- john2kdiggs, on 08/23/2008, -42/+529If Ron Paul becomes the nominee of the Republican Party I will be convinced that miracles can happen. Our world and our nation definitely could use a few miracles like that.
- Parisjune, on 08/23/2008, -35/+436McCain was always in trouble -- everyone knows that. Turn off your damn TVs once in a while.
- libertygal76, on 08/23/2008, -149/+478September surprise I'm telling you folks!!
Ron Paul can still win this thing!!! - Trustar247, on 08/23/2008, -27/+277Any other McCain delegates out there? You don't have to vote McCain at the convention. Make yourself feel good and listen to your true conscions... Do the right thing for the rest of America, either skip the first vote or even better, vote Ron Paul instead! You will thank yourself.
- tracywood, on 08/23/2008, -25/+265Well, I did spend some time looking into this. It is actually technically possible for Paul to win the nomination. Not likely, but possible all the same. There's a lot of shenanigans at Conventions. It should be noted that Lincoln won the nomination and he went into the Convention with ZERO delegates. Paul has anywhere from 32 to 86 depending on how you count them, and no doubt many hundreds of the others are Ron Paul supporters that are won by other candidates. I would not bet my first-born on Paul winning, but no doubt he is not to be underestimated. It's also interesting to note that if he loses this nomination, it will be the first and only time he has lost any election ever. The man does know his way around winning, and I have no doubt that if he won the nomination, and then had equal time with Obama, Paul would indeed win the Presidency, partly because Barr (Libertarian Party) and Baldwin (Constitution Party) would both instruct their parties to vote for Paul instead, as would likely the Greens too. Hope and pray.
- voicce, on 08/23/2008, -41/+258Excellent -- we may save the country yet!
- tracywood, on 08/23/2008, -12/+196How Lincoln Won the 1860 Republican Nomination
One of the most interesting American political stories involves the nomination of Abraham Lincoln to be the Republican party's candidate for President of the United States in 1860. This was the Republican party's second presidential convention, and the man everyone expected to receive the nomination was the powerful and well-known William H. Seward of New York.
Abraham Lincoln, although having recently been introduced to eastern audiences through a series of political speeches in New England, and prior to that having gained some fame due to his participation in "the Great Debates" with Stephen A. Douglas, was not considered a serious contender for the appointment. How he and his political team brought him from "dark horse" contender to the victor is the subject of the following article.

- Albumen, on 08/23/2008, -69/+227Honestly?!? I hate to be the one to break this to you Billy, but there are no such things as Santa Clause, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy or President Paul. Sorry.
Let the down digging commence! - inactive, on 08/23/2008, -24/+172Ron Paul's Campaign for Liberty, check it out http://www.campaignforliberty.com/
- OpenRevolt, on 08/23/2008, -63/+199Ron Paul as the GOP nomination would steam roll over Obama/Biden.
However, I think they would have a terrorist attack on the convention before they would allow him to be nominated. - dom7p, on 08/23/2008, -20/+136Be part of the biggest grassroots movement happening in America, now. http://www.campaignforliberty.com/ - inactive, on 08/23/2008, -21/+133Good for them!! I wouldn't vote for the sorry rat either. If I can't vote for Ron Paul I will vote for either Chuck Baldwin or Bob Barr!!
- billsebe, on 08/23/2008, -44/+130Ron's my sunshine after the rain, he's the the cure for all our fear and our pain. I'm losing my mind when Ron's not around, it's all, it's all, it's all for Ron Paul! lmao
- Libertarian4321, on 08/23/2008, -13/+97I can't wait to attend the Campaign for Liberty Rally and the GOP convention wearing my Ron Paul gear!
- reddikilowatt, on 08/23/2008, -4/+86I was just in Las Vegas last week and it was nice to see all the RP posters along I-15.
- Comatose51, on 08/23/2008, -7/+88Ron Paul is the polar opposite of McCain. McCain can pretend to be a maverick but a real maverick has to be intelligent in addition to being independent. RP has those qualities McCain solely lacks.
- peacepower, on 08/23/2008, -14/+92A Ron Paul presidency is about the only thing that can save this country at this point. It would truly be a miracle and would begin to restore the faith of the world in this country. Bob Barr and his running mate keep hitting some discordant, non-libertarian notes. I voted RP in '88 and hope to again this election. Vote and pray and organize.
