- JBmtk, on 06/10/2008, -69/+514"So I can stay in Iraq longer"......"so I can go to Iran" -beautifully done.
- inactive, on 06/11/2008, -88/+381I made it through the first 3 minutes. Holy ***** are people ill informed. I guess it's always going to be a Republican vs. Democrat thing? They could make a similar video that would show how the Democrats want to raise our taxes and re-distribute wealth more than they've already done so.
Both parties are a wash. Neither has a clue regarding the US Constitution and both will continue to erode civil liberties to the point that you'll need to scan your chip just to buy a loaf of bread. Where is Jefferson when we need him? More importantly, where is Patrick Henry?????????? - gavinhudson, on 06/10/2008, -71/+294I was a little thrown by the title, but the video's amusing.
- unpolloloco, on 06/11/2008, -97/+282Since small stores flourished, all diseases were cured, no unsafe drugs were released, schools were perfect, under the clinton regime.
why I'm voting libertarian - democrats are just as bad as republicans. smaller government is the answer - studmuffnin, on 06/11/2008, -20/+166How dumb was I for thinking this might actually be a pro-republican article on digg
- cookiejmonster, on 06/11/2008, -39/+159While this is amusing, its also inflammatory. This represents Neo-conservatives, not conservatives.
- chester27, on 06/11/2008, -105/+215...My god, what total crap.
Both parties suck and ***** up the country in one way or another. I advocate for a smaller government, so that's the only reason I vote Republican - I am still completely for abortion, gay marriage, and other liberal ideals.
In essence, I am a Libertarian. I just feel that the financial state of a nation is far more important. - Grantismo, on 06/11/2008, -65/+164I'm voting Democrat, and we'll both end up with the same ***** up government.
- DjArcadian, on 06/11/2008, -10/+107Fine, if you're a Libertarian than vote Libertarian but don't buy the lie that Republicans support small government. Bush has created one of the largest governments in history.
- inactive, on 06/10/2008, -44/+134Oh if only it was in the no spin zone then it would all be true.
***** it, we'll do it live. - Taciturn, on 06/11/2008, -29/+113Youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiQJ9Xp0xxU - andersan, on 06/11/2008, -10/+87The neo-conservatives are running the republican party.
- Eslamicolt3, on 06/11/2008, -32/+97I'm a republican *prob voting dem because McCain is incompetent and Obama is a good guy. Lets just cross our fingers and hope to god he doesn't implement more social programs than FDR.
- BlackFred, on 06/11/2008, -12/+76The reason you were "thrown" by the title is that it almost appears to be a pro republican article and it was on digg.
- andersan, on 06/11/2008, -19/+80Which half the last fifteen and a half years were better for this country? Also, why has the size of our government ballooned to a monstrous politigasm of creamy ***** in the last seven?
Just sayin' ... - inactive, on 06/10/2008, -37/+87I'm voting republican!...and I'm gonna let neocons like jcm267 decide what propaganda is and tell me what should be buried!..
- blackjack75, on 06/11/2008, -32/+80Smaller government is the answer because you've gotten used to the idea that your government must suck. If you got rid of all government in the end the result would be some big corporation ruling it all with no democracy at all. You need a government to maintain competition and also protect those who fall below or close to the poverty line.
Sweden's got a pretty big government structure. The thing is they don't think the main role of their govt is to wage war against remote countries. Its role is to take care of the people. - cthellis, on 06/11/2008, -8/+53If they're for that... why are they never actually for that?
- EvansHall, on 06/11/2008, -11/+55Wait ... doesn't Obama support military action against Iran in defense of Israel?
- VinceNoir, on 06/11/2008, -7/+49Actually, it's done every day:
"I'm voting Democrat because I hate America"
"I'm voting Democrat because I support baby killers"
"I'm voting Democrat because I'm a liberal which is equivalent to satan worship"
"I'm voting Democrat because I'm a cheese eating surrender monkey"
ad nasueum.
Just go have a look at the Little Green Footballs site and that's pretty much all they've been saying since that dilhole's "conversion" to conservatism. - gethane, on 06/11/2008, -16/+57wait, so why would you vote republican? They've run up more debt in the last forty years BY FAR. Bush has destroyed our economy for years to come. Someone, someday, has to pay those bills.
Smaller gov't.. like the Homeland Security Dept?
I simply don't get it. - brbubba, on 06/11/2008, -29/+66That video was absurd. If Democrats actually practised half of what was implied in that video I would still be a Democrat instead of a LIbertarian. And don't forget who grabbed his ankles for big banking and repealed Glas-Steagall which is the cause of the current sub-prime mortgage crisis... yes, Bill Clinton.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 06/11/2008, -7/+42Acting in defense of Israel (meaning in the event of a military attack on Israel by Iran) is an entirely different issue from that of pre-emptive warfare (ie. Iraq) that the current administration and Republican party have flaunted as legitimate foreign policy. Please do not conflate the two.
Defense is not warmongering. Leading a nation into a war based on false pretences of non-existent danger is.
