- ForumDriv, on 03/17/2009, -0/+7Lou Dobbs is opposed to St. Patrick's Day. No really, he said on his show he doesn't want Americans celebrating their past links to other cultures, even Irish-Americans. One can take hyphenation too far, but hyphenation in moderation is just fine with me!
- Phylter, on 03/17/2009, -0/+6Got my second green card last week, the first one's only good for 2 years. So yeah, 2 years to be accepted as a migrant. And I was "fast" tracked because I married a citizen. The "process" started in October 2006. I shudder to think what the "slow" track is like...
- NoDrama, on 03/18/2009, -0/+3I haven't spent enough time elsewhere to be totally certain, but from what I know I'm very glad that I live in the USA -- immigrants abound, and that's fine with me. My principal regret is that the folks who got here well before my ancestors were so harsh in their treatment of the natives.

- gregnorc, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1I admire mexican immigrants more than I do some citizens. My parents recently had a house built... the contractors all hire legal workers (plus we're in PA, so it's not exactly a problem here like it is in AZ or Cali... I'm sure all our workers were documented) but the only that I noticed about them was they never seemed to stop working... sure there'd take their daily lunch break, but I don't remember ever seeing them standing around smoking or chit chatting, unlike some of the native born workers. Even when the rare crime occured on a worksite, it was usually ***** suburban teens looking to get their kicks from vandalism.
I'm all for immigration, maybe a little competition is what's needed. Now I'm not endorsing _illegal_ immigration, but I do think we should loosen the current restraints, since the only reason our lawmakers seem to give for keeping out skilled foreign workers is the color of their skin.
At least the 1st generation immigrants realize how good they have it, and are appreciative of the chance to work. And I have no doubts in a few generations they'll be goign off to university, just like my parents sent me off, even though my great grandparents came from italy with nothing but the clothes on their backs.
