Lieberman Says Pelosi Syria Visit A "Mistake," Suggests Syria Behind 9/11

thinkprogress.org — Video at ThinkProgress. According to Joe Lieberman, Pelosi shouldn't have gone to Syria because "We’re in a war against the Islamic terrorists who attacked us on 9-11-01." CNN's Wolf Blitzer called him on it, thankfully, and Republican Arlen Specter defended the Syria trip.

Iran, Syria and Lebanon are on the chopping block next, probably simultaneously. Strangely, it's likely both sides of this hellish alliance think that their side will use the other and come out on top and ironically they're both destroying their own countries in pursuit of 'The Grand Plan'.

    Lets just put the facts on the table Adama - the Syrians are (mostly) Arabs and (mostly) Muslim, therefore they're automatically enemies according to your demented logic. You are an enemy of intelligence.

  • Junkyarddawg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4That israeli and US interests coincide is very much a matter of opinion. The Iraq war, for instance, was very much in the intererst of Israel, but it is increasingly unclear that it ever was in the interest of the US.
    Also, because Israeli economy is completely dependent on US aid, it is not in Israel interest to achieve peace in the middle east. Continued low-intensity war in the area is necessary for the continued prosperity of Israel: the actual cost for israel is very low, while the benefit can be measured in tens of thousands of jobs in a small desert country which otherwise would have to rely on selling fruit.

    That the US supports Israel as unconditionally as it does is a testament to the strength of the israeli lobby in Washington - Israel hasn't for a long time had the strategic value to motivate the enormous cost in money and international goodwill.
