- kevinarth, on 10/12/2007, -12/+96They need to grill these idiots. I'm sick of the double-talk.
- ranumm, on 10/12/2007, -13/+81and to the world!
- littlebylittle, on 10/12/2007, -10/+76The nerve of that reporter to trip Snow up. Can't you see he's trying to lie here? Honestly!
- chrisk9, on 10/12/2007, -9/+63Looks like the Press is finally learning not to take the White House's words at face value.

- GWB - JupiterLander, on 10/12/2007, -8/+60"GW is a douchebag, but WE ARE STILL AT WAR. We need to quit all this infighting and ***** up some terrorists so my friends can come home."
If the hard questions are not asked like they were not in the lead up to Iraq, your friends are not coming home. - GoneSouth, on 10/12/2007, -5/+46"Sorry, I'm not trying to troll here, but why the ***** did the US vote him in again?"
Because to the average red-state yokel, opposition to abortion and gay marriage are more important issues than competent leadership, effective foreign policy, fiscal responsibility, and personal freedoms. - The_Wallbanger, on 10/12/2007, -5/+39I wish the press had that sort of tenacity in 2002 about Bush's Iraq/Al Qaeda claims.
Last night Frontline began a 4-part series on the relationship between the press and the administration from the run-up to war to the present. It's a great recap of the past 4 years, with exclusive interviews of major players.
Watch it here: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/newswar/view/ - CandidateZero, on 10/12/2007, -7/+38"And of course we can't forget the man of the hour: new press secretary Tony Snow -- Secret Service name, 'Snowjob.'"

Oh, what an apt nickname it turned out to be. - astrofire, on 10/12/2007, -15/+44"What does snow have to do with Iran"
I haven't seen the video on the site either, just bear with me.
-Snow is found in the Iranian mountains.
-In Afghanistan, terrorists hide in mountains.
-The military is in Afghanistan, so the military should be in Iran.
Problem solved, the upcoming war with Iran is now justified.
Just kidding, next time please don't comment unless you RTFA or at least understand the headline. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+37I would say the increased political power of religious conservatives was the worst thing to ever happen to this country, followed by the Bush administration..which happens to be supported by religious conservatives.
- knomevol, on 10/12/2007, -4/+32@ JupiterLanding
i haven't gone anywhere, but one thing is for certain - i ain't home either.
or, at least, i no longer recognize it.
why are the people of my nation throwing away, piece by piece, what is among the wisest of documents ever written by mankind: the Constitution of the United States of America.
the answer is there, people!

Hey, Press Corps! Listen up!

- Waiting2awake, on 10/12/2007, -5/+25 Seriously though, does anyone think this will make a difference? All this means is the usual warhawk type will start to claim that the newsmen are commie's in disguise, they hate america and are a bunch of hippie loving peace nik hippies....
Good to see them finally asking the tougher questions, but lets not foget that these are the same people that willingly went along with the last round of BS without so much as batting an eyelash. - david76, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21Best line from Snow: "It's not a transparent government."
Irony at its finest. - jebudas, on 10/12/2007, -6/+22@aagee
God gave Bush the clarity to kill 50,000 to 100,000 innocent people in Iraq?
Guess what? God loves Arab people too!
You live in fear, that's why you want to kill everything that scares you. If you had real faith, you'd be singing:
"Be not afraid" - morningmatters, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19Given the lack of MSM's coverage on how Bremer "lost" $12 Billion (Cash!) in Iraq, it's clear that mass media still wants to downplay it's own stupidity for supporting this war. Jon Stewart had to play up this story and he isn't even a "real" journalist. If any other government agency somehow lost $12 billion you would think FOX, CNN, etc. would jump all over the story non-stop for months.
- Fogdelune, on 10/12/2007, -7/+21First, Hussein was helping Al Queda, now, Iran is arming insurgents. Sounds like we have a pattern, here. The administration could at least be a little more creative and not use the same method. Even if it was the truth, it now will be the boy who called "wolf".
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17Agreed. They should have been asking these questions during the build up to the war and every day since then.
- toneii, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Funny watching all the people who think War is a valid solution as their heads explode with the news each day.
You were misled and stolen from and instead of owning up to that fact, you just keep blaming "libruls".
Your fantasy ended years ago and the world moved on. Have fun in your ever diminishing cult of denial. - seanieb, on 10/12/2007, -8/+19One of the comments by Raven on the page , I think it should be repeated here:
“It’s an opaque government. It’s not a transparent government”
To bad one of the reporters didn’t ask Tony to clarify which government he was referring to…. - Waiting2awake, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15 Not to burst your bubble, but you are already losing the battle in Iraq. In fact, many think it is already lost thanks to so much patriotic "my way or the highway" tripe that gets passed off as foreign policy.
I like the Idea of reigning in the military. They are to be used for defence, Iraq(Nor Iran for that matter) was any threat to you - the military shouldn't be there. To be against Iran for possibly helping their neighbours fight off an invading force makes as much sense as blaming the home owner for defending himself against a burgler. If the burgler wasn't there, no problem. If America wasn't in Iraq - same thing.
For turning into ainsolationist country however, I think will be a bit harder. First, you'd have to go bankrupt because of your foreign held debt - but other than that I think that there is a middle road where people can prosper without the killing and wars..
Trading with other countries is good. Invading other countries is bad. - jambox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12@antbing
"WE ARE STILL AT WAR"
Yeah, but with who? You tell me, I seriously don't know.
@aagee
"It is a world of survival, power and raw aggression."
That sort of thinking is precisely what got us in this mess in the first place. Besides, if they're completely unprincipled, as I think they are and you say they should be, why the ***** should we trust them? I don't sleep any better knowing we've basically got a bunch of mobsters in charge of the world. - lannybudd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11"During WWII America made tons of mistakes (mistakes are made during war time), but the people had one united voice of support for the goal."
This is only as seen through the filter of victory and time. Actually, there were many voices during the war, not all agreeing with the way the war was being conducted or the way it was to be ended.
In 1944 over 22 million Americans - about 46% of the electorate - voted against FDR in the middle of a real, declared war. - knomevol, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12# IbnDigg

