- danxmason, on 10/31/2009, -15/+644Wow even Fox admits that the majority of its programming isn't news.
- mmittimm, on 10/31/2009, -14/+413I'm glad he finally nailed Fox in a direct manner like this. I mean he's constantly bashing on them but it's usually just little quips about stupid things that their anchors say/do.
Nice to see Stewart take on the channel as a whole, it reminded me of some of the great segments he did during the elections in response to Palin's tomfoolery.
Hope he keeps it up. - herozero, on 10/31/2009, -22/+390classic. should be required watching for all voters
- pgriffinmonmout, on 10/31/2009, -15/+313CNN rips Fox. The White House rips fox. Comedy Central rips fox. The Internet rips Fox.
Me thinks Fox is doing something wrong.... - hughesw2, on 10/31/2009, -13/+241dailykos admits they're an opinion outlet for liberals, fox news falsely presents themselves as balanced
- lolerskate, on 10/31/2009, -17/+234Fox isnt about news it about money, if rupert murdoch could do this much cash with a liberal channel he would do it.
Jerry Springer too had sky high ratings doesnt mean it was good. - smashTasker, on 10/31/2009, -15/+198Fox news is the propaganda arm of the Republican party, not a news channel. Even President Obama's press secretary has recognized this.
- biliabong6, on 10/31/2009, -18/+187Freedom of the Press does not mean they are free to blantaly lie and slander.
- janoo1989, on 10/31/2009, -3/+161http://watch.thecomedynetwork.ca/the-daily-show-wi ...
For us Mother Canuckers - Shuk, on 10/31/2009, -10/+160He really nails the whole cycle of Fox News. The pundits take something small or out of context and outrage on it, but they're just pundits, they don't have to be balanced, right? Fox News then reports on a "growing outrage", based on the outrage that their pundits artificially created. Instead of reporting the news, they are essentially "creating" the news, making them, by definition, a propaganda channel rather than a news channel.
- rocknog, on 10/31/2009, -4/+134A basic civics class should be required for all voters, but that ain't gonna happen anytime soon.
- brsox2445, on 10/31/2009, -4/+132Logic and reason rip Fox.
- Chaosboy, on 10/31/2009, -8/+134So if only 9 out of 24 hours per day is "News", isn't the name "Fox News" intentionally misleading to consumers? I'm OUTRAGED!
- OfoarHeffinsake, on 10/31/2009, -1/+124To be fair, I lost my remote during my latest homobortion socialist get together "Tax N' Sodomy Daze!"
I'll leave it to your imagination to determine exactly how I lost it. - ianzu, on 10/31/2009, -8/+127And it's really from the Daily Show, which is a topical comedy show that goes after anybody that does something stupid.
- herozero, on 10/31/2009, -21/+132yes, they are EXACTLY the same.... you are brilliant.
/s - lolerskate, on 10/31/2009, -7/+114You usually come with better troll post than this.
- twiztidsinz, on 10/31/2009, -5/+100@Azuvector: Correct.
Jane Akre (and Steve Wilson) vs New World Communications of Tampa
In short, Fox News won the right to lie, omit and distort facts and label it news.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jane_Akre Jane Akre and her husband Steve Wilson are former employees of Fox-owned-and-operated station WTVT in Tampa, Florida. In 1997, they were fired from the station after refusing to knowingly include false information in their report concerning the Monsanto Company's production of RBGH, a drug designed to make cows produce more milk. They successfully sued under Florida's whistle-blower law and were awarded a US $425,000 settlement by jury decision. However, Fox appealed to an appellate court and won, after the court declared that the FCC policy against falsification that Fox violated was just a policy and not a "law, rule, or regulation", and so the whistle-blower law did not apply.
The court agreed with WTVT's (Fox) argument "that the FCC's policy against the intentional falsification of the news -- which the FCC has called its "news distortion policy" -- does not qualify as the required "law, rule, or regulation" under section 448.102.[...] Because the FCC's news distortion policy is not a "law, rule, or regulation" under section 448.102, Akre has failed to state a claim under the whistle-blower's statute."[1]
Here are the court cases directly from the Florida Second District Court of Appeal:
2D01-529 / New World Communications of Tampa v. Akre http://www.2dca.org/opinions/Opinion_Pages/Opinion ...
