- PeppermintPig, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3The best argument for direct democratic voting in this situation is that the federal government appears to trump the states, but the very power the federal government wields is the problem, and it makes direct democracy hazardous to liberty.
It is not possible to gain effective control via 'direct control through democratic voting'. The answer should be decentralization. This is why secession is becoming more popular all over. - wishninja, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1but without the electoral system bush would have lost.

However, the federal government seems mostly concerned with individuals today. The ill gotten gains of power the federal government is placing on individuals is the total necessity for a more direct form of democracy.
If we had a federal government that wasn't out of control and acted as a limited republic the Electoral college would work but the federal government is not limited and is concerning itself with the individual therefore we need to more directly control it.
