- Waiting2awake, on 10/11/2007, -5/+41 Good idea - but why stop with just Chaney? How about doing that for the entire government. Until they can show they can act like fiscally reasonable adults, then they don't deserve the purse strings.
Taxation without representation used to be enough to start a war, now it isn't even enough to turn off paris hilton. - wattznext, on 10/11/2007, -4/+28Jimmie Dean says ***** Cheney, his heart condition makes it impossible for Cheney to eat sausage
James Dean says nothing, smokes a cigarette, and stares coolly into space - insomniac8400, on 10/11/2007, -3/+23These people are losers. Lets not stop the war, lets stop the funding for the war. Lets not impeach cheney, lets just defund him. Why can't they ever take on important issues directly? Rahm Emanuel was on hardball and no matter what he side stepped the issue of impeachment and just said they want to defund him. So sad. Democrats are just throwing away a checkmate. Either impeach Cheney or join Cheney. It seems everyone wants to do the latter.
- wattznext, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9one theory is that the dem's dont want to impeach Cheney or Bush because they would rather leave them in office to continue to lie, cheat and screw up for the next year and a half. This makes the dem's chances of winning the '08 presidential election that much better.
A pretty ***** up way to govern if you ask me. - pintomp3, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9i understand the arguement, if cheney insists he's not part of the executive branch, stop paying him that salary. problem is, that money probably doesn't mean much to someone with his wealth and investments.
- spraguep, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Congress could do a lot of things, but they don't because they are part of the problem.
- davebg8r, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4From a conservative: Do it. Then grow balls and a spine and actually confront him.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Cut off his salary?!? LOL! He has Halliburton and oil companies funding him! Don't make him laugh.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5yeah, it's not like he could steal two elections or anything
- wattznext, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Way to go my friend.
What do you think the over under on number FBI/CIA watch lists this guy is now is? i'm going to say 5. Who wants the action? - MercedRocks, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5You cant just stop paying a guy his salary but, you could stop paying for things like travel, office expenditures, etc.
- Lister169, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I'm not part of the Executive branch and congress doesn't fund me or my staff, so, it only seems fair...
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Cheney doesn't survive on his piddly government salary and its quite likely he wouldn't even notice if congress stopped his checks. Cheney is fiercely wealthy is isn't going anywhere anytime soon. He doesn't even answer to the president- what makes anyone think he gives two ***** to Sunday what we or congress think. The only way to rid the world of these scumbags is via assassination- which I am certain they are fully prepared for any such attempt- otherwise they would be more careful- and clearly they are not- THEY DON'T GIVE A ***** and there's nothing we can do about it. The Democrats are now in control and they won't do anything about it- sure they "appear" to as window dressing to calm the public nerves, but they are not doing anything real to stop all the madness.
- mrswirl, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Screw his salary. The guy is a multi-millionaire from his Halliburton days so he definitly does not need the money.
Turn off the funding for his OFFICE however, and just see how fast he changes tunes. No travel expenditures, no staff salaries, no budgets for secret spy projects - zilch. Make him beg Congress for money if he's going to insist that his office is part of the legislative branch.
Also, kick his ass out of the executive mansion complex if he's not part of the executive branch - make him work out of the Capital building offices.
Others can play this little game too. - Run4ny, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Sure it will. You think he wants to pay for the staff's salary and travel/hotel/security/food for himself and entourage and all the other expenses out of his own pocket? I don't. Yes, he has millions but if I was a dick like Dick I would just resign and watch my Halliburton stocks continue to go up.
It's not relevant about whether or not he accepts it or whether or not it impacts him. What's relevant is that the American people, through Congress, is saying to this *****: "Look, bitch, we're not taking your ***** anymore. We're defunding your ass based on your own premises." - worldinmyeyes, on 10/11/2007, -4/+7Anyone still doubt Cheney is evil enough to help carry out 9/11? Or is it just a coincidence helped author "Project for the New American Century," calling for a new Pearl Harbor? The time to wake up? Now.
- oslointhesummer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Doesn't Cheney already have a *ton* of money in the bank, since all that Halliburton business? He *still* has connections. He'll get by just fine.
