Yes... "Adolf Hitler signed a Directive 51 (Source: Brittanica.com) and here is Bush’s NSPD 51 (Source: The White House)."
"If President Bush will declare Martial Law, for the given reasons in NSPD 51, he will hold all power in his hands alone. He has to answer to no-one anymore. Presidential Directive 51 overrides everything."
"So both directives were issued to give the Dictator in charge absolute power!"
I call that FASCISM. - Hangly, on 08/03/2008, -2/+30Fascist in what sense?
Fascist in the economic sense where industry is coordinated by the state? Yes, since WWII.
Fascist in the philosophical sense of putting "holiness and heroism" above materialism and determinism? No.
Or do you mean fascist in the popular perception of the word with government surveillance of citizens, secret police, an aggressive foreign policy, and bands of hoodlums beating up opposition parties? In that case, sort of. - Patrikc325, on 08/03/2008, -1/+25Corporatism is the new Fascism.
- satirical, on 08/03/2008, -2/+23US certainly seems to be an oligarchy, er I mean a corporigarchy. Big Oil for President!
- Catspaw, on 08/03/2008, -2/+21Yes, it's really corrupt. The presidents are pre-selected, the voting machines rigged, the mainstream media's bought and paid for, laws are brought in without even being read first by Congress and good people like Jesse Ventura, fear to get into the presidential race because of the real threat of being assassinated...
- TheLittleWitch, on 08/03/2008, -1/+19No? The U.S murder an entire country:
”More than 1,820 tons (3-million, 640 thousand pounds) of radioactive nuclear waste uranium were exploded into Iraq alone in the form of armour piercing rounds and bunker busters, representing the worlds worst man made ecological disaster ever.
Well over 200,000 American soldiers could be killed by 2010, as a result of the after effects of exposure to U.S. dirty bombs.
Over One million U.S. soldiers have apparently been disabled from Depleted Uranium based biochemical exposure. Over one million Iraqis have also been documented to have been killed."
Source: The Canadian National Newspaper
It is the exposure to depleted uranium that is one of the major causes for so many diseased soldiers. Those soldiers have not been told about the dangers of depleted uranium. The U.S. is treating their soldiers like cannon fodder.
Iraq is destroyed utterly and totally for thousands of years.
There are so many great documentaries out there, so many books and you have missed them all?
The mass media, corporate media, is just brainwashing.
So I would compare Bush and Cheney to Hitler already, but this is an ongoing process. - Syrisgone, on 08/03/2008, -1/+19Yes.
- Hangly, on 08/03/2008, -1/+17Corporatism is the old Fascism, too.
- ordig, on 08/03/2008, -1/+16the Us is doing all of those things, (well not the jew thing, obviously) They are just mostly doing it in Iraq.
- Evilblobs, on 08/03/2008, -3/+16Well we arent Nazi Germany quite yet. But were well on our way.
And neither McCain nor Obama will not take us off that course. - inactive, on 08/03/2008, -1/+14I don't think jews is in the definition of facism. We don't know what they do in the camps we host world wide because they won't tell us and the media won't cover it. The people roughing people up wear blue shirts. Bush has embarked on a holocaust aimed at a religion and is following through with it and it has so far taken many hundreds of thousands of lives. Just when should we wake up?
- Hangly, on 08/03/2008, -0/+13Nothing less than control over a trillion dollar military and a multi-trillion dollar economy is at stake in the presidential election. You just don't leave the results of something so important up to chance, no matter what a bunch of cheese-eating civilians want.
- inactive, on 08/03/2008, -1/+13"Mein Führer" just means "My Leader". What is alarming is that "unitary executive" is a code word that is being used by the Bush Administration for a supreme power. Add to that the very words "Homeland Security" and anyone who has been sleeping since 9/11 and just woke up would think this is Nazi Germany.
From Wikipedia:

- mothermaggie, on 08/03/2008, -0/+11It's not too late to stop the transformation, but neither the Democrats of Republicans are looking to change the satus quo (why would they, they have all the power now?). Maybe we should take a serious look at some 3rd party candidates. Shameless plug: I like Bob Barr (bobbarr2008.com) but I like people thinking for themselves even better, so do some research before you cast your vote.
