- _jinx_, on 05/19/2008, -8/+144Great speech but damn.... cut the theme music please, I can barely hear what she's saying.
- jmkiii, on 05/19/2008, -1/+119No music
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVPVA6k5CB0 - frenchi, on 05/19/2008, -0/+90why is the title of this video "should John McCain do porn?"
- kdawg1012, on 05/19/2008, -16/+77What a great speech! If that doesn't make you confident that this generation has what it takes, nothing will. I trust this generation more than any other that I have seen since the sixties.
- jurnei, on 05/19/2008, -16/+73Outstanding! You go girl!
- 11up, on 05/19/2008, -5/+57Why does every video on YouTube have to have some stupid background music? It just takes away from the video, cheapens it. At least it didn't have a Windows Movie Maker intro and lame transitions.
That said, great speech, I really hope that this is the future of America. "Fear is the greatest impediment to the achievement of peace"... that's an amazing quote. Did someone else say that or is that original? - Infidelcastr0, on 05/19/2008, -8/+49Great speech, really hit the nail on the head. I'll bet I'm not the only one who's sick of that song though.
- BishkekBuddy, on 05/19/2008, -11/+52If she is any kind of example of what the "next generation" will be - for our country, for our world, for our humanity - I have no fear! Fantastic.
- chester27, on 05/19/2008, -1/+36In Fareed Zakaria's new book, he writes that the time that we currently live in is the safest and most violence free epoch in quite a while. The only reason that we don't feel this way is because of the fear that is pervaded among us as a result of the media and our government's actions.
- jumbalia, on 05/19/2008, -7/+35Your right. Let's just all be a bunch of cynical pricks and berate anyone who even speaks of trying to make this word a better place. I'm sure all the great thinkers and doers of the past will agree that pessimism, baseless assumptions, and negativity are exactly what helped them achieve great things.
Maybe people would be more willing to take action if people like you weren't bringing them down all the time. Just because you've given up on the future doesn't mean the rest of us have to. I truly do feel sorry for you if your outlook on life is so depressing, but don't attempt to make yourself feel better by trying to bring the rest of us down. - spyd3rweb, on 05/19/2008, -5/+29Fear is the greatest tool of governments to ensure compliance and submission.
- bradleyland, on 05/19/2008, -0/+20I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain. - Razer210, on 05/19/2008, -0/+16Cause she's not making you a sandwich?
- Cybermaul, on 05/19/2008, -0/+15Video sans background music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVPVA6k5CB0
- CannedMango, on 05/19/2008, -2/+17Seriously... WTF was with the music?
What I'm saying isn't sad enough... I need it to sound like it's the climax of an HBO movie. It ruined the speech for me. - mattgilberg, on 05/19/2008, -6/+21***** phenomenal......except for that music.
- SteveCUBE, on 05/19/2008, -1/+15Thank you! I had to shut off the other one it was so annoying and I could hardly hear her talk.
- greenlight2001, on 05/19/2008, -1/+14It's been used on a bunch of films. Requiem for a Dream is the first that comes to mind.
- colonelbuckshot, on 05/19/2008, -2/+15The world is ethnically and culturally diverse and the important thing is to respect different people for what they are, respect their land and sovereignty, their culture and identity, their rights and so on. It's when those things are trampled upon that conflict arises.
- jkleinfeld, on 05/19/2008, -6/+19I award this girl 100 Politics
- InfamousAtheist, on 05/19/2008, -3/+15JangFei, your glass if half-empty. Each of us is capable of doing something to change the status quo, and when enough of us do, things change. This country is sick and tired of being lied to and the culture of fear.
What have YOU done that has an impact, other than criticize others? - zirce, on 04/04/2009, -2/+13It's amazing how all it takes are simple acts of human faith in humanity to redeem the human race. There may be wrong in this world, but for every wrong there is a right opposing it.
Keep it up world. - kaelyiesta, on 05/19/2008, -3/+13"[...]We can allow our humanity to come always before our nationality"
I concur. This was a very nice speech. Dugg for that line alone.
It would have been better had that annoying music been added. - lapaix, on 05/19/2008, -10/+19Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- weeeey, on 05/19/2008, -1/+10Mark Salter's (chief of staff to John McCain) response, taken from
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2006/05/21/top-mccai ... :
"The only person you have succeeded in making look like an idiot is yourself." - kineticworm, on 05/19/2008, -0/+8what's up with that title? "should john mccain do porn?"
- TheMikeStone420, on 05/19/2008, -1/+9What do you mean "should John McCain do porn?" To end the show? We'll do it live! ***** it!
- ccdoggy, on 05/19/2008, -0/+7The ORIGINAL song is called Lux Alterna. there are many many remakes of it. most people hearing the requiem for a dream version.
