- schlurp, on 10/12/2007, -9/+87"There were no Iraqi troops at the Saddam Hussein General Hospital when the Americans carried out their "rescue" and medical staff had unsuccessfully tried to hand over the wounded private to US forces prior to the raid."
So they didn't even just make stuff up. Those f*in posers didn't take her when the Iraqis wanted to hand her over so they could stage some retarded rescue mission for propaganda, endangering her and the hospital. What a bunch of asshats. - johndi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+67As soon as she recovered enough to speak to the press, basically she has always denied this. The people who claim that her jammed M4 is a "reliable" weapon are the same who claim she was fighting with it. She did mind quite a bit and was disgusted by the the Pentagon and Media circus. Here are a couple of stories from November 2003 in which she immediately came clean.

The Kryptonite story is all over the news... and it's not actually Kryptonite in the sense that it renders Superman helpless, but happens to contain the (near) same material breakdown as Kryptonie as detailed in Superman Returns. - Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -12/+63Just look at that man's face... his square jaw. A star football player leaving to defend his country. He was practically a poster boy for the US and its army... it's no wonder they played him up to be a hero.
No doubt he wore star-spangled boxers and could stop bullets mid-air with a firm salute. - mille716, on 10/12/2007, -0/+42I remember seeing her on Letterman and her saying pretty close to the same thing in the article.
- sblestman, on 10/12/2007, -14/+52Just more propaganda for those in the pentagon who believe the American people can't think for themselves.
- fooplex, on 10/12/2007, -13/+50She has never blamed the Pentagon for the stories. It was media hype, pure and simple. And she started telling her real story four years ago.
Old news. - GeneralFault, on 10/12/2007, -4/+38And her motivation for making herself out as a victim instead of a hero would be?...
- Paroparo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31Oupsie. I stand corrected then. My proverbial hat is off for this brave young lady.
- FaraFiro, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30an Iraqi doctor saved her.
- directedition, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24Confesses? She's been saying it for years!
- Netrilix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19therightside: Excuse me, but are you a ***** idiot? If your idea of patriotism is to be lied to by your leaders, and get no clear view of what is actually happening with this war, I don't want to be a part of the America you envision. Personally, I would like to know what's going on with a country "of the people, for the people, by the people".
- 1MaskedPenguin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20How does one confess something that they've already been saying for years?
- venicerocco, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22It's quite evident some can't think for themselves... I mean, they voted for these scumbags.
- elvinmonikay, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20The military also delayed Lynch's rescue a full day so they could prepare to videotape it apparently.
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=9814446
That is inexcusable if true. - RobN, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22"As soon as she recovered enough to speak to the press, basically she has always denied this."
Exactly. So why is this news today? Why the sensationalism today? Jessica Lynch isn't confessing to anything -- this is the same story she's told all along. The Pentagon doesn't need to confess to anything, either -- rumor was spread far and wide about what happened, and not long after she was rescued the truth was also spread far and wide. Just because some of you didn't pay attention to anything but the rumor doesn't mean this is news. - CannedMango, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20yes, it was reported that the iraqi doctors and nurses treated her very well and even made an attempt to turn her over to the Americans, but instead they staged a 'dramatic' rescue that would work better for PR purposes.
- PATSCRU, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15"And who confirmed SHE's not lying? Don't Digg me down until you think about it."
first off, i believe her. Second off, why would she lie about something that makes her heroism seem like a big lie? She went out on the longest limb to expose something she thought was more important than a false 'hero' label, such as the lives of her fellow servicemen and giving the american people the truth.....Way to go Lynch.
p.s. do you guys hear that? it's the sound of ***** hitting the fan. - NoSpaceForRent, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Pineapples into their baskets?
You're a silly guy. Pentagon putting their pineapples into their baskets? Of course they're gonna put them in baskets, how strange would they look walking around with pineapples all day. - Nowheredan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16@Zippo - if only that were the case, we'd have one less casualty of this war.
- ICSU, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12@therightside
"Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."
Hermann Göring - an0nymous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12WTF, Man? What exactly did she do to offend you?
- Gryffydd, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17"Just more propaganda for those in the pentagon who believe the American people can't think for themselves."
I'm not sure what to think about this comment. Let me get back to you once the Pentagon let's me know. - jaycliche, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11"Jessica Lynch knows all! God damn you liberals are so stupid."
No the Pentagon knows all. Hail Leader! Follow Leader or you are stupid.
(on a side note their was TONS of evidence that backs her up. there is TONS of times the pentagon and media have been caught in lies.)
Yet and still...ALL HAIL LEADER. - crawfishsoul, on 10/12/2007, -10/+20Timing is everything. Perhaps back then, her voice would not have been heard as loudly as it is being heard now. That was a different time, the nation still wanted this war to be the right thing to do. Now we all (for the most part) know better.
- an0nymous, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12I would argue that insisting on telling the truth despite considerable opposition is heroic.
- lateralus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11this is on par with outing a CIA agent.
The 40% that still support this war are living a bizarre lie. - GeneralFault, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Hey, if you call me a hero and want to give me money... And I immediately insist that I am not a hero and never have claimed that I am, but you still want to give me money... I'M TAKING IT! And so would you... No? liar.
- Depthfunction, on 10/12/2007, -14/+22Why do Jessica Lynch and the family of Pat Tillman hate America?
