- JCSaint, on 10/11/2007, -5/+173Next up on Giuliani's stump speech: "Have you ever heard of a country giving unalienable rights to citizens? It's ridiculous!"
- Jonface, on 10/11/2007, -5/+140The only thing Giuliani's fear mongering makes me fear is Giuliani himself.
- jveezy, on 10/11/2007, -5/+76Maybe Giuliani should just stop talking, period. He'd look a little more honest that way. Or at least a little more intelligent.
- PhantomBantam, on 10/11/2007, -2/+56A few quotes from sun tzu's "the art of war"
"In war, victory should be swift. If victory is slow men tire, morale sags. Seiges exhaust strength; protracted campaign strain the public treasury... no nation has ever benefitted from a protracted war"
This one directly pertains to retreat: "He retreats eluding pursuit, Too swift to be overtaken"
I would highly recommend reading the book, as it offers a surprising amount of insight. Every page seems to relate to the Iraq war. I just noticed that it says an army is better taken whole than destroyed, which is exactly what we did to the Iraqi army, and people are now calling a mistake. I'm sure there's a public domain translated version online. - uwjames, on 10/11/2007, -2/+38If the last 8 years are any indication, then he might just be dumb enough to get elected.
- robshoy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+37At least Nixon knew when to quit...
- CoralWolf, on 10/11/2007, -2/+37The neo-republican party is a history-free zone.
- vuke69, on 10/11/2007, -0/+25He thinks Saddam was behind 9/11 as well, the man obviously has no grip on reality.
- digitize, on 10/11/2007, -9/+32Reading is overrated, snacking on Jesus crackers whilst speaking at Christian associations, all while you're skipping intelligence meetings, is a much better decision.
- mikelieman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21As long as people are so dumb, they'll pay his speakers' fees, he's not going to go away.
- nevesis, on 10/11/2007, -2/+23Giuliani is going to put his foot in his mouth worse than Howard Dean did one of these days, and then it'll be bye bye presidency.
- soccerman90, on 10/11/2007, -1/+21why is this ***** running for president if he doesnt even know basic American history? God, we have a great democratic government, but it is so chockfull lying, deceiving, idiotic bastards, that its taking our country down the drain
- someguyouknow, on 10/11/2007, -1/+19He is unaware of a lot of things.
- johntwoods, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18more like Fooliani.... that's right... i went there.
- Bisquick, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18Looking at the full scope of Giuliani's various positions and statements, I have a hard time believing anybody is going to vote for him. He appears to dip his toes in every position traditional Republican voters hate.
- conceptkid, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18honestly, guiliani is never going to be president. NO ONE likes him. Mainstream media needs to refocus their attention. Ron Paul owned him on National TV but he still wont get a clue that he has no chance.
- Curiousity, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15Hasn't he already?
I'd say we're just waiting on the media to catch on. - Osjpr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14What was tragic was the initiation of the war in the first place
- vuke69, on 10/11/2007, -3/+16Granted, and yes it was tragic. But look at Vietnam now, united, peaceful, and moving forward (albeit at a tepid pace) with the rest of the world.
Feel free to compare and contrast this to North Korea.
We can't force, and/or coerce, the whole world into playing by our rules, even if we do have the biggest guns. - vuke69, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13The sad part is, Giuliani probably STILL hasn't read the 9/11 commission report, and probably still thinks he was right.
- vuke69, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13What was tragic, was that we saw what was happening to the French there, and yet STILL decided we wanted a piece of that.
- freakk123, on 10/11/2007, -4/+16Ugh, Giuliani is such a *****. I still laugh when people tell me they think he's a contender, but I'm starting to worry that I'm the delusional one. If this man even gets the freaking nomination of the republican party, I will have lost all hope in our political system. This is coming from a New Yorker, by the way.
- Derrekito, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11Just throw in science... or education for that matter.
- insticate, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12If Giuliani wants to get the republican nomination, he should go back to using his "comb-over" and walk around holding a white breathing mask to his face, because every time he opens his mouth, he's either hypocritical or just plain wrong.
- SenorCardgage74, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13Mark Foley?
- ZachS, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11I agree. What ever happened to the whole "... the only thing to fear is fear itself."
- prthealien, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11I honestly think Guiliani will be worse than Bush if he is elected president. Baffling ignorance, big mouths, and huge egos do not go hand in hand.
