the Palin talk. - theonlywizdum, on 07/10/2009, -3/+29Welcome to 2008. He's already release it and this has been debunked. Congrats on blindly following a group of idiots.
- sugarazor, on 07/10/2009, -0/+22Have you seen her approval numbers among Republicans? She's still their glimmer of hope... which speaks volumes about the state of the Republican Party.
- HappyScrappy, on 07/10/2009, -1/+23She doesn't even embody conservative ideals all that well. She's all for self-reliance until they need a bridge so expensive that the 250,000 residents of AK can't realistically pay for it, then she's all for the out of staters to pay.
She broke up a petroleum industry plan to build their own gas pipeline with their own money, then inserted the state government into the picture and claimed credit for the whole project as being a reality even though it isn't even under way yet.
For all the respect I have for her telling Wasilla that if they want a hockey rink they're going to have to pay for it in taxes (and they have done so), I lose all that and more when I see the amount of largesse the state accepts (and even requests) to operate.
It's kind of a bummer because I would like to think "America's last frontier" would be a great place to find real conservatives right now. If she's the closest thing in Alaska, maybe conservativism is dead. - smacksaw, on 07/10/2009, -1/+22I did. Why does it take me here?
http://digg.com/users/whiskeythief - Shaggy3, on 07/10/2009, -5/+25Something is going with the ethics charges. There was a very panicked tone to her voice at that conference.
- davdev, on 07/10/2009, -0/+18as a former communication major myself, I can say, it isn't all that hard
- WorldLeader, on 07/10/2009, -1/+19"Barack Obama is hiding something. About that statement, there is no dispute."
***** man why didn't you tell us you were Yoda earlier? Now I feel bad that I buried a Jedi master.. - kanojo1969, on 07/10/2009, -4/+21Honestly I think he gives her far too much credit. He makes it sound like there's some nuance to the woman, that she does actually have a clue but can't communicate it.
That's wrong. She's a very stupid, lazy woman, who nonetheless is quite cunning, and has learned over the years to use her looks and agression to get what she wants.
It's embarrassing to the town of Wasilla, the state of Alaska, and the GOP that she got as far as she did. But eventually she found herself in a position where she couldn't just bluster her way through and she looked like a moron.
This issue she has of being able to speak at length without making any sense at all is actually quite common. In business I've met plenty of people like that, some of whom were quite successful. Again, they got as far as they did through cunning and manipulation of people, but when you hold their feet to the fire, it turns out there's nothing behind the veneer.
The lack of coherent message is actually a reflection of the complete lack of any plan or strategy in their work. When you get them onto a topic that they know well, like sports or a hobby or something, they are actually quite articulate. But when it comes to their professional life, they have always managed to get by without doing any real work, so it's no surprise that they ultimately have nothing to say.
Anyway, Palin's gone. If she does end up on a ticket in 2012 it will be a short-lived disaster and we will get some more lulz. Otherwise she won't be bothering us again. - tnoy, on 07/10/2009, -1/+18She'll never make it past any primaries.
- piieerrrree, on 07/10/2009, -2/+17I like how delusional people convince themselves by adding "and other serious people" or such like things after they list more unspecified sources.
"Oh yes, Scientology is very helpful, Tom Cruise does it, and a lot of smart people too!"
Really, now? - darkciti2, on 07/10/2009, -0/+14Perhaps you should try it zebraz. His comment was cogent, well thought out and dead-on accurate.
I'm not saying weed make you intelligent, I'm just suggesting that his comment is clearly more insightful than yours; so the the cheap "pot" comment is idiotic at best. - sugarazor, on 07/10/2009, -0/+14Democrat and liberal are not always synonymous... just like Republican and conservative. Obama's a moderate at best... a far cry from a liberal/progressive.
- smacksaw, on 07/10/2009, -1/+15Considering the existing evidence, let me ask you a question:
Say he released the original birth certificate. Would YOU let it go then? Would your ilk finally shut the ***** about this? Or would you find new things about it to be paranoid about it.
