- VeryBoredNow, on 12/28/2007, -13/+84It says: "The allegations that he abused power are credible." You got to be kidding me, the allegations are crystal clear. Anyone, grade 8 and up can come up with enough facts that it was abused.
- fartbuttes, on 12/28/2007, -7/+51Wow, seeing a lot of negative comments here. If you don't think it will happen, don't digg the article and be on your way. The odds are stacked in the current administration's favor, but impeachment is not an impossible scenario: the facts are all there. The only reason it's improbable at this point is because of cowards like you nay-sayers who would rather sit around saying "oh that will never happen," allowing your country to be slowing taken over, your freedoms increasingly eroded. Idealistic outcome? Political maneuver? Maybe, but you're not helping!
- webkeeper, on 12/28/2007, -9/+35Wake the ***** up, people! Have we really become so jaded as a society that we will let DICK Cheney and (Wanna Be) King George ride into the sunset with fat pensions and Secret Service portection for life after the way they have actively perverted the very fabric of our nation?
The last paragraph form the piece:
"Holding hearings would put the evidence on the table, and the evidence - not politics - should determine the outcome. Even if the hearings do not lead to removal from office, putting these grievous abuses on the record is important for the sake of history. For an administration that has consistently skirted the Constitution and asserted that it is above the law, it is imperative for Congress to make clear that we do not accept this dangerous precedent. Our Founding Fathers provided Congress the power of impeachment for just this reason, and we must now at least consider using it."
SO much more important than whether or not Evil Dick or the sock puppet whose ass he has his hand up are removed from office (we can only hope and pray) is that future generations need to have a record of at least some of their abuses. They also need to know that we did not stand idly by and just let this ***** happen.
In the '80s I was a student in Germany. There I met some of the saddest and most ashamed people I've ever met in life. People who were adults and stood by while the Reich rose to power and did nothing about it. Do you really want to explain to your grandchildren that you had no problem with the twisting of our Constituion and basic human decency that these criminals have put us through for the last seven years?
They weren't so bad, at least the planes arrived on time. Oh, that's right, the ***** can't even get that straight. - jordanfrank, on 12/28/2007, -7/+25you know you live in a facist state when:
a) a newspaper is considered to be "courageous" for printing an editorial written by a senator.
... - Spoomeister, on 12/28/2007, -2/+15Starts with "C" , ends in "ongress" .
Opposite of "progress". - inactive, on 12/28/2007, -11/+23The momentum is most definitely there, I'm not so sure what the hold up is.
- vault, on 12/28/2007, -3/+12actorboy, Pelosi has even said it's off the table. The Democrats ran on the promise of "no more blank checks for Bush" and that's exactly what they've done since holding a majority. The actual leadership of the Democratic party and the various grassroots movements are at cross purposes.
Feel free to digg me down as a warmongering neocon fascist shill, but think about what I've said here. The classic counterargument for this is the majority is razor-thin so how you can blame the Democrats for not being able to do anything. Well my response to that is don't deceive voters and promise something you can't deliver on, which is exactly what they did. - Spoomeister, on 12/28/2007, -11/+20Aaaaand cue war with Iran in 3...2...1...
- PalIkas, on 12/28/2007, -12/+21impeach!!!!!!!!!!!!
- NJScoundrel, on 12/28/2007, -2/+10Let Wexler know that you agree with him and join the other 148,000 people. Sign the damn petition!
www.wexlerwantshearings.com - throop77, on 12/28/2007, -0/+8"If the Dems cut funding the troops suffer"
That is complete crap. What, do you think they will stop feeding the troops? No, they will bring them home. There is plenty of money already in the pipeline. The dems are equally responsible now that they had their chance to do something and did nothing. - jtq1, on 12/28/2007, -9/+15finally, something redeeming about philadelphia in the news. i can now say i'm proud to live in the suburbs of this city.
- bbqsalad, on 12/28/2007, -1/+6What is made-up? Your comment does not make any sense.
- taotehue, on 12/28/2007, -0/+5using the "words talking heads on the right" and "logic and facts" in the same sentence is nonfactual.
- GSnake, on 12/28/2007, -2/+7FYI: Reps. Wexler's email address is at the foot of that article, I emailed him words of encouragement, and if you have any interest in seeing these types of things move in a legitimate fashion, I would suggest you do the same. Remember, these representatives are just that, they represent you, and if you email/contact them and lend words of encouragement, it will likely empower them to do even more. You don't even need to write a letter anymore, it takes about 30 seconds to send an email.
