- whatthefu, on 09/17/2009, -0/+8Using phrases like "Axis of Evil" is retarded. The definition of evil seems to be that the country in question has to be oppressed by an autocratic ruler/group, but they must also have no business importance to major Western nations. We deal with tyrannical rulers all the time.
- idavidtang, on 09/17/2009, -1/+8Whatever Obama does, he should spend his Industrial Production Certificates carefully.
- frcc, on 09/17/2009, -4/+11He can start by dropping the neocon talking points of them being an axis of evil and end the wars we're already in.
- Aero347, on 09/17/2009, -0/+6I don't blame bush for using his judgment. It's just too bad he was so mentally retarded and shortsighted in his thinking. "Mission Accomplished?" He made it sound like he just won a football game. Childish.
- Crimeodial, on 09/17/2009, -0/+6Well...that added a lot to the conversation.
- Atario, on 09/17/2009, -0/+5Step 1: DON'T go on TV and call them "the axis of evil".
- Atario, on 09/17/2009, -0/+5When Clinton attempted to go after bin Laden, the Right accused him of trying to distract from the (incredibly important) Lewinsky matter. Remember? "Wag the dog" and all that? Yeah. Thanks for the "help", Righties.
- Aero347, on 09/17/2009, -0/+5Avoiding a fight is better than winning a fight, in economic and humanitarian terms. It leads to a strong position both morally and politically. That is as long as you carry a big stick =) Anyone can go into office and make war, it takes a real man to make peace.
- adml_shake, on 09/17/2009, -0/+4No, he talked AT them. Not the same thing.
- chevyorange, on 09/17/2009, -0/+3Idiot.
Just because we aspire to a higher level and wish to avoid conflict doesn’t take away our military option.
Does your toolbox only have a hammer in it? - lolerskate, on 09/17/2009, -1/+4How about not treatening to bomb the ***** out of everybody?
- Joest23, on 09/17/2009, -2/+5You're right. They aren't the ones forcing him to do that stuff. Directly, that is.
They're just the ones that caused such a massive ***** that he NEEDS to sign many of these things to try and dig us out of the massive hole Bush dug. Sure, I don't agree with the re-authorization of the Patriot Act, but I'll be damned if you blame the mess in Iraq and Afghanistan on Obama. You want to know why? Because Bush decided to half ass BOTH wars and his 'mistakes' cause the deaths of thousands of Americans and hundreds of thousands of deaths of people in countries that WE decided to destabilize. - abdullahishtiaq, on 09/17/2009, -2/+5negotiation is always the best
after they are not the the axis of evil.... - Joest23, on 09/17/2009, -2/+5Just as bad a Bush? I'm not an Obama fanboy (I want him to succeed with healthcare and such but I think he is weak and because he lied to special interest groups like gays) by any regards, but he is in no way just as bad as Bush. Remember 9/11? Remember how he said how he wouldn't use that for political motivation? Remember Katrina? Remember how he abandoned New Orleans? Remember the firing of attorneys, the whistle blowing of the CIA agents, the financial meltdown, the tax cuts, and the purple heart band aids? Obama is no where NEAR as bad as Bush.
- copypastry, on 09/17/2009, -0/+3Axis of Evil is so passé.
I hereby submit Bisector of Malevolence. - rblancarte, on 09/17/2009, -0/+3Bush's mistakes were just rushing so gung ho in the the mess we are in now. He followed faulty intelligence and when it said what he wanted to hear, he ignored the facts.
In the end, because he was so stupid and such a cowboy, he effectively went Ron Artest on a global scale and the end result was where we are now. And like Ron Artest who always carries the stigma of that night in Detroit, we currently wear the stigma of Iraq like a scarlet letter. - yocouchdigga, on 09/17/2009, -0/+3This needs to happen, immediately. The fact that we're still engaged in these conflicts, where 90% of the casualties have been civilians, is completely insane. It's OUR tax dollars killing these people... we're creating new (justified) reasons for these people, these children, to want the United States to fall. It still completely blows me away we're over there...
This unjust war needs to end and we need to do our best to make things right. - jorgio, on 09/17/2009, -6/+8If only there had been a democrat president in the 90's when the USS Cole and 1st bombing of the WTC, this would have been handled properly not just swept under the rug and blow up in our faces in early 2000's. Yaaa ***** bush its his fault.
- SkinnerBox, on 09/17/2009, -0/+2And that's why we're America and they're the third world.
- amabaie, on 09/17/2009, -4/+6I used to get tired of the Left tirelessly bashing Bush, as if they were on a different team (i.e.: as if he were not their president). Now the Right is doing the same thing to Obama. Sigh.
- SkinnerBox, on 09/17/2009, -0/+2My air strikes and naval bombardment from the UK will make short work of your infantry!
