FTA:
"Although Israel is sometimes described as an American client state, which receives huge financial subsidy from Washington, she is unique as a client state: she can do exactly as she likes in the knowledge that she will never be seriously restrained by her sponsor. Even when the White House is privately irritated by Israeli actions, Congress is absolutely reliable, never knowingly outbid in its unswerving loyalty." - Zippo, on 01/12/2009, -2/+45You'd be surprised what people can get away with under the veil of religion. I'm not saying religion is always bad, however I feel it has no place in government.
- inactive, on 01/12/2009, -8/+50Both sides? Puleaz. Israel gets everything up to F16s. Hamas mostly uses home-made rockets. Israel has used tanks against Palestinians with rocks and slingshots.
- Feep, on 01/13/2009, -6/+38I'm Jewish.
***** Israel.
And most of the other states out there too, to be fair. - richmomz, on 01/13/2009, -3/+33There is more to this - an article from the Jerusalem Post today noted that Israeli PM Ehud Olmert called Bush in the middle of a speech, demanded that he interrupt his speech to speak with him and ordered our own President not to vote on the UN resolution demanding a ceasefire. Bush complied as ordered: http://digg.com/politics/Israeli_PM_I_Dictated_Bus ...
- MrErr, on 01/12/2009, -5/+34I think it is alright to complain about their holocaust. But they should not it as an excuse for their tyranny.
- sigg14, on 01/12/2009, -8/+34"never forget" lol how'd that work out? I guess its only genocide if it is jews dying
- inactive, on 01/12/2009, -6/+32FTA: When Lord Derby asked Sir Lewis Namier, the great historian of Georgian England, why he, as a Jew, didn't write Jewish history, Namier replied: "There is no modern Jewish history, only a Jewish martyrology, and that is not amusing enough for me." It might be said that the underlying purpose of the Zionist project – which Namier passionately supported – was to reject Jewish martyrology, and to turn the Jews from passive victims to active makers of their destiny.
They may be 'active makers of their destiny', they certainly like to whip up the martyrologies. The way you hear the Israelis tell it (and the Americans believe it), they are always the victims and never the killers. - elliotys, on 01/11/2009, -14/+39Maybe if larger states would stop supplying both sides with weapons, then this fight would be what it should be: A stick and stone fight between the both of them with much less casualties.
- inactive, on 01/12/2009, -4/+29Yes, in comparison they are peashooters. AK47's and RPG are what, 40 years old? They are the same weapons that were used in Lebanon in the 1970s and before that. Confronting an Israeli merkava tank with that you might as well use a peashooter.
Grad rockets are pretty old stuff too and they have very few of them. - inactive, on 01/12/2009, -13/+34Yeah right. Hamas has the rhetoric, Israel is putting it in practice. A creeping ethnic cleansing has been going on for decades, they are very much aware of public opinion and how vulnerable they are to it, so they need excuses like the rocket Hamas fires to put in some mass murder.
- writie, on 01/12/2009, -7/+27When was the last suicide bomb inside Israel?
- writie, on 01/12/2009, -10/+27Leaving Gaza to build bigger settlements in the West Bank was not very convincing.

Pakistan was started by the British. - inactive, on 01/12/2009, -2/+19I take it you have never heard of Israeli settlements, occupation, checkpoints, 'administrative detention' etc?
- thepoliticalcat, on 01/13/2009, -2/+18@michaelpinto -
That's "shariah law." Also, Israel is a "democracy" which declares unilaterally that Arab citizens and political parties may not run for office. Israel also violates the letter and spirit of the Balfour declaration that founded the State of Israel, by engaging in endless human rights abuses on a regular basis. Finally, no other client state has ever dared attack American troops in uniform quite as blatantly. No accounting has ever been made of multiple Israeli attacks on Americans, military and civilian. I support the Israeli people. I support the right of existence of the State of Israel. But I can no longer be blind to the multiple brazen abuses of every standard of decency and humanity this world has ever claimed. - sigg14, on 01/12/2009, -3/+19I think it is the zionists who like to blurr the distinction between zionism and the jews. anyone condemning the zionists are promptly labelled antisemites.
- MrErr, on 01/12/2009, -1/+16@ftx37 Why do you assume that?