The only inhibitor to action, is inaction. - janeuner, on 12/28/2007, -2/+7The facts aren't there. However, there is a quite a bit of circumstantial evidence that would lead a casual observer to believe that criminal activity has taken place. The White House refuses to produce evidence to the contrary. Therefore, the only mechanism available is impeachment.
- inactive, on 12/28/2007, -2/+6Inquirer, dick. It's the main paper here in Philly.
- robojerk, on 12/28/2007, -2/+6How about adding that some of the democratic presidential nominees like those new presidential powers and would like them for themselves and not be blamed for having them.
- carld717, on 12/28/2007, -13/+17Don't worry about the nuances. It's taking the first step to impeach Cheney. Just get other Members of the House to sign on, build popular support and counterpunch right wing talk radio.
- nesibus, on 12/28/2007, -9/+13god.....every day I get on digg to see what type of educated, informative material I will see on the front page...and every week or so... a title like "Impeach Bush now!" shows up....duh...we get it, they need to be out of office, but repeating the same childish phrase over and over ain't doing jack.
I'd rather see a real article that is entertaining or informative get to the front page, not the same ol song and dance about this administration. - SOULEVENT, on 12/28/2007, -9/+13The people that continue to support this disgrace of an adminstration can be likened to the kind of people who would hire a known pedophile to babysit their children, then blame their children for being molested. You're kind are a disgrace to this nation and the world. I thought you were supposed to be the party with all the Christians? I'd suggest you read your Bibles, not just the parts where you try and show worship to the "beast". You people have let fake Republicans, Democrats, Patriots and Christians turn you into warmongering, moneyworshipping, Propaganda loving fascists. Maybe I'm putting this a bit harshly, let me try again...WAKE UP *****!!!
- sarahdinzy, on 12/28/2007, -1/+5So you are admitting that you have no common sense?
- Herostratus, on 12/28/2007, -3/+7Get on with it already. *****. You are wasting so much time just talking. Go kick a congressman in the ass. Get this thing rolling.
- reedatschool, on 12/28/2007, -0/+3The only reason they wouldn't hold-up is because this administration has already shredded all the evidence. Covering up the truth is good enough for a public execution IMHO.
- slaizer, on 12/29/2007, -0/+3You REALLY think Bush is the mastermind behind all the corruption, lies, pissing on human rights and the country slipping towards soft fascism and world domineering through force? A man who can't put 3 words together without ***** up one of them? Bush is an "useful idiot" for the powers that be. A tool. Nothing more.
Cheney in the other hand has proven himself to be capable of orchestrating mass corruption, wars and such. If he isn't THE mastermind of the Neo-Cons, he sure is one of them. You really want that guy in charge instead? - janeuner, on 12/28/2007, -2/+5We've already been waiting three. No.
- molecool, on 12/28/2007, -0/+3One action does not exclude the other - perhaps he's an activist by day and digger by night ;-)
- 5urr3al5am, on 12/28/2007, -0/+2nonsequitor: another tired liberal beating their same old drum singing their tired-ass song
- tylerelliott, on 12/28/2007, -0/+2yes, but the point of impeaching cheney is cause when they try and impeach bush, someone just as bad won't take over
- kenedamick, on 12/28/2007, -0/+2That was ***** hilarious. Intentional rousing noted and appreciated.
- mal1964, on 12/28/2007, -3/+5I don't like this idea; "Holding hearings would put the evidence on the table"
- MacParrot, on 12/28/2007, -0/+2No, just a joke. I knew this guy who could be an ass on occasion and the three things that would piss him off would be to say anything good about South Africa (this was during apartheid), say anything bad about the Dallas Cowboys (go figure), or anything bad about Delaware. So I used to tell him that Delaware was a suburb of Philly. The parent comment made me think of it and there we are.
- GhostyBoy, on 12/28/2007, -0/+2Yeah, okay. Let's wait for the media outlets that helped get us into this mess in the first place to bail us out.
- lhbaker, on 12/28/2007, -4/+6Top tier? It didn't take long for you to pick up the Fox terminology, did it?
- mobilexile, on 12/28/2007, -8/+10Clinton's impeachment was a complete waste of time. Had it been worthy of our attention or the effort that went into it, something good would have come from the mess.
