- CkMaverick, on 10/11/2007, -29/+186Regardless of what you think of Olbermann, you have to admit he is right on this issue. The Democrats were elected on the sole agenda of setting a date for withdrawal from Iraq at the very least and to stop the war within the next two years What do the Democrats do on their first attempt? They give the President anything he wants and then politely asks him if he could provide a report on the Iraqi government if he feels like it but doesn't have to in the end. If I was a Democrat, I would be furious. Even though I am not I am pretty annoyed at the thought of such impotence in the government. President Bush essentially has 100% of the power right now. There is no check and balance to his actions and he gave himself the right to be able to declare a state of emergency if he has to where he doesn't have to answer or check with the senate over his actions or declare them... We have allowed our leader to obtain way too much power, I can only pray it is not too late by the time '08 comes around and hopefully we elect someone who can reverse it rather than add to it.
- geekee, on 10/11/2007, -13/+107There are checks and balances. The Democrats are playing politics. They know that if the US is still failing in Iraq in Nov. 08, they win the white house. This is more appealing to them then doing what they think is right.
- EarthAndStars, on 10/11/2007, -7/+57These two political parties are two sides of the same filthy coin. Do you really think voting R or D makes any difference anymore?
The American "democracy" is a scam. We are voting for the same party with two different names.
Oh sure, digg me down and vote R or D. I'm sure this next time they will act differently. - ssjdoob, on 10/11/2007, -3/+49@darkened
I will gladly bury you for putting this President in the same league as the Founding Fathers. No other President has done more to destroy everything they created as this one has. Your loyalty to the Republican party has blinded you. - fredxor, on 10/11/2007, -6/+40Sorry for the comment misuse, but here's the youtube link for the video, just in case you want to download it or something: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9rI8f7N3LE

I dugg you down not because you are an unwavering Republican but because you are an unwavering Republican in favor of George Bush.
That guy is an *****. - CkMaverick, on 10/11/2007, -1/+22@cwo655321
I have always been an Independent since before voting age and was pulling for the Democrats to set a date and put some pressure on Bush; however, I was trying to stress the powers and under the table rights Bush has granted himself since the Patriot Act. He is literally positioning himself in an such an invincible position that I am both curious and afraid of what he may do before he loses office and what his successor does with the power. He has the ability spy on any American by any means, arrest you for no reason for however long he wants, and to make himself immune from all of Congress under a state of emergency he himself can define. If that doesn't cause concern, then I don't know what will. - kakwakas, on 10/11/2007, -2/+23@CkMaverick
This is what well-regulated militias are for (and why the government doesn't like them). If you have enough people WILLING to fight a civil war and we still have guns, the government has almost no choice but to back down peacefully. Unless, of course, a part of the nation wants to secede...
2nd amendment FTW. - bblades, on 10/11/2007, -4/+25Keith with another elegant and realistic commentary. He is one of the few in the media with a grasp of the stupidity that has been going on
- aaronhoffmeyer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+19@darkend ... "Bury me for being a proud and unwavering republican."
OK. Done.
Hitching your reins on a party, while the expected thing to do in the US, often amounts to devout, unquestioning obeisance to whoever is the leader of the pack. Some of the time, sanity sort of prevails, but sometimes it does not (Germany in the 1930s). While George Bush may have stuck to his guns, his guns are dumb ... empiricist and dumb.
The Democrats are not winning over hearts and minds with their incessant whining, while doing nothing to change the status quo for the last eight years. They have practically given Bush everything he has wanted.
Amazingly, most people want freedom, happiness, safety, physical and financial security and some good food and sex. Most do NOT want government interference in our lives, as long as we are playing by some basic rules. Unfortunately, the basic rules now number in the millions of pages, and government is big, scary, and captained by a C student and a bunch of whiny pansies.
Neither party seems focused on what is best for us in the long term, despite their rhetoric. Maybe it is time to reboot. - InfamousAtheist, on 10/11/2007, -13/+31Yeah, that video sure made me laugh. Such a hysterical topic.
/sarcasm - strafefire, on 10/11/2007, -3/+21I used to be a republican...but the direction that the party was headed in actually frightens me.
Then, I gave the Democratic party a try, but the direction that my party is headed to actually PISSES ME THE ***** OFF.
How dare they trade the lives of my fellow veterns in arms for F$#@ing politcs! God dammit!, we voted you in to get us out!

Ron Paul for President. - Langford, on 10/11/2007, -19/+35Would it be too absurd to suggest that we consider retiring the position of President? If it can be abused so throughly, maybe the power needs to be split into several directions.