- diggOUTLAW, on 01/13/2009, -1/+16@richmomz
"There is more to this - an article from the Jerusalem Post today noted that Israeli PM called Bush in the middle of a speech, demanded that he interrupt his speech to speak with him and ordered our own President not to vote on the UN resolution demanding a ceasefire. Bush complied as ordered"
So who really is in charge???? ISRAEL OR THE U.S.? Is Israel in charge of the United States???...things are surfacing up quicker than I ever imagined. - pintomp3, on 01/13/2009, -2/+17Is that why they spy on us and steal our military secrets and need billions of our tax dollars every year?
- da_bradler, on 01/13/2009, -2/+17Why is it Hollywood never makes any movies about the equal number of soviet civilians that were murdered in German Death camps? I feel like jewish people are trying to rewrite history to make them the only people who have ever faced suffering.
- inactive, on 01/12/2009, -11/+25Leaving all of Gaza is a lie in the first place, because that never happened. What happened was a tactical withdrawal, all those settlers now live in other illegal settlements in the West Bank. But the occupation is still in place. Israel still controls the air, the sea, the borders.
Israel decided to toss Gaza away is what that was. Better to use it as a concentration camp and starve the people there into submission. - writie, on 01/12/2009, -4/+18Israel should not be taking rockets (nor indeed should Hams be sending them). However, Hamas offered a ceasefire back in 2006. The most recent one was largely respected. The tit-for-tat shooting from Israel and rockets from Gaza were a significant improvement on the period before:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/nancy-kanwisher/reig ...
Remember that Israel was willing to continue with this, but Hamas was unhappy with the borders staying closed and again offered to extend the ceasefire to the West Bank. They perhaps should have made their position clearer, or made a bolder statement about maybe accepting the state of Israel or something. But the facts are there.
But it's difficult to stop rocket firing without engaging in negotiations with the firer. This was the mistake made in 2006 and continued to this day. This whole incident was avoidable. leaders on both sides seemed more intent on saving face than lives. - inactive, on 01/12/2009, -2/+16Like I always say. I wasn't raised an anti semite. Israel taught me to be one!
- jkleinfeld, on 01/12/2009, -5/+19Israel did not withdraw all-out from Gaza, rather, they simply moved their guns and tanks from inside the jail cell to the watchtowers on the perimeter. Slow watching the Gazans starve to death: a much more passive method of murder, it's cheaper and it keeps the hands clean.
- inactive, on 01/12/2009, -5/+20Ladies and gentlemen, the above comment is brought to you by Diggs most extreme Muslim-hating fascist. The hypocrisy is quite staggering.
- itsallaboutmo, on 01/13/2009, -0/+14This is such buII$hit. First of all this has nothing to do with USA second it has nothing to do with Judaism.
This war is good for one certain political persona named Ehud Barak who's the current Minister of Defense. Elections are coming soon in Israel and he's only strengthening his position.
To think that this is a "Jewish" thing coming from hundreds or thousands of years ago is as stupid as blaming the British Empire for the American onslaught on Iraq, or the crusades at that.
Wars are being fought not because of the people of the country but because of the Idiots that run the country and they wage wars for their own self narrow interests. - stewacide, on 01/13/2009, -0/+13The tragic irony is that by allowing Israel to avoid any compromise now, the Israel lobby is ensuring that Israel faces far starker choices down the line: namely, between survival as a 'Jewish state' and any semblance of lawful democratic legitimacy.
Can you imagine what depths South Africa would have plumed if the whites didn't feel the necessity to settle while a settlement was still possible? I'm afraid what will happen with Israel the next few decades will give us a good idea :( - tgc1, on 01/13/2009, -1/+14About time someone like you chimed in. Thanks. The whole world has been waiting for people like you to stand up and speak out.
- MrErr, on 01/12/2009, -3/+16Pakistan still cannot do it as it pleases. After the nuclear tests conducted by Pakistan in the 90's we imposed sanctions on them. In contrast to Israel who gets a free flow of weapons no matter what they do.
- pintomp3, on 01/13/2009, -1/+14@MrErr so he can build a strawman.
- inactive, on 01/12/2009, -1/+14Israel was the one that broke the ceasefire when it sent soldiers into Gaza on US election day. So if we are talking reprisals, those rockets fired into Israel were reprisals.
"Let the civilians die, so that they can see the brutality of their rulers." This is just disgusting. - Cynic09, on 01/13/2009, -0/+13No surprise there, look who's got made into Obama's right hand man, Emmanuel.
"Emanuel, a former Bill Clinton adviser, is the son of a Jerusalem-born pediatrician who was a member of the Irgun (Etzel or IZL), a militant Zionist group that operated in Palestine between 1931 and 1948."
http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1034855.html - Waiting2awake, on 01/12/2009, -2/+15And Michael and Israel would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for those pesky facts....
