Why do people named Richard voluntarily have people call them Dick? - PhoenixAvatar2, on 10/12/2007, -12/+66Actually, they used to have more restraints, but by scaring the country and having a party majority in congress, Bush was able to remove some of those restraints. Fortunately, the current congress is beginning to reverse that.
- brianbowden, on 10/12/2007, -7/+48This article really bothered me. I'm not bothered at all when people may joke about things involving race. Its good for everyone to laugh at themselves. But when people really harbor and perpetuate racist thoughts, that is truly scary (i.e. discrimination in social and economic facets, etc). And this is coming from American media. It really shows you how archaic our society really is. And how we focus on idiots like Imus and Chris Rock's racial stereotyping, when idiots like Hannity and Morris are free to spout such racist and sexist rhetoric.
- hbweb500, on 10/12/2007, -2/+41Why are girls named "Chastity" rarely chaste?
- Pix869, on 10/12/2007, -2/+37He is the first man to run. The rest were only at a walking pace.
- jeffiek, on 10/12/2007, -14/+48I don't care what color they are. American Presidents are scary. Period.
They have far too much power and not nearly enough constraints. - aikimann, on 10/12/2007, -7/+40I don't think Al Sharpton should count. He's a race mongering, race card playing, opportunist. And the last thing he really wants is for true racial equality. Then he would lose what little power he has in the black community. He's about as serious a candidate as Bozo the Clown.
- bitt3n, on 10/12/2007, -4/+35sorry, if Obama has a chance, it is all because of President Palmer. RIP.

- reeder, on 10/12/2007, -16/+39Dick Morris is the biggest sellout ever to hit the American political scene. At least idiots like Bush and Cheney have conviction in their insane/evil ideas. Morris just blows his load on the highest bidder.

I think he means the first black man with a little more than a snowball's chance in hell of winning. - LarianLeQuella, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24Who gives a ***** what race and gender someone is? What I am more concerned about is their platform. Personally I hate Hillary's "I'm so much better than you" view of people. At least Barak seems less ingrained in the political process of Washington, which is only a good thing as far as I am concerned.
- enicholas, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21@Poco: ...are you serious? Really? Wow.
"Japanese food" means "food created by the Japanese culture, commonly consumed in Japan, and identified with Japanese culture around the world". McDonalds does not count, any more than burritos count as American food just because you can get them in America.
Meatloaf and mashed potatoes is American food. That doesn't mean that every single person in America eats meatloaf and mashed potatoes, it just means that the dish was popularized in America, is readily available in America, and most people associate it with America. It's not racist, it's just a simple fact.
I think when you get so paranoid about being racist that you can't even accept the simple fact that "sushi is Japanese food", you've crossed a line somewhere. I suspect it's the "You're a giant douche" line. - Disclaimer, on 10/12/2007, -7/+23how's the "first black man" gonna run for president, i'm sure he's dead.
- TruthElixirX, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19Heh, they are until they get their party member in there.

Your comments make me sick. - Depthfunction, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Should we also be afraid of Hillary stealing our womenfolk?
- sctechguy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17@SpectralSounds: What does ethnic food have to do with racial stereotyping? Of course I've said, "Hey, I feel like some japanese food tonight." Know why? Because it comes from....get ready for a shocker: Japan! Same thing with Chinese food, and Mexican food. These are foods that are from the regions that they take their name from, not some blatant racial stereotype. They are called those names, because the particular dishes that make up Japanese food, come from many years of Japanese culture. Likewise for any ethnic food. Note, too, that I am talking about real ethnic foods, not crappy one-off dives that try to pass off americanized Japanese food.
- sigmaman2, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16?????
Why would Americans be AFRAID of a Black President in the first place?
If you disagree with him, or don't like his stands on the issues, that's one thing. You don't like his skin color, that's fine too. Racists are allowed to vote in America as well.
But why is there a need to raise the question of being scared of a Black president? Honestly, what do you think would happen if he were elected? Zombie Nazi cowboys would arise from the dead riding T-Rexes with friggin' laser beams attached to their heads? I doubt it. The very question smacks of xenophobia.
If you DISAGREE with Sen. Obama, then by all means, don't vote for him. But if you are AFRAID of him, well, that's another story altogether. - saikhan, on 10/12/2007, -6/+17In truth, the guests on Fox News are only there to repeat what has already been or wants to be said by the network.