We know how The United States Electoral College works... We don't need a civics lesson. Are you actually trying to hint that we have no bearing on who becomes President of the United States or just trying to be a smart ass? While technically correct, the states use popular vote:
The Mechanics of The United States Electoral College:
The election of the President of the United States and the Vice President of the United States is indirect. Presidential electors are selected on a state by state basis as determined by the laws of each state. Currently each state uses the popular vote on Election Day to elect electors. Although ballots list the names of the presidential candidates, voters within the 50 states and the District of Columbia are actually choosing Electors from their state when they vote for President and Vice President. These Presidential Electors in turn cast the official (electoral) votes for those two offices. Although the nationwide popular vote is calculated by official and media organizations, it does not determine the winner of the election.
-On a side note, what the hell is wrong with bashing O'Reilly? - SmokedL, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15Having only been exposed to Olbermann through a few videos posted on digg I was as yet undecided as to whether I should consider him a just a militantly partisan Democrat, or whether he would speak up as vocally when the Democrats screw over the people of the US as when the Republicans do it. This video removed any doubt in my mind. Thank goodness there are still people around who will vocally stands by their beliefs without succumbing to inane partisan bias.
I thought that Comedy Central was the only American media that actually dealt with the real issues in a reasonably balanced way(Using comedy to make it reasonably politically acceptable). Perhaps it's time to take a look at what MSNBC has to offer.
"Speaking the Truth in times of universal deceit is a revolutionary act." George Orwell
True words. Taking the type of stance Olbermann does is far from easy in the current political climate. Huge kudos. Balls of steel! - killiansman, on 10/11/2007, -3/+18@ darkened
Yes, I will give you that he has stuck to his word. But that's not necessarily a good thing. Bush has made unwise and irresponsible decisions in spite of empirical evidence saying otherwise. As far as I'm concerned if he did it because he truly believed that he was doing the right thing, then the man is not fit to be President. And if he did it for his own selfish reasons then he is obviously not a servant of the people as he was meant to be. - kapsar, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15He's calling it assinine, because of the way bush is going about trying to get the money. It's bushes way or no way. Yes we need to give the troops money, but the reason it's assinine was that bush would not accept artificial time lines for an exit. If the troops needed the money so badly, why did he veto the first bill? That's why it's assinine. Every one realizes we need to give the troops money. But to play games like that with our troops lives is assinine.

Olbermann nailed it. - GabrielS, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11Good idea moran. :)
Actually, if your sign says "Your Fired" I think the politicians will toast themselves for creating exactly the kind of public education system they envisioned. - hayleysongbird, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12If you didn't notice there was a fair amount of Democrat bashing as well...
- GabrielS, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11We so promise to end this war if you just elect more Democrats. You see, in 2006, we told you we would end this unpopular war if you just voted for Democrats. You voted. We heard you, but we weren't really listening. But now we are. Just elect more Democrats in 2008 and we so solemnly swear we will finally end this unpopular war.
Seriously, hand to God. We will end this war...and start another.
Just go out to the polls and elect Democrats.
PS: Bring money. - lhnz, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12@mach32 (#7127428)
Wow, he's failed?!
So you mean he is doing this from his home with no money or resources and pretending to be on a major TV show! - Woomanchu, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12The same reason why you think someone should care what you think. Remember, you are just some random person on the internet; atleast we know what Olberman has done.
- GabrielS, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Umm, you don't think the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee were selling their candidates on a pledge to "end this unpopular war"?
The elections were only 7 months ago and we've already forgotten that the Democrats ran on ending the "unpopular war"? - domlachowicz, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12@CkMaverick
"the Federal Reserve Bank keeps driving our dollar into the ground"
I think that our deficit spending and love of cheap, imported foreign goods and labor is doing a much better job at that than the Fed. The Fed's only giving us what we want. The Fed's not responsible for China, Saudi, Korea, and Japan's $1 trillion reserves. Our heroin-like addiction to oil, electronics, and cheap shiny things is. - kakwakas, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9This is why we have democracy. He doesn't have to run for president; He can vote and encourage others to vote the same way he does.
- Satanael, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Republicans or Democrats, they're all politicians no matter how you cut it.
- CkMaverick, on 10/11/2007, -4/+13If you can find a way to get 60 million votes that would be a way =P Just like Gravel said, it is law that if 50% of Americans actively vote/petition something it must be done. But in all seriousness, America needs to start getting wiser and electing candidates with completely different, new, and innovative policies instead of the ones that are hand-picked for us who just stand up and say they will continue just as Bush has but instead will manage it better. I can seriously see a revolution or a civil war before the year 2100 if we keep losing rights, the Federal Reserve Bank keeps driving our dollar into the ground, and we maintain our imperialist interventionist foreign policies. We have undergone each of them once and we can again if necessary to preserve our liberty from government.