We know how crazy works. You'll all say it's a forgery. Honestly, why does anyone care to satisfy a demand that you clearly cannot satisfy? What do you nutcases want? Just go out and say it - you want a do-over and you'll say and do anything to get it. Just admit that you cannot accept defeat. Be a man, for Christ's sake. Sack up. - davdev, on 07/10/2009, -0/+13He got a small bump by the hardcore right that had been skeptical off him. He got no such bump among the moderates or undecideds.
There are two types of Republicans, the business types who are most concerned about small government and low taxes and the religious nuts who think abortion is the #1 issue facing the country and Obama is a Kenyan born Muslim with terrorist sympathies. The later LOVED Palin, the former were as afraid of her as the rest of the country. - BigVi, on 07/10/2009, -2/+15Yea because you fox news puppets hold yourselves to the highest standards
- Mujokan, on 07/10/2009, -3/+16I think Palin is done as a presidential candidate. Obama has a hell of a job, given the unbelievable mess Bush left behind, but I can't see how he could screw things up that badly that people would prefer Palin.
The only point I really have to make about her now is to bitch about her saying the personal cost of defending against ethics complaints drove her from office.
I can't understand why, when they repeat this point, journalists don't point out that her costs started when she decided to file an ethics complaint *against herself* with the State Personnel Board. She did this because the SPB is Republican and is never going to find against her, and she was worried about the outcome of the legislature's investigation already in progress.
Then she hired a private law firm to handle the case, initially on a $95,000 contract. She has kept this firm through the other investigations. There was no obligation for her to do this either.
Now she has her slush fund, sorry "legal defense fund", the Alaska Fund Trust, which has some very loose rules if you read the pdfs on the website. (She also still has her PAC, which did a blitz on asking for money four days before she resigned That is more tightly controlled.)
So I find it irritating that she is complaining about being bankrupted out of office when she chose to run up the costs herself and they are going to be covered by donations (technically "gifts") in any case. - BasalCellBossk, on 07/10/2009, -0/+13Nah. He had a weak bounce after the convention and that was about it. Nobody called it that way at the time, then, as you say, the economy farted, a few days after McCain said the 'fundamentals of the economy were strong'.
Many Republicans were aghast at the lack of judgement in his choice of running mate. It was an obvious gamble that didn't pay off, and solely blaming the economy for his loss is revisionist wishful thinking. He never really had a chance. - Wakkyweed, on 07/10/2009, -0/+13Great comeback, moron. I dislike Palin, so therefore logically I must believe that Obama is perfect. Ever consider that I might have problems with both of them?
- stuffradio, on 07/10/2009, -0/+13If they know what they're doing, they'll pick someone better to run for president.
- inactive, on 07/10/2009, -1/+13How the hell did she get a communications degree?
- kanojo1969, on 07/10/2009, -1/+12***** off you moron.Quite apart from the fact that your points are either wrong, imagined, based on faulty reasoning and just plain stupid, this thread isn't even about Obama, what the ***** are you doing? Nobody, and I mean absolutely nobody, is interested in your opinion of the president right in the middle of a discussion about something completely different.
What a ***** cockburglar. - kingmanic, on 07/10/2009, -1/+12You do know that regardless of where he was born: he would be eligible for the presidency so long as one of his parents was a American citizen. McCain was born in Panama and he was cleared to run. The numerous looney lawsuits were thrown out mostly due to lack of standing. Look it up.
Simply addressing you is more credit than you deserve. - BasalCellBossk, on 07/10/2009, -1/+12The 'left wing media' don't exist. Fantasy by far-right paranoids. Just because people don't share your worldview doesn't make them 'left wing'.
The reason people are going on about Palin is because she is a spectacular mess. She's unbelievable. We've never before seen such a trainwreck.
