- sleepychick, on 10/12/2007, -32/+144Let me get this straight. If you're opposed to an endless war with no congressional oversight, you're a terrorist? 61% of the US population is opposed to this surge. Are they all terrorists too?????
- whiskeymb, on 10/12/2007, -24/+98I've heard the argument that foxnews is only unfair and unbalanced in the editorial programs (which somehow is safe from the fair and balanced critique, not that I agree) but this is a perfect example of how their anchors are neither fair nor balanced either!
- BaxterK, on 10/12/2007, -12/+42Sometimes I think the Fox News anchors are from another planet. She says Kennedy is "proposing that any kind of a troop surge should mean there should be congressional approval of that." That's hostile??? That seems pretty logical. Oversight of people with a lot of power is exactly what needs to happen.
- neuropsychguy, on 10/12/2007, -17/+41"Sen. Ted Kennedy is by far one of the greatest Senators of our time."
I think otheruser forgot to add a sarcasm tag after that statement. - TubaTechno, on 10/12/2007, -7/+25@DoctaStooge
Actually this "military entanglement" was specifically authorized by Congress.
"Many times, the United States has engaged in extended military engagements that, while not formally declared wars, were explicitly authorized by Congress, short of a formal declaration of war."
So its ok for an organization claim to be "nonpartisan" yet create and support a radical left wing blog?
Also, there were 250,000 US troops at the invasion of Iraq. US troop levels are down to 145,000. Did we decrease too soon? Wouldn't an increase of troops put us back at the level we wanted in the first place? - smoothmedia, on 10/12/2007, -21/+38I predict that Farve4Farve gets dugg down to beyond -200
- combovercool, on 10/12/2007, -25/+41Ted Kennedy is a murder and an alcoholic.
- otheruser, on 10/12/2007, -61/+77Sen. Ted Kennedy is by far one of the greatest Senators of our time.
Check out his speech on troop escalation, which was released today:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCAulj5Pmzw&eurl=
"The best, immediate way to support our troops is by refusing to inject more and more of them into the cauldron of a civil war, that can be resolved only by the people and government of Iraq. The casualties are high, the war is long, the time is late, but as Tenneson said, "come my friends, it is not too late to seek a new world.""
This guy is brilliant - if only the rest of the Senate could be like him. - littlebylittle, on 10/12/2007, -28/+44This must be one of the most ignorant things I've ever heard ... Oh, wait, it's Fox News.
- iching, on 10/12/2007, -11/+27
It is just Fox trying to reemphasize one of the points of Fascism
3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause -
The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc. - hawkeye17, on 10/12/2007, -13/+27This woman is just another vacuous Fox Host who knows nothing accept how to spew venom at anyone who has a view different than their Republican masters. Anyone that compares American politicians to terrorists is a fool doing exactly what the terrorists want to see in this country. The real terrorists love ignorant reactionaries like this woman doing everything they can to divide American's. Too bad she's not smart enough to understand that reality.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+22"Sen. Ted Kennedy is by far one of the greatest Senators of our time."
Ted Kennedy is a drunken old fool. The only reason he remains the only brother that hasn't been assassinated is because he's the only brother not worth the price of a bullet. - schlagle, on 10/12/2007, -9/+23Ya, real Fair and Balanced. A "news anchor" calling a respected US Senator a "hostile enemy" is not fair or balanced. It's just plain disgusting. We have this comment and Sean Hannity's new show "Enemy of the State". This is getting a little too similar to Stalin's "enemy of the people" if you ask me...(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enemy_of_the_people)

I do kinda like this move in stopping the War, but people need to be well infored about the people they are so eager to give all their praise to. - tomdurkin, on 10/12/2007, -15/+27It takes the screaming lunatics of the Faux "News" network to make the White House seem almost in touch w/ reality. Although I rarely compliment Bartlett's grasp on reality (or integrity) at least he is of this earth.
- RocketSeason, on 10/12/2007, -7/+19I wouldn't call him a terrorist...but I also wouldn't let him give me a ride home from a party either.
- ThinkFr33ly, on 10/12/2007, -16/+28It's not a good point. It's a straw man argument and a non-sequitur.