- jrsims, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12I love Keith. But...
I wonder which candidate he will endorse if he is allowed to at all? Doesn't Ron Paul seem the kind of guy Keith would be talking up right now?
Think he ever will? Why or why not? - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10What a surprise. The Democrats don't listen to us any better than the Republicans. Either that, or they are too gutless to act.
- DoctaStooge, on 10/11/2007, -4/+13@ isslanddog
"The Democrats were elected on the sole agenda of setting a date for withdrawal from Iraq "
Where do you get that information from?
- From the American people who voted them in to get the numbers needed to stop a pointless war which has only led to 3000+ deaths of American soldiers. - haggie, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8I would like to hear Nancy Pelosi's reponse to Olbermann's comments.
Actually, forget that, I'm tired of empty promises from both sides of the aisle. - Philodox, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7@gabriels
"A demonstration of balls would be to cancel the softball interviews with Al Gore and start throwing serious questions at him like "Why isn't this Congress stopping this war?" Instead, it was the blunt and the gutless with Olby practically massaging Gore."
And what, exactly, would Gore do about these hard hitting questions? Write the dems a letter politely asking them to start behaving like good politicians? - maeon3, on 10/11/2007, -6/+13I say we all march up to the government offices and say "your fired", clean out your desks.
- rujnf, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9My Question is. Even for political positioning is it right to play god with peoples lives? Everyone is saying Dem's failed Rep's failed Bush failed.... Simple true is We have all failed. We've failed Those men and women that are the only ones here brave enough to do something about it. We Bicker back and forth about what should be done and who is right and who to blame but its all of us that are to blame. We stand by thinking there is nothing anyone can do. Well frankly thats Bull ***** politicians work for us WE control what they do but to SIT and complain does nothing but get more people killed. Write you congressman Ca ll up the office get out and demonstrate! This is our Vietnam people (sorry to liken it to that but it is) If nothing is done we will have failed failed the world, Our government once a shining example of what is right is now no more that a half cocked Fascist Reign of Terror and no one wants to see it that was.
We are not powerless
DO SOMETHING! - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7"Are you actually trying to hint that we have no bearing on who becomes President of the United States or just trying to be a smart ass?"
I'm not trying to hint at anything. That's in fact what I'm saying. The position of the President was never designed to accumulate the power that it has. You can blame that on Roosevelt for using the One-Man Clause (often referred to in a business sense) - what it means is when things get bad, people need one man to listen to. At the time Roosevelt had a syndicated radio show, which offered him the platform (instead of the Speaker of the House or the Chief Justice). It was a matter of chance, but over the past 60 years (from Roosevelt to Bush) the position has grown beyond its intended authority. Bush has just used all the loopholes that previous President's didn't, some legal and some borderlining.
The reality is that people want to think their vote counts. One man, one vote - isn't that what our pop-culture teaches us? The truth behind the matter is that your vote doesn't count. Gore could have won by 90% popular vote, but if the EC gave Bush the votes, then what Gore did didn't matter.
Because you apparently suffer from these delusions - I would suggest taking a public civics class. If you read the Constitution, follow the writings of Adams and others who had their hand in writing the document - you would understand that their intention was never to have one person in charge, and it was also not the intention to let the majority decide who would lead our military and assist Congress in constructing laws and protecting us. Because of your reasoning, and the fact that you're getting dugg up - it kind of proves my point.
Thanks. - nonsequitor, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7@EarlofLade
By cartoon character are you referring to the only presidential candidate which has completed a doctorate? The candidate who has well reasoned and honest opinions on issues rather than using non-committal phrases which are designed to move the candidate to the center of the political spectrum?
Or maybe you're referring to lil' bush, the new cartoon show about our current commander and chief. The one who I could see stalking through the woods saying "Be wery wery qwiet. I'm hunting wabbit!" Perhaps you should use some facts rather than making ad hominem attacks and you won't get dugg down to hell. - Tallon29, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5He's pretty good with Dan Patrick on ESPN Radio. I try and listen to them whenever I can.
- aadyss, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Keith Olbermann is chief of the "valley girls. Wouldn't waste my time.
- strafefire, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7BTW, I personally think that if either Ron Paul or Mike Gravel were to begin winning primaries across America, they would probably end up assassinated...
And, if Obama were to win the Democratic ticket (He is my number 2 after Gravel), he had better get a Mexican dude as his vice presidential candidate.
That way, he would most definitely be safe from assassination, because many people would not be privy to the alternative... - EarlOfLade, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6This is the result of the horrible 2 party system and even more horrible election system this country has.
A 2 party system that for all practical purposes functions like a 1 party system and were both parties have no other interest than to upkeep status quo.