- yocouchdigga, on 09/17/2009, -0/+1The submitter's name's so fitting.
- rblancarte, on 09/17/2009, -0/+1In the end, Obama needs to make sure that other countries know that with our change in leadership, we are willing to at least talk before taking military action (during peace time). We should never be a country of shoot first ask questions later. In the end, because we have the position of being one of the global super powers, we need to understand that we are already hated by many because we are a world power. Combined with the fact that our freedoms (of religion, sexuality, gender, etc) put us at odds with a few religions, and especially governments that choose to run their countries based on these religions, we must tread lightly to respect their opposing views.
Sure, the prior administration did put us in a bad position, and has made us look bad to the rest of the world. But if we can approach with at least open hands and not fists or gun barrels, it give us a chance to restore our image as a world leader willing to negotiate with all countries. - Aero347, on 09/18/2009, -0/+1Last time I checked those two women knew they were entering North Korea illegally. I don't agree with arresting and imprisoning them but they should have used some common sense.
Iranians are free to leave their country if they don't agree with the farce democracy they live under.
We are not Team America World Police.
Furthermore, Imposing sanctions via the U.N. and then refusing to negotiate makes you look like a giant PRICK of a country. Those actions bolster sympathy for terrorist groups and makes it look like they had no choice but to fight against a country that prefers bullying over coming to agreeable terms for both parties.
Talking down to nations is what got us into this giant ***** storm, fighting a war on two fronts and economically weak. I love how some people think our priorities should be to invade a sovereign nation before we provide ample health care to our OWN citizens.
Solid, your reasoning is anything but. - chevyorange, on 09/17/2009, -0/+1Who cares what names people call us? Oh ***** it, let’s TEACH THEM! Let’s bomb ‘em!
- inactive, on 09/17/2009, -0/+1We can stop calling them the Axis of Evil all we want but they are STILL going to call us the Great Satan.
- lowjeep, on 09/17/2009, -0/+1@Jorgio HAHA I see what you did there. +1 for you.
- jorgio, on 09/18/2009, -0/+1-agreed
- richmomz, on 09/17/2009, -2/+1That's easy, just buy stacks of infantry.
- akchrs, on 09/17/2009, -3/+1Kinda brings a tear to your eye doesn't it.
- inactive, on 09/17/2009, -4/+2I'd be pretty angry if I voted for Obama to "change" things and then he didn't change anything because he said the people who didn't want him to change are causing "a massive *****" that renders him unable to change anything. The fact is Obama can pull back every troop from every country we are stationed in immediately. He can end the war on drugs immediately. Obama did not need to vote for the patriot act re authoriation, he did because he wanted to. There were other politicians who did not vote for it. Obama is just as bad as Bush in my eyes.
- inactive, on 09/17/2009, -3/+1How is not talking to someone akin to picking a fight?
Obama has rewarded North Korea for kidnapping our journalist and Iran for rigging the election and crushing its people by giving them a direct dialogue. We shouldn't give them one inch of legitimacy. - inactive, on 09/17/2009, -11/+8Oh yea, it's the Right that is forcing Obama to continue the war on Iraq and Afghanistan, It's the right that is forcing him to continue to prosecute medical cannabis dispensaries in California, It's the right that made Obama vote for the reauthorization of the Patriot Act, It's the right that causing him to continue having troops stationed in over 150 countries around the world, and it's the right that is making him continue the policies of Bush. It's not that the two parties are similar. the right is forcing Obama to follow their policies because they are mean. Gosh darnitt those mean right wingers!! Then they will pull the same bait and switch next election, elect a Republican who will "change" everything that people are angry about, but nothing will change. Wake up people we need a third party.
- richmomz, on 09/17/2009, -7/+3"Predictably enough, the Right seems intent on egging Obama into a crisis that defines his presidency..."
WHAT?! So now if Obama starts a war with Iran and sends more troops to Afghanistan and Iraq (in spite of his promises to do the exact opposite during the campaign) and gets a bunch of people killed it's going to be the "Right"'s fault?! What *****! - akchrs, on 09/17/2009, -5/+1"Polish PM wouldn't take U.S. calls"
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed today that he declined last night to take a call from the U.S. informing him of the decision to scrap planned missile-defense bases in his country.
http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0909/Polish ... - yugosakimi, on 09/17/2009, -7/+2With today's attitudes directed at things like "negotiation" and "diplomacy," no one's going to WANT to be president next time.
- inactive, on 09/17/2009, -6/+1He'll do EXACTLY what liberal Democrats always do...
....pander and appease. - scottsoperson, on 09/17/2009, -7/+2bush talked to iran.
- akchrs, on 09/17/2009, -8/+1Poland..... Hillary's on line 1.
Poland: Tell her to F off.
