- ThsGuyRightHere, on 03/01/2009, -6/+196For anyone who skimmed through the article, I highly suggest reading the comments From Freerepublic et al. Here are a few gems:
"Are the Republican leaders just this stupid? Really, here we have a man, Rush Limbaugh, who brings down the house, with the audience on their feet, comment after comment. Twenty-two million people can not wait until noon every day to hear his comments. What does the Republican party do? They make Limbaugh an enemy. It is beyond belief."
and
"...This is, to be honest, a black guy talking ya-ya with other black guys and that kind of "dialog" never yields anything terribly useful."
Here's what they don't understand: mainstream America doesn't think like that. Rush is extremely influential and popular with a sizable minority of the population. Rush's audience is large enough to provide him a very nice income. It is not however large enough to win nationwide elections. - mmittimm, on 03/02/2009, -14/+196It's cute how the GOP is ruthlessly destroying itself. I'm just gonna sit back and enjoy the show.
- ErickStevenson, on 03/02/2009, -9/+104All I see the Republican party do now is try and make sure this administration fails to prove their point, and it doesn't really matter if everyone suffers, they just want to have their power back..... sucks really, when they were all chanting "Country First", I guess it's "Party First" for them now.
- Kohaxx, on 03/02/2009, -3/+88This whole fiasco is awesome from the other side of the fence because all they're going to do is promote more Joe the Plumbers, and more Sarah Palins who have no widespread support and no intellectual solutions, and don't have a rats chance of pulling in those damn "liberal and moderate" votes.
Sure Rush pulls in large crowds and has a rabid fan base. So does Lewis Black and Jon Stewart, doesn't mean they can run the country or know what's best.
The best part is they won't realize the damage they've done until it's far too late by alienating everyone who doesn't subscribe to the neo-conservative view. - inactive, on 03/02/2009, -12/+90"the past 10 days is astounding. I wonder if Obama now has a Clinton like mafia with dirt on everyone that they can silence critics with?"
They don't have to worry about silencing Republicans, since the American people know they have no real solutions to any problems. Heck, it's not even hard to find "dirt" on any Republican; They're molesting children, having gay sex in bathrooms, not paying taxes, and committing fraud to attain prescription drugs, like Limbaugh. - qazws, on 03/02/2009, -10/+87Deceased GOP 1854-2008
- Decisive10, on 03/02/2009, -5/+82after Governor Jindal's disastrously condescending "response" to Obama's congressional address where he was caught lying about an experience he claimed to have personally had. McCain's embarrassing presidential campaign with disgraceful and insulting appearances by Governor Palin and Joe the Plumber, and Bush being rated one of the worst presidents ever, i think its safe to say they arent climbing out of this hole anytime soon. RIP GOP? No because big business will carry them right out of it like they always do.
- dalittle, on 03/02/2009, -2/+59The GOP need to out and get rid of the social conservatives. They have ruined them.
- bal00, on 03/02/2009, -6/+59A Limbaugh/Plumber ticket would be a gift to the Democrats.
- joand315, on 03/01/2009, -9/+58Michael Steele, your days are numbered.
- ryanisnotsuper, on 03/02/2009, -3/+48This is exactly what the "left" wanted to happen. There is such a thing as bad publicity.
- Zomgondo, on 03/02/2009, -8/+53After 8 years of being told I was a terrorist-loving America hater... this is gorgeous.
- DontGiveADamn, on 03/02/2009, -2/+46They don't have any solutions? Where have you been, the solution to any problem is to cut taxes.
- Bloodwine, on 03/02/2009, -6/+48GOP has leaders? I'm a fiscal conservative, and I don't consider myself having any leaders, except those elected. Even then, I consider them more of public servants than leaders.
I really don't see Rebublicans having leaders. Some opinionated loudmouths, maybe, but not leaders.
I personally wish we could abolish the parties altogether so we were forced to look at the people and policies on a per person or policy basis, but that'd never work because people would create categories to put the politicians into, which is pretty much what the parties are for anyways. - Kohaxx, on 03/02/2009, -4/+46I brought chips and salsa! Let's have a party!