2D01-529 / New World Communications of Tampa, Inc. v. Akre http://www.2dca.org/opinions/Opinion_Pages/Opinion ... - Azuvector, on 10/31/2009, -4/+86They've also apparently been acquitted in court of some charge or other, via the defence that there's nothing illegal about the news lying to viewers.
- QQMore, on 10/31/2009, -4/+82bobman40 is an idiot and should be ignored!
FTFY - phobozad, on 10/31/2009, -9/+83The only person at Fox News that I have any respect for is Shepard Smith.
- BigGooseX, on 10/31/2009, -6/+72Fox News, and every other "news" channel for that matter, should be called out when they disseminate false information to the public. Fox News just happens to do it more often than others, even MSNBC.
- SookIt, on 10/31/2009, -15/+78the sad part of all this is that even when the retarded bible thumpers know the facts they still choose to believe lies, i do not get it. i used to be a bush fanboy but was fortunate to get schooled on the bias of fox news and rush and all the other ***** ***** who lied to me for years and i swallowed my pride chose to believe in facts instead of bias *****. YES it is hard to say that your have been lied to but it is an important step you god damn ***** moronic right wing ***** dickholes, get over your pride and admit your are being led around like sheep
- rossnyc, on 10/31/2009, -12/+70Doesn't matter where it's from. It's true. You know it. And if you don't you're a brainwashed Republican.
- detcade, on 10/31/2009, -2/+60"Why? Because the average person knows they are not getting the truth from the normal media outlets."
Thank you, self-appointed voice of the average person. I'm sure I can trust your baseless, clearly biased statistical analysis without any sort of backup to your statements.
"Just because you disagree with them doesn't make it news."
I'm sorry, what? Can you restate that?
"This is still a "center right" country"
Of course, that's why almost 55% of Americans elected a Democrat for the head of the United States administration.
"If it's not news and is just for fun (like the Daily Show, which I watch almost every day), why is everyone so upset?"
google the word "satire" please and try posting again. - mmittimm, on 10/31/2009, -3/+59Fox didn't investigate Acorn. They just reported on the undercover videos, like every other news outlet.
- sugarazor, on 10/31/2009, -3/+57And here's a slippery slope from another perspective: Look what happens when we let anyone vote... a nation of ***** morons. Whether they're in the voting booth or on the ballot, a whole lot of ***** morons.
- Greengoo, on 11/01/2009, -1/+54Comedy Central is for News.
Fox News is for Comedy.
See how this works people? - MaTT2011, on 10/31/2009, -4/+56I'll take "Deflection" for 500, Alex.
Heres something to keep in mind, which was also mentioned at the end; MSNBC is "petty theft' compared to Fox Entertainments (see; not news) "Gang rape" of journalism. Far more people watch fox news, so why would the white house waste their time trying to silence a harmless voice of agreement, that nearly NOBODY listens to, when it could go after a slanderous, fear mongering and frankly dangerous legion of idiots who's sole desire is to destroy the current administration and profit from it?
Its not the white houses job to regulate ALL of journalism, but it is its job to combat slanderous false hoods that undermine legitimacy and overall effectiveness of their ability to do their jobs!
Priorities; look it up. - zeth006, on 10/31/2009, -4/+54On top of that, Stewart actually once admitted implicitly that the demographic that watches his segment is composed largely of potheads. It thus surprises me that conservatives get all pissy every time Stewart tells the truth.
- Sux4Bux, on 10/31/2009, -10/+54dailykos acknowledges they're pundits giving opinions. Faux pretends that their propaganda is news and their opinions are facts, then calls themselves balanced. Plus we're talking about a website vs. a national TV station that labels themselves news. Only reason liberal bias outlets even exist is because the right wing bought the corporate media.
- swantamer, on 10/31/2009, -10/+53Wow. Another "conservative" who should suck on my full engorged horse rod.
- kashem, on 10/31/2009, -8/+48http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/thu-october-29-2 ...
- OfoarHeffinsake, on 10/31/2009, -4/+44I for one would like to know when "we think Fox is propaganda" is the same thing as actively trying to isolate and silence them.
The White House isn't allowed to have an opinion about Fox's worth as a news organization? It's not like they tried to shut down the network or anything.
