Jon Stewart patiently explains what YouTube is to CNN
rawstory.com — In this debate, candidates would be asked video questions voters submitted on the Web. If that just sounds like a town hall meeting, only without any human interaction -- dude, you just don't get it."

- MrStabby, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3JEN, You can do better!
- Alegoo92, on 10/10/2007, -7/+3I don't agree with him.. it was a good idea. Why no full screen? Youtube mighta just wanted some of their name up on that screen too.
- hoovcluck, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3That's cause CNN is a joke.
- BarbaraKolbe, on 10/10/2007, -3/+35No one else but Jon Stewart can *both* make fun of MSM giant CNN and newcomer YouTube. His point? It's all a set-up and not a *real* political debate. Oh, for the good old days when political candidates truly hashed out the issues with someone like the League of Women Voters asking the questions.
In fact, diggers, go visit *their site: if you want to see the views of your local, state and national politicians: http://www.lwv.org/AM/Template.cfm?Section=Home- mannaran, on 10/10/2007, -16/+0I disagree with you... YouTube is not a newcomer..
- OregonUte, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4YouTube is definitely a newcomer, considering they were started just over two years ago.
- mannaran, on 10/10/2007, -1/+02 years.. too long in Internet..!!.. Also YouTube is more pervasive than CNN..!!
- OregonUte, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4YouTube is definitely a newcomer, considering they were started just over two years ago.
- mannaran, on 10/10/2007, -16/+0I disagree with you... YouTube is not a newcomer..
- neckfire, on 10/10/2007, -4/+22FTA- When Stewart objected that "some of the people asked really good questions," Jones retorted, "Sure, it's easy to ask those questions when you're Joe Schmo ... Everything is easy for the schmoes. But they don't have to see these people the next day at the reporter-candidate friendship brunch."
- notque, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Which was easily the most insightful thing said in that skit.
- pardonmedoug, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15EXACTLY. Politicians are accountable to the people; the people are NOT accountable to politicians. When the people asking questions are going to get a hard time about asking tough ones, the system is broken.
- tucsonsun13, on 10/10/2007, -0/+69These are NOT debates. They are Q&A sessions and are LAME. An actual debate would feature 2 more candidates seated together de-ba-ting an important political issue, back-forth for an extended period of time.
- spawnfree, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Which implies that the candidates are repeating memorized lines instead of really understanding and taking responsibility for the cause and effect of their decisions.
Which is what i would expect from corporate shills. - hoovcluck, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8If they have to actually debate then their ignorance will be exposed for the world to see.
- commnode, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"back-forth for an extended period of time"
and of course there is the ever popular marathon debate, which can go on for up to 36 hours, with the winner being the last man able to stand - solistus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Agreed.
Presidential debates should follow the format of college Policy Debate. One debate lasts about 2 hours and requires each side to put forth arguments and respond to the other candidates' claims.
In many Presidential "Debates," candidates aren't even supposed to refer to each other or each other's speeches directly.
- spawnfree, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Which implies that the candidates are repeating memorized lines instead of really understanding and taking responsibility for the cause and effect of their decisions.
- logicalnoise, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9anyone else see the daily shows's redinition of the ottoman humping guys?
- algorhythmix, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2It was awesome ...
- neoblaque, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11I was laughing so hard, I had to quit humping my ottoman.
- noblepaladin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3They should have people vote for which questions get submitted to the debate. Granted there has to be some moderation (i.e. to make sure that the goatse guy doesn't pop up and to make sure that the questions are "real" questions, since one guy wanted to ask the candidates about Arnold and his cyborg army, which was apparently popular with youtube viewers), but at least let the moderators be ordinary guys.
- Sunfightersix, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8Oh come on! i found the question "if the office of president were only paid minimium wage would you still do it?" To be a hard hitting question!!
- kosmoX, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Especially considering most of the people on the stage could retire right now and never have to worry about their financial stability...
- JeffreyLloyd, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11http://www.ifilm.com/video/2878143/show/17676
- notque, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6The interesting new high tech youtube! And yet, the same old corporate candidates speak most of the time, and the populist candidates on the end out of everyone's way.
- joelav22, on 10/10/2007, -9/+3rawstory = teh suck and buried
- s1mph0ny, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Well, the video didn't play so I'll give you that one.