- rotundo, on 03/02/2009, -4/+45I actually think Stewart would make a fine political figure. He'd have to tone down the mocking, but he actually seems to be an informed and thoughtful guy. Also, though he gets a bit too pointed at times in his monologues, he will have fair and respectful discussions with his guests even when he disagrees with them -- something I've yet to see Rush do.
Even if he was on the other side of the aisle, I'd say the same thing. I want more informed, thoughtful, and respectful people in politics.
That said, you're right, he's never going to get there :) - wgasa, on 03/02/2009, -5/+46This is Beautiful
- ThinkExist, on 03/02/2009, -2/+42The internet has freed us. No longer do the cooperate masters, at least for the moment, have a monopoly on information. Now the majority, if they so choose, can learn the truth. Instead of being a cognitive slave.
- FrozenPie, on 03/02/2009, -6/+45Coming from a conservative, this is really sad. Why? Palin is our front runner along with Romney. The neocons are just rebranding themselves like Blackwater to XE. At least they are giving Ron Paul more of a chance, somewhat...
- inactive, on 03/02/2009, -4/+41Yes, the Democrats are deliberately making Rush a centrepiece of the GOP.
- Feraldr00d, on 03/02/2009, -7/+40This is a disgrace. Rush Limbaugh is a disgrace to this nation. Anyone who thinks Democrats are always wrong, conservatives are always wrong, Republicans are always wrong, or that liberals are always wrong is an idiot. You know why? Because they, like Rush, have subscribed to this "Us vs. Them" mentality that is gripping our nation in a vice and slowly compressing.
- byronm, on 03/02/2009, -2/+34Rush made himself a big target.. its exactly what he wanted. I just don't see what people find interesting in him. He's a hot head and our country needs calm and collected people to think through the issues instead of pretending their answer is the only answer.
- roofview, on 03/02/2009, -4/+36Its kind of nice to see them eat themselves, however those assigned to eat Limbaugh better be prepared for a large meal because there is no end to that fat ass.
- costumemaker, on 03/02/2009, -4/+36I am going to be honest with you.. I wrote the digg front page algorithm code. It's quite complex but all it really does is look at your history of buries, Zeke. If it contains words that you bury frequently, then the algorithm just moves the article to the front page.
Its all a giant conspiracy just to piss you off. You don't know me, but you bumped into me one day and I spilled coffee on myself because of it. So I made it my life long dream to give you a heart attack while you whine like a bitch at internet sites that you pay no money for.
Wait until you see what I did to your gmail. - hawkspur, on 03/02/2009, -4/+36Wut? RTFA.
- sbernhardt, on 03/02/2009, -1/+32You guys just don't get it.
- DavidGX, on 03/02/2009, -3/+33Indeed, our sides were hurting quite badly.
- kashk5, on 03/02/2009, -3/+33Actually, Rush and his followers are the biggest threat to the stability of the GOP.
- alphaterminus, on 03/02/2009, -1/+29I used to buy his ***** hook, line, and sinker. I basically only watched Fox News and listened to talk radio and thought O'Reilly, Hannity, and Rush were great. I was in Texas during hurricane Katrina and watched in amazement as Bush just basically ignored the whole situation for days. I couldn't understand WTF his administration was doing then I realized yes, they were that stupid, and no, they didn't care. Limbaugh blamed the whole thing on Nagin and the Louisiana government but I knew that Bush showed no leadership and the buck stops at the top. I started reading international news on the net and realized I was a ***** for letting myself get brain-washed. In 2008 I voted for Obama and watched with bewilderment as talk radio and Fox basically labeled him as the antichrist. But thank god now I only watch Fox News like I'm watching a train-wreck.
- Bartboy919, on 03/02/2009, -3/+29I didn't know kos was run by one person, oh wait it isnt.
This was written by a reader, not one of the staff. - chriskzoo, on 03/02/2009, -2/+28Better question: Why does DL Hughley have a political show? LOL
OK, I watched the video: where does Steele "repudiate" Rush? All he says is Rush is not the de facto leader of the party - which he is not. - malex, on 03/02/2009, -2/+27Because... _that_ never happened before Obama took office.