Maybe we can have the revolution (not a Ron Paul plug) at the ballot box so we don't have to take up arms and have it in the streets. - inactive, on 08/03/2008, -1/+11FTA: Recalling Hitler’s boast, “Democracy will be overthrown with the tools of democracy."

10 signs that the End of Democracy is near:
http://futurenewstoday.blogspot.com/2008/07/martia ...
The most damning sign is the mass detention of hundreds of "illegal aliens" at an Iowa meatpacking plant. This is exactly how a roundup of dissidents would be carried out. And don't think it can't happen to you. Are you sure all those Immigration detention centers are only meant to hold "illegal aliens"? We need to defend the most vulnerable to protect ourselves. Even "illegal aliens" have rights.
When a coup occurs it happens lightning fast, and then it is too late. - nick1971, on 08/03/2008, -1/+10Is the US a Facist regime as the Nazis were no but its a goodway slipping down the slope.
I unfortunately see a large group of similarities to the history of Germany in the 30's.
Our downfall started with a terrorist act - the burning of the german parliament building.
The arrest of the enemy of the state the terrorist an Austrian
The enactment of the enablement legislation - broad powers for the executive branch - arrest without trial, imprisonment without rights, definition of enhanced interrogation techniques; expansion of the powers to include supporters; setting up of an internment camp (Dachau) with special internment rules (no lawyer, indefinite etc).; wars justifying liberation of appressed people and the obtaining of addition raw materials (Oil, gas, coal, steel).
No one will do this because its too much effort instead they will click the red button and resume there day.
In Germany one of the 1st elements of the NS legislation was the Reichsbrandverordnung compare this to the US patriot act, then look at the rest of the enabling legislation, compare this to the rest of the legislation passed in the last 8 years.
It won't happen but look at what the executive branch has now for powers. In the 2nd world war the US executed internment for all Japanese citizens and those who were related to the Japanese. What stops the president doing the same for all Arab americans? - inactive, on 08/03/2008, -1/+10We have the government knocking down doors and hauling people off for possession of a plant. They are imprisoned with rapists and murderers. The government uses the war on plants to take all of your possessions without due process. If you don't think that we are being treated poorly by our government you are not looking.
- nick1971, on 08/03/2008, -2/+11There is a very interesting article under http://www.oldamericancentury.org/14pts.htm
from Laurence Britt.
It contains a mapping of these 12 points from his paper http://www.secularhumanism.org/index.php?section=l ...
which descibe what Facism is to events in history including the US over the last 8 years. Read the points and weep.
The 12 points are
1. Powerful and continuing expressions of nationalism. From the prominent displays of flags and bunting to the ubiquitous lapel pins, the fervor to show patriotic nationalism, both on the part of the regime itself and of citizens caught up in its frenzy, was always obvious. Catchy slogans, pride in the military, and demands for unity were common themes in expressing this nationalism. It was usually coupled with a suspicion of things foreign that often bordered on xenophobia.
2. Disdain for the importance of human rights. The regimes themselves viewed human rights as of little value and a hindrance to realizing the objectives of the ruling elite. Through clever use of propaganda, the population was brought to accept these human rights abuses by marginalizing, even demonizing, those being targeted. When abuse was egregious, the tactic was to use secrecy, denial, and disinformation.
3. Identification of enemies/scapegoats as a unifying cause. The most significant common thread among these regimes was the use of scapegoating as a means to divert the people’s attention from other problems, to shift blame for failures, and to channel frustration in controlled directions. The methods of choice—relentless propaganda and disinformation—were usually effective. Often the regimes would incite “spontaneous” acts against the target scapegoats, usually communists, socialists, liberals, Jews, ethnic and racial minorities, traditional national enemies, members of other religions, secularists, homosexuals, and “terrorists.” Active opponents of these regimes were inevitably labeled as terrorists and dealt with accordingly.
4. The supremacy of the military/avid militarism. Ruling elites always identified closely with the military and the industrial infrastructure that supported it. A disproportionate share of national resources was allocated to the military, even when domestic needs were acute. The military was seen as an expression of nationalism, and was used whenever possible to assert national goals, intimidate other nations, and increase the power and prestige of the ruling elite.