I say stop defending america in other countries and start defending it here. if your so ***** worried about people lets get the homeless off the street, the starving some food, the unemployed jobs, and the socially downtroden more oppurtunities.
not kill middle eastern people and get involved in their centuries of problems and religious politics. - Waiting2awake, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10 And the winner of the botched lobotomy of the year goes to.......

Listen there are runaway brides happening. Our country depended on that runaway bride. Get a grip. - ColinCampbell, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13That's not the point that Henry was trying to make. Not that you're trying to counter the point, because the Administration's point of view is indefensible. Saying that the Iranian government is complicit with attacks on American forces in Iraq because al Sadr reportedly went there is a huge leap of judgment and reason.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Tomorrow North Korea will be arming Iran.
- kurtwinter, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Why do ***** need to needlessly put curse words in their posts? Why do people who want to bring the troops home to safety get called America-bashers by the right wing?
More to the point - DURING THE LAST TERRORIST ATTACK OUR BRAVE MILITARY DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO PROTECT THIS COUNTRY.
That's right, I said it. During 9/11 our military was powerless. The only people who did a damn weren't our soldiers, they were cops, firefighters and emt's who are getting the shaft in dubya's budget.
Hey Grizzwolf, you want to call people traitors? First of all, there is no state of war. War has to be declared by Congress, something that hasn't happened in more than sixty years. Secondly, Al-Queada is financially based and supported from SAUDI ARABIA. You know, the home of the terrorists who attacked us, at least most of them, the rest coming from Yemen. Iraq is an enemy of Saudi Arabia, so when dubya attacked Iraq he's the one who provided comfort and support to the enemy. - Cheysuli, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Grizzwolf, you're a goddamn fool. I say that as a military member currently in Iraq.
@Kurtwinter - Thank you for that comment. Its painful to hear, but its true. The heroes that day and the days that followed were the public servants who responded to the events. Not only those public servants, but all of the people of New York. - diggsIt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I hope to see all 4 parts of the series, before the President cuts funding to Public TV. Frontline is the best news program, hands down.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12I saw this yesterday on CSPAN but never thought it would make digg. This isnt anything new. Snow is a professional question dodger and bullsh1tter. Absolutely zero information came from him yesterday. The WH got a FOX nazi fake news correspondent to be their "spokesman". That has to make you wonder if the Muslim Terrorists aren't more honest than our own leaders.
Someone please tell me when it is time to storm the White House and drag these Traitors into the streets. - Waiting2awake, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8 WOW, that was nice buckaroo. See, in a democracy people talk. They exchange idea's. Those ideas do change things. I understand it is subtle and tough to see from your bomb shelter, but actually talking to others is a great way to understand each other...
When you grow up you'll get to talk to people too. - warox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6waiting2awake:
You seem to have a valid point, but in my opinion not the full picture. We don't need to consider military action against NK because NK can be isolated economically. Look at the recent news, we're seemingly close to NK's capitulation because of a possible food shortage. Iran, not so much because China and others need the oil. - jerbaker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7"Long live President Gore."
Re-elect Gore in '08. - Waiting2awake, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8@big
Please stop spreading lies. Iran never said they were going to wipe Israel off the made. Look at the contect before you let your fear take control. They were refering to it in the same way that the aparthied government in South Africa and the U.S.S.R have been "wiped from the map", it is a political thing regarding their treatment of the palistienians. That report was given to the west from Israeli intelligence, and yet somehow just "mistakenly" mistranslated it..
As for if Israel does what you suggest, then Russia will do the same to them. Nukes, are not real weapons to anyone with halfsense. Once the first one is launched, everyone will launch theirs just to be safe. - jaycliche, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6"Once Iran detonates the first thermonuclear weapon over a populated (probably Israeli, as they've promised) city, how many more should we allow before something is done."
