- earnric, on 10/12/2007, -20/+120More propaganda from the repuglicans: how consensual sex between adults -- admittedly extra-marital -- gets compared to soliciting an underage kid is beyond reprehensible.
But the rabid red-staters will eat it up.
There isn't much hope for our republic when the masses can't distinguish between lawful and unlawful behavior. - blankfaze, on 10/12/2007, -10/+64Wow... wow. Almost speechless. Inappropriate behaviour toward a subordinate? Hah. Monica Lewinsky ≠ 16 year old boy.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+46Wow, only a republican would compare a blowjob, a great hetero american pasttime, to gay sex with children.
WHAT HAS THIS COUNTRY BECOME - FlaG8r, on 10/12/2007, -7/+46When in doubt, invoke Clinton.
- hawkeye17, on 10/12/2007, -9/+47Hume is one of the top Hacks in all Journalism. Dumb as a box of rocks too.
- Crass22, on 10/12/2007, -11/+43It really creeps me out how these guys are so vhemently trying to defend Foley. Yes Clinton had an affair, yes we all can admit what he did was wrong, but to act like this guy is fine or shouldnt be grilled by the media is just bogus.
- Wolfboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27The U.S. Supreme Court legalized gay sex nationwide in 2003.

Do we need to say more.
I don't understand people who watch Fox News. They need someone to think for them AND interpret events for them. - katanaswordfish, on 10/12/2007, -8/+28I agree with you crass. This is insanity. Not only is what Clinton did with Monica Lewinsky legal, he was impeached and mostly in trouble for telling lies about the situation.
Clinton having an affair is SO insignificant compared to the destructive effects of pedophilia, and the fact that they are defending Foley's behavior in order to protect the reputation of their political party, and take a stab at Clinton and the democrats is a low blow and an outright display of bad taste and poor judgment. - HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23The homosexual sex laws (sodomy laws) are unenforceable. They might as well not be on the books.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21Latest info says some Repubs knew about it since 2001.
- ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21Clinton got blown by a fat chick in the Oval Office. Foley tried to get sex from a High School Sophomore and was told "Don't do it again." by his superiors who never leveled an investigation against him, which would easily have revealed his dirty emails.
You people are really losing it, you know that? If the Republicans get thrown out on their asses, I have no doubt flower petals will rain down from heaven. - xtr3m, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20Damage control
- flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -6/+19ahhaha, I dont think monica was 16, or a dude.
- ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -7/+19Clinton was charged with sexual harassment, not rape.
- jbouklas, on 10/12/2007, -7/+19Total BS. Republican leadership knew about this guy's sexual perversion and pedophilia since 05 and kept it secret. Not only did they turn the other cheek, they tried to cover it up. Once it leaked to the press that he was chasing after a 16 year old boy and trying to have sex with him, then the Republicans denounced him.
Keep trying to rewrite history and to spin the world around me. You'll still lose, jackass. - mgreenwald, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Perhaps because Clinton's affair was with a grown adult woman. And Foley's was with a young boy...
- sanman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12What ever happened to the Chandra Levy case, anyway?
I remember that was the biggest story in the news until 9/11 happened, and then it was of course totally eclipsed. I bet that's one Congressman who was happy about 9/11. - Yage2006, on 10/12/2007, -10/+20Boycott FOX and it will go away
- jerbaker, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15He was? Can you show me the indictment?
- fishstickz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12But... But Clinton!
- Bigg3h, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Oh and don't forget Dan Crane (R-Ill) Seems it was a good year for underage sex.
- apzdsx, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13@analyze
Homosexuality is not synonymous with pedophilia. Moron. - enki25, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Who was plying interns with cocain? Are you referring to a story about Bush in his younger years?
- pintomp3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10cheating is not the same as pedophilia, no matter how much you want to justify foley's behavior.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Okay Clinton had an affair with an intern, but I am sure he isn't the only public figure that has done so. The only difference between Clinton's affair and others, is Clinton's was on the news every night and there was a republican lead witch hunt to impeach him for it, that ensured it would be on the news everynight. Al Gore and others tried to distance themselves in 2000 from him, so I think the statement it didn't cost him any standing might be inaccurate. There are similarity in that both were instances of inapporiate (in Foley's case possibly criminal) behavior by elected officials.
It just looks like an attempt to shift the focus on to Clinton and trash him, something Fox seem to be doing more frequently in the run up to elections. I don't why people watch Fox News, they insult your intelligence on a near constant basis, by telling you they're fair and balanced when they clearly are not. CNN and MSNBC for all their biases don't even go that far. - deesnutz, on 10/12/2007, -8/+15It goes to show you at what length these Republican sheep are willing to go to do damage control for their party.
They are trying to lessen the fall out of this by saying, well yeah, it was bad but Bill Clinton did it too.
Sorry Brit, but in my book ...
having an extra-marital affair ≠ a grown man trying to bang 16 year old boy.
Or maybe this idiot doesn't see the difference. And wouldn't mind doing the later.
Republican motto ...
When in doubt, blame Clinton.
Once again ...
