- AAK15, on 03/02/2009, -27/+312No. Sure it's a good issue to fight for, but the Berlin Wall? Seriously? Are you high?
- Beveridge89, on 03/02/2009, -33/+304Hmm, I don't think you're ever going to convince anyone that Marijuana prohibition is as bad as the Berlin Wall.
- Dromeciomimus, on 03/02/2009, -18/+179Did you seriously just compare the fact that you can buy weed tax free off any random dude to the complete isolation of a country.
- DrShotgun, on 03/02/2009, -21/+138How the ***** do you equate drug prohibition with the Berlin Wall?
- hokie47, on 03/02/2009, -19/+118No
- strebalicious, on 03/02/2009, -11/+81Yes, because denying your right to get high is the same as oppressing the freedom of an entire country.
- jcmyers, on 03/02/2009, -18/+83Hell yeah, lets get it started, people! Open your wallets just a little bit, buy just a little less weed now (spend that money on advertising instead) so that you can smoke it legally later!
- badfishtoo, on 03/02/2009, -22/+79articles like this make a joke out of your cause
- inactive, on 03/02/2009, -20/+68Obama's all about change. I wanna see some god damn change!
- BMAnderson, on 03/02/2009, -5/+50thank you, i love weed, but really......berlin wall
- cyphin6, on 03/02/2009, -8/+51Ladies and Gentlemen the day is March 2nd, and here's your daily dose of legalize Marijuana article. Here at Digg the community is committed to ensuring you hear the same thing everyday but in a different way!
- eliotmat, on 03/02/2009, -1/+40Nahhhh.....There's no way someone named DeloreanDank with a marijuana leaf is high.
- TenaciousG86, on 03/02/2009, -2/+38Berlin Wall == Drug Prohibition
- MacEnvy, on 03/02/2009, -0/+35That's true, that is how you'd do it.
- jcrs, on 03/02/2009, -10/+42Sometimes, when I read comments on Digg, I lose a little faith in humanity. These posts, however, are showing me that there is some maturity on this site.
NORML should probably take that blog post down... - jcsoc, on 03/02/2009, -7/+36Marijuana prohibition is like the holocaust!
- AndrewDB, on 03/02/2009, -14/+38Is Marijuana Prohibition America’s ‘Berlin Wall’?
For ***** sake, no.
This is getting out of hand.
Buried for a completely inane and stupid comparison. - Hetman, on 03/02/2009, -5/+26I dunno if I would go that far. But the war on drug is causing a lot of humanitarian problems in Mexico. And we should try to do something about it. It has gotten out of control.
- wafflesomd, on 03/02/2009, -5/+24Were going to keep posting marijuana articles on digg until it is legalized.
- theremixtrack, on 03/02/2009, -10/+26I like weed.
- jmewhite1, on 03/03/2009, -1/+16Pres obama TEAR DOWN THIS WALL
- Frankyfan3, on 03/02/2009, -0/+15Nazi's Berlin Wall?
History FAIL!
http://www.berlinermauer.se/BerlinWall/bygg.htm
The Nazis did not put up the Berlin wall, they only contributed to the socioeconomic situation that the Russian's used to rationalize it. - ExplorerNation, on 03/02/2009, -3/+17I like how you took it upon yourself to decide where freedom ends. You have a high opinion of yourself.
- fyngyrz, on 03/02/2009, -0/+14Perhaps you should consider a compromise. 1/2 of your discretionary budget for advertising the end of this particular phase of prohibition, and 1/2 on putting hits out on babies.
- satanherself, on 03/02/2009, -2/+16All in all it's just another brick in the wall
- jessehadden, on 03/02/2009, -4/+16You don't think the Drug War is pretty much the same kind of thing, with the same kind of body count, and the same amount of society's resources wasted on total control (and for no apparent reason)?
The lack of a physical symbol is really the primary difference. - kakwakas, on 03/02/2009, -0/+12With a blog, apparently.
- tbrand86, on 03/02/2009, -9/+21I couldn't agree more with this article. I've preached forever that the main reason we will never legalize it federally is because America is too stubborn to ever admit they were THAT wrong about something.
