- mfc5200, on 05/23/2009, -6/+51Whatever, despite using different rhetoric, they both advocate the same policies. I've kept a list so far of what Obama has done.
dismiss court case against warantless wiretaps
increase troops to Afghanistan
keep combat troops in Iraq
increase military budget by 20 billion yearly
actively attempt to deny habeas corpus
re-instate military tribunals
begin prolonged detention on American soil
....Once again Americans were fooled into voting for mainstream stooges. Hopefully they will learn their lesson this time and vote for a real statesmen next time instead of a politician. An example being an independent like Jessure Ventura, Dennis Kucinich, Ron Paul, etc. I doubt it though. - cmf2071, on 05/23/2009, -6/+41You can always count on Jon Stewart to put things in prespective.

http://watch.thecomedynetwork.ca/the-daily-show-wi ... - DubYaSee, on 05/23/2009, -3/+26Cheney directing NORAD on 9/11... barking at underlings, when repeatedly warned of incoming aircraft toward the Pentagon... on and on. This guy's a piece of work, you've gotta admit. To have played such an active role in the attack of Sept. 11, 2001 and continue to thumb his nose at Americans with his continuous, nutso propaganda blather, shows unprecedented arrogance.
- DarthVolta, on 05/23/2009, -5/+21Ah, yes. You can always count on Cheney to present the false choice - grouping everything into either A or B, where A is completely right, and B will only lead to complete and utter destruction.
- inactive, on 05/23/2009, -1/+16Obama's speech was great, except for the part where he proposed holding people indefinitely without charges.
- picoscakz, on 05/23/2009, -2/+17Some old dude I work with told me the other day, the only news he watches is the daily show because all the news channels are full of garbage and hyped garbage. I was amazed and unaware that old people watched this, especially him because he is the grumpier type of old man.
- Apokalyps2547, on 05/22/2009, -2/+16More like
Cheney: "Only 9,000 Americans died from terrorism and the subsequent 'War on Terror' under us. Obama will totally be responsible for more."
Obama: "The last administration didn't do it right. I can do better." - realeiger, on 05/23/2009, -0/+13You mean like how he juxtaposes Bush and Obama speaches and shows how the rhetoric is often nearly identical? Yeah, that's some good pandering there.
- mikemx7f, on 05/23/2009, -1/+13You failed to see the whole part where he compared Obama to Bush, didn't you?
- mikemx7f, on 05/23/2009, -1/+13I liked the part where he showed Bush and Obama clips back-to-back.
- duncan91, on 05/22/2009, -0/+10Why can't people watch the videos in Canada, but I can watch them in the UK?
- Idiolect, on 05/23/2009, -2/+12If a student did what Obama's speechwriter did he or she would be plagiarizing!
- algaeturd, on 05/23/2009, -2/+109/11, 9/11, noun, verb, 9/11, 9/11, noun, adjective, verb, 9/11, 9/11, 9/11, 9/11, terror, 9/11, noun, verb, 9/11, 9/11, 911.
Seriously. Is this it for the republican playbook? The same old game, the same old fearmongering, the same old *****. I swear if Americans ever grown a pair of nuts, the republicans will be out in the cold completely. I guess fortunately for the republican party, most of their party is comprised of cowards who jump under the kitchen table every time a car backfires because they think it's the 'terrists' coming to get them because they hate their freedom. - uploadyours, on 05/23/2009, -0/+8Cause the comedy network bought the rights to showing the Daily Show in Canada. They're supposed to get all ad revenue and all that *****, so it's on their site
- YourNameHere1, on 05/23/2009, -0/+8I'm so sick of all of these comments that keep repeating the word "partisan" over and over.
You're either an ass or you're not an ass. Being the left buttocks is no different than being the right buttocks or the 'independent' taint.... and when you're an ass that pretends to be "non-partisan", then all of your policies wind up to be more center than either left or right and you end up looking like an ***** to everybody. - TheRedLemon, on 05/23/2009, -0/+7...shut the ***** up
- JoeMondo, on 05/23/2009, -1/+8Yes, Cheney was direct. Directly lying.
- jaymzdean, on 05/23/2009, -2/+9Yes, Ron Paul is a republican, with a little "r". He's also a Republican, with a big "R". But the Republican party is not republican anymore. That's why he doesn't fit in and that's why Kusicnich doesn't fit into his party - he's also a republican, but a Democrat.
To put it simply, the party's names mean nothing, it's principles that matter. Partisanship is for stupids, ignorants, and tyrants. - dsmx, on 05/23/2009, -1/+8make it all up?
- dreamache, on 05/23/2009, -10/+17Obama needs to hire a new speech writer.
- CanadianCheese, on 05/23/2009, -1/+7Mr. Cheney, is that you?
- scottk59, on 05/23/2009, -0/+6A summary implies that you are accurately condensing that which is being summed up rather than a whole bunch of ***** you pulled out of your ass.
As usual, you fail. - mikemx7f, on 05/23/2009, -0/+6You're funny.
- CunninLynguists, on 05/23/2009, -1/+6Obama didn't cover Bush, he sampled his speech.
- mparker21311, on 05/23/2009, -3/+8Anyone get the feeling that our government wants to keep us distracted? "Obama/Cheney go at it" what is this *****? Obama is not a real Democrat and Cheney is not a real Republican!
- GorfTron, on 05/23/2009, -0/+5Is he even over 45?
- jasonresno, on 05/23/2009, -5/+9Jon Stewart is the man.
- CVL4317, on 05/23/2009, -1/+5like the star wars characters.
- JoeMondo, on 05/23/2009, -0/+4Reality is partisan.

