They could make a similar video that would show how the Democrats want to raise our taxes and re-distribute wealth more than they've already done so.

    Both parties are a wash. Neither has a clue regarding the US Constitution and both will continue to erode civil liberties to the point that you'll need to scan your chip just to buy a loaf of bread. Where is Jefferson when we need him? More importantly, where is Patrick Henry??????????

    In essence, I am a Libertarian. I just feel that the financial state of a nation is far more important.

If you got rid of all government in the end the result would be some big corporation ruling it all with no democracy at all. You need a government to maintain competition and also protect those who fall below or close to the poverty line.

    Sweden's got a pretty big government structure. The thing is they don't think the main role of their govt is to wage war against remote countries. Its role is to take care of the people.

Iraq) that the current administration and Republican party have flaunted as legitimate foreign policy. Please do not conflate the two.

    Defense is not warmongering. Leading a nation into a war based on false pretences of non-existent danger is.

    However, I invite you to explain what is wrong about stating we would not sit idly by in the face of an Iranian attack on Israel, and what does that have to do with Bush Co. fear mongering concerning Iran? After all, don't all the Obama detractors love to point out his willingness to speak with Iranian leadership as some kind of character flaw?

    Open dialogue is not appeasement (as many have implicated) and it certainly isn't war mongering.

    I'm voting Democrat because my money doesn't belong to me, and should be used to provide "services" at the point of a gun.

    I'm voting Democrat because even though more people have died in combat under Democratic presidents, I just don't like THIS war.

    I'm voting Democrat because I believe we can end the problems caused by Big Government by increasing the size of government.

    I'm voting Democrat because I want government to take care of my health, regardless if the fact that government fails in all things not involving violence.

    I'm voting Democrat because I think everyone is entitled to $10 an hour, regardless of the quality, difficulty or value of their work.

    I guess that sums it up. This is in NO way an endorsement for the Republican party... both are a joke. Democracy is doomed to failure and cannot last.

In reality the republicans of late (read: Bush and co) have been the one of the most expensive, blood thirsty, anti-rights and anti-privacy administrations in US history; this is not the conservatism you want but it is the conservatism you have. As I see it in America today the Republican party is divided between "real" conservatives (in political science class they are actually called classical liberals, believe it or not) who believe in small government all the way around, neo-liberals, who make up the majority of the party and play lip-service to the "real" conservative ideas, but are more interested in subsidies for the big businesses and tax cuts for the rich, benefiting themselves and their fat-cat friends, and finally there are the neo-conservatives, they are neo-liberals that think that God is leading them somewhere, usually to war. Right now the neo-conservatives have sway because, although not the largest voting block, the fundamentalist christian voting block has maintained the most power sine Bush Sr. because they are the most astonishingly consistent voters.

    To sum up: Sorry but your republican party does not exist.
  • Pritchard, on 06/11/2008, -3/+30Small government works. No government doesn't work. Government is meant to be powers delegated by the people, to the government. It is not supposed to be the government demanding from its citizens. Public servants should not hold so much authority.


    Big government could work, theoretically, if all the right people were in charge. If the people in charge were completely perfect, than nothing would ever go wrong. The government would provide for each and every individual's needs, writing perfect laws and regulation which filters only the negative qualities of society. The markets would never fall, for the right markets would always be invested in, and jobs would be easy to get, no matter your prior experience.


    There's several problems with this idea.

    First and foremost, the US Constitution was designed for small government, and most definitely not for the large number of states we have today. It was meant to change, even though that change was made to be difficult.

    Secondly, these perfect people are only theoretical. Such an idea could only be implemented in a dream scenario which exists only within the minds of science fiction enthusiasts. Many logical fallacies exist when it comes to implementing such an idea, considering that the implementation itself simply isn't possible. The system could origin from the public.

    Thirdly, even while the right people are in office, the problem with big government is that it's always run by power-hungry people looking for their 4 year revolutions. Once you leave office, the guy who takes your place has free-reign. You give these people the power to manage your life and someone will come along and destroy any amount of trust you had that the government would be careful as to how they run it.


    I disagree that the role of government is to take care of the people. That sounds like big government talk to me. Huge government talk. I see smaller, more local government to be the most efficient and trustworthy. The Federal Government, and even the State Government were determined to have limited powers. The Federal Government wasn't even supposed to touch the majority of topics they do today.

    State Government, being closer to the will of the public within a specific region, can safely hold more power. With advancements in technology and communication, however, I wouldn't mind seeing an overhaul of government giving City-State like power to local districts.

As a Libertarian I feel that neither major party comes even close to getting my vote and a vote for either will not get anything good accomplished. I don't know what' funnier to me, Republicans views on issues or that the Democrats think that they aren't entirely comparable to the party they rival.
    Two heads of the same coin. Both want a bigger government and less freedom.

    Edit: Damn I mean just from watching this video it's ludicrous that Democrats think they actually follow the Constitution as a party. This video is chalk-full of misrepresented views (not all that I agree with but maybe 50% that I do) and it does more to alienate me from the Dem party than it does to attract me toward them. Stupid stuff...
  • rolf, on 06/11/2008, -3/+29Both parties depend on you getting sick of the other over the course of several elections and turning to them. That way they are guaranteed to be in power eventually if they only have the "other side" to deal with.

    If a viable 3rd party were to show up, both team up and destroy the usurper. You see that in the slanted election laws and other things they legislated to make sure it stays a 2 party system.

    That is why Democrat/Republican hate or love is stupid, it makes you stop thinking and just become a mindless cheerleader for your party above all else.

Eg I've heard democrats described as "left" - in fact not really, in most other country they would still be a right-wing party

    Reason I am saying this is because it is quite possibly the most idiotic thing to say, and shows an ABSOLUTE lack of knowledge of what a socialist is - which kinda means you have no idea about politics and shouldn't be allowed to vote, frankly.

    what major school district in this nation is run by conservatives? by and large they're all run by liberals in major cities with liberal governments... classrooms have too many kids because of poor resource allocation, not evil republicans. the amount of money spent on bureaucracy due to LIBERAL policies are the noose around the necks of public schools

    hybrid cars are some of the most popular cars right now BECAUSE of the free market. general motors is shutting down an SUV plant in WI as we speak because nobody wants SUVs anymore. our democrat governor is now pissed at GM because they're leaving... previously seemingly content to have the only vehicles produced in WI to be major gas guzzlers because it was politically expedient, now he's ranting and raving about how we got screwed.

    i'm no republican, that's for damn sure... just like many of you diggers i'm a raging libertarian, and if you democrats really think you're going to run things in any better capacity than republicans, how come your most recent presidential hero left the world in the state he did when he left office?

    republicans and democrats are all *****, this video is just another example of how divided our country is and how SMUG opposing sides can be. at least we've all gotten another lesson about how liberals don't want to change minds, they just want to belittle those that they find less intelligent.