- MrErr, on 01/12/2009, -4/+16One reason the holocaust happened was because most people did not believe that it was actually taking place. The eyes of the world can see what is happening in Gaza and the westbank today.
- pintomp3, on 01/13/2009, -1/+12I asked Rosen if aipac suffered a loss of influence after the Steiner affair. A half smile appeared on his face, and he pushed a napkin across the table. “You see this napkin?” he said. “In twenty-four hours, we could have the signatures of seventy senators on this napkin.”
http://www.newyorker.com/archive/2005/07/04/050704 ... - inactive, on 01/12/2009, -0/+11"hamas claims to have heard gun shots so they opened fire...CLAIMS!"
Hamas claims no such thing. The ceasefire was broken on November 4 when Israel invaded killing 4 or 5 Hamas militants.
"we already know they want to wipe out all jews"
Total *****. Hamas is fighting the occupation. It has mentioned it will accept a state within the 1967 borders several times. I don't particularly like Hamas or its tactics but this is just black propaganda. - rbfbeerguy, on 01/13/2009, -1/+12Same here.
- buckrogers1965, on 01/13/2009, -0/+11Ironically the Israeli's have now taken more friendly fire casualties from the invasion in just a few days than they had in years of rocket attacks.
So by their own logic they must now brutally attack themselves. - gernati, on 01/13/2009, -1/+12No kidding apparently israel has the right to self defence even thought it is the aggressor, while palestinians the victims of a cruel occupation and terrorism the last 60+ years are not allowed to defend themself against a powerful aggressor that are violating every possible human right and seems to be above international and humanitarian law.

Do you have a braincell of your own or do you use the one in the public library? That stupid cliche is so pathetic. First of all: Israel is occupying the West Bank and building settlements on it in contravention of international law, second: the Gaza Strip has been under a crippling blockade for years. Third: Israel has always replied to those rocket attacks with much more severe attacks of its own. It also carries out dirty operations like bomb attacks and assassinations in the occupied territories as well as in Lebanon and elsewhere. Israel is not a normal country and the Palestinians are not its neighbours but its colonial subjects. - Barackalypse, on 01/13/2009, -0/+10Israeli Military Industries Merkava tanks beat Palestinian sticks any day of the week:
http://www.imi-israel.com/division.aspx?FolderID=7 ... - robert82, on 01/12/2009, -1/+11The fact that ISRAEL BROKE THE CEASEFIRE that had been largely intact for months on 4 November 2008 is very well documented
UN: Hamas did not break the truce, Israel did: http://www.youtube.com/?v=gDbW4zd59yM - Plotinus, on 01/13/2009, -1/+11Isreal != judaism.
I have a huge problem with Isreal but if anyone has an issue with jews then I would be all over them.
The problem is that Isreal is enabling and legitimising nazi ***** and anti-semitism who hide under the guise of being Palestinian supporters. - inactive, on 01/12/2009, -13/+23Stop posting this ridiculous meme. Israel has not been sitting on its hands taking rockets, rockets have been flying over the 'border' from both sides for 8 years until Hamas proposed and enforced a ceasefire.
- rexblade, on 01/12/2009, -3/+12Pakistans I.S.I was directly linked to the terrorists of 9/11. Yet this was completely ignored by Washington and Pakistan was somehow an ally while Musharraf was in power, despite the fact he was a dictator we funded him while "fighting for democracy" in Iraq. Irony?
Now they elect a leader democratically and they are now being cast as evil.
Perhaps the newly elected leader doesn't want to play the hide a crook game with Washington? So naturally the puppet masters don't like it when they lose a puppet. - sigg14, on 01/12/2009, -7/+16you don't think they would if they could? I know they have the ability to but the eyes of the world are watching, this is not the 40's you can't pull off something like the holocaust nowadays secretly like hitler did. so instead the zionists keep creating terrorists to justify the slow systematic extermination of any non jew on their holy land. israel has spread like a parasitic fungus and will not stop even after Palestine is completely consumed, unless the "state" of israel is completely destroyed
- neko6, on 01/13/2009, -0/+8writie - just before the security fence was completed and the blockade on Gaza set, incidentally.
- algaeturd, on 01/13/2009, -2/+10People are dumb enough to believe anything the media wants them to believe. Didn't we learn that valuable lesson with Iraq?
Suppose not. Some people will never learn. You wonder after a while if they're even capable of learning anymore. -