Proposed impeachment of Cheney is different. There has been clear, unmistakable abuse of power on several fronts. Going through the motions and impeaching him would take him to task for his actions and make future leaders of this country think twice before making such foolish decisions.
I say impeach then hang him from the same gallows Saddam met. - MrCobaltBlue, on 12/29/2007, -0/+2Kittens give Cheney Gas.
- paulievox, on 12/28/2007, -0/+2dugg down as inaccurate. they're congressmen, not senators! sheesh! and the house of reps is still one of our two branches of legislative body! they certainly have power.
- bbqsalad, on 12/28/2007, -1/+3So stop visiting the site? Nobody is forcing you to check Digg.
- mindboggled, on 12/28/2007, -3/+5"Propaganda loving fascists"
This comment from a guy who only submits 9/11 conspiracy stories or anti Bush/religion/conservative hatred.
Nice tinfoil hat, you hypocritical moron. - hendrixlives64, on 12/28/2007, -1/+2yeah philly!
- nonsequitor, on 12/28/2007, -3/+4The democrats have done a lot as a congress, Bush has been using his veto power a lot to nullify them and has been holding the troops hostage in Iraq. If the Dems cut funding the troops suffer. The corruption is obvious, no bid contract to Haliburton, 3900% increase in Dick Cheney's Haliburton stock options. Missing pets around 2600 Pennsylvania Ave. A losing war against a country which while not favorable to us also was not the immediate threat we were lead to believe. Bush and Cheney laugh at the world in contempt. They have stolen billions from the American People and funneled it into corporations that they and their friends own. Mission Accomplished!
- art42, on 12/28/2007, -0/+1Backpedal much?
- tsos2, on 12/28/2007, -0/+1Then leave....
- inactive, on 12/28/2007, -0/+1Anyone who dugg this down really didn't read the whole thing.
- GhostyBoy, on 12/28/2007, -0/+1Cut them some slack, man. This is a very brave move for a mainstream paper, even if it is watered down for public consumption.
- lhbaker, on 12/28/2007, -2/+3Letting it go sets precedent. If they don't uphold the Constitution now, what's the point of having it at all? It is either the law of the land, or it isn't.
- MoClippa, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1I'll admit, theres a lot I don't know about the Plame case, so I won't pretend to be a wizard about it. But you avoided everything else I mentioned, and you didn't present alternative information other then repeating the phrase "the facts" several times... then accusing me of only frequenting liberal websites. Now I'm more then open to you presenting information, which I'd be more then happy to go check out for myself... you don't even have to send me links ;) but just repeating "the facts" over and over again, doesn't mean you made a point... it just means you made an ass of yourself.
- tylerelliott, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1as far as the nation is concerned, Cheney is just as PERSONALLY responsible as our president.
- inactive, on 12/30/2007, -0/+1The fact that I repeated the facts was to help you realize that is all that matters when discussing law. There is no room to accuse someone of doing something without having any backing to your accusation. Where is the intelligence where they falsified intelligence about the war? Why have the demos not locked up cheney if he outrighted a CIA op? do you even know the story? all it is, is hot air trying to make the republos and this administration look bad. Valerie plame had a meaningless job with the cia. As far as the the soldiers actions in iraq???? i want to tell you to go f*** yourself, but i guess the liberal media has already done that for you....they want us to LOSE the war....please stop being prey to these media outlets and digg liberals. i think your smarter than this. where is the green light toward all these bad actions? are we fighting a war or a politically correct war? they are chopping heads off our people over there and you sit there and complain about torture? even without having any facts to support your cause....you are all heresay.....you know for a FACT, a FACT, that they are killing innocent people over there and they are kidnapping people and killing them its documented on videotape! and all you can do is sit there and complain about our vp, our troops, and our reason for being there based on ***** that the liberal media has been feeding you since bush got elected. once again, the media wants us to fail in iraq....how many positive stories have you heard of from over there? very little. yet al-qaida is killing pakistanis now, and we dont need to be there? come on, show some respect for the innocent people over there
- reedatschool, on 12/28/2007, -1/+2The real circus is the one going on in your head. I guess "they" won when it comes to your thoughts. For me it is clear, betraying the American trust, war of aggression, corporate favoritism, and blatant torture being used in complete disregard for the values of our country.
The political process made be screwed, but the truth to any discerning individual is as evident as the rising sun.