- identifiedlogo, on 08/23/2008, -12/+82Just wake up and elect Ron Paul, already.

- Cryptocracy, on 08/23/2008, -14/+81I still have my Ron Paul sign out front. It will be a great "I told you so" to all the Obama and McCain people after the Empire collapses. I wish it could be different.
- Griminald, on 08/23/2008, -4/+68From the article:
"In April, riding high on a second-place showing in the Silver State, the grass-roots Paul supporters were well represented and well organized at the Republican state convention. Winning a key rule change, the Paul delegation began electing a majority slate for its candidate, when party officials dropped the gavel, turned out the lights and adjourned the convention indefinitely.
The state party leadership went on to appoint a slate of McCain delegates to the national convention by private conference call."
Wow, if that doesn't play into the conspiracy theories of the party doing anything to avoid a shift away from Neo-Conservatism (aka "Anyone But RON PAUL!!") I don't know what does.
It's nice to see some people actually give a damn about politics in this country. - billsebe, on 08/23/2008, -6/+61"It's also interesting to note that if he loses this nomination, it will be the first and only time he has lost any election ever."
He lost the presidential election in '88 and he also lost one of his congressional runs. - NikoKun, on 08/23/2008, -8/+62I'm really shocked by how stupid and willfully ignorant so many of you are... You obviously have no idea what Libertarians are... Let alone what Liberals are. Nor the fact that they are different things all together.
All you care about is your ***** name calling and insinuating them to be bad things.
Libertarians are actually far more conservative... In a more traditional and freedom sense of the word. - chuckDontSurf, on 08/23/2008, -26/+79It'd be pretty cool if Ron Paul got more attention, just b/c I'd like to see more choices. But c'mon. You're just delusional if you think Paul has a chance in hell of winning this thing.
- Lawofnations, on 08/23/2008, -40/+92Ten more days and I'll be in St. Paul shoving DVD's for Delegates into the hands of the G.O.P. members if they still have reservations about McCain as the nominee. Let's face it, if Paul doesn't get the nomination then Obomba will win. Only God can help us if that happens.
- King0007, on 08/23/2008, -9/+61Ron Paul can do it......Now that Obama has chosen another CFR member.....Biden, and McCain is horrible......come on McCain delegates....do what is right for our country for once. Sit out on the first binding vote....them come back and vote Ron Paul for the nomination....
Get some balls and understand that YOU (McCain) delegates have a responsibility to nominate Ron Paul! - ironhide, on 08/23/2008, -6/+58If Paul pulls this off, I will never stop laughing. I've got issues with some of his views but he's a far better alternative to McCain.
- swoopdog, on 08/23/2008, -12/+64I am still rocking my Ron Paul 2008 4'X3' with red white and blue lights in my den
The only guy I would EVER vote for! - tajitj, on 08/23/2008, -8/+59New Zogby polling has Bob Barr at 10% in Nevada. I think many Paul supporters are backing Barr. Of course there are the very vocal minority online who always bash Barr, but the Libertarian leaning Republicans are going Barrs way. If McCain picks Lieberman or Ridge, Barr will immediately be in double digits nationwide.

McCain and team alzheimers can kiss my ass.
(and I consider myself a conservative) - inactive, on 08/23/2008, -29/+75The fact is Ron Paul was by far the most qualified candidate for the GOP and they chose McSame. It should also be noted that neither McSame nor OBushma quit their Senate job to run for president which pretty much tells you they are NOT confident they will have the White House in January.
I wonder who McSame will get to stand up with him?Teddy the drunk? Rush the drug addict? - n8o8, on 08/23/2008, -10/+54Even if Ron Paul doesn't win this, our country has been changed forever by his belief in the positive effect of freedom. The next few elections will see the ending relevance of the two party system. Thank you Dr. Paul!
- tracywood, on 08/23/2008, -5/+48"While we would all like to see our own views take hold, more people voted for John McCain."
In no small part thanks to people like YOU!
Just a heads-up, it is the official campaign staff, not Ron Paul that people blame for his lack of success. To come in here and say such a stupid thing is asking for a good tar and feathering.
