- RSandman, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4You would not BELIEVE how much I wish Vox were wrong on this one, but his sentiments mirror exactly what we've been talking about locally here.
Fred is just NOT Ronald, nor is he openly an evangelical nor even credibly an "active" Christian, though he may well be twice virtuous in these areas in his private life - we just don't have the public evidence.
What we DO have, is evidence that a small handful of "second-tier" candidates are both conservative as well as credible in their public positions in a way that reflects the Republican party Platform - gentlemen such as Hunter, Paul, and Huckabee among them.
It also looks like Fred needs to have a serious "come to Jesus" experience to get on-board the boat with conservative, limited-government, generally Christian voters who typically default to supporting Republicans for lack of a national alternative; the problem of course is that we need to be looking for a Captain to lead the boat, not a passenger winning his ticket to the bilge in a last-minute poker game.
The LAST thing this country needs is to consider ourselves "unsinkable" at a time we're heading into dangerous waters. - sonofdy1, on 10/11/2007, -4/+5And the attacks from the left begin.
- letgeorge, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4Isn't is amazing that Ronald Reagan came out of Hollyweird? Well, not really, but this may be why some think Fred Thompson would be a good conservative president despite his association with Hollywood and that weird left wing UN-American crowd.
I never thought George II would make a good president. To me it was like picking over the litter when there were actually no good ones to pick from. I always said I was choosing the lesser of two evils, and I knew when I did that I was still choosing evil. George Bush has certainly proved that adage to me.
Where have all the heroes gone? - abouthadit, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Excellent article on the ersatz conservative Thompson. IMHO, the only reason TPTB are running him is to try to deceive the genuine, although ill informed, disillusioned base. I am one of those but I am also aware of the RINO characteristics and of Thompson's membership in the CFR.
RonPaul2008 dot com - SpaceMonkeyZero, on 10/11/2007, -4/+4It's no surprise. Soon the troofers will say that Thompson was in the remote control command center on 9/11.
- jdieter, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3The Constitution is almost completely gone. Both parties are FOR a huge expensive cradle to grave nanny state with central planners running every tiny detail of your life from Washington D.C. About 35 million dollars a day drip off of each and every Congressman 365 days a year.
Either vote for Ron Paul, or vote away your Constitution. - lambert1776, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1I see a couple of Three-Monkey Republicans have shown up.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2Here's a little info on dear ole Fred Thompson:
Member of the Council On Foreign Relations - Belongs to an organization that is highly likely to be fighting for the overthrow of the US Government.
On the defense team for Scooter Libby. - Supports a man that has been convicted for ethics violations.
Former lobbiest for Westinghouse and G.E.(the current corporate owner of the NBC Universal-NBC television network) - Don't expect much bad airtime about him from his former bosses, the Main Stream Media.
Voted FOR the McCain/Feigngold, Incumbent Protection Act - Believes that Government should shut people up during election season.
Some of his recommendations were incorporated into the Garn - St Germain Depository Institutions Act of 1982, which may have been a contributing factor to the Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s.
He is a supporter of John McCain in the 2000 Presidential primaries, becoming his national co-chair - You like McCain? Thompson will give you the same.
He advocated the conflict in Iraq - Wars based on lies, disinformation and distortions are ok with Thompson.
Staunchly anti-abortion - You think you own your own body? Thompson thinks the Government owns it.
Voted YES on prohibiting same-sex marriage - You want Government to control religious practices? Thompson wants to control even that.
Voted YES on Amendment to prohibit flag burning - The 1st Amendment means nothing to him.
Voted NO on banning affirmative action hiring with federal funds - He believes that people should get jobs based on the color of their skin.
Voted YES on limiting death penalty appeals. - You might as well kill them before they can appeal, right?
Votes FOR anything to do with the so-called "war on drugs" - so much for believing your body belongs to you. If he's willing to continue this waste of time and money he's willing to waste it on anything.
He still fights to punish Cuba through trade embargoes - Forget trading freely with other Governments. He wants to get involved in the affairs of other Countries. If the Cubans don't want Castro, let them get rid of him.
Voted YES on renewing 'fast track' presidential trade authority - thereby allowing the President to bypass certain checks and balances. Thompson wants to give the President even MORE authority.
Voted YES on banning "soft money" contributions and restricting issue ads. - 1st Amendment? What 1st Amendment?
Voted YES on funding for National Endowment for the Arts. - Please explain how this is Constitutional? Thompson has no qualms spending your dollars on images of Christ in piss.
Voted YES on Approving the presidential line-item veto. - Where is this in the Constitution? This would make the President a near Monarch.
He voted no on allowing importation of drugs from Canada. - Does he have any clue how expensive drugs are here? Or is he speaking for big pharma?
Voted NO on allowing patients to sue HMOs & collect punitive damages - Taking away a right to sue someone because they screwed you up so much you can't work for the rest of your life?
Voted YES on limiting self-employment health deduction. - So much for helping the small companies. If it were GE or Westinghouse they would have gotten anything they wanted.
Voted NO on banning chemical weapons. - Why is that Freddie? Do you expect to use chemicals on people some day?
Voted NO on increasing tax deductions for college tuition - Why wouldn't anyone want to get credit for sending their children to college?
Great Presidential material here, eh folks?