It is very epic, but needs to be used allot less. - NewGTGuy, on 05/19/2008, -3/+10Fear or Love, which do you choose?
- FeloniusMonkey, on 05/19/2008, -3/+10Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.
(pardon my cheese) - inactive, on 05/19/2008, -0/+6If someone telling you that you are wasting your time is all it takes to stop you, then you never had a chance in hell of changing anything in the first place.
- kakwakas, on 05/19/2008, -0/+6Star Wars: ALWAYS relevant.
- lpferris, on 05/19/2008, -3/+9There's no need for that, even if you don't agree with her.
I have reported you for being offensive, and would recommend everyone else do the same. - jkleinfeld, on 05/19/2008, -0/+6It's too bad ignorance isn't painful.
You can't achieve life without knowing death?
It's funny, the US has been in a constant state of war since World War 2... surely, according to your profound knowledge, we shouldn't be having war without first knowing peace, something which this generation has never fully been witness to. - Abomonog, on 05/19/2008, -1/+6I fear nothing. NOTHI..... OMG IT'S A SPIDER! KILL IT QUICK!
- Equinox1, on 05/19/2008, -5/+10Girl power +1. Get em'.
- slahser, on 05/19/2008, -3/+8Requiem for a Dream just spoils so many videos :[
- inactive, on 05/19/2008, -1/+6Of course its our governments actions (all governments, not just the US) that have made it this way in the first place. They are the reason the world is a mostly stable place.
You are the safest humans have ever been, and even the average working slob is enjoying a higher quality of life than the kings of old. - yuutokun, on 05/19/2008, -0/+5I couldn't finish watching it and buried it solely because that ***** song. Someone upload and digg the songless version so some of us can sit through the whole thing.
and ***** the person who added that song in the neck. Her speech has nothing to do with the ills and dangers of drugs. - BryanG412, on 05/19/2008, -1/+5I have to agree with HolmWrecker...we cherish life because of the certainty of death, and we cherish peace because of the atrocities of war. Peace is what we seek, but because of the human condition there will always be war.
- funkywood, on 05/19/2008, -0/+4"You are the safest humans have ever been, and even the average working slob is enjoying a higher quality of life than the kings of old."
True. So why can no one answer the question of why so many americans living in some hick town in some state like Kansas surrounded by the biggest military in history that no one in the outside world have ever heard of, never mind give a ***** about and want to attack, are still so ***** PARANOID?? Are they all frickin pot smokers or something?
What the hell are they afraid of? Besides hell itself? - executorzz, on 05/19/2008, -4/+8This speech is fluff. And I'm afraid it's not very realistic.
- felixleighton, on 05/19/2008, -0/+4"We have nothing to fear from anyone on this living planet"
I'm still scared of bees. - themonkman, on 05/19/2008, -0/+4For all the things we don't like about the that the culture you mentioned above, there's also a laundry list of valid things about our culture they do not like.
You see, while all of the things you listed are horrific to us (and I agree with you, they are), we have done just as horrifying things to them. With the US being the most powerful nation in the world, we can single handedly starve a foreign country by imposing sanctions.
We can cause the death of hundreds of thousands not by deploying a single troop, ship, plane, or missile, but by the single swipe of a pen. We can also lay claim and responsibility to the atrocities in countries like Afghanistan for financing and empowering the Taliban during their war with Russia. Afghanistan was not like this before we interfered. Granted, the straw that broke Soviet Russia's back was the one they took to Afghanistan. The money and weapons we sent the Taliban to fight also allowed the fundamentalist group to enslave and oppress the people. Their extreme views on religion and what it means to be faithful to God was what caused the genital mutilation, and the oppression of their women.
We traded Afghanistan's freedom for the fall of Soviet Russia. We then literally starved the nation via sanctions and drove farmers into the poor houses. It was those same farmers who joined the Taliban to get back at us for what we did to them.
So, when you preach about the wrongdoings of other countries and the atrocities associated with them, ensure you know the history of events that caused it...and be sure to check to see if the country you are lauding about (the US) caused any of the suffering and pain that you condemn. - inactive, on 05/19/2008, -0/+4That was epic. A Neocon called someone else brainwashed.
- VengeanceNight, on 05/19/2008, -1/+5She's correct...we should not fear. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't be ready.
- peacebyanymeans, on 05/19/2008, -1/+5No one said anything about ignoring them.
- Versh, on 05/19/2008, -1/+5Ah, much better. Her thoughts still retain the gravity intended even without the superfluous suspenseful orchestra accompaniment.
- mattewood, on 05/19/2008, -3/+7Fantastic speech, effective timing.
