- Boeing, on 10/12/2007, -2/+49"President Bush today became the first person in history to receive the Purple Heart for injuries sustained while engaging a pretzel"
- SteelFrog, on 10/12/2007, -3/+47He was not awarded a purple heart, merely received one. From the article:
"Bill Thomas of Copperas Cove, Texas, decided recently to give George Bush one of the three purple hearts that he had been awarded in Vietnam. Bush was so blown over by this gesture that he invited Thomas and his wife, Georgia, to the Oval Office for the presentation..." - UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21It never says "awarded".
- nblsavage, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18How is it inaccurate? The article referenced tells the complete story.
- EntropyMan, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21Yeah, in all fairness, some poor veteran confused "patriotism" with "irony." It happens all the time.
Bush didn't do anything wrong in this case.
But if Bush did earn a purple heart, I'm sure it would be for "valor under heinous pretzel." - swrostmore, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16You could not buy a Purple Heart at a flea market. Although selling a purple heart in a flea market and giving a purple heart to GW are equally disgraceful.
- jonreily, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Absurd, but meaningless. I could buy a Purple Heart at a flea market and it would have the same overall significance.
You can't be a "war hero" if you created the war. - DiggingDeep, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11If by purple heart they mean titty twister, then yes, lets all give him one.
- LLXerxes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Not innacurate, merely misleading.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10If anything, all of America should be awarded a purple heart for wounds inflicted by the Bush Neocon agenda in the war on civil liberties.
- kypen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7God, I wish I could digg you up more than once...
- SultanTravi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7So the GOP gives a guy who never participated in a combat mission a Purple Heart...
And they give a guy who has shrapnel in his leg from his year of Vietnam combat missions this:
http://www.danegerus.com/weblog/images/JFKerryBandAid.jpg
(Obviously I mean "give" in a symbolic sense) - xxTazxx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Finally George W Bush has a heart.
- CerebralVisions, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6And he accepted it! What balls.
- iceperson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"From the post's description: "he received a Vietnam-era Purple Heart award".
Him receiving one is not the same as being awarded one."
You're right, and Clinton was never "alone" with Monica (I know, depends on what your definition of 'alone' and 'is' is...)
To pretend that this submission isn't deceptive is to have your head firmly planted into your ass... - FTLJohnson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Especially after cutting funding to the VA hospitals... Now he's just kicking them while they are down...
- leobaby, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I guess this commenter proves republicans live in the past.
also
"He said he didn't feel like he had earned it."
No, really?
He should have graciously not accepted this purple heart and made other accommodations to meet with this vet. - maeon3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2To preserve the integrity of the purple heart, shouldn't Bush be sent to lead the front lines of the war to earn it?
- dankenstein, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4and I always thought it would be a black and rotting heart award.
- ruminate, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4No he did not earn it and should not be allowed to even touch a Purple Heart. Errrr, how mush more idiocy will we have to endure.
- logicnazi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm hate Bush almost as much as the next guy but Jesus Christ this criticism is idiotic. Some vet wants to give bush his purple heart. Well it's the vet's purple heart. He's the one who served the country and earned it, it seems a bit presumptuous of us to try and tell him what he should and shouldn't do with it.
And why should Bush have really refused to take it? I mean sure he should have first politely thanked the man for the honor but told him it wasn't necessary but if the vet insisted and really wanted to give him the heart why shouldn't he take it? What do you think he should have thought, 'yes, I am deliberately killing US soldiers for no purpose I won't take it'? Bush may be too dumb, incompetent, ideologically blinded and unable to take criticism to be a minimally competent president but he does honestly believe he is making the best choices for the country. - FTLJohnson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3You're right, maybe we should ask Digg for an option to bury something as misleading. (I think inaccurate suffices just fine)
- FTLJohnson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4It's deceptive, and inaccurate...
War Heros receive the Purple Heart Award
Jackass politicians are GIVEN one. (and they don't even deserve that) - bovester, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Yeah it's true Bush was asSALTed back in 2002... he totally deserved that Purple Heart I mean just look at the injuries he sustained...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/olmedia/1755000/images/_1759881_newbush300bruise.jpg - seandfeeney, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Duplicate story... this made front page 7 days ago http://digg.com/politics/Decorated_Texas_Vet_To_Present_G_Dub_With_A_Purple_Heart
- geek_xyu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3This is sickening that someone could take a purple heart from a war hero. This is an entire new low.
- Texasbb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2He probably bought it online and had it delivered to him so he would feel special.
- logicnazi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I tend to think that being awarded a purple heart means you should get to do whatever the ***** you want with it. If you've served your country like that it's pretty absurd for the rest of us to tell them 'yes, we are honoring you....but you don't actually get to decide what to do with your medal'
- krakkinem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@xen0blue
What the ***** are you talking about? The article says: "Bill Thomas of Copperas Cove, Texas." Ass. - TecHeavy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dubua getting a purple heart.. Let's go and get ours too.
- toasty168, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1that vet musta sniffed a little too much agent orange. OR... this is another neo-con propaganda move. Becha that guy was a member of the swift boat veterans for truth group.
- DaveSegasture, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I only hope Dumber-n-Ya decides to wear it... as he'd be in violation of Federal Law and could be prosecuted for it.
Seriously... I agree with those who've stated... I'm sure there was some other way to honor this man who donated this hard-earned honor (misguided as he might have been) without actually accepting the medal itself.
Perhaps he could have something along the lines of "While I'm honored by your gesture, that award is for those who have earned it in combat so I cannot accept it.". - oceanclub4204, on 04/20/2008, -0/+0This is sickening. This man should be ashamed of himself and how dare he suggest that Bush has suffered as much as those troops. Bush doesnt know the meaning of the word suffer and does this man really think Bush invited him to the white house as a gracious gesture? No, he did it because he wanted the publicity. Why aren't the swift boat veterans complaining about this? They crucified John Kerry but when a republican gets a purple heart he doesnt deserve, it's suddenly ok
- davewashere, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6Oh great, like the president needed another place to hide his cocaine
- FTLJohnson, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I tried it to digg you down hyperpasta, but it didn't work ;(
- bovester, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2FTL you are such a loser. The title says exactly what happened. Maybe you should think about how sad it is to get off by calling submissions inaccurate.
- krakkinem, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2WHY does this idiot have to be from Texas? Stop befouling my state, you neo-con bastards!
- FTLJohnson, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Some people will Digg anything... BURIED AS INACCURATE. The description on this story is entirely misleading (dare I say...almost a lie)
++digg to steelfrog for quickly exposing this fraud. - clemsontiger, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I may not like the guy, but the job he does, not one of us could do. you may think you could run the largest most powerful country in the world, but that is one job i would never want.
- Cerialthriller, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1if con is the opposite of pro, then isnt Congress the opposite of progress?
- vertinox, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Still... Why would he deserve to get one as a collectors items?
- Cerialthriller, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Maybe he suffered brain damage while campaigning last time?
- kjizzle, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Misleading title. Buried as ***** STUPID. No one wants to read your ***** blog, "dude."
- hyperpasta, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3^ Actually, you can. Just click the thumb many times really fast... try it out.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1"Progressives". I love that word. Makes me laugh every time.
- frodsteamin2, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2ITS ABOUT TIME
- robbh66, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1The blurb implies he was awarded it as people don't usually just give medals to other people.
- MercedRocks, on 10/12/2007, -17/+9Inaccurate, a guy gave him his, big deal. He wasn't "awarded" it.
The idiot in chief isn't a "war hero" for accepting a guy's gift.