However, I invite you to explain what is wrong about stating we would not sit idly by in the face of an Iranian attack on Israel, and what does that have to do with Bush Co. fear mongering concerning Iran? After all, don't all the Obama detractors love to point out his willingness to speak with Iranian leadership as some kind of character flaw?
Open dialogue is not appeasement (as many have implicated) and it certainly isn't war mongering. - AbsurdParadox, on 06/11/2008, -119/+151I'm voting Democrat because I have no understanding of the free market and how regulation does not need to be a government function.
I'm voting Democrat because my money doesn't belong to me, and should be used to provide "services" at the point of a gun.
I'm voting Democrat because I want to end big business, and all of the things in my life that rely on it.
I'm voting Democrat because even though more people have died in combat under Democratic presidents, I just don't like THIS war.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe we can end the problems caused by Big Government by increasing the size of government.
I'm voting Democrat because I want government to take care of my health, regardless if the fact that government fails in all things not involving violence.
I'm voting Democrat because I think everyone is entitled to $10 an hour, regardless of the quality, difficulty or value of their work.
I guess that sums it up. This is in NO way an endorsement for the Republican party... both are a joke. Democracy is doomed to failure and cannot last.
The necessity of government is a MYTH. - turnthepage, on 06/11/2008, -48/+78Yayyyy for the welfare state!!
- Bith8654, on 06/11/2008, -6/+36That's funny...they sure as hell aren't showing it.
- cutchyacokov, on 06/11/2008, -2/+31In theory, that is the case. In reality the republicans of late (read: Bush and co) have been the one of the most expensive, blood thirsty, anti-rights and anti-privacy administrations in US history; this is not the conservatism you want but it is the conservatism you have. As I see it in America today the Republican party is divided between "real" conservatives (in political science class they are actually called classical liberals, believe it or not) who believe in small government all the way around, neo-liberals, who make up the majority of the party and play lip-service to the "real" conservative ideas, but are more interested in subsidies for the big businesses and tax cuts for the rich, benefiting themselves and their fat-cat friends, and finally there are the neo-conservatives, they are neo-liberals that think that God is leading them somewhere, usually to war. Right now the neo-conservatives have sway because, although not the largest voting block, the fundamentalist christian voting block has maintained the most power sine Bush Sr. because they are the most astonishingly consistent voters.
To sum up: Sorry but your republican party does not exist. - Pritchard, on 06/11/2008, -3/+30Small government works. No government doesn't work. Government is meant to be powers delegated by the people, to the government. It is not supposed to be the government demanding from its citizens. Public servants should not hold so much authority.
Big government could work, theoretically, if all the right people were in charge. If the people in charge were completely perfect, than nothing would ever go wrong. The government would provide for each and every individual's needs, writing perfect laws and regulation which filters only the negative qualities of society. The markets would never fall, for the right markets would always be invested in, and jobs would be easy to get, no matter your prior experience.
There's several problems with this idea.
First and foremost, the US Constitution was designed for small government, and most definitely not for the large number of states we have today. It was meant to change, even though that change was made to be difficult.
Secondly, these perfect people are only theoretical. Such an idea could only be implemented in a dream scenario which exists only within the minds of science fiction enthusiasts. Many logical fallacies exist when it comes to implementing such an idea, considering that the implementation itself simply isn't possible. The system could origin from the public.
Thirdly, even while the right people are in office, the problem with big government is that it's always run by power-hungry people looking for their 4 year revolutions. Once you leave office, the guy who takes your place has free-reign. You give these people the power to manage your life and someone will come along and destroy any amount of trust you had that the government would be careful as to how they run it.
I disagree that the role of government is to take care of the people. That sounds like big government talk to me. Huge government talk. I see smaller, more local government to be the most efficient and trustworthy. The Federal Government, and even the State Government were determined to have limited powers. The Federal Government wasn't even supposed to touch the majority of topics they do today.
State Government, being closer to the will of the public within a specific region, can safely hold more power. With advancements in technology and communication, however, I wouldn't mind seeing an overhaul of government giving City-State like power to local districts. - danconia, on 06/11/2008, -6/+33Why would you vote for either major party? As a Libertarian I feel that neither major party comes even close to getting my vote and a vote for either will not get anything good accomplished. I don't know what' funnier to me, Republicans views on issues or that the Democrats think that they aren't entirely comparable to the party they rival.
Two heads of the same coin. Both want a bigger government and less freedom.
Edit: Damn I mean just from watching this video it's ludicrous that Democrats think they actually follow the Constitution as a party. This video is chalk-full of misrepresented views (not all that I agree with but maybe 50% that I do) and it does more to alienate me from the Dem party than it does to attract me toward them. Stupid stuff... - rolf, on 06/11/2008, -3/+29Both parties depend on you getting sick of the other over the course of several elections and turning to them. That way they are guaranteed to be in power eventually if they only have the "other side" to deal with.
If a viable 3rd party were to show up, both team up and destroy the usurper. You see that in the slanted election laws and other things they legislated to make sure it stays a 2 party system.