XD she has totally the wrong policies... (frankly i think most old people in politics are too old to be prez anyway... their ideals are lost by then and their set on older ideas... XD)
- TruthElixirX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Yes, if someone were green, it would definitely affect me voting for them. They could be an alien, and I am anti-extraterrestrial immigration!
- saranagati, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7you know, ImATroll's comments were obviously racist, but if you remove the racist spin on them all, there are some decent points, at least food for thought...
1) On average, african americans have lower paying jobs than white americans. This I believe comes from them just recently receiving their freedom so they had to live in cheaper areas that were at one time sub-class areas before the equal rights movement. These areas produced lower paying jobs since the cost of residence nearby was lower. This along with the fact that they haven't had property handed down through inheritance for the past 200 years has made it slow for african americans to be on par with making the same income a caucasian american would make.
2) Really just a rumor, it's not only the african americans who embrace this culture, its every american race. Kids of every race of every generation have wanted to imitate a fad, act stupid and talk different than their elders... its called being a kid. However I think this is so linked to african american culture mainly because of item 1 listed above. When kids reach adulthood, they have to conform to their adult environment in some ways however, since many african americans live in more impoverished areas where the adult environment isn't at least semi corporate (i know there was a better word i could have used there), they tend to keep these habits into adulthood. So since the adults are doing it there, they must be to blame right? (yes that last sentence was sarcasm)
3) African americans again, tend to live in impoverished areas more often than caucasians so they don't have as many traditional job opportunities. Of course, being a drug dealer, thief, hired muscle are jobs, just not traditional ones and they tend to be illegal and more prone to violence. But hey, if my local traditional job opportunities were those, I would be very tempted to take a non-traditional route. As for being less intelligent, that's not the case but african americans generally have been less educated. More children? well, that's just the plight of man, the less opportunities an individual has, the more opportunity he has for making babies. American public education system isn't dumbed down for african americans, its dumbed down to create more efficient workers.
So anyways, I didn't actually want to analyze everything ImATroll said since it's somewhat off topic, but my own statement is on topic and regards all the above. People want to vote for not only someone they feel familiar with, but someone they feel is educated, understands how our economic system works and will be able to handle the job in a crisis. Well many african americans weren't able to receive the education that caucasian americans did and haven't had the wealth to work with many different facets of our economic system. Also the majority americans are caucasian and feel more comfortable with another caucasian because they seem more familiar.
So the question with my above logic is, if african americans are unfamiliar, uneducated, poor people more often than caucasians; would I vote for him? Well if the only thing I knew about him was that he was african american (which obama is criticized as being black, but not african american), no I wouldn't. Of course that's without knowing anything about him. If I knew what he was about, saw some credentials saying that he had the experience to be able to deal with the job, that would be a different story. But therein lies the problem... politicians lie... about everything. So knowing that politicians lie about everything, all that I would really know about him is that he's african american so I probably wouldn't vote for him because of all of the above.
Now of course, obama is apparently not african american, just black (i forget which country his one parent actually came from [actually come to think of it, maybe its that they're saying he's not black, just african american?]) so would I personally vote for him? No, I think our election system is totally ***** and wouldn't vote for anybody.
/waste of time - wpong, on 10/12/2007, -8/+13unless something catastrophic happens, obama's got my vote already.
- crocodilexp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It is odd how many people categorize Obama as a black man. He is white just as much as black (through his mother), but all we hear is "African-American", and very, very rarely "half-black".
I never heard anyone refer to Norah Jones as Indian (and her father was...), only in very detailed biographies one would find a mention that she's half-indian. - TexMachina, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8I heard a piece on NPR that put it best. He's popular with affluent whites because he comes guilt free with no immediate ancestry that was ever enslaved in the Americas.
- UrielSynthesis, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9"maybe it's because his views aren't too far off at what the entire network hints at?"
Maybe its because all the major netowrks have a political bias, but Diggers only care about Fox's because they are mostly liberals? There is nothing at all wrong with complaining about Fox's right slant, but if you only single out Fox News then you show that you dont care about truth, only about what happens to appeal to your mindset. - UrbanVoyeur, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8The truly frightening thing is that there are many people out there who see nothing wrong with what Morris or anyone else on Fox says.
- 3tcp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I don't see the democratic congress taking any power away from Bush, they're just bitching about him enough so everyone keeps hating him until they get a democrat in there.
Things will not be any better with a democratic congress and Clinton/Edwards/Obama in the White House than they were with a republican congress and Bush in the white house. - kuzotz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5@IAmTroll
Rap isn't black culture its black youth pop culture, and its the mainstream ***** today thats aimed towards white teens more so than black teens. I'm sorry to tell you that, but rap int he 1990s wasn't like it is today. Not that many white people could listen to or relate to rap in the 1990s, but when huge record labels took over the genre. It became about cars, and money.. Hell the ***** white kids in my class can say the lyrics better than a lot of the black students.. Trust me I'm black and we mainly only focus in on the beat, and completely ignore the lyrics.