If you want a party that lies, are full of hypocrites and pedophiles,
then vote Republican.
If you want a party that "Cut & Runs" from liars, hypocrites and pedophiles,
then vote Democrat. - apzdsx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9@analyze
{Chapter 117, 18 U.S.C. 2422(b)} forbids the use of the United States Postal Service or other interstate or foreign means of communication, such as telephone calls or use of the internet, to persuade or entice a minor (defined as under 18 throughout chapter) to be involved in a criminal sexual act. The act has to be illegal under state or federal law to be charged with a crime under 2422(b), and can even be applied to situations where both parties are within the same state, but uses an instant messenger program whose servers are in another state. - jerbaker, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13The Dems are taking away all of their sexual outlets. I mean they can't just become pastors and priests to get at the kids anymore, and now they can't even hook up with their own underage interns. Where's the family values?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Why is Fox News defending pedophilia? Wow, Fox just sinks further and further into disgrace.
- reddevil3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8The sad part is that this will make little to no difference on republicans. After all this they will still vote republican.
- Habemus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5>As a 23 year old med student doing a rural rotation I had a 60 something male doctor start making passes at me.
Very creepy. But it wasn't illegal was it? - unloud, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9I find that so interesting that every person who has stated the difference between the two in this topic has emphasised Foley was doing these things with a boy. Would it have been more acceptable if it was an teenage girl or somehting?
- Tamriel, on 10/12/2007, -13/+18No, homosexual sex is illegal in many US states. You are right that some states don't specify as to whether the age of consent is meant for same or different sex couples, but that is it.
- ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8That should be the new motto for the Republican party. "What about Clinton!"
The thing that pisses the Republican party off most about Clinton is that he was the only Democratic President in the last 30 years and most people still love him more than any other president in those 30 years. - gwolf, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I cannot believe any decent person would even attempt to defend this Ped out of loyalty to a political cause. That sounds like cult behavior to me. Koolaid anyone?
- HumanWaste, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Foley did something that was illegal. Clinton did something that was immoral, but not illegal.
The only similarity between these situations is that a big deal was made about infidelity and perversion. The context in which these situations occurred are very different. - Stonedonkey, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7The extent of the secrecy shows just how flexible the GOP's ethics really are. Years of total silence for a man soliciting his subordinates for sex.
I know, no one's innocent. The Dems have their share of closet skeletons and quiet ordeals. Just ask Senator Kennedy. - Euangelion, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Clinton commuted a democratic pedo's sentence.
- deanlowe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5How many in the GOP have had affairs. Do they really want to be also lumped in with this Foley guy??
- Scruffydan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8"The homosexual sex laws (sodomy laws) are unenforceable. They might as well not be on the books."
The government has no place in the bedrooms of the nation. - bobbknight, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Always read the dugg down comments, they prove to enlighten more that the mindless dugg up ones.
- Habemus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Has it even been established that the intern was under age when the explicit chat happened? I read that he was under age when the innocuous but creepy (and nevertheless legal) stuff was sent like "send me your pic." Only when he turned 18 was the more explicit chat used.
The comparison with Clinton may be valid in that the problem may be abuse of power rather than anything actually illegal. I think I'll wait for more facts before jumping to conclusions. - Habemus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Carter left office 26 years ago. Have you forgotten about him already?
- Euangelion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I am still waiting for someone to explain Accused Rapist Clinton's commuting of DEMOCRAT PEDOPHILE Mel Reynolds' sentence. You know, the DEMOCRATIC PEDOPHILE who said he hit the lotto when he thought he was going to have a 15 year old Catholic school girl.
- Kolar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Clinton had a good record to stand on and the inappropriateness was with a consenting adult. Mark Foley on the other hand was involved with minors, the point man on protecting child from predators and has nothing to stand on but being another conservative closet homosexual prude turned pedophile. For someone who campaigned, was elected and should belief in such things like protecting child and people in general from people like him, he truely is a disgrace to his party and to the country.
Now Clinton's actions were wrong, he admitted to it eventually, he apoligized for lying. Were his actions criminal? No. Did they harm anyone? No. Were any principles he campaigned on violated? No. Did he violate state or federal law? No. Are the republicans going ***** crazy over it? ...No, and that's the sad thing here. Partisanship and the image of one pedophile is more important to these people then removing him from office, from investigating it fully, from knowing if this piece of ***** did anything to some kids.
How again is this like Clinton? - Charlotte_Web, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11Not all of Clinton's extra-marital antics were consensual. There were allegations of sexual harassment and sexual assault by women like Paula Jones and Kathleeen Willey.
The comparison is fair. - Habemus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Adultery was illegal in DC when Clinton had his fling with Monica. The law was repealed shortly after the impeachment, but at the time it was DC ST § 22-201.
- Habemus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3>Secondly, Foley is guilty of mass hypocrisy given his chairmanship of a committee focused on kidnapped and exploited children.
That much is true without a doubt. - ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4If Clinton did it, then ***** him. But Juanita Broderick retracted her statement and then redacted her retraction and no one knows why.