- milliebubba, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10"Insert" democracy? It can't really be done; that has to grow from within.
- dragonworks2050, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Vietnam is hardly an example of a successful exit strategy. That said, Giuliani is still an idiot for saying that.
- Curiousity, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Silence is not always a Sign of Wisdom, but Babbling is ever a Mark of Folly
- chopcow, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11I've never been overly passionate about who wins the presidency in the past, but dammit, this time around I am praying to All Mighty God in Heaven that it isn't Guliani...
...and I'm an athiest, so that's saying something. - dtschwe, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10That's just it; the government does not give unalienable rights. The people have these rights based on the fact that they are human. Governments are instituted to protect peoples unalienable rights from those who would take them. Which is ironic since the government is the one who is always taking them away.
- Sabin17, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10That's it, Giuliani, keep on digging that hole, keep digging till you can't get out.
- bizchris, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8I know everyone hates hearing about Ron Paul, but Giuliani's response to the "blowback" discussion was the exact moment I knew Giuliani wouldn't (shouldn't) be President.
- vaughntrapp, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8well it IS harder to bamboozle courageous people.
God, I've lost ANY respect i had for Giuliani after 911 - Gurubanks, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11Here's something most conservatives don't know: wars are meant to eventually end.
- jeffiek, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Giuliani opening his mouth during that debate was the best thing he could do for Ron Paul. Had he kept quiet, Paul's comments may have faded into oblivion.
- LakeshoreBaby, on 10/11/2007, -5/+12I hate Rude-y.
- PhantomBantam, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Just to clarify my last statement: we disbanded (destroyed) the Iraqi army, and are now calling that a mistake. Sun Tzu said it's always better to take an army rather than destroy them.
18 month's might not sound "swift", but keep in mind it is in comparison to how quick the enemy can advance. Also, It's certainly swifter than staying for 10 more years.
I forgot to mention anything about the book itself, so here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_art_of_war - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7This guy is not allowed anywhere near the presidential seat, HE'S A ***** MORON, with illusions of grandeur and a victim syndrome to boot. I seriously can't stand this idiot.
- 00z003, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8imagine rudy giuliani in control of a nuclear missile supply
- Albionshores, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7The 'Art of War' was not written in 1520. It was written in the 6th century BC. If you had read the book, its description of war is not 'kill em hard till we are done'. It is in fact an advocate of win war without fighting, fight when you are assured a win, win swiftly.
You are referring to Machiavelli's 'The Prince', which was written circa 1520. If you wanted to win a war, the worst, the very, very worst thing would be to use a nuke...it would create a wave of resentment that would flush the economy, see martial law imposed in the US, and push the theatre of war's borders across the globe. It would be like greasing a naked oil tanker and then berthing it next to a barbecue with firework display.
Had you read 'The Prince' not only would you have realised it was not written by SunTzu you would also realise that democracy is not imposed it is seized. That is why it is called a democracy (rule by the demographic) and that when a regime is put into place it is best an oligarchy, and that the true power will always reside with the few. As noted by Machiavelli. - vuke69, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7It's probably safe to say that he doesn't know Shi'ite from Shinola, and neither would (or should) your average person. But as a politician at a national level, he damn well should know.
- LBTS, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Factually incorrect. JFK was about to pull the Vietnam plug when he was assassinated. Why you would presume that only liberals would not have known something that is untrue, defies reason even a bit further. Good luck with those history lessons.
- vuke69, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7At least you didn't call him Moody Fooliani, because that would be just silly and childish.
- milliebubba, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6The Killing Fields were in Cambodia.
- chronniff, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6as much as I agree with everything said in this article, I thought it would do well do to point out that at the same time as Nixon was reducing our troops in Vietnam he was escalating the bombing of parts of Vietnam, as well as its neighbor Laos, killing thousands of poor farmers.....in reality Nixon wanted to and in many ways did escalate the war, and his troop reduction was purely for the publics support......the moral is, Nixon was a bastard, and so is Bush
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -10/+15It really wasnt that gradual. Our defense of the south Vietnamese ended very abruptly. It didnt take long for the north vietcong to swoop in and murder them by the millions while we all danced because the war was over.
- glyph01, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I like this one I caught on a wall near canal and 8th Ave-"GiuliANUS"