5. Rampant sexism. Beyond the simple fact that the political elite and the national culture were male-dominated, these regimes inevitably viewed women as second-class citizens. They were adamantly anti-abortion and also homophobic. These attitudes were usually codified in Draconian laws that enjoyed strong support by the orthodox religion of the country, thus lending the regime cover for its abuses.
6. A controlled mass media. Under some of the regimes, the mass media were under strict direct control and could be relied upon never to stray from the party line. Other regimes exercised more subtle power to ensure media orthodoxy. Methods included the control of licensing and access to resources, economic pressure, appeals to patriotism, and implied threats. The leaders of the mass media were often politically compatible with the power elite. The result was usually success in keeping the general public unaware of the regimes’ excesses.
7. Obsession with national security. Inevitably, a national security apparatus was under direct control of the ruling elite. It was usually an instrument of oppression, operating in secret and beyond any constraints. Its actions were justified under the rubric of protecting “national security,” and questioning its activities was portrayed as unpatriotic or even treasonous.
8. Religion and ruling elite tied together. Unlike communist regimes, the fascist and protofascist regimes were never proclaimed as godless by their opponents. In fact, most of the regimes attached themselves to the predominant religion of the country and chose to portray themselves as militant defenders of that religion. The fact that the ruling elite’s behavior was incompatible with the precepts of the religion was generally swept under the rug. Propaganda kept up the illusion that the ruling elites were defenders of the faith and opponents of the “godless.” A perception was manufactured that opposing the power elite was tantamount to an attack on religion.
9. Power of corporations protected. Although the personal life of ordinary citizens was under strict control, the ability of large corporations to operate in relative freedom was not compromised. The ruling elite saw the corporate structure as a way to not only ensure military production (in developed states), but also as an additional means of social control. Members of the economic elite were often pampered by the political elite to ensure a continued mutuality of interests, especially in the repression of “have-not” citizens.
10. Power of labor suppressed or eliminated. Since organized labor was seen as the one power center that could challenge the political hegemony of the ruling elite and its corporate allies, it was inevitably crushed or made powerless. The poor formed an underclass, viewed with suspicion or outright contempt. Under some regimes, being poor was considered akin to a vice.
11. Disdain and suppression of intellectuals and the arts. Intellectuals and the inherent freedom of ideas and expression associated with them were anathema to these regimes. Intellectual and academic freedom were considered subversive to national security and the patriotic ideal. Universities were tightly controlled; politically unreliable faculty harassed or eliminated. Unorthodox ideas or expressions of dissent were strongly attacked, silenced, or crushed. To these regimes, art and literature should serve the national interest or they had no right to exist.
12. Obsession with crime and punishment. Most of these regimes maintained Draconian systems of criminal justice with huge prison populations. The police were often glorified and had almost unchecked power, leading to rampant abuse. “Normal” and political crime were often merged into trumped-up criminal charges and sometimes used against political opponents of the regime. Fear, and hatred, of criminals or “traitors” was often promoted among the population as an excuse for more police power.
13. Rampant cronyism and corruption. Those in business circles and close to the power elite often used their position to enrich themselves. This corruption worked both ways; the power elite would receive financial gifts and property from the economic elite, who in turn would gain the benefit of government favoritism. Members of the power elite were in a position to obtain vast wealth from other sources as well: for example, by stealing national resources. With the national security apparatus under control and the media muzzled, this corruption was largely unconstrained and not well understood by the general population.
14. Fraudulent elections. Elections in the form of plebiscites or public opinion polls were usually bogus. When actual elections with candidates were held, they would usually be perverted by the power elite to get the desired result. Common methods included maintaining control of the election machinery, intimidating and disenfranchising opposition voters, destroying or disallowing legal votes, and, as a last resort, turning to a judiciary beholden to the power elite.
Makes you think dont it? - inactive, on 08/03/2008, -1/+9Hey, I think WallMart is running against obama now.
- DonWigler, on 08/03/2008, -0/+8The fact is through subsidizing certain industries, bailing out failing businesses, and creating laws that make it difficult for new businesses to emerge or compete with established firms, much of our economy is coordinated by the state.
