- KissTheRing, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Did you not read the article?
Here is the important part you missed:
"NIE drafting guidelines included in the July 9 Senate report describe three rough timeframes: a “fast track” of two to three weeks, a “normal track” of four to eight weeks, and a “long track” of two months or more. The vice chairman of the NIC told Senate investigators that an NIE prepared in 60 days would be considered a very fast schedule and that NIEs typically take three to six months to complete." - pintomp3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13i really hope this backfires. of course that would require the media actually put the spotlight on it. the reason for delaying is so blatant.
- livestradamus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6FYI: Digg has many topics, of which you are free to choose what you want it to display.
From the tone of your statement, I doubt what you said was in a state of sarcasm. - Alcorsu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The Iraq Intel report is a different report from the one that had 3 pages declassified yesterday. The one you refer to was released back in April but this one has been held up by politics.
- jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5it might actually work in dems favour that it is delayed, regardless if it blasts the bush administration or not, because now Bush has no ground to stand on when making his claims, because everyone knows that there is a document out there and it is highly suspicious that it hasnt been released yet...

I'm being a BBC whore today, sorry. - mathmanjeffy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"I infact went out of my way to add the /sarcasm because I didn't mean it as sarcasm."
Been on the internet for 15+ years now... I've never been more confused... - rhawk301, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I kind of agree with @Dewhead Something very critical like the NIE should be government read only (intel departments, oversight, whitehouse, etc) at first, however as with any material is should be subject to public scrutiny at some point. I feel that even the most valuable intelligence should be released at some point. Pick a point in the future of which all relevant people have read the report and had time to digest the data. Then do the standard redactions for super-classified stuff like if people's lives (agents, etc) are affected.
However, the whole political thing should not be considered. If we are so petty as a people, then it is our own downfall. Let the cards fall where they may, but we should be able to see the report at some point. - Xiol, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Excerpts: Declassified US terror report

- Antitorgo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's the point. I'm willing to bet that the new document would paint a similar picture to the old one (that some things are bad and some things are good). This is just a ploy to say that "Bush is hiding something" because they know the document probably won't be done before the Nov elections.
- cakestick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@robbh66: Do us a favor then, and go find the factual articles that are talking about how much good we're doing for the world.
Then, go jump into a pool of framing spikes. - Antitorgo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1So the Democrats want the NIE to be done "faster" than originally planned because they want to selectively leak parts of it to the press to use to their advantage right before the elections? And then they have the nerve to say the other side is the one being partisan?
I guess they saw that their "selective" leaking of the last NIE didn't work out too well for them when the president declassified the summary that showed a much more balanced picture so they want to throw more mud. The thing is -- they know that the new NIE probably won't be done by then and they can point to this "political ploy" to say that Bush is "hiding something" and thus try and sway more votes in November. I'd love for Negroponte to fast track this and come out with yet another fairly balanced NIE and shove it down the Dems faces (again). - 10ksnooker, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Well the last release didn't go so well, lets move on.
Seen the latest polls in Iraq? al Qaeda popularity is tanking. About like the cut and run crowd in the US. Looks like indiscriminately harvesting civilians is a bust with everyone except the US media.
Everyone knows there is a another document out there which is much worse, and an even another one that is worse that that one. Don't they?
What's hilarious is the Democrat call to release anything was never heard, as long as the NYTimes had leaked the three sentences of the 4 page document that supported the Democrats narrow world view that cut and run made any sense whatsoever. - robbh66, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1/sarcasm
- robbh66, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1What an excellent assessment. I infact went out of my way to add the /sarcasm because I didn't mean it as sarcasm. Brilliant deductive reasoning, Sherlock. What does Dr. Watson think?
- robbh66, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3I love how Digg went from being a technology oriented site to a "What's wrong with America" site. I'd be dumbfounded if such topics weren't only the majority, but by a large margin as well.
- Dewhead, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4It is hard to release a report that hasn't been finalized. Do we really want these reports made public? It would be a terrible trend to start. How honest do you think they will be if the writers know that it will be public. These reports will become political spin and therefore worthless.
Also, the report that was leaked was based on February and came out in April. Maybe someone waited to leak it (and then only leaked certain parts of it) to try and score some political points. If so, it backfired. Whatever. The democrats will interpret it one way and the Republicans will see it a different. Every person who reads the report will say that it validates their own viewpoint.

What is Digg?
