- chrisjj, on 11/21/2008, -3/+9They say that Johnson was complicit in the turning back of American fighter jets on their way to defend the USS Liberty against the Israeli onslaught in 1967. All in all, Johnson was the complete opposite of Kennedy as far as his position on Israel. With that record and his vacillating on Vietnam while thousands were killed needlessly, Johnson ranks down there with Nixon on the bottom of the presidential heap, in my opinion.

- inactive, on 11/23/2008, -3/+6It was about greed but it certainly wasn't about oil. The US has only exacerbated relations with oil-producing nations and only undermined their ruling regimes by aligning itself with Israel.
That's what so puzzled the Russians. They knew that siding with Israel only worked to the detriment of America's security interests. Russia underestimated the influence of the I-lobby in shaping our Middle East policy. - inactive, on 11/22/2008, -3/+6Really good book for free.

His support for Israel was about oil and greed. That is the only America that I choose to see.
