Pelosi didn't request anything. It was the Air Force that raised the issue. The reason her and her staff would need a larger aircraft is because her district is in San Francisco, CA. The aircraft Hastert used couldn't make the trip without stopping to refuel. Considering Pelosi is a key government official (and near the top of Presidential succession) it's important she has access to a plane that can make the journey as quickly as possible.
In case you're not up on your geography Pelosi's district is in San Francisco and is roughly 2500 miles away from Washington DC. Dennis Hastert's district is near Chicago, IL. Chicago is roughly 600 miles from Washington DC. That's a difference of 1900 miles.
And now it's become apparent that Hastert did exactly what Pelosi has stated she wouldn't do. He used his taxpayer funded aircraft for political purposes. - Aurostion, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Not to mention that Pelosi has said she'll fly commercial instead.
