How to handle abortion if it becomes illegal!

- NikoKun, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1Making abortions illegal, would not stop abortions from happening. All it will do, is prevent legitimate doctors from preforming it.
Being faced with a 9 month lead-up to a life changing event, is TOO much for some people, and they wont allow that to happen in their lives unintentionally. SO now, thousands of women will take to the black market, and undergo an extremely dangerous procedure, in an unsanitary, and possibly lethal, location. Or they'll go to a country where it IS legal.
This is a morally questionable topic... But at the very least, public opinion is split 50/50 (ok maybe not, but there are a lot of people on both sides of the issue.) So with so many people who think it's ok, and so many people who don't... How can we criminalize abortions, and go against the public opinion of at least half the country??? With an issue such as this, the government has no business taking sides, or criminalizing one side or another.
This is not like the issue of murder, where pretty much EVERYONE would agree murder is bad... That issue will never change, the majority will always feel murder is bad. And the abortion issue probably wont change either... Which is why we need to keep it legal. If everyone was against it, I'd say ok fine... But that's not how it is... SO regardless of the law, some people will always try to do it.
Keeping it legal, means that it's safe, low risk, clean, and it will keep criminality and the underground out of the equation. People are better off this way, even if abortion remains a questionable issue. The benefits of keeping it legal, FAR outweigh the moralist's hatred of it.