- jaycliche, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"How does one confess something that they've already been saying for years?"
You missed the memo. History was refreshed and you are supposed to forget that.... - rubicante, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10America is a militaristic society.
Propaganda is used to rally people behind a war.
Whether or not you agree with American society, propaganda is a necessary and effective tool in this respect. - GeneralFault, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"Its the media that hailed her as a hero first."
Really? And who told the media about the rescue and the [fake] details of said rescue? Bob Novak? - CogitatorX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7All of this Lynch business is old, old news. WTF? Why is it that all the people who told you there were no WMDs in Iraq, or that BushCo was manipulating intelligence, or that the Lynch rescue was a propaganda construct were ignored then and forgotten now? All of this was told to the American public years ago. This is only "news" to Bush sheep and people who don't pay attention.
Also, it should be stated that the Tillman brothers were both against the Iraq war, hated Bush and did things like start base libraries for their fellow soldiers to try to balance out the right wing propaganda fed to the military.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Tillman#Political_views - jaycliche, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6So you are only behind the troops when they are too stupid to look out for their own interests? You obviously don't back the troops and you are a bitch and a traitor.
- emfb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7From TIME magazine, November 17, 2003:
http://aolsvc.timeforkids.kol.aol.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1006147,00.html
"One BBC report dismissed the rescue operation as "one of the most stunning pieces of news management ever conceived." And so the uncertainty fluttered around her: Was she a hero or a pawn?
However many people are bothered by that question, Jessica Lynch is not among them. She knows she spent nine days in an Iraqi hospital with 10 broken bones, unable to move and leaking blood--and she has only praise for the Army and the soldiers who saved her. "The whole idea that the rescue was staged or the soldiers were shooting blanks, that's just obvious stuff," she says. "Why would you do that in the middle of a war? It's just crazy." She never claimed to have mowed down the attacking Iraqis; she never had the chance--her sand-clogged rifle wouldn't fire. She never said she'd been shot or stabbed, as early reports suggested; it was the doctors in Landstuhl, Germany..." - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Lucky you believe in after-death-retribution. I do not find solace in these thoughts. These men will never be convicted for their greedy crimes in this life. The biggest criminals on earth walk away free, after publicly enrichings themselves, literally killing trhee hundred thousands civilians and bringing a formerly respectable nation financially to it's knees with corruption and a failing war economy.
Cool, who would have thought that would happen in just 7 years time huh? No fiction writer could think this ***** up:) - nblsavage, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10@doomll I was wondering when we would hear "but, but Clinton!"
- CannedMango, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10fava beans and a nice chianti?
- TreeHuggerChick, on 10/12/2007, -9/+14I'm so disgusted with this whole administration at this point.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6She never was a hero to begin with. I've already said it a thousand times, how is she a hero? She was simply injured and now 'rescued.' While fellow soldiers fought and died, one mechanic (who was a horrible shot) actually killed 8 men at a mortar emplacement to save his platoon..nothing was heard about him except in the Army times and a 5 minute blip on 60 minutes.
- olenick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Soldiers should be rescuing American's from our own hospitals, given the rotten quality of care and the sky-high cost. As far as Jessica Lynch, I never remember her saying anything different than she's saying now: she didn't make up the original story -- she was in an Iraqi hospital; just not there as a POW. As for those who put her down for speaking up against the Bush machine she may not have the greatest sense of direction but she WAS a solider in a war-zone: neither the President or Cheney can say that.
- jaycliche, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7"I applaud her for taking a stand and telling us all what really happened, but it sucks that the forthcoming Tinfoil Hat Brigade will eventually jump in and start the Conspiracy Rumor Mill going again."
And the Blindfold and Earplug Brigade is here to take them on! - ISurfTooMuch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5And sad that all the U.S. media sees fit to report on are the escapades of Paris Hilton and who's the father of Anna Nicole Smith's baby. God forbid that we should get a little quality journalism in this country.
I'd trust the BBC and other British media more than CNN and that cesspool of television: Faux News.
And it's interesting that you made a direct threat toward British media for their reporting on this. Screw freedom of the press! If we don't like what you say, we'll just blow you up! Uh huh, about right, I guess. - SuperMoses, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9It's quite evident some can't think for themselves... just look at the first 3 replies to your comment.
- bennyboy371, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6You know if I send YouTube false copyright notices about your videos, they'd still be forced to take them down, and after a few they'd ban you. Its generally not a good idea to piss off the Digg community, we don't like our spam unless its sung about by the British.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Hey this sounds like that wag the dog thing when they invent heroes to make a war.
Oh wait that was based on historical facts... I guess history is repeating itself again in the usa:P - sh0k, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11So the pentagon put more American lives in danger (the rescuers), instead of taking her back calmly?
***** propaganda machine. - lateralus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Congress/Senate has changed hands. Things like this are actually getting play. If it were still a republican majority, Lynch/Tillman wouldn't get the light of day.
- CogitatorX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6When you're dead you're dead. I'd rather see some Earthly justice in the case of the Bush junta. In fact if Bush and his cronies walk away from this scott-free like Poppy Bush and the same players did from Iran Contra then it shows the USA is a crumbling empire with an apathetic population that doesn't deserve the freedom our ancestors won for us.