Oh, and maybe before you started a job with Ron Paul, it might have been good or you to know that America is NOT a democracy, it is a Constitutional Republic. And this only proves WHY we blame the campaign, when someone that worked for it does even know how his own country's political system operates. Well done slick! - lazyfisherman, on 08/23/2008, -6/+49McCain's attack ads are really, really annoying.
"Obama. Taxes. Break Your Family. Oil. Economic Disaster."
And that's just about all the ad says. It doesn't even attempt to explain anything and is just fear-mongering.
- inactive, on 08/23/2008, -30/+72Uhm, no he cant. I know it's not something you guys want to admit, I was an RP supporter, but it's O V E R. Buried for sheer stupidity of ongoing RP for pres supporters.
- Lunarsight, on 08/23/2008, -44/+84Buried for being inane propaganda..
Yes - I'm sure the Ron Paul cult will bury this comment just like they have all the others that disagree with them. - inactive, on 08/23/2008, -10/+49Ron Paul, My Choice My Hope My HERO!

- gavdana, on 08/23/2008, -14/+48@Albumen - dug up for intellectual honesty.
- Xihix, on 08/23/2008, -10/+44Ron Paul had trouble getting the votes from the idiotic GOP... I can't imagine him being able to capture the rest of the nation. True, he is the man the country needs, but he's not the man the media wants. Everything is much more complex than you think... It's all part of the plan that is American politics and the mainsteam media. It's all controlled. Whether you vote for McCain or Obama this November, you're changing nothing. And Americans have been deluded by the media for so long that these are their only choices, that things will never change. The nation, at this point, is not worth fixing. Just sit back, sip on your Starbucks, and watch American Idol.
- OpenRevolt, on 08/23/2008, -7/+39Ron Paul only NEEDS to remain true to his principles.
America is already screwed up enough because people bent a little here and there and the next thing you know everything is a massive tangle of corruption. - oconnor11, on 08/23/2008, -7/+36Actually, Paul has lost some but it doesn't seem to bother him at all. His courage to continue the fight to save America presses him on. His words "you win some, you lose some". What a patient steadfast man he is!
- Minarchian, on 08/23/2008, -4/+33As an Obama supporter your fear of a Ron Paul nomination is very real. I'm not saying Paul will be nominated, because frankly they will do any crooked trick in the book to stop him, but if he were to happen to miraculously get the nomination the Obama camp will be ***** in their panties.
For Obama, it would be "Game Over". - dom7p, on 08/23/2008, -6/+34McCain had more votes because Ron Paul had a media black out on him. It was so obvious. Just like they are doing to McCain against Obama. Ron Paul had and has something very special that I country deserved and deserves. The media picks our candidates and there the injustice begins. So "democracy" my A$$. There is injustice there and so it can be anywhere. I will not vote for McCain or Obama. Both are bad for us and talk about trivial things. When are they going to get to the meat and potatoes and tell us what they truly stand for and what their solutions are? This is a horrible election year.
- scottmc, on 08/23/2008, -3/+31Paul / Ventura ticket?
- oconnor11, on 08/23/2008, -2/+29Amen! I get so tickled when I see articles saying "Wonder if the Paul supporters will vote for McCain. We'll have to wait and see". I laugh! I can almost guarantee the vast majority of Paul supporters will not be voting for McCain because we agree with Dr. Paul. Vote your conscience. Vote for those things you truly believe in. A vote for McCain is a vote for pre-emptive wars, setting up puppet govts, never-ending wars, an empirical America, and the Big Brother state. I'm sorry but I can't even consider voting for these things.
- oconnor11, on 08/23/2008, -3/+30The people were never fully informed of Dr. Paul's issues. There is proof of that with Google trends and the corporate-owned media marginalization (which is run mostly by neocon Rupert Murdoch). The delegate system is set up to prevent things such as what is happening now. Since the delegates are supposed to be more informed on all the choices, they are supposed to represent the American public. You go ask any average joe to see if they know who all the candidates were and what they stood for. They most undoubtedly have no idea. There are no rules that say a bound delegates has to vote for a particular candidate because there are no rules against abstaining from voting in each round until they are freed up. There was a reason it was set up that way. How about searching the 1860 Republican convention when Lincoln was nominated. Seward was the presumed nominee and I believe Lincoln went in with only a handful of delegtes. We all know what happened there.