- Topwolf, on 03/02/2009, -1/+13Freedom in one sense of the word is the exemption from external control. In a truly free society one would be able to do with his/her life what he or she willed. Within the confinement of democracy freedom is an abstract. Freedom always lies on the edge of facticity and is always ambiguous in nature. Freedom is not a right it is a subjective interpretation of what is right, it is truth with a small 't' never an absolute. It is therefore with great concern that is brought to light a very important issue in relevance to the legalization of marijuana which is being criminalized through a misguided interpretation of the law and an unwillingness to accept the freedoms which are inherent to all!
- wigren, on 03/02/2009, -3/+14Whats the difference between a magazine that glorifies weed and one that glorifies cars. Both are visual masturbation for their markets.
- Hetman, on 03/02/2009, -0/+11That is why we end the war on drugs all together. There are still people who can produce moonshine way cheaper than any liquor. How big of an industry has that been since prohabition ended?
- Frankyfan3, on 03/02/2009, -0/+11Grow your own = Felony
Possess scrungy dirt weed from murdering mexican cartels = Misdemeanor
who is benefiting by these statutes? - gemlarin, on 03/02/2009, -6/+16In the absence of correlation, invent one.
Berlin wall? Seriously? - Infidelcastr0, on 03/02/2009, -1/+10Since when does freedom != being able to do waht you want or control what goes into your own body?
You're a ***** idiot. - cadmiumpaint, on 03/02/2009, -17/+26Its highly offensive that the two are compared in any way. What a complete joke.
- Dubbsacc, on 03/02/2009, -0/+9What you did there....I saw it.
- Frankyfan3, on 03/02/2009, -3/+12Yes, nobody has suffered or died because of cannabis prohibition.

http://www.cato.org/raidmap/ - Grazzit, on 03/02/2009, -13/+22buried for idiotic comparison
- dexter411, on 03/02/2009, -2/+10But what will happen to hyperbole if we legalize marijuana???
- andersleet, on 03/02/2009, -3/+11FTA: the berlin wall came into the picture when the dope dog's handler started rambling on about how this dog was from a long line of über police dogs that were from east Germany. the author then stated " And now, my own little town had a new resident from the same police dog gene pool that serviced the two most brutal totalitarian regimes in the history of the mankind! "
basically it was a clever way of saying how bad prohibition is (rotting the country from the inside out), not a direct comparison such as "Pot prohibition is the worst thing to happen since the Berlin Wall".
off to smoke a bongload of purple haze, peace. - TheMachine1, on 03/02/2009, -7/+15The analogy is fine with me 136 to 200 people were killed trying to cross the Wall, 5000 made it across, presumably a much greater number wanted to cross. Thats probably comparable to the lives destroyed or restricted by aggressive prosecution of pot over the years.
But its also like comparing the Holocaust with some other crime people are just not going to accept the comparison. So I would have never promoted that comparison. - KSUdesigner, on 03/02/2009, -2/+10Stoners do act like adults, in fact I'd bet that the majority of smokers do. You will have vocal immature people in every group of society. The mature stoners just aren't that vocal about it because it's not exactly acceptable in society.
- JDoorjam, on 03/02/2009, -0/+8And I, turtles.
- MacEnvy, on 03/02/2009, -0/+8The Berlin Wall was built starting in 1961. There were no Nazis involved (well, there were probably former Nazis, but you know what I'm getting at).
- MCCULLAH, on 03/03/2009, -1/+9its offensive cause hes part berlin wall
- Jimmeeee, on 03/02/2009, -4/+12Came here to say this.
- sugarazor, on 03/02/2009, -8/+15Which is a huge reason why marijuana is still outlawed. When stoners start acting like adults and quit putting centerfolds of ***** buds in magazines, then some actual progress might get made.
- noino1966, on 03/02/2009, -1/+8
Leave us drunks out of this... - wigren, on 03/02/2009, -1/+8NORML is a lobbying organization. They over state the facts, like all others. The Berlin Wall link mostly comes from the dog. Prohibition is not as evil as the Berlin Wall. But it's not like the government is just telling people not to smoke marijuana. Their ruining lives and tearing families apart. Not to mention killing any chances some kids have at a higher education. Not as bad is still not OK.
- fyngyrz, on 03/02/2009, -0/+7Please don't smoke the turtles.
Thank you. -