- kemp34, on 08/03/2008, -2/+10He killed more people.
- inactive, on 08/03/2008, -0/+8If a war on terror / war on drugs, making you an enemy combatant / prisoner of war,
and a system of justice is proven un-just, would not escape under any terms be justified / legal ? - bawitback, on 08/03/2008, -1/+8Yes, Yes it Has.
- inactive, on 08/03/2008, -1/+8Or corporatism turned out very much like facism.
- Hangly, on 08/03/2008, -0/+7Is comparing body counts really productive?
Until "evil" is measurable and quantifiable there will never be an answer to that question.
So allow me to propose a system for measuring evil. The basic unit is the "Cheney" and is equal to the murder of 10,000 innocents. The Armenian genocide was 100 megacheneys. Stalin's purges totaled 5 gigacheneys more or less, depending how you count the bodies, and 50 times more evil. - jess21496, on 08/03/2008, -0/+7Amazing how history yet again repeats itself.
Our leaders know absolutely know nothing about running a republic.
And most people are oblivious as to what's happening to them. - nick1971, on 08/03/2008, -1/+8With GWBs obtaining increasing executive powers then mein Führer is a frightening but increasingly true title for the US President..
- inactive, on 08/03/2008, -1/+7Damn, I hope they don't collect all that uranium and build a bomb to destroy our freedoms.
- inactive, on 08/03/2008, -1/+7It's being done here too. There are mass arrests in the US, but the victims are so-called "illegal aliens". Mass detention centers are being built by "Homeland Security" purportedly for holding "illegal aliens", but they could also be used to hold dissidents.
- mcla007, on 08/03/2008, -1/+7I am totally convinced. I find repeated use of the f-word very persuasive.
- Waiting2awake, on 08/03/2008, -1/+7With due respect Hangly, while there are mini-battles between lobby groups - they do usually end up with a compromise where the taxpayer ends up being the externality.
So while there are battles, they are never in a position to lose said battle. The taxpayer however, consistently is the one footing the bill.
So the case, IMO, can be made that the US is being run by the corporations - for the corporations. - inactive, on 08/03/2008, -0/+5America / Americans / "we the people" can take any hit, bare any burden WITHOUT JEOPARDIZING OUR REPUBLIC !!
Nuke some of us and the rest will still vote for just representation and then kill those who killed ours ! the USA needs not a fuhrer to protect it, we are protected by the US Constitution !
But, given we've running out of just and honorable men anything else is quite possible.... - regression, on 08/03/2008, -0/+5Mussolini himself stated that "Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power."
- TheLittleWitch, on 08/03/2008, -0/+5Yes...and just having another soldier taking a picture of you sitting on a destroyed tank can make you seriously ill for the rest of your life, especially if you - like many soldiers - have taken some "souvenirs" with you.
Looks like "depleted" uranium and white phosphorous!!! are good enough:

History isn't a simple story of good guys vs. bad guys. Sometimes good people can do things for good reasons that turn out to have very bad consequences. - inactive, on 08/03/2008, -1/+5You took the words out of my mouth.
- afruff23, on 08/03/2008, -0/+4Forget war on terror and the war on drugs, escaping for any reason/crime is justified since you never agreed to be tried by a court.

- Hangly, on 08/03/2008, -1/+4Obviously not all corporations are always on the same side. I'm sure you've noticed the battle Big Oil and Agribusiness have been waging in the media over biofuels, for example.
Every other oligarghy and aristocracy in history has had internal power struggles. Ours is no different. - mcla007, on 08/03/2008, -0/+3Hangly, your metric for quantifying evil is the most original I have seen recently. However, killing "one's own people" is more evil than killing foreigners. I propose 1 Cheney equals 100,000 dead foreigners whereas only 10,000 dead "one's own people". I suppose that's why Stalin, Hitler, and Mao are evil, but some American Presidents aren't. Just a thought.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whiskey_Rebellion - Waiting2awake, on 08/04/2008, -1/+3If you don't then I think you are mistaking what Nazi Germany was in the end - to how it evolved. Some people are merely trying to stop this constant progress to that end.
It would be easier to avoid if people would start to see how America is today, under the laws - instead of just remember what it was like and assuming it is still that way.