- inactive, on 03/02/2009, -8/+32It's a complicated algorithm, *****.
- homercles337, on 03/02/2009, -4/+28I have been to freakerville many times and i think you cherry-picked mild comments. Those people are certifiably insane and those comments really dont reflect the nature of that cesspool of filth.
- sigmaman2, on 03/02/2009, -2/+25LOL yeah
...I'm sure that the President, VP, 60 Senators, and 2/3 of the House are broken down and in agony because of what Rush Limbaugh says.
/s - azureskies88, on 03/02/2009, -16/+39Once the GOP finally collapses, we will see the rebirth of the Republican Party as the new Libertarian Party. I am in eager anticipation.
- inactive, on 03/02/2009, -6/+29The party glorifies anti-intellectuals and has a ruined brand name. The GOP is going to have a hard time recruiting anyone with critical thinking skills.
- mikelieman, on 03/02/2009, -4/+26Given the poor financial performance of Rush's show, expect more histrionics.
Remember who else was a dynamic speaker playing to a dissatisfied and marginalized extremist base?
Just sayin' is all... - bearcat8543, on 03/02/2009, -3/+25this is the 5th article to make the frontpage with rush limbaugh today.
- emkaysmith, on 03/02/2009, -0/+22I would expect the present Republican Party to disappear, to be replaced by a new conservative party of some sort (which I've been thinking of personally as the Tories . . .). They would be fiscally conservative, actually in favor of smaller government, and hands-off when it comes to social issues.
The freepers, the evangelicals, and the single-issue screamers would be relegated to a dozen tiny little marching societies with no influence of any significance.
Mind you, I would still be a highly liberal Democrat. But I have some intelligent conservative friends and it would be nice if they had a home to go to. They tend to wince a lot these days. - muckemuck, on 03/02/2009, -5/+26I'm part of the GOP base.. and I say: *clap*clap*clap*
I'm sick of Limbaugh. - inactive, on 03/02/2009, -1/+22Jindahl's response was remarkably childish and ignorant. I fully expected him to start saying "neener neener neener", give a Bronx cheer, then say "I know you are but what am I?"
- KMFDM781, on 03/02/2009, -9/+30 Haha, I love this so much. Before, republicans would win an election by lying and smearing, cheating and dirty tricks...now with the universal usage of the internet, the republican party has floundered. Now they're like 2 cats tied into a bag. They rip themselves apart from the tizzy or not getting their way. Frenzied efforts to smear the Democrats and Obama met with fact finding and being called on their lies, which works them up into a lather more and more! Comedy gold.
- solidcube, on 03/02/2009, -2/+23This is great.
The intellectual wing of the GOP have lost control. Now it will spin into abysses of madness. - emkaysmith, on 03/02/2009, -3/+23"New Libertarian Party"? I very much doubt it. The Libertarians are even more ideological than the remnants of the GOP. They totally reject any viewpoint except their own, which means they can never compromise on anything. Which means they're never going to woo any voters from any other group.
One reason the Libertarians are so popular among college students is that people in their late teens also tend to be very ideological and haven't had enough "life experience" to understand how to compromise, either. - bal00, on 03/02/2009, -0/+20When the Republicans are making demagogues like Limbaugh and Coulter headliners at conventions and even hand them awards, I don't really think you can blame the media.
- wilhoitm, on 03/02/2009, -4/+24The Republican Party is its own worst enemy!
- emkaysmith, on 03/02/2009, -4/+24Those of us who have the intelligence not to be dittoheads (though it doesn't take much, I admit) should do everything we can to encourage Rush to run for head of the Republican Party. Then he needs to get Hannity and the other right-wing talking heads on the board of directors. They need to purge the GOP of all remaining moderates and then convince David Duke to accept the party's presidential nomination.
- Bartboy919, on 03/02/2009, -4/+23Hey, if Al Franken can do it, why not?
- inactive, on 03/02/2009, -3/+21You live in your own little reality don't you akchrs.