- YourNameHere1, on 05/23/2009, -1/+4"The trick is to use cowboy words in a lawyers voice."
- charlie55, on 05/23/2009, -1/+4they really do not disagree much, just obama is a better politician and cheney is just a dude who doesnt give a damn. and being a better politician does not make you a better leader, it means people listen and like you more.
- vprasad1, on 05/23/2009, -5/+7Cheney and Obama are related, right?
- shibbyo, on 05/23/2009, -5/+7Ron Paul is a republican.
- mfc5200, on 05/24/2009, -0/+2I'm not trying to compare his before and after..I'm just trying to compare what he's done versus what Cheney's advocated. They aren't that different.
Obama is just a great orator and people are apparently do stupid/gullible and just eat his words right up. They will criticize Cheney for saying something, and then simultaneously praise Obama for taking that action. It is ludicrous. - Delphium226, on 05/25/2009, -1/+3@ami6htywind
Let me put it to you in terms you won't understand - your side ***** this country so badly, it's going to take a long time to fix. Wow, such nuances!! Went right over your head eh?
What took 8 years to ***** up sure as hell isn't going to be fixed overnight. Thankfully we have you lot to provide comic relief in the meantime!
(yeah, the cosying up to despots thing - I get what you mean)

http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb8/rationalme/ ... - bunk995, on 05/24/2009, -0/+2Is it me or does anyone else get the weird idea that perhaps The Weekly Standard is having their interns post this nonsense online?
Seriously, I know some hard headed people but the negative comments to this post in particular are retarded. I guess I'm just a paranoid, liberal, commie, pot smoking, un-American, obama fan boy, left winger, Ron Paul supporting, nut job since I have the audacity to disagree with Dick Cheney. - bunk995, on 05/24/2009, -0/+2Nice try, neocon. How about winning an argument based on substance AND NOT misleading attacks in an effort to marginalize the messege. I dare you. You will fail every single time; that is of course, if people are paying attention to what you are saying regardless of how much of a douche bag parrot you seem to be. Keep trying.
- psybermonkey, on 05/24/2009, -0/+2my dad watches both the daily show and colbert report, and he's a little over 45.
- kareemachan, on 05/23/2009, -0/+2No. Just....no.
- picoscakz, on 05/24/2009, -0/+2Yeah the guy I speak of is in his 60s.
- Pshiz, on 05/23/2009, -0/+2If you can't stomach Stewart, the human incarnation of God, or the best host the Academy Awards ever had, or will have, unless he hosts the show again, here's a summary:
1. Dick Cheney: We saved lives.
GOOD.
2. Barack Obama: So what?
EVIL.
3. alanocu: ^^
TROLL - kareemachan, on 05/23/2009, -1/+3You failed to see any of the video, didn't you?
- Delphium226, on 05/24/2009, -1/+3Yeah we get that you're too dumb to understand anything more complicated than 'Look a terrorist! ***** yourself!'.
We get that the you still support the failed policies that were responsible for not catching Bin Laden, for not finishing the job we started in Afghanistan (which has now resulted in the mess in Pakistan), for invading a country that had nothing to do with the war on terrorism.
What you don't get is that the majority of the population has realised that the failed policies you support are not the way forwards and voted accordingly. - dagnabbit, on 05/24/2009, -0/+1increase troops to Afghanistan (he campaigned on doing this)
keep combat troops in Iraq (he campaigned saying it would take 16 months to remove them. it's been 4)
increase military budget by 20 billion yearly (did he campaign on a message of cutting the military budget?)
It hasn't been all good (your other points), but you're not being fair or you weren't paying attention on the above. - JohnnySoftware, on 06/17/2009, -0/+1Yeah, here is a more rounded out explanation of that with some examples. In school, in our Logic class, they called this particular fallacy the False Dilemma.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_dilemma
Since we are faced with terrorists whose main means of communications is illogical (right?), we should learn their vocabulary so we can recognize when we are being nudged in dishonest way, which is probably not in our best interest - or when they are giving brain-washed zealot followers their marching orders. Nice to be able to interpret what they are and how much effort has been put into the rhetoric to manipulate the listener/reader.
If someone uses a lot of these fallacy things, then either: a) their argument is pretty threadbare of logic or facts, b) they want to manipulate someone really bad, c) they are really a sleazeball, or d) they have had far too much practice at this and it is now second nature to them.
If someone is not using any of these fallacy things to bring you around to their way of thinking and their facts are correct, then you should sit up and pay attention to them. If people would learn these and not use them but refute them, then we would be better groups of people when we work together. - babatikidido, on 05/23/2009, -0/+1No, one is presented as satire on a comedy network, the other is presented as news on a "news network".
- yoshiboy, on 05/23/2009, -0/+1No no, that was last year's edition.
This year, it's "Keep telling them it'll trickle down and then talk about abortion." -
