- Tarkaan, on 06/22/2009, -14/+184This is real funny until you realize that Minnesota doesn't have a senator yet.
- buu2, on 06/22/2009, -16/+123Looks like Iran needs Jack Bauer
- DankJemo, on 06/22/2009, -5/+88It's funny because it is true... I wonder if the rulers of Iran have realized they screwed themselves... I wouldn't want to deal with a country full of pissed off Iranians. They have a tendency to take action.
- TJeske, on 06/22/2009, -8/+91Not a fair comparison, Iranians give a ***** when their elections are rigged.

dammit - MrDoug, on 06/22/2009, -4/+50Ventura turned out to be a fantastic governor, and the state's economy flourished during his administration. Oh...he was also a Navy SEAL. So I'm pretty sure he's done more with his life than you have.

- aflaks, on 06/22/2009, -4/+46are you saying that history becomes irrelevant after 9 years?
- Drax0n, on 06/22/2009, -1/+31How do you know he would have won anyways? and why should an entire country of people give up because you sitting in front of a computer thousands of miles away says they should just let their freedom go? Their right to have a fair election and choose their leader?
I bet you have never been to Iran, yet somehow you think your capable of telling the people who live there what to do after a rigged election, than again maybe I'm wrong.. I'm sure during the last election you just voted for whoever some Iranian told you to over the internet right? - Bermygoon, on 06/22/2009, -1/+31'Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable'
- luckyme77, on 06/22/2009, -2/+31Well, that was the general idea...
- BillCStickers, on 06/22/2009, -0/+29yeh, the issue for most iranians, From what I can tell from twitter, is not so much that their guy lost,as policy wise there isn't much difference between the two, but that it was so obviously rigged. landslide doesn't even begin to describe it. and in regions that loathed the guy. and only an hour after polling closed. They didn't even have time to balance the numbers properly, some places had more votes than voters.

- 0tis, on 06/22/2009, -2/+26What neither of you seems to be saying is that there were no protests, no related violence, and no censorship of the public after the 2000 election. Stop comparing it to America, this is beyond anything you or I have ever experienced and is likely beyond anything we ever will.
- inactive, on 06/22/2009, -14/+35*Insert comment about 2000 election, because that wasn't like nine years ago...*
- FreddieD, on 06/22/2009, -1/+21Oh yeah.. the election of 200 was total *****, when Katherine Harris the Supreme Court screwed Julius Caesar out of his rightful place as leader.

- donkz, on 06/22/2009, -2/+20Seems like Iran is as good in rigging election as it is in photoshop. (re: rockets)
- Elranzer, on 06/22/2009, -5/+21"If you voted for Gore, Hands up!"
*The majority of the US population raises its hand* - inactive, on 06/22/2009, -1/+17Let's recount by what number we have exceeded the actual (Registered) number of voters.
- PopcornDave, on 06/22/2009, -0/+15If he would have won anyway then why rig it? I mean 130-140% turnout in some places is better than Chicago ever did with their cemetery voting isn't it?
- Bermygoon, on 06/22/2009, -2/+16'It's funny because it is true'
I actually have to disagree with this expecially after watching the recent youtube videos. It is true but isn't funny. - randypanda, on 06/22/2009, -1/+15Or Jackie Chan

Not really. He really did do a pretty decent job. - clintsimpson, on 06/22/2009, -1/+12Name 10 things that aren't Jackie Chan
- drewish08, on 06/22/2009, -1/+12admittedly, I know far less about this election than I should....
- 0tis, on 06/22/2009, -1/+12"It seems if the victor cuts off the phones, even the power to some areas of the city, and censors the internet, begins a disinformation campaign and sends the police and special forces out to hunt those who continue to register their dissent, everything is wrong with the elections."
Fixed. - citizenhelder, on 06/23/2009, -0/+10Yes... just let it go that basic human rights to freedom are stomped by authoritarian rule. It doesn't affect you, why should you care? Buried for being a douche.
- djambo, on 06/22/2009, -0/+10That sentence, "it's funny because it's true," is often repugnantly wrong. Caution using it: you will look like an ignorant bastard to many.
- TobiasParker, on 06/22/2009, -4/+14Shopped, i can tell by the pixels.
- AraleNorimaki, on 06/22/2009, -2/+11let me explain something. Your younger brother is not the ultimate authority on this."
"I want to take a moment here to thank the members of the Supreme Court. You folks really cleared up that mess. And Florida, do us a favor — stay out of the next election." —David Letterman - dustko, on 06/22/2009, -6/+15If the civil disobedience in Iran is a direct spread of anything, it's Obama's election campaign, not Bush's 'legacy'. The sense of 'change' was one that the whole world got caught up with - remember the Obama speech in Berlin? Iran is almost a second wave of this electric 'change' catalyst. Just as Obama's message was spread by social media, Twitter is in the spotlight and has connected millions over the world personally to this event. That's the direct spread.
So Obama maybe. But 'thanks Bush for invading Iraq, on the balance you did good'? No way, and never. - Foundation12, on 06/22/2009, -2/+11Correlation is not causation, I suspect the Iraq war has done more to reinforce conservative power in Iran than bolster democratic hope (totalitarian regimes require a perceived threat to sovereignty). Still, the people of Iran have been slowly becoming more progressive for a long time now. If the army backs the will of the people, then it's only a matter of time before the theocracy is replaced. Conservative militias couldn't do much more than resort to terrorism if the army was behind a government restructuring.
- Mantoss, on 06/22/2009, -1/+8Well professional statisticians have run the numbers and decided that the likelihood that these number were to actually happen were somewhere near a quadrillion to 1. Not to mention the fact that Iran has admitted that 50 cities had more votes than voters.

- dixta, on 06/23/2009, -0/+5Maybe cast the Spell of Relevance while you're at it
- Russian55, on 06/30/2009, -0/+5Since a council of (unelected) mullahs decide who can run in the first place, what difference does it really make?
In the old Soviet Union there were elections where you could vote for any of the (Communist Party approved) candidates. It made no difference as they had no real authority. In Iran it is mostly the same, only the mullahs, not the Central Committee, approve who can and cannot run.
It is difficult to feel sorry for these people, however. They overthrew one tyrant (the Shah) only to install a new one.
A bit like Russia, actually. - EPeters, on 06/22/2009, -3/+8I read this cartoon wrong, being an American. In this country we put our hands up so as to NOT be shot, forgetting it's completely different in Iran.
- WiseWeasel, on 06/22/2009, -0/+5Unfortunately, the Iranian Jack Bauer is busy busting in the skulls of suspected terr'ists^W peaceful protesters.
