Homosexuals Still Ruining America
blog.myspace.com — Oklahoma Rep. Jason Murphey supports Rep. Sally Kern's unfounded fear that the gays are terrorizing the American family. You're letting me down Oklahoma.

- fuzzybeard, on 04/07/2008, -0/+4It always seems to me that the more fervently someone is against something, the more likely it is that they actually do it in private.
- Midtowner, on 04/07/2008, -0/+4This guy cracks me up. Before you take him too seriously, know that prior to being an elected official, this guy had an "internet company" which was a part time job. His full time job was as a prison guard. He was home schooled in an extremely right-wing-nutso-religious home and is openly hostile to public education. Beyond that, he has no formal education, save an online degree from a marginal internet school. When we get these crazy people in Oklahoma making these embarrassing comments, many are often quick to condemn the backwater education those folks must have received.
I'm proud to say that in this particular case, the public schools of Oklahoma have nothing to do with this guy's education.- lisaawesome, on 04/08/2008, -0/+2Thanks for that information. I was wondering how this nutjob managed to grow up in the same area I did and get a completely different worldview. I guess Edmond Public Schools did do something good for me afterall. Also I think I might run against him when his seat comes up. I don't expect to do that well but I want someone to oppose him.
- fuzzybeard, on 04/09/2008, -0/+3Go for it!
- Midtowner, on 04/09/2008, -0/+4I'm all for it.. A friend of mine ran against him (and lost, obviously) during the last go-round. That friend of mine is an attorney. I can't fathom why a voter would choose a fake-degree-having inexperienced halfwit over someone who was a lawyer and even was endorsed by the former Republican occupant of that seat.
I think what Murphey excels at is communicating with his fellow poorly educated Christian fundamentalists -- the only folks that vote in Logan County because he's one of them.
Heck.. at least Sally Kern has a real degree.
- lisaawesome, on 04/09/2008, -0/+3I wish I had lived in the district during the last election so I would know more about it now. I think the key to winning against him would be to publicly expose him as a self serving halfwit. The lower portion of District 31 dips into North Edmond which is rapidly expanding outward to Waterloo and these are very well educated professionals moving into the district. The Oak Tree Country Club also happens to fall within District 31. This is a large population of people who would immediately see through Murphey's facade of intelligence. For the more rural part of the district I believe they would be more swayed by the fact that Murphey refuses to acknowledge a dissenting constituent. These people however are not total halfwits running successful ranches and farms and being entrepreneurs. I would play up the fact that Murphey is projecting the idea that all rural living folks are backwoods ill-educated yokels. Who wants to be represented by someone who only reinforces negative stereotypes. Even more this man obviously is resisting change while obviously the city is expanding northward. How is this expansion going to be properly managed and integrated when he refuses to look towards the future? He is clearly stuck in some insane time warp. I think I just hit most of my major points for the campaign. heh. I also don't have any fake degrees. lol
- Midtowner, on 04/10/2008, -0/+3If you choose to run, I'll even put my money where my mouth is and support you. It sounds like you're wanting to run for the right reasons. I don't know how much I'll be able to give, but by the time the next election roles around, God willing, I will finally be done with school.
District 31 is very much a door-knocking contest, and has generally favored incumbents. Murphey won the last contest by drumming up a strong Jeebus vote. Tom Cook (Democrat), his opponent in the last election, knocked on a lot of doors, but I think he fell short in the church department.
The margin wasn't that huge, and North Edmond is really expanding. The Edmond demographic doesn't have a great record of picking the best candidates either though... exhibit "A" is Clark Jolley who beat out David Miley in the primary. David had all kinds of experience, has been a brilliant public servant, and was far and away more qualified. Clark Jolley happens to attend LifeChurch, while Miley, I think is either a Methodist or a Lutheran, so again, there you have it.
It seems in that area, the key is mobilizing the religious community. It's going to be tough to run against the "Guns, Gays and God" sorts. Best of luck. - lisaawesome, on 04/10/2008, -0/+2I will keep you abreast of developments. I may not be able to get the big church vote but maybe I can get the "'I'm tired of being treated like a moron just because I live in the country" vote. Maybe I can even get the single young man who is attracted to smart strong single young ladies vote. lol. Now I'm just bein silly :D
- lisaawesome, on 04/10/2008, -0/+2Also I noticed you're a law student. I'm seriously considering going into environmental law with a focus on water rights. Good luck with your studies!