That is why Democrat/Republican hate or love is stupid, it makes you stop thinking and just become a mindless cheerleader for your party above all else. - auto98, on 06/11/2008, -2/+28Zarchon - i hate to tell you this but you do know that if you are "on the left" in the USA, you would still be on the right in the vast majority of the world. Eg I've heard democrats described as "left" - in fact not really, in most other country they would still be a right-wing party
Reason I am saying this is because it is quite possibly the most idiotic thing to say, and shows an ABSOLUTE lack of knowledge of what a socialist is - which kinda means you have no idea about politics and shouldn't be allowed to vote, frankly. - 4d669, on 06/11/2008, -8/+31Obama said he'd do anything to disarm Iran at AIPAC days after getting the nomination. He also went to Bilderberg. We're ***** either way.
- erhanaltay, on 06/11/2008, -37/+60The internet seems to be rather anti-republican. But lets keep in mind that just because Bush and his cohorts are Republican doesn't mean all republicans are bad. Similarly, just because the current administration sucks doesn't mean the other big party will be any better.
Thats why you should all vote for the LIBERTARIAN PARTY! ;- ) - stark2051, on 06/11/2008, -0/+22Party affiliation isn't a gender, you can have your own beliefs and not associate yourself with those you disagree with. Your ideals and practices define you, not your party affiliation.
- DeePsix501, on 06/11/2008, -28/+50Sadly there are people who are going vote republican for these exact reason.
- koob, on 06/11/2008, -11/+33Being a republican is tough these days. In this election you're pretty much choosing between two democrats as far as I'm concerned.
- Dejital, on 06/11/2008, -3/+25Finally a comment from someone who understands.
- dylio, on 06/11/2008, -8/+30It is VERY biased. We here at digg chastise Fox News (justifiably) for being biased and distorted. This trailer is just as biased as Fox News is. C'mon guys, we can do better than this.
- blackjack75, on 06/11/2008, -6/+28"The necessity of government is a MYTH."
Actually to ensure no government you'd need .. a government. Otherwise trust me, the only thing you'd get is the most primitive form of government: rule of the strongest. - DavidtheMavin, on 11/11/2008, -122/+143Pretty hilarious and right on.
- unpolloloco, on 06/11/2008, -2/+23Hey shantitown, there is a reply button.
- Paal, on 06/11/2008, -3/+23okay, but seriously, this video is full of kindergarten arguments that have nothing to do with reality
does anybody seem to remember that it was RICHARD NIXON that created the EPA??
what major school district in this nation is run by conservatives? by and large they're all run by liberals in major cities with liberal governments... classrooms have too many kids because of poor resource allocation, not evil republicans. the amount of money spent on bureaucracy due to LIBERAL policies are the noose around the necks of public schools
hybrid cars are some of the most popular cars right now BECAUSE of the free market. general motors is shutting down an SUV plant in WI as we speak because nobody wants SUVs anymore. our democrat governor is now pissed at GM because they're leaving... previously seemingly content to have the only vehicles produced in WI to be major gas guzzlers because it was politically expedient, now he's ranting and raving about how we got screwed.
i'm no republican, that's for damn sure... just like many of you diggers i'm a raging libertarian, and if you democrats really think you're going to run things in any better capacity than republicans, how come your most recent presidential hero left the world in the state he did when he left office?
republicans and democrats are all *****, this video is just another example of how divided our country is and how SMUG opposing sides can be. at least we've all gotten another lesson about how liberals don't want to change minds, they just want to belittle those that they find less intelligent. - blackjack75, on 06/11/2008, -2/+22"I will do everything in my power to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, everything in my power to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon - everything,"
Nowadays a president has to say he'll defend Israel if Iran attacked, which the would all do anyways. The thing is Iran is probably never going to attack. Even if they had nuclear weapons they don't want to die as much as you'd like to think. - Muyoso, on 06/11/2008, -25/+45The video is amusing if you are an idiot, and can't see that everything they are saying is not even close to what a republican thinks. Its like saying that I am voting Democrat because I support child rape. Now could I somehow twist some convoluted connection between democrats and child rape, sure, but does that mean its a valid talking point to claim democrats support child rape?
- cleverhandle, on 06/11/2008, -2/+22GASP!
- trumpydumpy, on 06/10/2008, -25/+44You are talking about your comments posted to digg, right jcm?
- feckineejit, on 06/11/2008, -8/+26and the average con' will generalize and make insults because they have nothing of value to add to the discussion (propaganda doesn't count).
- ltethe, on 06/11/2008, -1/+18True, but it's easier to egg the local mayor's house then it is to throw rotten produce at the white house.
A local government is... More accountable so to speak. - xilduq, on 06/11/2008, -13/+30Dovetails very well with that slogan they had for a minute, "Change You Deserve!" They should've kept it I think.
- xilduq, on 06/11/2008, -19/+36what do your friends have to do with the video?
I wouldn't call it rude, I'd call it "fair and balanced" with "no agenda". Now where have I heard that before... -