After all, where did you get the idea that the White House was trying to "isolate and silence" Fox News? Oh yeah, from Fox News.
So please tell me what steps the White House or any government official has taken to somehow censor or silence Fox News. I would be very interested to learn of such a thing.
Just remember: opinions about Fox News's level of propaganda is not censorship. - QQMore, on 10/31/2009, -6/+46Says the guy that spams Digg with everything that Murdoch ***** out of the WSJ. Yeah, you have credibility.
- GorfTron, on 10/31/2009, -11/+50I don't care that fox is right wing *****. But the "Fair and Balanced" stuff is a complete joke.
- detcade, on 10/31/2009, -1/+38Stop shouting your opinions at me. FOX is rubbing off on you too much.
- jrobbi, on 10/31/2009, -6/+42we report, our commentators decide what you should think, you decide
- drewh1991, on 10/31/2009, -2/+37Actually, we CAN differentiate between news and opinion, and that's why we don't watch fox news! Its the neo-cons who CAN'T differentiate between opinion, and swallow every fox news lie without hesitation. That is the problem here!
- norwegianlegion, on 10/31/2009, -12/+47This is what's needed to bring down Fox: a systematic rape of all their ***** leaving bare the truth that Fox is a partisan bullhorn for the extremist right's/Murdock's views. Unfortunately, it needs to be told to the "take our country back" crowd via Glenn Beck wearing an American flag speedo during a fireworks show over amber waves of grain to be believed, lest it be dismissed out of hand as Liberal propaganda.
- VincentThomas, on 10/31/2009, -14/+48"It's your job to ***** up power. It's Fox's job to ***** up truth."
Epic quote for the books. - Ubermann, on 10/31/2009, -6/+40What the FOX.
- newerakb, on 10/31/2009, -0/+32When I watched this on tv, my first thought was "that was one of the best daily show segments i've ever seen"
- detcade, on 10/31/2009, -3/+35"They don't mindlessly worship Obama, like every other outlet out there,"
But did they not mindlessly worship Bush during his 8 years? And I doubt other news networks worship Obama, you're just as biased as the "new" you watch
"and they are the only news organization that presents both sides of the story."
This clearly shows that you haven't watched the linked video. FOX is not "fair and balanced". - noahgelman, on 10/31/2009, -2/+34poprocksandsoda is a way better troll
- Azuvector, on 10/31/2009, -4/+35Well, obviously. He admits he's not news either. He's satire, based upon news and politics. Yet, when you sit down and do your fact checking on topics you might happen to care about...he's generally accurate(Other than obvious distortions for humour value.): this is why Stewart and Colbert get worthwhile guests on their shows, rather than the politicians fleeing from them at first mention of their name. You don't need Jon Stewart to tell you fox news is full of it, if you have half a brain. :P
- manlyandy, on 10/31/2009, -4/+34I think you're on to something. And in exactly the same manner, Glenn Beck and his lawyers trying to silence the rumors that he raped and murdered a girl in 1990 must mean that he really did rape and murder the girl. Why try to silence something that isn't the truth? Why give it the time of day? Glad I found someone I can count on to help me spread the truth about Glenn Beck.
- CrazedChemist, on 10/31/2009, -1/+31Since you didn't watch the video since it is probably too liberal for you, ill make sure you get it.
Bush also whined about the news outlets 7 months before leaving office. Fox news never called him out as being a communist free speech suppressor (and either did the other channels). Yet when obama does it, the country is ran by a communist. PURE BIAS. - stuwanker, on 10/31/2009, -0/+28...and people in the states are supposed to know that a link doesn't work outside the USA how?
- gl77, on 10/31/2009, -2/+30yes, it is a problem.....it's a problem when news outlets claim to be "fair & balanced" as they SHOULD be but are the complete opposite of that. no matter which way they slant. What ever happened to integrity in reporting? you report the news, that is your job. your job does not include showing favor. your job does not include commiserating, your job is to look into the camera and deadpan report the news with a professional demeanor which does not include personal opinions, unfavorable facial expressions when reporting on a news item you dislike, and/or little quips about the news item. Walter Cronkite could have sure taught these people a thing or two about integrity in journalism.