- Retsep, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Dick Cheney may be a lot of things, but poor isn't one of them. I don't think cutting off his lowly Vice President salary will have any impact on him whatsoever.
- MadNuke, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Did anyone else read this as "John Dean says stop ***** Dick Cheney".
Ah, whatever, I left my glasses downstairs. - Eilarais, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3@pintomp3
I don't see a single factual statement in this thread. Don't ridicule an opinion for being non-informative, it's not supposed to be.
Ridicule it for being a piss-poor argument. - kreneskyp, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2its not him that matters, its his staff. they arent nearly as well off as he is. JFYI, his office spends about 5 Million a year.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2"Either impeach Cheney or join Cheney." ---
I thought only Sith deal in absolutes. >.> - Balanced, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It's not about his paycheck. His paycheck is, in the grand scheme of things, negligible.
The idea is that since he's saying he's not part of the government, don't treat him as one... Which means no funding, no office space, no perks, etc. His office space, staff, etc. wuld be expensive to maintain, if even possible. - jonnyeuchre, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2As with most things in government, it the precedent, the history -- Cheney doesn't want people to read about him 100 years from now as the first VP evicted from the W House.
- jiganto, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The funding is to be cut off to his office, not just him. He is not going to fund the office out of his own pocket, not to mention it's illegal.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2John Dean is a political maladroit- this has no chance of happening whatsoever.
Not to say that I wouldn't like to see it happen, but it's asinine to even consider it happening. - BigKoala, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Good boy.
- NerdyNinja, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I think at this point, the only thing that will stop Cheney would be impeachment or an EMP blast to knock out his pacemaker. Even then, I feel like the dark side of the force would keep him alive or something.
"...same thing we do every night [George]... Try to take over the world!" - Kyderdog, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Why would Dean pee on liddys pants?
- bromac, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Except he can't fund the activites of the VP's Office privately. Like travel, office supplies, hookers and blow.
- jonnyeuchre, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1omg, that would be so hillariously sweet...
- Aadain, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1First, short of passing a law making it illegal for US troops to be present in Iraq (which would require troops and/or the President to actually be arrested by Congress), they cannot actually stop the war. Enough laws have been passed to allow the President to wage war without Congress's permission that he's the only one who can actually issue the order to pull the troops out. All they can do is screw with the funding of the war, with has been and always will be in the hands of Congress. It's sad, but Congress is pretty much held hostage by this mad man unless they are ready to literally wage war on the Executive branch.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2*****, cheney has all the halliburton revenue, how the hell is cutting his VP salary going to take away all that blood money
- pintomp3, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3nice rebuttal. your copious use of facts has swayed me.
- noobeffect, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1BYAAH!
Oh wait, that's another Dean. - hmmmok, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Really. Just put Liddy in the room and Dean would pee his pants!
- Fentekreel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1of course if we impeached over something other than a blow job where would our morals go?
- pcbdesignexpert, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Oh, they'll cut off Cheney's budget but they won't cut-off the Iraq war budget?
Vote RonPaul2008.com - sabach, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You're tearing me apart!!!
- mrswirl, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Screw his salary. The guy is a multi-millionaire from his Halliburton days so he definitly does not need the money.

Others can play this little game too. - TwwIX, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Sleep deprivation seems to be kicking in.
I just read "Jim Beam says stop ***** Dick Cheney" - Mortikhi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Arent they all millionaires many times over. Thats like taking 25 cents from my pocket. What do I care? What would they?
- insomniac8400, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It's a 4.5 million budget. I could see him dropping 7-8 million to preserve his legacy. He can easily afford it.
- pintomp3, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2careful. he's been known to shoot his own friends in the face. imagine what he'd do to a democrat.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Why can't you stop paying his salary??
- RussellZiskey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I love Maddow
- leontes, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1errr. no. It doesn't scan. Explain your twisted logic.
- Jagdwulfe, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1How about we go into Dean's background and find all the pork projects he has funded. I am sure we could have some fun exposing him.
- TherealObadiah, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2John Dean? Bwahahahahahahaha.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Thats not how you spell Cheney. Sorry but someone that high on the political ladder and you can't spell his name, yet want to be taken seriously when discussing politics?
Sorry, but i just had to voice my view which is probably shared by others. -