Yeah, greatest killer of our time too. Ask Mary Jo Kopechne how great he is... Drowns a woman and gets away with it. - merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12"I don't think churches should be tax exempt"
Churches are non-profit public works organizations -- they run soup kitchens, feed and house the homeless, etc.
If the NRA is tax-exempt, I don't see why a church shouldn't be.

It sure does! Well... except for the fact that Gretchen is not a news anchor. - eigenweasel, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11ThinkFr33ly: are you suggesting that what I wrote is untrue, or just that you dislike the fact that it is true?
Here are references for each of the claims I make:
Dedicated facilities in every public building: http://www.haringey.gov.uk/islam_festivals.pdf
Funding for their schools ... : http://www.slough.gov.uk/news/articles/archive/9988.asp
Preferential employment by the state : http://www.metpolicecareers.co.uk/default.asp?action=article&ID=19
So if what I said is demonstrably true - why is it so unpopular? Could it be that people prefer anodyne illusions to unpleasant truths?
Believing in the peace-and-fluffy-bunnies version of Islam might make you feel like a nice person, but it is suicidal as a policy decision. - bionicvskungfu, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11If the troop surge is so necessary surely the White House should be able to sell the idea to congress and it should have no problem passing even with one more hoop to jump through. The reason the fox propaganda machine is in full swing is because it is not the right course of action, and Congress would never approve this. Checks and balances exists to prevent abuse of power by an overzealous branch of government. Ollie North had a better idea, instead of more American troops in Iraq lets get more Iraqi troops in Iraq.
(and stop calling me Sherly...) - iceperson, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12"A "news anchor" calling a respected US Senator ..."
1) She's not a news anchor.
2) Kennedy is anything but respected. - TubaTechno, on 10/12/2007, -8/+15But if we ask them nicely, they'll stop. right?
- numlocked, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Are you kidding me?!? Ted Kennedy KILLED SOMEONE. I'm not taking a stance one way or the other on the terrorist comments, but the man killed someone.
He drove into the water, got out, swam to shore WENT TO BED, woke up the next morning, talked to a man in the lobby of his hotel about a yacht race, called his LAWYER and only THEN called the police to tell them that a woman was drowned in the water. If that isn't a condemnation of him as a human being, I don't know what is. - davebg8r, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12You guys dug eigenweasel down yet I dont see anyone actually refuting what he said. Saying its a strawman and non sequitur with 0 reasons to back that up is meaningless. It is exactly what happens. Everytime the extreme end of Muslims start freaking out, their demands are given in to. The danish cartoons, the bombing of Spanish trains, the popes comments, etc. I wouldnt stop acting out either if I always got my way when I did. Any of you have kids? Children will often do that same things.
- warnerrr, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11@otheruser
really? Ted Kennedy is one of the greatest senators of all time? Well isn't it just too bad that he is a murderous scumbag drunk driver. Or did everyone forget about that? Also, how is cutting funding for the TROOPS in the war a good thing? Yes, it limits what military maneuvers they can proceed with, but also, guess what? It limits the lifespan of a soldier who gets shipped over there. "Oh hey, we're shipping you to Iraq, but thanks to the brave efforts of one Ted Kennedy, you won't be getting body armor. But, the good news is, it might or might not end the war! So you have a very small chance of not even needing the body armor! God Bless you Ted Kennedy! You are going to end the war by cutting funding to troops! Hooray! The war is over when all of our troops are dead! Then they can come and declare Sharia law on America! Thank you baby Jesus for dying on the cross to save Ted Kennedy in Chappaquiddick that night he killed Mary Jo Kopechne!" or at least I can imagine the Army recruiter sounding _something_ like that. So in any case, before you tout a mans ideals as being the saintliest of intentions, and the best of ideas, think. - iceperson, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14"What about the 1st Amendment to the Constitution and "Freedom of Speech"?"
What does freedom of speech have to do with Kennedy killing Mary Jo Kopechne? - ScornForSega, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8They tried that in the early 70's, only then they called it "Vietnamization."
- markjanet, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13I wouldn't say Kennedy is a terrorist because of his views. I'd say he is dangerously naive. He and alot of other cut and run artists are the Neville Chamberlains of our time. Stopping this war now, when the terrorists are relatively weak, will only postpone the inevitable. Perhaps a decade or two, but they will come back with real power and WWII will seem small in comparison.
- Buelldozer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Is there anyone west of his home state that respects Ted Kennedy? I haven't met them if there is.

