- javy925, on 05/16/2009, -11/+372wow, john stewart criticizing obama? but the right-wing nuts told me stewart was a socialist who only went after republicans
- wjappe, on 05/15/2009, -4/+300At the end I like this and not just on this occasion:
"Always check the fine print"
Yes We Can
But that doesn't necessarily mean we're going to - chunkybeefstu, on 05/16/2009, -10/+161They also told me that his stoner audience would only laugh when Stewart bashed Republicans!
What gives? - irfanmp, on 05/15/2009, -4/+121Canadian mirror: http://watch.thecomedynetwork.ca/the-daily-show-wi ...
- lazycat, on 05/15/2009, -11/+125"Now what am I gonna do with all this frames?" - I love this guy!
- darthjure, on 05/16/2009, -4/+86"Don't ask" makes sense. My employer can't legally ask my sexual orientation.
"Don't tell" may be good advice, but shouldn't be required. If a person decides to make their sexual orientation known, I guess that's up to them. - dlan4327, on 05/16/2009, -3/+76You understand... He is Gay.
- wjappe, on 05/15/2009, -10/+79Like the government's version of the child abuse syndrome. It was okay for the previous administration to do it so not only are we not going to stop we will deny that that previous administration did anything wrong. And it goes on and on.
Wasn't O going to set things right? Is he ever going to do whats right??
It makes us safer? By pissing off everyone there and destroying our reputation? And not really getting information doing it. - Stavrosian, on 05/16/2009, -3/+69The last episode I saw of The Daily Show featured a lengthy criticism of Nancy Pelosi, including a scornful breakdown of her trying to weasel her way out of having known about advanced interrogation techniques, followed by a segment slating everybody who spent time criticising the beauty queen who said that she was against gay marriage.
I suspect that the people who rant and rave about TDS don't ever watch it to find out how wrong they are. - o76923, on 05/16/2009, -2/+62The daily show is anti-stupid government. That's anti-both parties.
- teddtech, on 05/16/2009, -7/+65That's change you can believe in!
Ummm, unless you are gay... - Mithradates, on 05/15/2009, -11/+59Correct me if I'm wrong (can't remember where I read this), but I was under the impression that the reason Obama isn't revoking the policy is because the only executive authority he has is to simply revoke this one and thus bring back the previous (and worse) policy, and that Congress is the only body that is capable of passing a new one.
- sageerrant, on 05/16/2009, -1/+42He could make recommendations.
They shouldn't count for much, but they really do. The President has become an awfully powerful figure. - Dustin00, on 05/16/2009, -2/+41Because we spent tons of money training them and I want my money's worth, dammit.
Because we partner with other countries that do allow gays to openly serve in the military so it makes for very awkward environments. Which also means the "experiment" has been going on for YEARS and mature adults can still behave like adults when told to.
Because it is undignified to inquire about somebody's intimate bedroom life when we are asking if they wish to risk their lives to protect their country.
Because they are fighting to protect individual liberty, and they deserve to maintain theirs when they do so.
Because the policy is "DON'T ASK, don't tell" and the military keeps investigating allegations, which WOULD BE ASKING. - ThugThrasher, on 05/16/2009, -0/+38Stewart has already criticized this administration (both the liberal White House and liberal Congress) on many occasions. Sure, he's hit Republicans a lot more, but doesn't mean he's "in the tank for Obama." It just means it's easier to make fun of Republicans, especially if you are tailoring your jokes to the younger crowd. If the show is still around in 2 or 3 years, he'll be making fun of liberals a LOT more (as they will have been in power longer).
Now, that doesn't mean that when he is being serious he is going to be conservative. He is definitely more liberal and his serious moments will always reflect that. - Shakermaker, on 05/16/2009, -4/+41"...these..."
- staticfire, on 05/16/2009, -11/+45As always, Republicans eat their words.
- jftitan, on 05/16/2009, -0/+34So after I volunteer, and serve two tours of duty, I'm ready to leave... but thanks to Stop Loss, I'm not allowed to leave. I'm not allowed any rights to leave because the Military can't afford to lose bodies to throw at the enemy.
But if a Gay person comes out, who WANTs to serve in the military, and serve in a long life career through the military CANT, and is NOT allowed because the fear of some boogy man that is gay will hurt the military?
You are an idiot. (I'm just a internet user..) I wish I could beat you with a gay stick! - boshhead, on 05/16/2009, -4/+35Dan Choi on Rachel Maddow: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldSyh9Zisdk#t=1m47s
- eramos, on 05/16/2009, -4/+33Yeah Obama has no power over the military. You'd need the commander-in-chief to do something like that. I wonder where that guy is hiding.
- chunkybeefstu, on 05/16/2009, -2/+30You just compared being gay to being mentally retarded. What a douche.
Being mentally retarded (depending on the condition) might interfere with your ability to be an army translator. Being homosexual does not impair your ability to translate.
The whole point of the video that it's a win-win for both sides, did you even watch it? Liberals get rid of the antiquated DADT and conservatives get more able-bodied men and women in the army (including translators, which we have a lack of). - rabidjester, on 05/16/2009, -12/+38Seriously, it's been 4 months and he hasn't won the wars, fixed the economy with his magic president's wand or paid off all my debt.