But you know its ***** pop culture its not apart of culture because apparently you don't know black culture if you're spout that ***** out about how black culture is destroying America. My god why does everyone zero in on our race. ***** I've seen Asians benefit form Affirmative action then they turn and blame it on us. I'm tired of this *****. While black culture today is more focussed on trying to conform into white America. White americans are hating on us.. ***** this ***** I may sound like a separatist, but I don't think our society is ready for integration, and no integration is not assimilation...
The one mistake that the black community did during the civil rights era.. Was to tear down their own systems of support, and try to adapt into a system that works against them...
Oh yea last time I ***** checked Black people only made up 13% of the ***** US population.............
My god my race is always the ***** scape goat. - Brewin1100, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@ SpectralSounds and Poco
Using the term "Japanese food" is not racial stereotyping. The adjective "Japanese" doesn't in this case doesn't refer to Japanese people; it refers a style of food who's origins are in Japan. Sure the examples you've laid out are examples of generalizing or stereotyping Japanese people (though I doubt anyone really believes Japanese people only eat Japanese food so they're a bit irrelevant). But your conclusion that "Japanese food" is racial stereotyping is ridiculous because you completely misunderstand the usage of the word. By your logic, I could say the term "Irish whiskey" is racial stereotyping because not all Irish people drink whiskey. WTF? - cynthia2602, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5What century are we living in again??? What difference does it make if he's black white or Green???
The choice of president in the past two elections clearly shows what the majority wants and if that's the case your all doomed!!! - UrielSynthesis, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9Why is it that when Fox airs a commentator's personal opinion, it is labeled as some statement by the network itself? Can't Fox News make enough of an ass of itself without diggers having to spin the stories?
- ronito, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7maybe it's because his views aren't too far off at what the entire network hints at?
- fatfinger, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11Wow, Fox can't even tell that Obama is half white and half black.
- beaunewcomb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Why would anyone be afraid of a man just because of the color of his skin?
I get the feeling his quote was taken out of context because of the "..."'s so I'm not digging this, but what I will say is-
The poll didn't ask "Are you less afraid of Barrack Obama running because of Hilary Clinton." They took the results of the poll "Who are you afraid of" and twisted it. This is exactly why people should turn of the ***** TV right now. They assume you are all idiots!!! If anyone told me the reason why I'm not afraid of Barrack Obama is because of Clinton, I'd laugh in their face. Yet people insist on insulting themselves by watching this crap. - panicofficer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Um... Why even "label" people. I'm sick of it all. Why don't we all try describing people without race being the first factor? My acestors came to America AFTER the time of slaves. So... why do I still have to somehow pay for the "white man's" sin? Why does this crap have to be generational? Yes, there's a lot of pain that occured because of slavery, but that time is over. Let's PLEASE move on. I have friends of all kinds of races. I think the biggest problem today is self-segregation... and it's a problem in all races. We (all people) like to hang out with people that we think are most like us.
Let's stop talking about Obama as being a "black" man and just talk about what kinds of things he stands for. I don't care if a candidate is flourescent purple as long as I agree with what they have to say. - airiox, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8Umm, they never really gave Hannity's actual response. They just cut him off when he was about to say something... MediaMatters is very very liberal and I wouldn't be suprised if the edited that clip to make things appear worse for fox news. Just look at there stories. They are all bashing conservatives.
- TexMachina, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well, yes I as well think he's a good candidate from his positions. He is in fact a level headed and fair minded man who from his interviews appears to have a healthy dislike of Beltway politics in general. But their (exact NPR show I can't recall) opinion rings true. A lot of people shy away from black politicians that have that 400 years of oppression chip on their shoulder. It was a dead on observation that the hypersensitive mindset of most whites like to pretend doesn't exist.
BTW, we are talking about Obama right? - drafhk, on 10/12/2007, -10/+13This is what pisses me off about you people who have a bigger bias than Fox. What Dick Morris said had absolutely NOTHING to do with people being afraid of having a black president. What he said was that Republicans are not afraid of him as a democratic contender even though he has such a huge chance because he's black. He's a threat to the Republicans, but no one really cares because they're so preoccupied about Hillary.
Oh, and Interg12 (submitter), you're officially on my block list you biased lying bastard. - nayr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4A sick and twisted mind? I mean, that's what I think of....
Oh, and japanese food is not a racial label, it's an ethnic label. - schuder, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Article is innacurate. Morris is not Fox News, he is a guest (albeit frequent). That would be akin to saying Fox News: Calls the NYC 9/11 victims "little Eichman's" when they had Ward Churchill on.

Had Enough? Am I the only guy in this country who's fed up with what's happening? Where the hell is our outrage? We should be screaming bloody murder. We've got a gang of clueless bozos steering our ship of state right over a cliff, we've got corporate gangsters stealing us blind, and we can't even clean up after a hurricane much less build a hybrid car. But instead of getting mad, everyone sits around and nods their heads when the politicians say, "Stay the course." Stay the course? You've got to be kidding. This is America, not the damned Titanic.
