- radicaldementia, on 05/21/2009, -0/+7I find it interesting how these people defend waterboarding by claiming that "we have to do what's necessary to get information as quickly as possible to protect the lives of Americans." If that's really their justification, then why stop with waterboarding? Why not simply go straight for more "enhanced" techniques, like castration, limb amputation, pulling teeth out, etc. I'd think they'd be much faster and more direct than waterboarding. Maybe bring in one terrorist and have him watch another terrorist set on fire, then tell him "we're gonna do that to you right now unless you tell us what we need to know", only takes a few minutes. Sounds inhumane, but why are you so worried about the welfare of terrorists who want to kill us?
The fact is waterboarding is torture, it may not be as gruesome or permanent as other forms (at least physically), but you are using a technique for the sole purpose of inflicting pain and trying to get information by threatening its use. That is torture. If America becomes a country that justifies torture, it is not a country I want to be a part of.