- Myalin, on 05/16/2009, -3/+28@ Jackson0909
You see, the first part of your comment, "Stewart is a left-wing moonbat who spews liberal rhetoric. He is definitely in the tank for Obama" seems to be a direct contradiction to the second part, "but that doesn't mean he won't criticize him on what is deemed a small issue given the problems we face today."
Is this that cognitive dissonance thing I keep hearing about that republicans seem to be having such a hard time with? You've somehow developed the ability to believe two contradictory ideas as if no such contradiction exists, just to reconcile your ideas about how reality should be. - mgraham80, on 05/16/2009, -2/+26The people that have never watched TDS give themselves away so quickly. LOL.
- fxu1989, on 05/16/2009, -5/+28Logic and reality have a liberal bias. Sorry to burst your bubble.
- boshhead, on 05/16/2009, -2/+21No, Obama was against prop8. http://www.sacbee.com/capitolandcalifornia/story/1 ...
Supporters of prop8 did use Obama's publicly stated position that he believes marriage is between "one man and one woman" -- but Obama did not campaign for prop8, he was against it. They didn't need Obama's permission to do this.
And prior to running for President, Obama supported marriage equality. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/01/13/obama-onc ... (And probably still does, but we need to do the work to make his public support of marriage equality as President possible.) - m3arvk, on 05/16/2009, -5/+24He's going back on his word a lot. He isn't doing the right thing about the torture; no one is being held accountable. Geitner's and his policies for fixing the banking industry are a joke. He's holding no one accountable for that either. He lectures on our unsustainable long term debt but he's spending way more than Bush did, which is saying a lot. For a change candidate he is acting an awful lot like a neo-conservative.
- choppa1890, on 05/16/2009, -0/+18Err...what about the fact he is an Arab linguist and got kicked out just because he was gay?
- frsrblch, on 05/16/2009, -1/+19Regional restriction on videos is ***** stupid.
- Nidy1, on 05/16/2009, -1/+19I completely agree akphidelt. It would cause seperation in the unit. It would almost be as mad as having blacks serve side by side with whites in the milita-
Oh *****.
Nevermind, carry on. - SpinningHead, on 05/16/2009, -3/+20How exactly does the president force legislation through congress. Note that those same republican congressmen bitching about the spending are bragging to their districts about the stimulus dollars they secured.
- kward711, on 05/16/2009, -3/+20so true!
- Gregus1032, on 05/16/2009, -0/+15and just because their gay it doesn't mean they will. gay guys aren't attracted to every guy they see. not to mention i bet even straight guys take a peek to.
- svendm, on 05/16/2009, -1/+15No, they would not change it to individual shower stalls.
There are already gay people in their showers. Always has been. And they might well sharing a shower
with an openly gay NATO-ally solider already. And women in the military have had to share showers with the men, on occasion, as well.
WTF do you think would happen? It's just nudity. Get over it. - ratnacage, on 05/16/2009, -1/+15Media is just the fourth branch of the government.
- badfish0116, on 05/16/2009, -0/+14Funny how his executive authority extends to your phone and giving retro active immunity to people who broke the law..
- roostersheep, on 05/16/2009, -4/+18No, that was your mom. Thanks for the advice, dissurmom.
- senae, on 05/16/2009, -1/+15They're just anti-stupid. Government, media, the british, it doesn't matter to Jon.
- dradik, on 05/16/2009, -1/+14He wrote a hand letter letter to that soldier saying he disagrees with Don't ask don't tell. He said he would take the legal means to resolve this issue. By passing it through congress.
- RockSlice, on 05/16/2009, -2/+15FYI: HR 1283 ( http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h111 ... ) would repeal DADT. Let your representatives know that it's time!
- cesig, on 05/16/2009, -1/+14I don't know the shower situation, but one would think that if they're able to cope with getting shot at every day they can find a way to shower with a dude that sneaks a look at their wang.
- Diced, on 05/16/2009, -2/+15Obama's response on the firings - http://thinkprogress.org/2009/05/08/obama-dont-ask ...
- senae, on 05/16/2009, -0/+13Actually he's talked at length about how the bailout might not be the best way to solve anything. Both before and after.
- SirBruce, on 05/16/2009, -0/+13Unfortunately, those same arguments were used for why black people shouldn't be allowed in the military, or in the same units as white people.
- StarlessKnight, on 05/16/2009, -2/+15The fact he's criticizing Obama too much to handle so you fall back to an ad hominem?
- inactive, on 05/16/2009, -7/+19Well if he can repeal this policy, he can reveal the old one as well
/facepalm
and i'm pretty sure the COMMANDER IN CHIEF has a little bit of say about this issue
lol @ obama drones XD - temporaryescape, on 05/16/2009, -2/+141) Jon has already criticized the Bush administration
2) The topic of this clip is stated
3) The Jon Stewart show airs on Comedy Central - roostersheep, on 05/16/2009, -3/+15Seems like when ever anyone comes into power they all operate under the same principals.
- Tollboi, on 05/16/2009, -1/+13"There is no rule saying that the military has to be "fair" in who they accept in the military."
So you admit it is wrong then. Guess there is no need to debate. - KnightMareInc, on 05/16/2009, -8/+19One of the funniest bits on the daily show in a while