- solistus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Your comment = teh suck and buried.
- Battleloser, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I liked the part where the guy with the sock puppet asked why climate change issues weren't being taken seriously.
- mateo60, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7hypothetical debate lesbians. haha
- miriclaire, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Shooting ducks in a barrel.

sorry, brain washed from Digg- spawnfree, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2that was quick, i had not even put the needles in.
- solistus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I laughed, but sarcasm doesn't work on Digg. The Ron Paul groupies will bury you for the latter comment, and most of the sane people will bury you for taking the first line literally as more Ron Paul spam.
- spawnfree, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2that was quick, i had not even put the needles in.
- butbutz, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3Wow, an article quoting a comedy show!
- spawnfree, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5you dont get the daily show.
For those of us that watch the news, then see this show, we are laughing because the jokes are spot-on satire.
- spawnfree, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5you dont get the daily show.
- SocialPoison, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17Must digg... jon stewart...
must bury... rawstory...
*headasplode* - montezumamike, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9So now we're posting articles about segments of the Daily Show instead of the actual clips? Lame.
- ChristianMagic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4The clip was also on the page if you scrolled down.
- ukthom, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1love it...love the end bit with the "political correspondent"
- Winston84, on 10/10/2007, -6/+3"Jones retorted, "Sure, it's easy to ask those questions when you're Joe Schmo ... Everything is easy for the schmoes. But they don't have to see these people the next day at the reporter-candidate friendship brunch."
So much for journalistic integrity .. You think your job is to be friends and eat brunch with the politicians ?- manifestdata, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Is this guy being serious? Welcome to the wonderful world of The Daily Show where everything said should be taken literally.
- Agrajag, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9I can't think of any way to respond to this other than to point out that the joke missed the top of your head by about ten miles. That has to be some kind of record.
- solistus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0You, sir, are an idiot. That is precisely what this SATIRE was supposed to be pointing out.
- shadowspawn, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Oh, it's going to turn into a debate.
People forget how easy it is to sample videos and make a compilation.
C'mon, even I could take all of the snippets and create a virtual debate.
Oh and buried because the bandwidth on such a hot topic should've been anticipated. - SnowmanInTheSun, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Hypothetical debate lesbians, FTW
- MrSquishyPants, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2Actually, to be fair, the rant about the fullscreen-mode of YouTube is not entirely correct. Sure you can go fullscreen, but you end-up with a pixelated image which wouldn't look too impressive.
Try it. - musters, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I'm glad Jon Stewart took attack on YouTube and CNN because really, he made some excellent points.
- Screen size?
- Why do we need video debate when the guy is standing in the F*%#ing audience? - HMTKSteve, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2I know it was mentioned before but this exchange says it all:
When Stewart objected that "some of the people asked really good questions," Jones retorted, "Sure, it's easy to ask those questions when you're Joe Schmo ... Everything is easy for the schmoes. But they don't have to see these people the next day at the reporter-candidate friendship brunch."
Those words alone point out how beholden the press is to the democrats. They can't ask the tough questions because they will lose access to the candidates. Know what? If they do not ask the tough questions than they will lose access to something even bigger... Their audience.- boxmonkey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You mean how beholden the press is to the politicians. Surely the republicans are getting the same treatment from the press.
- solistus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+01. You're an idiot. This is satire. Jones was poking fun at the politicians, and you took him seriously.
2. You're an idiot troll. This is not a partisan issue. The Republicans don't say any more of substance at these debates than the Dems do. At least Obama and Hillary had a spat over an actual policy question. The Republicans are still working through the ad hom phase.
- ArandiaT, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2This debate style reminds me of what they did here in Canada for our last election - very similar idea to the u-tube questions, but people submitted their questions on the news station's web site in written form, and then only the best were chosen and the camera team went and filmed them. Had the benefit of a higher resolution image that could be properly displayed, plus with the image sizing in mind I think that the whole debate was better executed.
Guess the whole idea of the audience submitting the questions isn't so new after all, this happened in last January :S - ronintetsuro, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Hate to be cliche, but... Jon, please run for 08. You'd be the king of Landslide Victories.
- CurlyHayami, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Gotta hate Youtube.
- dillibob, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1i love how he jokes around about his clips not being alowed on youtube... ***** viacom