From Think Progress' About Page:
"Think Progress is a project of the American Progress Action Fund.
The Center for American Progress Action Fund is a nonpartisan organization. With the blog, CAPAF seeks to provide a forum that advances progressive ideas and policies."
Usually, haven't "progressive ideas and policies" been associated with the Left? Think Progress isn't claiming to be fair and balanced, so they can't be blamed for favoring the Left. Also, you can lean one way or the other and still be "nonpartisan". Nonpartisan means not having an official political affiliation. For example, I am not associated with the Democratic Party, Republican Party, or any Independent Party, but I tend to lean to the Left. I'm technically nonpartisan while still leaning towards the Democrats and other Liberal parties (but not declaring myself as part of any party).
As for the thing about Congress declaring war, you are right that they supported Bush's plans in Iraq. I was just stating that we are not officially in a "War". - schnikies79, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8@jrstinkfish
so being drunk isn't negligence? he didn't decide to get drunk and drive, it just accidentally happened? drunk driving resulting in death is a damn serious crime, don't act like it's not.

Which one is right? Popularity or military strategy?"
Kennedy is determined to make Iraq another Vietnam, anyway he can. - banditski, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9@ThinkFr33ly
I'm not at all disagreeing with you, I just want to understand your post.
I guess I'm in the Richard Dawkins / Sam Harris camp in that I think people should not be catered for based on religion - in any way. I don't think churches should be tax exempt, I don't think religious schools should be funded, etc. Based on that, I don't think anyone should be given incentives for any religious affiliation including those Muslim groups in Europe that the parent post was referring to. - Triffid, on 10/12/2007, -9/+14I don't get it... is this bad only because its Fox News? I hear politicians being bashed on all news channels. :?

Good example:
http://pbrla.blogspot.com/2006/12/oedipus-bush.html
"When the son raised his fist (symbolically) and cried out, “Mission accomplished!” it wasn’t just about the statue of Saddam being dismantled, ripped to ruins in the center of Baghdad. It was about (again symbolically) conquering his father."
It's anti-bush rhetoric. - MattL920, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10Coincidentally, that's exactly what the three branches of our government were intended for. Checks and balances. Yet this anchor and so many others of the Fox News ilk seem to believe that the president is the sole authority in the country and that questioning and challenging him is treason.
I think she forgets that the government we have was established to prevent authority over our country from residing entirely in the hands of one man. - baxtermaddux, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5t his speech the other day was the best ive heard in a while about this war. he is a patriot for fighting this circus administration since the start of this War of Choice. i would not have expected anything less than Fox to call him out as Public Enemy #1.
- danobrien23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@DoctaStooge
"The one thing that people seem to forget about all of this is that Congress is the only group in the US that can declare war. I never heard them declare war on Iraq or Saddam. "
The last Declaration of War from Congress was World War 2; so vietnam, korea war, the gulf war.....all defined as "conflicts" not needing a declaration from Congress, another way our checks&balances is skewed towards Executive Supremacy - rogerbannister, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Western Europeans won't last another generation. Their birthrates are WAY below sustaining...Why?? Who wants to help a spineless society stay alive? Who needs kids to take care of you when the nanny state will do it??
The problem is that with no kids paying into the nanny state, it will fail. This will happen all over western europe in the next 20 years... - TubaTechno, on 10/12/2007, -8/+12Ah.. so you're buying into their political rhetoric.