She gets into the media cycle because she *thrusts* herself there. It is she who pushes herself forward. There was little interest in her recently until her utterly bizarre resignation.
If you don't think her unprecedented and unexplained resignation warrants media attention, then you might just be someone so embarrassed by her that you want her to go away desperately. Maybe you should tell her that. It's not our problem, and blaming other people for the fix your party is in, is exactly what Palin does, playing the victim and blaming others for problems she herself created. - inactive, on 07/10/2009, -0/+11So, how does Obama being imperfect have anything to do with Palin being an unqualified, incompetent, megalomaniac narcissist? Oh wait, you can't defend your Princess Cariboo so you lash out at anything that politically chafes you and call it a reasoned expression of political view and will.
That, and you're not quite ready to talk at the big table yet. - ru1dt, on 07/10/2009, -0/+11"Obama is a failed president only three months into his presidency."
You can give him a couple of more days, right?
Granted, three months is the gold standard on which all greatness is either won or lost, but I've been saying for years that it should be three months and six days. - inactive, on 07/10/2009, -0/+10Quick! GO JUMP IN FRONT OF A TRAIN , BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!!
- theonlywizdum, on 07/10/2009, -0/+10He's beyond help. Drive to Texas, buy a gun, and blow your ***** brains out.
- smacksaw, on 07/10/2009, -3/+13Goddamn it. I hate George Soros and you've made him more likeable to be by comparing him to Palin. Here, let me ruin something for you now: Megan Fox pooping.
- ftc08, on 07/10/2009, -0/+10BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE
Bury this guy. Your account is about to get removed. - MAXAMOUS, on 07/10/2009, -6/+16Bailin Palin.
- dagnabbit, on 07/10/2009, -0/+10Now you can fall back on your degree in...*checks record*...Oh good Lord, communications?!
It's true, it's phony major, I learned nothing!
-The Simpsons - 312139, on 07/10/2009, -0/+9Losing all power in government as well as alienating 75% of the country's voters is the round about way to win in the end.
- smacksaw, on 07/10/2009, -1/+10Hi, zebraz. How are you doing?
I'm a born-and-bred American. Now I live in Canada. Expanding one's world view by new experiences is valuable. You should try it. For an example, you can come visit Canada very easily. It's conveniently located on top of the continental USA. It's accessible from dozens of entry points along thousands of miles of border as well as dozens of airports. In most of Canada, English is also spoken. You will be able to communicate.
When this happens, you can enquire about politics. Get to know the NDP. You see, they are very far-left liberals. We don't have anyone like them in the US. We also have the Liberals! And you'd think they were liberal since their name is "Liberals", but don't let that fool you. It's more a of a grits/tories thing, something you can read about on Wikipedia for further information.
Finally, you have the Conservatives. Like the Liberals, they are also misnamed. Almost every thing you hate about the Democrats is part of the Conservative's platform. They could run for office in the South and no one would know they weren't Democrats if they didn't have a label.
I think that if you do this and return to the US, you'll have a newfound understanding of what a liberal really is and how few of them we actually have in our gov't. We have a lot of right-wing conservative Republicans. In fact, outside of Alberta, they would not only never get elected in Canada, they would be considered fascists.
Come visit Canada and compare. You'll learn a lot. And knowing is half the battle. - Wakkyweed, on 07/10/2009, -0/+9Cmcagle, talk to my relatives back in Texas and you will get a different point of view. Large parts of the South are still rabid fans of her.
Damn, I hate having rednecks in my family... - HappyScrappy, on 07/10/2009, -2/+11Maybe that explains some of her rambling. Honestly, it just doesn't matter all that much to me. It's clear from what she's said so far that she's just not fit to govern right now. The rest is just nibbling around the edges.
If she's not happy with how she's been treated, I sincerely hope she finds a new situation that she is happy with. But I also hope (and feel) that situation is not within the federal government. - jon0tan, on 07/10/2009, -2/+11What a creative and original statement.