Yeah, I remember this boogyman during the cold war. What do you think they think with most of the US forces around them...packed with nukes...nuke subs...nuke artillery...hmmm? BTW the "promise" was disproved and proven to be generated....you are living a lie.
"One thing is for certain: Israel will wipe Iran off the map before that can happen. They will use nuclear weapons. The world will have no say in the matter. "
And they can finally used what we sold them. - jaycliche, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6You and your ilk are the ones who created this situation. I don't want my friends to die either...and it's not a lack of patriotism that created this situation.
- GabrielS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Snow is just wrong here. He corners himself by making an argument that the White House hasn't made.
Yesterday wasn't a good press day for Tony Snow. - galore, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9Oh no. Iran has rifles. We have found the WMD!!!! Quick Invade !!!!! OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOG!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- sonofagunn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3He WAS a reporter. Now he IS a politician. Press secretaries are by their very nature some of the worst of the politicians. The parties rely on their press secretaries' smooth talking bs-ability to keep us from getting very angry.
- david76, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5You don't find that final comment by Snow at all ironic?
*shrugs*
BTW, I wonder how many arms used by the various insurgents are from the U.S. or U.S. arms dealers. - jaycliche, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5"Egads you guys are going to howl when Obama drops out of this race... "
What are you gonna say during the warcrimes trial? - kooft, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6"I find this whole post sort of bothersome. It honestly looks like there is a group of people who are rooting for America to be defeated in Iraq. I wish we weren't there like many others do, but I don't want our country defeated or defied by our enemies."
That's the problem, there doesn't happen to be any clearly defined enemies. We here vague terms like terrorism and Al Queda bandied about, but nothing definite to cling to.
What did we do when we went into Iraq? We took the MEK, an anti-Iranian terrorist organization (State Department designated), and instead of disbanding them we made them swear an oath to democracy and sent them into Iran. How the hell are you going to fight a war on terror and then turn around and support terrorism against another country?
I'm all for a justified military action, but the invasion of Iraq was _not_ justified (or legal for that matter). US intervention in Iran for the past 50+ years was _not_ justified either. The US should open up a dialog with Iran and settle any disputes diplomatically (the Iranians extended an olive branch in 2003 which was quickly rebuffed). By not seeking diplomacy, the US is seeking conflict and I do _not_ support any country that aggressively attacks other nations.
"I just wonder if there will ever be another war that gets unanimous support from Americans..."
I believe the invasion of Afghanistan was unanimously supported by Americans (myself included). The reason is because Afghanistan was justified. We were attacked by a group led by Bin Laden. The Taliban was 'harboring' Bin Laden and refused to turn him over, therefore our actions were justified. The invasion of Iraq was a hijacking of US sentiment following 9/11. Iraq was no threat to the US (heck we were bombing them almost daily anyway), they didn't have WMD's, and they weren't working on a nuclear program. So why invade? Because of the atrocities in Halabja? Why didn't the US do something then instead giving Saddam support?
"Because I am confident that when we all stand together (with hard work and sacrifice)... there isn't a country in existence that can defeat us..."
The Iraq war was, and continues to be, a slap in the face to all Americans that support justice and human rights. Who wants to see America defeated? I sure don't, but if US goes around violating international law, disregarding human rights, killing hundreds of thousands and falsifying evidence to justify more military escapades, then the US and America are no longer one and the same. - JigoroKano, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6They aren't lying about Iran so that they can invade them... yet.
They lie about Iran so that they can have someone to blame for their failures instead of themselves. - Methodius, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6@GrizzWolf: Congrats on writing the funniest thing I've read all week. I kept trying to attack the gaping holes in your argument, but I kept breaking down into hysterical laughter.
And honestly? It's not like Israel can't defend itself. Remember what happened last time it went to war? Against almost every other Middle Eastern nation?
"Bring their god back to life?" That's rich, I'm sure Muslims worldwide will be surprised to hear that their god is dead. -
